5 out of 5 stars Great Cd.......2007-01-23

Here is a great collection of songs from a excellent hard rocking band.
This is a collection of their hits and alot more.
Starts off with Pictures of Matchstick men right up to the more modern version of Status Quo.
Those earlier tunes here were excellent, and they realy had a style and sound of their own.
You can hear the changes musicly they went through with this compillation of songs.

4 out of 5 stars Finally...FINALLY!.......2000-07-18

The radio stations in the US only play "Pictures of Matchstick Men." That song had me curious enough years ago to read the article in my Harmony Illustrated Encyclopedia of Rock about Status Quo. There I saw that "Down Down" was a number 1 tune in England, and I had never, ever heard it! Couldn't convince the dj to play it, either. So, after years of wondering, I took a chance and bought this anthology with everything on it.

For those others who are curious, but have no clue, just like me before cracking this baby open: The album reminds me of Thorogood's greatest hits, and the J. Geils Anthology: Song after song of boogie and blues, all in the exact same style. Sound-wise, the album graduates from "classic rock" sounding to somewhat electronic and progressive. Add a mix of "poshness" and over-production to the later tunes, and you're there. Honestly, the common driving beat became a little incessant after 2/3 of the first CD. (There are a LOT of tunes here, 41 in all, keep in mind.) Non-stop. Love it. Hate it. But you can take a long trip, and play this collection as traveling music, and not get bored anywhere along the line. While at home, you'll be selective and play the top rated tunes. Aside from so much great traveling music, I feel like I've bought a giant slice of England's landscape. I hear all these top rated tunes that have escaped America's radio. I had to do it to "figure it out." Glad I did.

5 out of 5 stars A Must for Staus Quo fans!.......2000-05-13

Two cd's and 41 tracks cover the career of enduring rock legends Status Quo.I't's interesting to hear their sound develop from the bubble-gum 1968 hit "Pictures of Matchstick Men".Presented in chronological order, classics like "Down Down","Caroline","Rocking All Over The World","Paper Plane",and "Whatever You Want" still sound great.Francis Rossi & Rick Parfitt and co. have sold over 120 million records and notched up 55 British hit singles to date,a record in UK chart history. Also included are their most recent hits thru 1996.A MUST for committed Quo fans, and a great choice for the casual fan as well.

5 out of 5 stars This is an absolute peach.......1999-09-14

5 out of 5 stars electricial music and bogie that's awesome!.......1998-07-27

I first heard Status Quo in 1973. Was immediately turned on by their sound. Having many many records and tapes of their music, I was delighted to finally find amazon.com & their music selection. I tried for over 20 years to get some of their music on cd but never could. This cd imcompuses all of those recordings I had & more. The songs I never heard before are just super. This cd has a powerful beat that doesn't quit. The guitar work is exceptional & the drummer never misses a beat.

Album Description

A combination of braggadocio and introspection, realism and imagination, wordplay and lyricism, all balanced out with a dash of humor. This is what best describes Kenn Starr, a self-proclaimed MC's emcee. Hailing from Virginia and currently residing in Maryland, Kenn Starr is looking to put Maryland along with the D.C. metro area on the map as a slept-on goldmine of talent. Since the release of his hit debut single "If" featuring Talib Kweli and Asheru (produced by Oddisee) b/w "Walk The Walk" (produced by Kev Brown) in 2004 on Halftooth Records, and following his recent stand-out performances and classic quotable verses on albums such as Halftooth Record's You Don't Know The Half, Wordsworth's Mirror Music, Kev Brown's I Do What I Do, The Foreign Exchange's Connected, and Cesar Comanche's The Squirrel And The Aces, the Hip-Hop community has been anxiously awaiting the debut solo album from Kenn Starr. This time has finally come, and Starr Status is a triumphant display of Starr's extraordinary mic skills, witty charm and down-to-earth personality. Featuring guest appearances by Talib Kweli, Supastition, Asheru, Darien Brockington, Median, Oddisee, Kev Brown & more, as well as outstanding production from Illmind, Khrysis, Oddisee, Kev Brown & more, Starr Status is sure to be one of the best releases of the year. And with the streets already buzzing about Kenn Starr's official mixtape, The Starr Report, as well as the bangers "Against The Grain," "Waitin' On You" and "Back At It Again," and now with the release of Starr Status, Kenn Starr is ready to officially cement his reputation as one of Hip-Hop's most gifted and charismatic lyricists as well as one of its brightest stars.

