Inspirational.......2007-07-19

I am currently going through some emotional trials and tribulations in my life right now. I went to the Father for support by focusing on the Word of God. But in addition to this, Deitrick's CD has given me the inspiration I need through his lyrics to help me began the healing of my broken spirit. I am loving this cd!! I have played it over and over, driving in my convertible, playing it on my computer or home. It is not the traditional gospel cd that someone may be accustomed to. I believe that in the world in which we live, this is the cd that may just bring someone to the Lord wihtout them even stepping foot in a church or encouraging them to live a life pleasing to the Lord!! The producers of the cd are Tim & Bob who normally produce for secular artists and they have defintely done a job well done. The tracks for each song bring a fresh wind to the gospel genre!! I especially love track 10 "So Good To Be In Love" and track 8 "I'm The One" because not only does it minister to your spirit and soul, it moves you. So thank you Deitrick Haddon for allowing your ministry to go beyond the traditional walls of contemporary gospel. God commands us to go out and into the uttermost parts of the world and you have been obedient. I recommend this cd highly! IT ROCKS!!!!!!!

Spectacular - *I Love This Album*.......2007-06-17

This is a Great Gospel album, its inspirational and well put together. I used to listen to "Worldly" R & B but when I heard this album, I totally stopped listening to "worldly" music. There's nothing wrong with adding a lil flavor, so "haters" ya'll need to lay off of that "pharisee" mind set and open your ears because this is some good music! I found this album very influencual, for example: "7 Days" talk about him thinking of God 24/7, I dont see anything wrong with that! You can definitely bump this in your car, instead of some "worldly" music!

I'd recommend this album to anyone especially to those who just started listening to gospel music! All the tracks are GREAT, no need to skip thru because there all pleasant tracks. My favorite track is "Heavenly Father" I love that joint! Also "Clap Your Hands" that joint is nice, its about him praising God no matter what people think of him and how he looks while doing so, Praising God while he has the chance! All I can say is check it out! Praise The Lord!

Best Gospel/R&B Album Ever!!!.......2007-06-06

My whole family loves this album! I have dozens of gospel albums and this is the only one I can play straight through without skipping songs. Deitrick and his producers put together a project that is musically flawless. His artistry shines like never before.

Spiritually, I found this album just as inspirational, but much more professional than his previous work. I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. Maybe, this album isn't geared toward pleasing judgmental Pharisees, who are bound by tradition and despise change. Instead, maybe he made this one for the lost and for the real fishermen and women in the field. He made this one for people who like great sounding music and love when Jesus does a new thing.

Great singing and excellent value for money.......2004-09-19

This is probably one of the best anthologies of Purcell songs around, and not just because it's two-for-one pricing means it contains twice as much music (CD1:74'24" & CD2: 77'41")! Nancy Argenta has an irrepressible sense of style and crystal clear diction. But unlike Emma Kirby, whose vocal purity can become tiresome, these renditions radiate warmth. She is also, I have found, more consistently involving than any one of the singers in Hyperion's three disc survey of Complete Secular Songs (recently reissued as a single set). One marvels at how she judiciously balances restraint and emotional forthrightness. The accompaniments (archlute, viola da gamba, harpsichord, and organ) are well judged and blend with the voice, all helped by an excellently defined recording acoustic. This is an absolute winner at any price!

More than two hours of beautiful 17th century 'ayres'.......2001-08-02

Two CDs, totaling more than 150 minutes of sparsely-arranged (never more than 3-5 instruments at a time), sweetly-sung, 350 year old 'ayres' (a typically English form of secular music). Nancy Argenta's soprano voice is lovely, silvery indeed as her name implies. The instruments are a discreet but friendly accompaniment to her solo voice. Perhaps the instruments are a little too discreet -- there are times when I wish they were a touch more prominent. But that is a very, very minor complaint. A beautiful collection, and quite well worth the money.

I can imagine being there again, in Norway, contemplating the magnificent fjords in majestic silence, listening to the pure waterfalls.

There are so many sounds, many images, many moods that other pianists were incapable of capturing. Pletnev makes you dream and feel, he tells you simple stories of life, and you listen, fascinated, wondering how such simple things could be so complex.

There's a grace, a refinement, a harmony, a sensibility never heard before from Grieg. It's melancholy. It's joy. Iridescent beauty...

