One Of Music's Lost Gems........2006-02-11

Sights Unseen is by the most best music that I have ever heard. From Lisa Shaw's vocals to Various DJ's. However, this CD is probably not well known throughout America or other countries, DJ Swingsett had done a very great job in mixing this CD as I respect the other DJ's as well. :>

Arctic chill, tropical humidity..........2005-08-26

Honestly, I picked up this album because of Lisa Shaw, but I was pleasantly suprised upon listening to the strict drum & bass numbers. I must say that Shaw is underused. Her voice makes an excellent pairing with the airy beats of "Doesn't Make It Right" and "Sights Unseen". She also appears on "I Think My Heart Is Telling," a sultry number just up her alley. I think that the real accomplishment here is that all three songs are more daring and technically accomplished than any of her Naked Music work. When she finally puts out a solo album I hope it sounds more like what she has done with DJ Swingsett & J Warrin, than her collaborations with Miguel Migs (which I like as well, but they ARE quite formulaic).

As for the rest of the album, it is accomplished and original. our two helmers prove that they are not only skilled remixers, but can produce quality material of their own. I particularly like "Taoist Funk" and "Mandeville Drop". The beats are trippy, but not so experimental that you will have a problem investing yourself into them. This is the kind of album meant to be listened to on vinyl, and it presents you with alternate sensations of arctic chill and tropical humidity. Does that sound aurally all-over-the-place? Well it isn't; the combination in the hands of these three artists works just right.

While in Toronto this past Feb chillin out on a little vacation I noticed this album in a record store.........I am open to all music especially something inovative or experimental so to speak........me being more of a hip hop head wasnt sure what to expect from this drum and bass icon.......sure i was familiar with him but not too much of his work.........picked the joint up and gave it a listen.....at first it was nothing special.....but after a few CLOSE listens it started to grow on me..........The production is beautiful, but my high point of the album is lisa shaw's hooks over these beautiful basslines! It gave the album this incredible feel.........everything just comes together like glue and paper!.........EXCELLENT album from the first track until the last.......definite listening satisfaction! The only problem I have is that I slep on this for what 10 months? DAMN ME!

Amazing CD.......2000-11-23

I originally bought the "Taoist Funk" single last year on a whim - I was in the record store and had the money to burn on a couple of extra plates of Vinyl. The single grew on me over time - and when I saw "Sights Unseen", I knew I had to buy it.

Agreeing with the previous reviewer, this is an album that grows on you. On first listening, I tossed it out of my player and moved on to my other discs. Subsequent plays of this CD got me infected with the sound. After owning this album for two weeks, I'm hooked on it. Absolutely hooked.

Especially good is the third track 'Doesn't Make it Right' and the last 'Indo' - however, the tracks in between (and before) are just as good after you let them grow on you.

QUALITY THROUGH AND THROUGH.......2000-06-20

I bought this cd on a lark, having no idea what it would sound like- and with no familiarity with the drum and bass genre. at first listen, it seemed a bit dense to my trance and trip-hop - oriented ears, but after a few spins, i have found that i cant get enought of this album- IT IS SUPERB. the beats and rhythms are precise, well arranged, and a joy to listen to. the vocals added by lisa shaw are beautiful and give this album the fullness and texture that make it one of the select five star cd's i own. if you like good beats, precision arrangement, and the kind of sound that gets better with every listen as you discover more detail and more texture, get your hands on this album! in search of more...
