Album Description

Alive & Swingin' features eleven classic songs recorded in NYC's Nola Studios and Back Pocket Studios in the mid- `90s, just before Josi went to London to record his MasterMix debut. Four of the tracks, including "Gotta Be This or That" and the haunting "April in Paris" feature an all-star quartet led by veteran pianist Tony Monte. The additional seven tracks, such as "How Are Ya Fixed For Love" and the hyper-swinging "Smack Dab In The Middle" were recently recorded at Back Pocket Studios with a 16-piece big band led by John Colianni, the bright young pianist and former musical director to Mel Torme.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Absolutely fabulous!.......2004-04-30

Rarely in life do you ever hear or see God given talent, and Christian Josi embodies that. His voice (only getting better with age since his last album) is smoother than ever. His phrasing and personality in his songs shine through with sincerity and at times, a little frivolity. You might be tempted to compare him to Hoboken, NJ's native son, but don't -- he's a crooner for the new millenium. "Fixed for Love" and "Sweet and Lovely" -- two great tracks. You won't be dissapointed in this modern crooner who drinks Budweiser, chain smokes, and wears leather pants.

5 out of 5 stars Sensational Recording.......2004-02-11

Pop Alive & Swingin' in the HiFi, mix a cocktail or two, grab your "Basie Boots" and enjoy the masterful, command performance of Christian Josi and his remarkable musicians. Whether you're in the mood to swing or mellow out, Alive & Swingin' has got you covered; it is an absolute essential for anyone who appreciates artistry at its very best.

5 out of 5 stars One of the few singles I own........2003-07-12

I first heard the original version of this track on my Fifa 2003 PS2 video game. I found it to be the best track on the game(the whole soundtrack is excellent), and I decided to buy it. I looked for the album, but in my town stuff from Denmark is hard to come by. I found this CD on Ebay. I only heard about one third of the song for awhile because video games play music during the intermissions and unless I sit there and let it play I won't hear the whole track. I didn't listen to the whole song until two months went by. I was bored and let all the songs play from beginning to end. When "Played-A-Live" kicked in the keys it really caught my attention. The drumming is excellent, but when I heard the keys I was floored. I don't know which mix I like the most, but I know it's not the radio edit, because it's so short. If you like electronic music, then you can't go wrong with this song. I even heard a local radio station use this song as background, while they talked about upcoming events in town.

5 out of 5 stars #1 Instrumental Track Out There!.......2001-07-24

Safri Duo have themselves an instrumental hit here. This song is just sooooo cool! When I first heard this, I thought it was a song from "Stomp Out Loud" from N.Y.C. until I saw the video(which is really great)for it. There is a great combination of buildups, breakdowns, and neat keyboard-efx. The bass is also ferocious, for those that like to boom. This is a great club or cruising track, just be careful listening to it while driving because this song just makes you want to dance once the beat kicks in. I highly recommend this single. I guarantee this will be the best instrumental track that you own. If my review was helpful to you, then don't forget to vote. THANKS!

5 out of 5 stars **Correction of previous review**.......2001-04-29

Just a note to my previous review, there was a change to the final tracklisting. The mixes included on the CD single are the Original and Airscape mixes, as well as the radio edit. It still deserves 5 stars strictly for the original, and after hearing the Airscape remix on the CD, it seemed better than I had previously thought.

5 out of 5 stars Watch out for this one!.......2001-04-26

Safri Duo are former classical producers who decided to take a shot at producing dance music - very smart move. What could have been an average euro-trance song is highlighted with Bongo Drums. Skeptical? Don't be because with their background they managed to blend it in nicely. It for the most part follows the euro-trance formula, but it really is the Bongo's that make this song phenomenal. With all the watered down vocal euro-trance out lately (won't name names), this definitely stands out as one of the better trance songs to be released over the past year.

On the US release you get the Original and Nick Sentience mixes which in my opinion are the best. I usually like DJ Tandu's work, but don't feel his style fits the power this song has. It also includes a radio edit, but the original mix provides maximum enjoyment. Mixes *NOT* included are the Spanish Fly and Airscape mixes. I wasn't too impressed with either of them (and I am a big Airscape fan), because they fail to accentuate the power of the Original mix.

I strongly recommend picking this up if you're into trance, its probably the best song I've heard over the past year. A euro-stormer to be reckoned with.

5 out of 5 stars timeless piece enjoyable for any ears.......2004-10-16

This song is so good it sounds good in any remix. Nothing beats it. It combines so many aspects to it, beautiful rythym just awesome. I could listen to this all day! Buy it or the safri duo remixes episode 2 and you won't regret it. Whether you like trance or not, if you love beautiful music this is for you!

4 out of 5 stars Already Forgotten?.......2003-04-29

I canýt believe you guys. You have already forgotten?

Back in early ý90s there has been an explosion with the release on The Goodmen ý Give it Up (batacuda refrescante mix ý if I remember correctly)

And then we tried to described that explicit tune with words and we couldnýt find any! Just breezing!

Anyway, the combination with the uplifting tune is very good butý

Please do not forget everythingý.

Take Care

5 out of 5 stars UNBELIEVABLE.......2003-04-02

I just got back from Miami (4/1/03) and the new sound is basically like Safri Duo. Bongos, Steel drums... make you want to get up and dance. They even hire Bongo players to walk around clubs for tips. They are the founders of this style.

Another good one is Bethazz.

5 out of 5 stars Incredibly Hot Track!.......2001-05-29

Heard this track at Circuit and then Crobar last weekend in Chicago. Saw the video at Meteor and danced to it at Rich's in Houston. Feel hard for it the first time I heard, have been playing it non-stop, a timeless track...

5 out of 5 stars BONGO TRANCE HAS A TIGHTER COMBO THAN MIKE TYSON!.......2001-04-25

Unreal! I like the opera trance song by Emma Shaplin remixed by Picotto, buy this song smothers it! The bongo drums will get the whole club jumping, even before the song slows down, to throw in the trance. This is one of the tightest songs to start off 2001. The combination is so nasty, I can't believe that people ever thought to put the two together. Great uplifting trance song that you can play several times in a row. I don't see this one getting old anytime soon. The Nick Sentience remix isn't really trance, but just hard/fast bongo drums, and it's tight too. If you like this combo, check out the Safri Duo song called, "The clubber." It's not as good, but it's still solid. I also like the Airscape mix of Played-A-Live, it's more of just a trance song, and is still tight. Semper Fi

    Album Description

A naked and transparent community of 13 songs captured alive in the studio, featuring 9 Durst originals, plus 2 from Randy Newman & another by Joni Mitchell; as well as new Japanese words applied by James to Japan's most famous melody. All are live complete takes performed purely and simply with just a single vocal and guitar--no overdubs, elegant in their UN-embellishment.

"These are essentially duets, with the voice and guitar performing balanced and complementary roles one to the other. I selected songs which pretty much hold their own without added ornamentation--simple and direct, just as in a coffeehouse or concert hall." (--James Durst)
