This triple disc provides plenty of party fuel. The first CD features Dimitri from Paris's solid set, while the other discs contain the DJ's source material in original, unmixed form. Those unmixed discs reveal what was left out of pared-down, hit-radio versions of disco songs: flights of jazz-funk improv and highly danceable sections dominated by Latin percussion. The Latin element is big on Disco Forever; not only is it brimming with sensual samba and tango rhythms, but Spanish vocals grace three of the tracks. One highlight is Touch's no-nonsense instrumental version of Diana Ross's classic "Love Hangover." Skylite's slinky "Smile"; Silver, Platinum and Gold's tense, ecstatic "I Got a Thing"; and Universal Robot Band's supergroovy "Barely Breaking Even" also stand out. THIS IS A GREAT CD. ITS FULL OF FREESTYLE HITS FROM THE LATE 80S AND EARLY 90S. MOST OF THE SONGS ON THIS CD DONT EVEN GET PLAYED ON THE RADIO ANYMORE. IF YOU WORK OUT THIS IS THE CD FOR YOU. I HAVE A COUPLE FAVORITES ON THIS CD- "TWO TO MAKE IT RIGHT" AND "SPING LOVE". 2 SONGS I GREW UP LISTENING TO. I WOULD SPEND MY LAST $20 ON THIS CD AND I THINK YOU SHOULD TOO.

This CD has many great popular Freestyle songs .There is no reason to not get it.
Although I recomend the two disk version, this CD is also very good but not as long. I would give the 2 disk set a 5 star rating.
The one disk will make you feel cheated compared to the 2 disk set.
Any freak would beg for the full pallette of songs.
This one disk version omits the biggest Freestyle star .
Ms.Judy Torres is not on the CD.
Judy has been feeding us Freaks the beat for our feet for a long time and still does.
Where would Freestyle be without her and all her sexy vocal Latinaness.
Her missing may hurt sales.Whoever caused that made a big mistake.
It gives me many hours of dance pleasure a week.
I wish that a volume 2 and more of ths CD becomes available.
I would also like to take this opportunity to say Thank You to all the Freestyle singers who provide this pleasure to us Freaks.

Who could ever forget such classic songs such as "The Groove Line","Always and Forever",Eyeballin', and "Boogie Nights"? This band truly covered the R&B charts with these top hits, and made their mark in the annals of the music world. These songs have stood the test of time and are still very popular today as they were back then. One of the things the listener will find is the band was very well rounded and was very diverse in their musical talents. From start to finish,this album will definately get your hands clapping and your toes tapping.

How can you miss with songs like Grooveline, Boogie Nights and Always and Forever?!?! Heatwave generated some of their own heat in the 80's and this compilation CD captures the best of their talents.

Heatwave were the thang during the late '70s. Dance music was at it's height and "The Groove Line" flew up the charts. It became one of their biggest hits and one of the biggest records that year. You couldn't go to a club without hearing "The Groove Line" or "Boogie Nights". Of course they had more singles outside their dance cuts. "Always & Forever" one of their most enduring hits ever. The song became a major popular hit among R&B fans. It's a out the box classic slowjam and many people have later used the record for their weddings. "Mind Blowing Decisions" is one of their smoothest singles and "Ain't No Half Steppin" became a popular radio aired track during it's album release and it has also been used as a standard for Hip-Hop sampling. Get the album if your a fan of old school love songs with meaningful lyrics great singing or dance music but if you're just looking for some great music, this album is good for any music collection.

Forever remembering Phyllis.......2005-05-13

Forever With You is by far the best compilation of unreleased treasures showcasing her wide range of talent that the industry intentionally ignored. Rather, than the poorly thought out albums that she was forced to be release during her rocky tenure at Arista, it took Kenny Gamble to produce a work of art that Phyllis, had she been with us, would have been more than proud of.