5 out of 5 stars "Every second that my records spins, its a testament to my excellence...." .......2007-02-18

This is one album that should not be slept on. If you listen to track 7, U Will, and don't automatically proclaim Kenn Starr as one of the best MC's out today then you don't love true hip hop. This album goes beyond one track though; from top to bottom this album is more than solid. Kenn Starr has a way with words that just sucks you in. Every time I listen to this album I hear something new, witty, and intelligent. Used several different producers, so each song has a unique feel to it. This album has a positive message and a cool vibe. If you love non-commercialized hip hop, or just hip hop period, and are looking to take a chance on an artist you've never heard before take a chance on Kenn Starr, I guarantee you won't be sorry.

4 out of 5 stars A STARR ON THE HORIZON.......2007-01-26

ENJOYED THE PRODUCTION OF THE TRACKS, A BIT MORE THE THE LYRICS, THIS BROTHER KNOWS HOW MAKE A TRACK FLOW, WITH HIS PRODUCERS. NEXT TIME USE LESS SAMPLES AND MORE ACOUSTICS (LIVE BAND) AND ORIGINAL MUSIC WITH THE LYRICS,AND THAT WILL SET U APART FROM THE NEW BREED OF RAPPERS USING OLD PHILLY SOUL AND OBSCURE SOUL LOOPS AND PRODUCERS WHO ARE MAKING A REP SAMPLING IT (9TH WONDER,NICOLAY,ILLMIND,S-1,KANYE WEST,ETC.)GOOD MUSIC, GOOD PRODUCTION,LYRICS NEED TO BE ON POINT WITH IT.OVERALL GOOD CD,BUT WILL IT STAND THE TEST OF TIME..........

5 out of 5 stars This is one to listen to, not just hear..........2007-01-13

This is one of the smartest albums ever produced! Every man puttin it down, tryin to do the damn thang needs to listen to "Know Too Much". Maybe the most though provoking song I have ever heard. Don't sleep on the underground. You will definately miss some of the best s___ out there.

Take it from myself and the other dudes who gave this album a 5 Starr rating, this is def one of the best LP's that has come out in 06'. Kenn Starr's uncanny flow and insane punchlines easily put dude in the top echelon of emcees. From front to back, this album has an array of tracks with some of the best production u can find...from producers like Oddisee, Kev Brown, M-Phazes, and Khrysis. BUY THIS ALBUM...CAUSE ITS A START OF A NEW ERA IN HIP-HOP.

5 out of 5 stars Reach for the Stars.......2006-11-26

The album also has great production by Khrysis, Illmind, Oddisee, Young Cee and several other producers. There are songs in collaboration with Darien Brockington and Talib Kweli. This is one of the best examples of a "complete" 60's collection I've ever seen. They went all out to goet everything that Status Quo did, even their Spectres and Traffic Jam stuff. The songs are really good, and you get a great mixture. I definatley suggest it for anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Great Live CD By England's Biggest Hitmakers.......2006-12-23

LIVE is a great album by Status Quo, a British hard rock band who've racked up more hit singles than the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. The second disc contains most of the best songs, but the first disc has its moments, too. The fact that band leaders Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt believe that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since 2005 for drug smuggling was wrongfully convicted makes LIVE an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

5 out of 5 stars PLAY THIS LOUD AS POSSIBLE.......2006-10-09

I've been into hard rock and bluesy rock for 38 yrs. I'm 53 now and have survived over 200 live concerts. This live concert is the kinda music that people like me live for. Beg, borrow or steal for the money to buy this double CD, you will be glad you did. It is the kinda CD that will make you go out and buy a new stereo.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best live albums I've ever heard.......2006-08-26

First of all, being from the USA, there is next to nothing available here from Status Quo, except for some imports in specialist independent CD shops, and even those are few and far between. Thankfully, Amazon has everything in print from Europe, so I was able to purchase this and "Gold," which is a best of 2-CD set. I love that CD, too. I've been a fan since the 1970s after I bought a 45 of "Down Down" by mistake (I somehow picked it up instead of another record) and always wondered why I never heard this band on the radio (most Americans have never heard of Status Quo; their only big hit here was "Pictures of Matchstick Men"). Anyway, I had the original US copy of this album on Capitol records (with different artwork and fewer songs from what I remember), and the sound on this 2-cd set is superior. I recommend this album to any fan of Status Quo, or 70's hard rock and boogie rock in general.

