Editorial Reviews

Product Description
UK remastered reissue of their second Acid Jazz LP from 1993 was 'A Concept Album' on which 'Corduroy Create High Havoc' on a mock-soundtrack. Echoes of Our Man Flint mix with Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush to create a more unified sound than their debut - which also embraced lush, jazzy vocal tracks like the club hit single, 'Something In My Eye' (with shades of Sergio Mendes creeping into the mix). Includes new liner-notes from the band, rare sleeves, photo's, memorabilia & six bonus tracks, '10.28 From Shibuya' & five recorded live in Japan, 'High Havoc', 'The Frighteners', 'Something In My Eye', 'London England' & 'The Corduroy Orgasm Club'. 2001 release.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Corduroy at their best.......2003-10-30

What a fantastic CD! I love this. So mellow, so groovy and funky.

5 out of 5 stars Fluff that chest hair!!.......2003-09-27

Although this album is billed as a concept album, "a soundtrack for an imaginary film," this listener finds it difficult to envision a cohesive imaginary movie that incorporates these songs in their chronological order. Since the admittedly quaint billing of "soundtrack for an imaginary film" is essentially irrelevant anyway regardless of how good one's imagination is, this is still a funky, feel good album worth a five star rating.

If you like acid jazz, funk, and just pure groove, then you should find appreciation for this album. The bass lines presented here are intricate enough to make you think that the bassist Richard Searle is actually speaking to you. Just the fact that musicians were interested in belting out groovy melodies with a concept in mind during the day of incessant masturbatory chord strumming and whiny vocals full of empty indecipherable lyrics (which is still the case today) is enough to impress.

"High Havoc," the second of their five full-length studio albums, was released in 1993, sharing a similarity in theme of 70's cop show/game show type funk complete with plenty of funky wah guitar and horns as with their first album "Dad Man Cat" released in 1992. Corduroy's last album, "Clik!" was released in 2000, and though the group has since disbanded, there's still plenty of good reason to throw this CD on, raise the volume along with your collars, fluff that chest hair, and don those poorly color coordinated polyester clothes again.