From the upbeat, snazzy opening title track, Forever With You, she shows fabulous control and command of her voice. Though heavily edited, track #2, Funny How Love Goes, gives the Phyllis fan a glimpse of her personal heartache of forlorned and love postponed. Come Right or Not At All and How Long can easily be anthems of feminine liberation, which Phyllis aptly belts out effortlessly. The words were truly her--they exuded Phyllis' no nonsense approach. Then there's Someone To Love--a heart wrenching song that Phyllis pours her soul into. The words embrace and caress her--becoming a part of her. To listen to her croon those lyrics, you can sense Phyllis' deep desire to have someone to love couldn't have been more real.

She goes through the entire gaunlet of emotions and genres. From the dance floor rifts and soul stirring heartbreak ballads to the remake of the Stylists Hurry Up This Way Again, to the very jazzy number Set A Little Trap, Phyllis' range easily blends and meshes into a very classy CD that should have something Phyllis could have truly received her flowers for while she was still among us. This CD shall always be Forever with her fans.

A Classy Farewell.......2004-04-16

I was pleasantly surprised by the sophistication of this posthumous release. There is a flow and consistency to this song-cycle that is not present in many of Phyllis' other recordings. "Funny How Love Goes" is an absolute gem, a sinewy groove ballad that grows on the listener with repeated listenings. Other stand-outs include "Hurry Up this way Again," and the affecting, "The Kids," which benifits from a simple and very sincere lyric. What else can I say but that to purchase this CD.

Phyllis shines like a 24-karat diamond on this CD........2003-06-13

Phyllis Hyman's soulful, emotive and haunting vocals shine throughout this CD. Her work on the ballads is (as always) superb. On the house-flavored "How Long" her voice soars majestically over the percussive,propulsive rhythm track-in my opinion this proves Phyllis' talents were limitless.

Phyllis Hyman's voice is very rich as she takes us through her journeys. I've a true collection of her work. It a grand collection of rhythm and blues and jazz standards such as "In a Sentimental Mood" which is one of my favorites. The single "Forever with You" is an upbeat, latin, afro-cuban sort of flow. It is inspiring song which is danceable. Phyllis Hyman had truly evolved on this CD. She co-wrote as well as written many of the songs on this "Forever with You" CD. This is a true farewell as she sings "Forever with You" to let her fans realize she will always be with them and not to be sad for her as she departed this world. Phyllis Hyman was a beautiful woman who could command a stage, concert, and sell anything with her sultry voice.

Forever Great.......2007-02-25

When I started looking for a cd of Diana's greatest hits I found that there were hundreds to choose from.
If I had to buy the cd's with the songs i liked I would have to buy 10 greatest hits cd's, but with 'Forever Diana' I got all the songs i really loved and a great book in a great box.
I'm not a die hard fan but with this box collection, it does it for me.
It has all the songs I know and love and the quality is good.
Sometimes its a hit or miss when a record company releases something like this but I think they did good.
Its Diana all the way from the Supremes to solo, and for a simple fan like me I am happy with the result.
Diana is cool and this box collection is great.

A Great Selection of Songs.......2005-10-12

My daugher gave me this collection of Diana Ross CDs a few years ago. I like the way the first CD begins with Diana's career with the Supremes where she sings all of the songs that made her and the Supremes great. Then, the next three CDs focus on Diana's solo career. A great collection to have, if you're a fan of The Supremes, and of Diana Ross.

I borrowed this CD set from the library, and I absolutely loved it! All of my favorite songs from Diana's music career are on there. This includes songs from the Supremes and her solo career. Even some of the concert songs are really cool. Just to prove it to you, my favorite songs are "Stop! In the Name of Love", "Home" (from "The Wiz"), "What A Wonderful World" (Live), "Amazing Grace" (Live), and "If We Hold On Together" (from "The Land Before Time"). I haven't listened to all of the tracks yet, but I'll tell you this much, this album is SWWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MAYBE FOREVER BUT NOT COMPLETE.......2005-05-15