4 out of 5 stars An overlooked but tremendous live release!.......2005-07-07

If you have fond memories of being up front at concerts by the likes of Humble Pie, Black Oak Arkansas, Rory Gallagher, Foghat, the Faces, BTO, Thin Lizzy, Skynyrd, etc...then you'll love this one from the Quo. It's been remastered, the sound quality is outstanding, the tracks are in the right running order, and the bottom line is that it's good enough to make you wish you were there at the Apollo in Glasgow the night they recorded it!

I first bought this on vinyl when it originally came out and I still think that one of the best things about Quo was that they did a decidedly better job than most bands of that era at knowing when to take a full on rocker of a song and throttle it back just long enough to make you sit up and listen closer...just in time for them to slam right back into the rocking!

For me, the first disc of this set is worth the price of admission alone - I love every last glorious second of "Forty-Five Hundred Times"!. The second disc tends to get a mite repetitive before it's all over, but that's a very small quibble.

Heretical or not, this tends to find its way into my changer more often than even Skynyrd's "One More From The Road".

Buy it, turn it up, it'll make you smile!

    5 out of 5 stars WOW!!! STUNNING!!!.......2005-07-06

One of the truly great live albums, by a fantastic live group at its peak. It's most unfortunate that most of North America never really tuned in to Status Quo, to see why they are SO BIG in Britain, Europe and the rest of the world. Released in early 1977, it mostly features tracks from their two best albums, "Hello" and "Quo" from 1973 and 1974 respectively, although they do dip back to earlier albums like "Piledriver", and even 1970's "Ma Kelly's Greasy Spoon". Highlights? The entire 2-disc set is one complete highlight! Much harder rocking than on the original albums, especially from Roll Over Lay Down through Backwater to Just Take Me on to 4500 Times! The finale of Roadhouse Blues followed by the encores of Caroline and Bye Bye Johnny are stunning. For those only familiar with the late 60's psychedelic sound of Pictures of Matchstick Men, be prepared to have your socks rocked off!! Play it LOUD!!

    5 out of 5 stars SPICE 1 - GREATEST MC (EVER).......2006-04-15

Being from Australia, there is not a lot of hip-hop around, and the rap that people around here do know is always the most commercial (ie. eminem, 50 cent). A friend who is also into American hip-hop introduced me to Immortalized in 2002, when I was 19. I had never heard Spice 1 before and the moment i had put it on I knew straight away that this man represented a completely unique edge within gangster rap. After hearing Immortalized I listened to the rest of Spice 1 albums, and have listened to him practically every single day since then. Spice 1 has made a huge impact on me as a human being and will continue to do so. "The Last Dance" is my favourite Spice 1 album. Spice realy shines on this album and clearly stands out over any MC that features with him. Look at tracks like 'Murder Man Dance' and listen to Spice's verse. He has so much style and can bust harder lyrics than anybody. Just listen to 'Kizz My Azz' of 2004's 'The Ridah' Just to see the amazing versatility he can create within one song, all by himself. Spice still is releasing continuos albums nearly every year, which nobody else seems to be doing. Look at his latest album 'The Truth' from 2005, which to me is already a classic. I have already listened to this cd over 50 times the whole way through and am no where near sick of it. Spice 1 doesn't get anywhere near the credibility he deserves. He is a pioneer of this genre. I already know that when I buy a new spice 1 album that there is no chance of being disappointed which is something I cannot say for any other act.