Splendid Grieg from Mikhail Pletnev.......2004-03-21

Mikhail Pletnev is unquestionably one of our finest pianists. His splendid playing is not only replete with much drama and pathos, but also has a strong intellectual streak that is as vivid as Brendel's. This splendid recording of Grieg's piano sonata along with some of the most famous Lyric Pieces demonstrates that he is as convincing an interpreter of Grieg as he is of Chopin, Rachmaninoff or Haydn. Along with Leif Ove Andsnes' recent recording of Grieg's Lyric Pieces, Pletnev's splendid account is as brilliant as the classic Deutsche Grammophon recording by Emil Gilels. Indeed, in some of Pletnev's performances, most notably the Wedding Day at Troldhaugen, I doubt I have heard the Lyric Pieces played better with such warmth and vividness approaching Impressionism. Pletnev's exceptional performance of the Piano Sonata may be the finest I have heard. Without question this fine CD is among Deutsche Grammophon's best recent recordings of works for the solo piano.

Judge for yourself!.......2002-03-07

Please ignore the editorial review of this album. I just heard it on the radio and am rushing to buy it. I've heard a number of recordings of most of these pieces, and have never heard them more beautifully played. Grieg can sound really rinky-dink or absolutely profound and moving; this playing is the latter. And the piano that he's playing on has one of the loveliest tones for this kind of music that I've heard.

Go To Bomb The Twist To Sample First!.......2006-07-16

I think it's human nature that you generally will only write "good" comments on something and don't feel as motivated to write "bad" comments, you just don't go through the trouble. That is why if you look on Amazon you will see that 80-90% of ANYTHING will have 4-5 star reviews. Well, 5,6,7,8's deserve a "bad" comment. I saw a new wave Japenese group as a warm up for I think Devo in 1980 and that was my first taste of Asian rock, it sucked. Its 26 years later and I have been all over the world (sailor), and I have seen TONS of phillipino rock bands and at first I was like, wow they are pretty good, after 20 + years I say, this is getting pretty old. 5,6,7,8's sound just like the asian bar bands you are seeing all over the world (even in freakin Vegas, sigh). You might buy it as a gag but I doubt after you listen once you will replay it. Check out the samples on their "Bomb The Twist" release before you buy to make sure this is what you want. They are not cool in my book, just another freakin asian bar band that put out some cd's to sell and found some suckers.

Wide Scream Audio.......2005-10-19

If you like punk rock, new wave, surf music from Quentin Tarantino movies, surf music from Southern Culture on the Skids, Dick Dale, and Link Wray - then you will find this CD entertaining. The influence of Dick Dale's guitar style and the general sound of 60s surf music is prevalent in many songs. This CD is a chronology of, what I assume to be, their greatest hits. As their name indicates, they do draw from the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. Influences from bebop to blues to rockabilly to acid rock can be heard somewhere on this CD. Don't be hung up on lyrics because their English is not very understandable, especially in their early work. But the raw, unrefined, genuine garage sound of their early work makes up for it. Although they clearly pay tribute to The Tubes by closing the song Pinball Party with a most articulate "don't touch me there".

There is an assortment of 50s style bebop tunes and covers, which I found to be the least listenable of the collection. I have found that there are about 8 songs I skip when listening to this CD and the last 8 songs are great (if you dig my first sentence in this review). The other songs that I do not skip have undeniable redeeming qualities and serve as a righteous tribute to this bands influences.

What this band has uniquely going for it is the effective use of screaming. Screaming is prevalent in their early work (like in the song Scream) and is somewhat trademarked in their later work as you hear the placement and tonal quality of the screaming become refined over time (as in the song Jet Coaster).

Overall, if you like rock music that is far from the mainstream, and that is guaranteed to wake up the neighbors and the dance floor, this CD is a worthy investment.

Razor Sharp Fun.......2004-08-14

My review is based upon the final six songs of this CD; the actual rating is 3 1/2 stars so I rounded up instead of down. Until about two days ago I had no idea the 5.6.7.8.'s were even associated with the Kill Bill movies, and I was also unable to convince anyone that the 5.6.7.8.'s existed, even among Japanese Americans in Southern California. I once owned a CD copy of their EP "I Was a Teenage Cavewoman" that was released on the Tokyo Karate label in Australia in 1992 or 1993. I have been trying to locate a replacement copy for many years.