It's a shame that when box sets like these are put together the artists doesn't take the opportunity to give a complete anthology of their hit singles. It's obvious when looking at the track list of this 4 CD set that there are some hits missing. I don't mind adding album cuts etc but they should at least start with the songs most people are looking for. Also personally speaking a Diana Ross set should focus solely on her solo career. There are many Supremes anthologies out there to take care of that period of her career. That would leave room for all the hits that are omitted like the US top 40 hits One Love In My Lifetime, So Close and Pieces Of Ice and the many UK top 40 hits DooBeDooD'NDooBe DooBeDooD'NDooBe, All Of My Life, Stop Look Listen, No One Gets The Prize, One More Chance, Cryin' My Heart Out For You, Tenderness, It's Never Too Late, Touch By Touch, Experience, Dirty Looks, Mr Lee, Paradise and Heart (Don't Change My Mind). Some of them might not of been huge hits but they were considered good enough to release as singles from their respective albums so they should be included here.

The liner notes say that the songs have been remastered but they don't sound much better than previous releases but they still sound pretty good. For some reason the first two tracks on disc 2 are in mono and are in stereo on other releases.

The first disc containing the Supremes material is all in mono except for tracks 8, 22 and 23. Why this was done is a mystery to me. Motown seem to be doing this a lot on the newer reissues.

I can recall this band when i was a child having alot of hits.Some of the songs i remember from those days were S.O.S. and Waterloo.My mum bought some of their albums and i just loved a heap of their songs.By the late 70's i started ignoring them as they got so much attention by the media.But i still liked alot of their tunes.Radio stations seemed to ignore this band alot in the 80's here.But i heard some of their songs and after so many years of not hearing them they sounded damn good,so i went and got a few albums.This was 1989 and i got right into them again.I always hoped this band would get back together,but the news is that they will not.Thats a shame,but there is so much music to reflect on.Every now and then i play their songs,Some of my favorites are the 2 i mentioned and Honey Honey,I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do ,Mamma Mia ,Fernando ,Ring Ring ,The Winner Takes It All ,Under Attack and Thank You For The Music.There is also a stack of other songs i like.This is a good collection of their songs.

You all know ABBA, and this CD of theirs is, pure gold. Dont just listen to the well-known super hits, give an ear to the lesser-known beauties. Dont fear to buy---you will love this soft rock CD. I surely did.

Super-great and "Must Have.".......2001-10-22

I was amazed at the excellence of some of these songs. I really enjoyed listening to this set. It's great to take a close listen to this group since some of their stuff is amazing. I find that the songs I recognized from USA radio play were a large notch better than the rest of the stuff on the CDs as a general rule. I did not enjoy CD2 near as much but maybe I need to listen several more times.

Somebody amongst the three songwriters is an excellent poet because the lyrics on at least "The Winner Takes It all," "Fernando," and "The Day Before You Came" are great. "The Day Before You Came" (CD2) is 5 minutes and 45 seconds of unique lyrics, and interesting to try and interpret. I guess that one song is worth the price of CD2.

The "radio play" songs feature excellent drums and the bass player is good 'n' funky with great stuff.

My CD has the 4 signatures in gold on the back cover and I notice the signatures are engraved in the paper as if someone had actually signed them rather than just printed. Could that be?

"You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life... Ooh, see that girl, watch that scene, dig in the Dancing Queen" From the first, this double set captures you. Totally. Almost all the best ABBA songs are on these CDs. For example: Mamma Mia, Dancing Queen, The Winner Takes It All, On & On & On, Our Last Summer, Money, Money, Money, Chiquitita, and Waterloo, just to name a few. Not all the best are here, but its pretty close. I got this CD only a few months ago, and I am one of the biggest ABBA fans you'll find. Agnetha, Björn, Benny, and Frida have the greatest voices you'll ever hear. Get this set, or at least get "ABBA Gold", the first set, and you will be happy. Thank you for the music. Kirk out.

Excellent all-in-one collection.......2001-08-22

After hearing Dancing Queen in the movie "Muriel's Wedding" (which I also highly recommend), I decided to risk some of my money and buying ABBA Gold (the first CD in this collection). Ever since, I've been hooked!

There are many misconceptions about this amazing group (which here in the States is only known for Dancing Queen). They are sometimes seen as a one-hit wonder disco group, but a listen to either of the CDs will show that's simply not true.