4 out of 5 stars Much better than you'd think.......2005-07-10

After close to a decade being on Jive Records and releasing some timeless classics (to me ALL of his albums on that label are classics), Spice 1 goes independent on this one. Actually, quite a few of the songs there were released on compillations, but most of the material is fresh and new. To me, this is a very important album. It's not as perfect as his previous ones, so why do I call it important? Because I think that on this album, it's the last time we get to hear Spice's trademark sick-flows. On this album, Spice came out with much energy and heat. In his albums after "Tha Last Dance" (released in 2000), it's seems that although the albums were good, Spice 1 lost his edge a little bit. But on this album, you still get some of the old Spice 1. The reasons I didn't give it 5 stars are that first of all, there are quite a few mediocre guest rappers on it, and that takes away from the album quite a bit. However you also get some awesome star appearences - C-Bo, MJG, UGK, Bad Azz and Black C all come out with some tight verses and cotribute a lot to the songs they're on. Most of the production is still very good, handled by some relatively known producers (such as G-Man Stan, DJ Squaky, DJ Daryl and a few others) and that's also something that changes in his future albums (Spicebierg Slim and The Rydah) were produced mostly by some no-name producers. As I told you, Spice 1 came out with quite much heat on this album, lyrically he still doesn't dissapoint, although he's not as original and violent as he once was. The bottom line is that "The Last Dance" (I have no idea why he named it that way - maybe he thought it would be his last album) is a solid West Coast album, by one of it's legends Spice 1 - still hungry, still gangsta, and still one of the realest ones out there. This album was very slept-on, since it was released on a small label (Mobb Status?? - who are these guys?) In these days, when we're surrounded by those industry-made-thugs Spice 1 is just something else, and he stands above his competition and he deserves his music to be heard.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best Spice 1 albums - and that says a lot!.......2004-12-12

Wow! From the minute you pop the CD into your stereo, you will be amazed! Spice 1 doesn't bother with an intro song for this CD, it comes out banging hard from the second it starts. It's not strictly party music, gangster music or mellow, but instead a mix of the three together. Anybody who's looking for a refreshing change to mainsteam from everybody else, I'd suggest buying this CD. Trust me, your friends will wonder how you found such an underrated rapper.

    4 out of 5 stars solid 7th solo cd from a great.......2004-11-03

Spice 1 comes out hard once again. Has a few great songs on this one but also has a few below-par songs (which I think he's only made less than a half dozen on his fist 6 solo efforts). Nevertheless it's a good cd and a must have for Speezy Ace fans, as usual he doesn't let you down. Production is pretty good and handle by a number of producers, G-Man Stan (4 songs), DJ Squeaky (2 songs), and Pimp C, BLACKjack, Payback, Sean T, DJ Darryl, and Beezie 200 all do 1 song. All he needed was some airplay on the east coast and he'd have sold over 15 million solo records. It has 1 classic, 2 near classics, and only 1 weak track and 2 that are ok. He's been puttin' out quality cd's on major labels since late '91 and made his first cd in '88 so you know he's got longevity & skill.

This is my favorite cd I own. Spice1 still brings it hard, but differently from his other albums. My favorite song off this is Player Pieces which i've listened to about a million times now. Everyone who has ever listened to that song loves it. Get this cd, 7-8 of the songs are really good.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting Era For Quo.......2007-01-23

This is an interesting collection of songs when the band was new.
They hit it big with some early hits, and there is a few hard to get songs here.
    Great Cd this.
Some of these songs are very good although some may sound outdated.
I like this era of the band though, they produced alot of good songs.

3 out of 5 stars Status Quo - 'Singles Collection 1966-73' (Castle Music).......2004-09-22

To be honest,I was just a tad let down after getting a copy of this 2-CD release.Probably my OWN fault because I had expected to much.Price was good, though.Don't get me wrong,it's still a decent retrospect of the band.Disc one has the band's singles from 1966 to 1973.I notice that tracks like "Pictures Of Matchstick Men","Ice In The Sun","Technicolour Dreams" and "Paradise Flats" appear to be written around one riff.Which is a good thing for a '60's psychedelic band.Trouble is about halfway through disc one,the songs grow kind of stale.Disc two, however has many unreleased tunes from the two pre-Quo bands the members were in,The Spectres and Traffic Jam.Actually, disc two MAY be better than disc one.Out of a total of 49 songs,I'd say about 30 of them are between decent to really good.Would make a nice gift for some who is a Status Quo fan.

    4 out of 5 stars Sixties psychedelia.......2004-01-13

This 2-disc set showcases the early psychedelic Status Quo before they reinvented themselves as a boogie rock band with the single Paper Plane in about 1973.