All the songs that were on that album happen to be the same last six songs on "Bomb the Rocks." Being a fan of 80's New Wave since I was a teen and not having much exposure to true Punk music, the best I can say is that the 5.6.7.8.'s seem to be more of a gritty, fairly hard-hitting (at times) and whimsical garage surfer-punk band. Their English clearly needs work but the music is too darn catchy to care. One girl they refered to as "Velvet Voice" on the "Cavewoman" album is anything but velvety. She has the most impressive gravel-like scream I have ever heard from a woman in any band, and she expresses her talent often.

"Eddie is a Sweet Candy" feels about as fun as the old 60's tune "Wipe-Out" and is definitely a catchy high-energy tune, worth repeating back-to-back plays. "Blue Radio" is a slow heart break tune that is anything but heart breaking. Velvet Voice opens the song by moaning her woes and floats us through a few verses before unleashing her tormented shriek which carries through to the finale. If the stereo is too loud the neighbors might wonder who is dying.

The 5.6.7.8.'s are really in a class all their own although I tend to liken them to the B-52's (only slightly), pre-1990's Divinyls, Fuzzbox (the 5.6.7.8.'s are nowhere near as tame), and Daisy Chainsaw (the "Eleventeen" album).

Simply put, the 5.6.7.8.'s are weird, unconventional, loud, and loads of great party fun. Unlike what the cover art might suggest, I do not recall any hints of racial bigotry (the skeletons in Nazi German helmets) and no foul language, although I do remember some very mild (and almost undetectable) sexual innuendos. It's a shame it took a movie to put them on the map about 15 years or more after their debut. This is an outstanding group of female punk-rockers. I intend to buy this CD and still hunt down a replacement for "I Was a Teenage Cavewoman."

Not the greatest (catered to a very selective and non-mainstream audience), but still highly recommended.

A search for Deep Purple's "Smoke on [in] the water," brought up this title. I rate it only #1 because I could not locate the "Smoke on the Water" listing. Amazon seems to be having an indexing problem.

Awesome first album!.......2007-01-11

This is a truly talented man. I love his music and his voice! I'm not a fan of him as an actor but only because the shows he plays in aren't my type BUT his music definitely IS my type! What a voice! If you like Engleburt and B.J. Thomas then you will absolutely LOVE Peter's voice AND his music. These are the perfect song choices for him. I can't wait for his next album! Please Peter make it SOON!

Pleasantly surprised ;-).......2005-12-05

This cd isn't half bad. I've loved Peter Gallagher ever since I first saw him in While You Were Sleeping right through to Center Stage and now of course The O.C. But I never knew he could sing. He's got quite a good voice and the songs he's done suit him well. I particularly love When Something Is Wrong With My Baby and Still Got The Blues. I recommend this cd for anyone who loves smooth jazz sounding type songs and if they prefer them sung by a nice vocalist.

This cd has some real good music, but don't plan on ripping it to iTunes or any other type of digital audio player - cause you can't! This is 2005, we don't like carrying around frisbees anymore!

I've Acted Out My Love on Stages.......2005-11-14

With Hilary Duff and Lindsay Lohan already crossed-over into music and albums by Paris Hilton and Nicole Ritchie sadly on the way, it was only a matter of time before a cast member from The O.C. made their very own album. What is surprising is that it is not by Marissa or Ryan but by papa Cohen. Granted I don't watch The O.C., so I know Peter Gallagher mostly from the best reality ever, Denis Leary's short lived Contest Searchlight where Gallagher got run over by a car. Hopefully one of these days that will finally make it to DVD. But anyways.

Unlike others who try to juggle a singing career after establishing themselves as an actor, Gallagher actually came up through musical theater appearing in musicals such as Hair and Guys and Dolls. On 7 Days in Memphis, Gallagher traveled down to the city mentioned in the title to Ardent Studios to record the songs, all of which were pulled from soul tracks that were recorded in that very studio. Keeping with the vibe of the studio, Gallagher used many musicians from the area including Steve Cropper of Booker T. & the M.G.'s. Legendary soul singer Betty Wright even shows up to duet on When You Move You Lose.

Gallagher's song selection was impeccable, but still doesn't come close to pulling off anything as good as the original. But it's doubtful he was trying to live up to them in the first place but rather giving them new life for a new generation. His best song choice would be the Donnie Hathaway (no relation to Anne) classic, and one of my personal favorite, A Song for You.

Who knew Peter Gallagher could sing like this? I saw him perform songs from the CD on Regis and Kelly and The View, and he is an amazing singer with a soulful, sexy voice. This is the kind of music that makes you want to dim the lights and dance with someone you love. I highly recommend this CD for anyone who loves bluesy, soul stirring music. I'm ordering mine today!