With tear-jerking songs like "The Winner Takes It All" and the floor-stomping "Voulez-Vous", the songs on this 2-CD set will please all tastes.

Aside from all their major hits, B-sides and lesser-known tracks are also included here. "Our Last Summer" tells the story of an old romance in Paris with lyrical and vocal precision. "Ring Ring", their first hit in Europe is also included here.

It's a real shame that they broke up in the early 80's, but as shown by the highly successful musical "Mamma Mia!", these songs continue to live on. Some of today's music artists get by on either good looks or really elaborate production. But in the end, only the truly great survive, and ABBA is one group who has had enduring success for more than 25 years.

For those of you who have begun discovering the wonderful music of ABBA, then this collection will get you off to a great start.

This triple disc provides plenty of party fuel. The first CD features Dimitri from Paris's solid set, while the other discs contain the DJ's source material in original, unmixed form. Those unmixed discs reveal what was left out of pared-down, hit-radio versions of disco songs: flights of jazz-funk improv and highly danceable sections dominated by Latin percussion. The Latin element is big on Disco Forever; not only is it brimming with sensual samba and tango rhythms, but Spanish vocals grace three of the tracks. One highlight is Touch's no-nonsense instrumental version of Diana Ross's classic "Love Hangover." Skylite's slinky "Smile"; Silver, Platinum and Gold's tense, ecstatic "I Got a Thing"; and Universal Robot Band's supergroovy "Barely Breaking Even" also stand out. Only really the mixed CD in this 3 CD set is worth listening. But worth listening to it is! For all those cheesy Disco lovers out there (most of who have written reviews below) then this is not for you. The CD starts with a funky fast pace and then kind of looses the feel a little towards the later tracks. Still a high class CD though, if you are a huge fan of Dimitri then i garantee you will like this CD. If you have only ever heard Playboy Mansion and think all Dimitri CDs should be as good as that, then you will probably be dissapointed with what ever you buy (maybe try Dimitri Southport weekender, comes with 2 other disks but well worth a listen). Overall classy, stylish if not a little crazy and out there in places.

There are some good tracks here, but, no matter what the liner notes say, the hispanic remakes of disco classics are somewhere between totally superfluous and only for the fanatical disco collector, because musically they don't amount to much. Three CDs, and between them probably less substance than the (excellent) Night at the Playboy Mansion.

No, baby, this ain't no Sacrebleu. Leave it to the French (or at least those who hail "from Paris," as Dimitri is from Turkey) to salvage disco. Whether it be nouveaux discoheads like Sebastian Leger or those remixing extant disco like Bob Sinclar (whose Cerrone remixes are top-notch), disco is back and bigger and badder than ever. Dimitri has proven to be a major player in this scene, particularly with his Playboy Mansion mixes (the first of which is hands-above better than the second, which seems hastily thrown together). This lovely three-cd package gives listeners more motion for the ocean. Although there are a few dogs throw in the mix (e.g., "Flight to Jamaica," "Que Tal America," and the especially odious "I Got a Thing"), the gems outshine them (e.g., "Barely Breaking Even," "Love Hangover," "Let's Make Love," and "Chameleon"). Dimitri's mixing leaves a great deal to be desired. While the music is continuous, some of the segues are clumsy and impede the flow of the music. Novices to the neo-disco movement would be better served by Dimitri's "A Night at the Playboy Mansion" or even one of the discs from the Paris is Sleeping Respect is Burning series. These mixes would give listeners more cushion for the pushin', at a cheaper price, to boot. Or, as one reviewer recommended, grab Larry Levan's Paradise Garage mix or even something from the Loft series.

I am biased but Dimitire get's it right every time. This box consists out of a mixed cd and two cd's with the uncut/unremixed verions. Basically, you are dealing with pure disco here, a lot of Deja vu. If you hate disco, don't bother to buy it.