It contains a number of gems like the divine Pictures Of Matchstick Men with its swirling guitars, Ice In The Sun, Black Veils Of Melancholy, Down The Dustpipe and In My Chair, all tuneful numbers with impressive arrangements.

Other songs like Price Of Love and When My Mind Is Not Live are less memorable though still listenable, including
Paradise Flats with its spoken section and their interpretation of Are You Growing Tired Of My Love.

Disc 2 contains a nice enough version of Spicks And Specks plus various rarities, covers and alternative versions of the hits on the first disc. It's a pity that some of their other covers of sixties hits have been omitted, such as Sheila and Green Tambourine, as these were interesting at least.

This music is very different from the direction they took for the next three decades, but as sixties psychedelic pop-rock it stands up well. I give it four stars for the aforementioned classics.

Dead Celebrity Status is the new band of Yaz and Bobbie, a canadian duo who did time in a rap-metal band called Project Wyze a few years back. Sort of picking up where their old band left off, "blood Music" is more hip hop flavored then their previous efforts, although i guess yo could call it "heavy hip hop"
Lyrically, the band presents songs about the state of the world, music scene, government and relationship problems. check em out, ya wont be dissapointed.

Great music, flows and everything. So yesterday I went to the Vans Warped Tour with a friend of mine I wanted to see a few bands, but in general most of the bands at the Warped Tour are not that good. I found some good music even though I was not really looking, for an example Dead Celebrity Status. I came across them without knowing who they were and what they were all about. My friend wanted to go see Rise Against who was performing like 15 or so feet away with a huge group of people and I went to see Dead Celebrity Status and let me tell you F**** Rise Against and all those pu*y sh** this music right here has an amazing vibe and it was a great performance with Yassen and Bobby the two of them had some of the greatest flows and some sick rhymes that I have heard in quite awhile. To think I have never heard of them, but they did appear on XXX: State of the Union soundtrack, which people say is a great soundtrack.

Now for the album I just got it yesterday after there set at the Vans Warped Tour and on this record they shine and if I had to choose a favorite song well that is impossible because this is too hard to choose one, and if all read this much love keep it all and stay true. I guarantee sometime soon we will all be hearing of Dead Celebrity Status just like all those other names like 50 Cent (who by the way compared to Dead Celebrity Status has nothing.) Oh yeah Yassen and Bobby the two of you are so kind, thank you for the autographs and I respect you two dearly and when you come back to LA I will be there in the front listening and everything.

NOW WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR GO AND BUY THIS CD, TRUST ME YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

Here is a great collection of songs from a excellent hard rocking band.
This is a collection of their hits and alot more.

Those earlier tunes here were excellent, and they realy had a style and sound of their own.
You can hear the changes musicly they went through with this compillation of songs.

5 out of 5 stars Yet Another Great CD from Status Quo.......2007-04-28

ROCKIN' ALL OVER THE WORLD is yet another great CD by Status Quo. Some people say that their titanic period ended with the 1976 live album, but that's not true. This album includes many great rockers, including an incredible cover of the John Fogerty-penned title track. The fact that bandleaders Francis Rossi and Rick Parfitt believe that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since 2005 for drug-smuggling was falsely convicted makes this CD an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

5 out of 5 stars Bravo Mr. Turan !!!!.......2005-04-01

While the music contained on this album might not be some of Quo's best, my review is mainly for the remastering and sonic quality. The only people on the planet who will ever read this, are you, the Status Quo fan. You already know all about the music. This review goes out to "you all", the Status Quo "fanatics", who are contemplating dropping some cash on this purchase. Do it!! Tim Turan has done a fabulous job with all these remasters and "RAOTW" might be the crowning jewel of the lot. Like I mentioned earlier, musically "RAOTW" may be one of the "frantic fours" lesser moments; and the sound quality on past releases (even the vinyl) did drag the album down a bit. The remastering job here does just the opposite, it actually makes the album better. I can write about brightness, sonic nuances, warmth & tone until I'm blue in the face and still just be scratching the surface.
So enough already, just add this to cart now. You might as well buy all the Status Quo remasters now and save on shipping. You're eventually going to buy them all anyway, so now's as good as time as any!
