About the Artist
The Ambient Temple of Imagination is loose collective dedicated to activating the world's imagination through experimentation. It is primarily promoted and conducted by Richard Sun & Seofon, but members exist worldwide, and anyone may become a member. The ATOI transmission is a continuation of the "ultimate conspiracy": to transmit information intended to prepare humanity for its role as global and galactic consciousness. The transmission began in San Francisco, where Richard planted the seeds of the ambient experiment in the rave scene, outside of the stagnant rock & roll circuit. With introspective chill spaces, ritual performance art, and spoken-word poetry, ATOI focused on the public ceremonial exploration of magick and sound. With its releases, ATOI intends to inject a virus into the music industry that will tranform it, over the next 20 years, into something new--a scientific expression, using technology to alter consciousness, evolving out of a dependence ! on chemicals and business into an awareness of vibration and sound. The ATOI sound is that of enlightened awareness using new technology, a process of discovery and learning through experimentation. Band-members: Richard Sun & Seofon with Thermal (Joshua Maremont) BPM/0 (Peter Becker) E.A.R. (Mark Wayne) IAO Core (Johannes Ayres, Daniel Callahan, April Dawn, Kira Westfall, et al.) Blue Screen (Justin Beck & Jordan Cadogan) Michael Moroney Stephen Kent Tahoe Foster Roy Robinson (of 23 Degrees) Randy Cone (Dionysus Dreams) and many others

2 out of 5 stars Disappointing.......2000-04-05

This album was lacking of substance. It should be filed under easy listening. Don't be fooled by the interesting packaging, in my opinion it is all fluff.

5 out of 5 stars ATOI say "awaken your mind.".......1999-12-16

I've heard talk of Ambient Temple Of Imaginationthrough various lists, but to be honest till this cd arrived would nothave gone out looking for any of their material. Which is a bit sad as this particular release, if it is indicative of what they do, not only rocks but is good fun at the same time. There is a positive energy about this recording that I like; it's uplifting to listen to with all of it's hidden meanings and symbolism. It appears to be some sort of retrospective of what ATOI (primarily Richard Sun and Seofon plus various members who are free to come and go by the sound of things ) have been doing between 1992-1997. A continuous pulsating rhythmic patterns throughout, didgeridoos (courtesy of Stephen Kent ?), screaming guitars, tons of electronics, effects, dissonant voices speaking out at times philosophical messages at you through the ether waves...I'm not au fait with what some may term Intelligent Dance Music, but I guess this may fit nicely into that genre. It's a double cd, with the second cd being live material. According to Seofon this second disc represents what ATOI and Thermal/Freezer sounded like in a live context between 1995-1997. There's lots of symbolism scattered throughout, kabbala, Sai Baba, Dali, Kali with her necklace of skulls standing over the body of Shiva etc. ATOI question where today's madness comes from, by way of conspiracy theory. It's upbeat,up tempo and most importantly good fun. Soft core techno wizz bangery meets tribal drumming. ATOI say "Awaken your mind through music." It's about being in the now and here, and being consciously aware amongst other things. There's more than enough info over at their extensive web site, so check it out for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars Great Thelemic and Occult music!.......1999-09-07

This is great music for Magickal and meditational purposes, not to mention just plain relaxation and listening! This music is an interesting mixture of tribal-style drums, soft techno, speaking vocals and sound effects. Some songs are relaxing, while others are arousing and energetic. Each song has it's own theme and meaning to it which can be used as a focus for meditation. Highly recomended!