Despite the confident title of this 40th-anniversary collection, several of its selections were beginning to age badly even at the time of its 1998 release. Sure, comparing the hits of Rockwell, Shanice, and Today--not to mention a Puff Daddy remix of the Jackson 5's eternal "I Want You Back"--to chestnuts from Motown's golden era may be unfair, but the company's late-'90s keepers promote that less-than-flattering test by including the former here. At the same time, most of the true classics heard on Forever have been endlessly anthologized and played on oldies radio. Those who own absolutely none of the great music Motown unleashed from the '60s to the early '80s might find this double-CD overview instructive. Most everyone else will find their ears drawn to more listenable CDs. --Rickey Wright

I essentially agree with the reviewer. Much of the tracks on the CD are great, particularly by the Miracles, the Jackson 5, and the Supremes. But you would be better off getting those tracks off of greatest hits CD's of the particular artists. Most of the modern stuff is fairly forgettable.

Motown Trail From Music Leader To Follower on "Forever".......2000-07-30

"The Motown Sound" evolved from a product to a corporate symbol to representing a history and lifestyle, as much so in its own way as the Playboy bunny or Disney's Mickey Mouse. Motown Records celebrated its 40th birthday much as did the baby-boomer generation that built and reveres it; with half-shares dignity and defiance, welcoming the reverence of accomplishment while denying the effects of age.

"Motown 40 Forever" charts the label transition from trailblazer to follower. The music, even to the most devoted fan, becomes more faceless as you listen. "It's what's in the groves that count" was a Motown slogan, never more obvious than moving from the historic Four Tops, Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Supremes and Stevie Wonder hits to producer-driven one-shots on Disc Two.

The album has its misfires. Diana Ross' "When You Say That You Love Me" is a bombastic, worthless ballad; rapper/producer/icon Puff Daddy (praised as a cultural successor to Berry Gordy in the liner notes) mixes the Jackson Five's "I Want You Back" into an awkward rap/jazz/whatever medley. Nonetheless, the essential music on "Motown 40 Forever" is the 60s-into-70s singles that are its legacy. Those that are here are essential, but are found in better company on other collections.

I've never listened to Heatwave before other that the few songs I heard on the radio. So, when I picked this album up in my local library, I was surprised to hear how smooth and mellow the songs were. This album is as cool as they come. And, with one of my favorite songs, "Groove Line", this album is the joint. GROOVY, JACK!!!!!!

Probably the Best Heatwave Album for Casual Fans.......2001-02-28

There probably aren't too many die-hard Heatwave fans out there - probably a lot more just like a few songs by them, and would like to get them on CD. If that's you, this is your best bet. All three of their big hits - "Always and Forever", "Boogie Nights" and my favorite "Groove Line" - are here, along with seven lesser-known slices of late-70's pop. The only other ballad, "Happiness Togetherness", is all right, but suffers from an unwieldly chorus sang too many times. "Gangster of the Groove" was rather uninteresting, and I found the rather catchy number "Eyeballin'" harder to listen to than I should've - must be that weird title! The songs get better as the album goes along. "Send Out for the Sunshine" has good never-say-die lyrics; I'll have to throw it on next time I have a lousy day to get through. "Posin' 'til Closin'" is a light-hearted fun look at various disco denizens. "The Big Guns" as an (almost) instrumental can be taken any way you want it to, but it's catchy. And for less than six bucks?! Unless you're a completist, an album purist, or a millionaire, this is the one you'll want.

Bangin' Album.......2005-08-01

I recently went crate diggin for the first time in NYC and while I was there this album was playing in the background. Needless to say, I was blown away by the vocal and chord arrangements I was listening to. This album has a feel to it that will take you straight back to the 70s. The title cut "Make It Last Forever" is a classic right from the gate. Donna McGhee's voice is absolutely gorgeous over these disco-driven tracks. If you break yourself away from the music and listen to what she is saying, there is definitely a love/sexual message there. You can tell she is coming from the heart. Props to Greg Carmichael and Patrick Adams for putting together a fantastic album. This is a classic worth having and it has me looking for other Donna McGhee projects. The girl can go! One of my friends asked to borrow it and I replied: "No my brother. You gotta buy ya own!!!" For real though, you have to get this.
