Album Description

Fellow Welshmen Bullet For My Valentine look set to follow in the success of Lostprophets in the UK with the release of their debut mini album. The album is produced by the legendary Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Fear Factory, Cradle Of Filth) and mixed by the equally adept Andy Sneap (Arch Enemy, Skinlab, Napalm Death). 5 tracks of heavy riffage with an extraordinary melodic edge are capped off with an enhanced portion containing elements of the band available nowhere else plus the video for 'Hand Of Blood'. Visible Noise. 2004.

I LOVE THIS BAND!!! They are very awesome! Their music is so aweome! When I feel sad I listen to them to calm me down. Bullet for My Valentine rocks!

5 out of 5 stars Wow! Do believe the hype !.......2006-03-02

Everything you've ever heard about these guys is true. Their music is extremely hard, but the melodies are uncrompehensibly beautiful. Bullet For My Valentine rock much harder, much louder, and are far less likely to be on Top Of The Pops than much of their genremates of whom nobody could charm me more than one or two songs. This, I listen to over and over again. I haven't had this feeling about an album since Rage Against the Machine's debut-album release.

5 out of 5 stars 16 minutes that are, in fact, worth the cost of an EP.......2007-04-12

You must admit, even if you dislike Norma Jean (a dislike I can understand even if I disagree with it), that chaotic metalcore has earned a little bit more popularity due to them. Now that The Chariot, a band in the same genre as Norma Jean and led by their ex-frontman Josh Scogin, has two full-lengths and this EP under their belt, you might be excused for assuming they're nothing but a cheap Norma Jean ripoff.

You'd be wrong, though. The Chariot achieves levels of intensity, originality, and technicality that Norma Jean simply couldn't compare with. Though this release might be a step down from the feedback-filled rawness of their first full-length, it is a great production in its own right.

The four re-recorded songs on the album are less than what they were on the full-length in some ways (though once you get used to it the polish on them is kind of cool), but the new songs are spectacular. "Yanni Depp" is a blast of sound, attacking the blind conformity of today's generation and making more than liberal use of dissonant minor-second intervals and chromatic riffs. "Play the Piano Like a Disease", clocking a little past 4 minutes in length, manages to achieve a full gamut of emotions as it condemns the lukewarm state of the American church today, from anger ("Make alright what you've lost") to warning ("Just because you've begun/that don't mean you won") to despair ("And all my friends be gray/they fade out"). The Chariot manages to fit their aggressive sound to aggressive lyrics without in the least compromising their faith.

Overall, this is a great EP to get introduced to The Chariot's sound. The six songs may be short (though the live video included on the enhanced CD more than doubles its length), but they're certainly worth the album's price.

4 out of 5 stars Awesome CD but very short.......2006-06-09

I enjoyed this CD as much as there first release. It was very powerful and the new songs are incredible. But I found that as soon as i got into it....the cd was over. It was too short for me. I liked the last cd because it not only had good songs but it also had length. I know this is only and EP and alot of EPs arent long or dont have many songs but i felt almost disapointed that as soon as i put the cd in it was done. THis was a good EP for an in between albums release and I cant wait for the New one they are working on.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Amazing.......2006-04-23

OK, so their first CD was ok, but I got tired of all the feedback that popped up all the time. Theres no feedback in this CD, and I love it. The remakes are awsome and song one is by far the best song on the CD, and song three has this awsome random banjo part in it. This band is simply amazing. Get this CD, though i dont really recomend the other one as much.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent EP.......2006-01-21

I was so excited when I found out the chariot was coming out with an ep. I was a little dissapointed when I found out 4 out of the 6 songs were remakes but I still bought it. Little did I know that the remakes are amazing. The production is a lot better and the vocals sound great. I do miss the feedback a little. I think they should have a few new songs with it, for it does add some effect. Get this cd immediatley!

4 out of 5 stars The Promised EP from Mr. Scogin.......2005-12-31

When I first heard about The Chariot I was ecstatic. Josh Scogin was coming back to the scene for more Christian hardcore action, and it was promised that his new band dubbed "The Chariot" would be a lot like old Norma Jean. (something that I have missed since he left that band) I missed that raw sound found on CD's like "Bless The Martyr" and "Throwing Myself" that Josh had headed. Don't get me wrong, the newer Norma Jean songs are great, but they still aren't the same. I'm sure fans everywhere felt very similiar to myslef at that time.

However, the LP brought much controversy. The quality was even lower than that of BTMAKTC. They didn't even use sound gates for the guitars, which IMO is kind of cool but for the most part, it annoyed people. There was m0re feedback than actuall music and while the concept was really neat, even I have to admit it did take away from the experience just a bit. To summarize, the fans were kind of pissed...

That's when The Unsung EP comes in...to make right what was wrong with "Everything is Alive". The band promised 4 of our favorites from the LP re-recorded (with better quality obviously) and 2 all new tracks, plus a live show.

Judging from what I've heard and seen so far, this EP delivered. The first song on the EP, "Yanni Depp" (and yeah they are all named after celebrity's with slight consonant changes) is a kicker. While it follows Chariot tradition in shortness, coming in at a mere 2 minutes and 40 seconds, it makes up for that with the raw power you'd come to expect from them. In case you didn't know, The Chariot only has one guitarist now. Harbin does a good job of compensating however. He also has a great voice which complements Josh even better on the EP I think. There's also the presence of a new, younger drummer. He seems more in touch with the scene though, and less with his set. While he has a nice style, I still don't think he can match the chaos of the old guy.

The new songs are done quite well. The level of production is about on par with what I expected, and some parts have been mixed up from the previous. EX:the banjo in the middle of Vinn Affleck. Nice...

The only downer is the new song, "Play The Piano Like A Disease". I don't really know why, but that song just didn't do it for me. It's just not all that great IMO.

All the tracks here are album versions except for the legendary "Cop Killer" which is, understandable, very heavily censored. An interesting find if you can get it for a few dollars (the "radio" version of "Cop Killer" is unintentionally hysterical) but not worth collectors prices unless you really believe that early 90's rap/metal crossover is a collectible market.

      5 out of 5 stars Legendary.......2006-07-10

This is by far the best album I have every purchased. I highly recommend this Beloved album as well as their latest - Failure On. Although this band has seperated, their music is more meaningful and powerful than any other band recording today.

      5 out of 5 stars Melodic Genius.......2005-05-05

This band wears its Christian roots on its shoulders-- and this reviewer finds that to be perfectly all right. The Running EP, which originally came out before _Failure On_, shows flashes of the atmospheric melodic hardcore they would later adapt for that album but, its core sound, reminds me of Thursday's "Full Collapse"-- not so much in sound as much as I hear it in its urgency. The album has a desperation about it. The song "Kiss it Good Bye" was a crowd favorite (Beloved is now Defunct) and combined the bands expert grasp of melody with that previously mentioned urgency, making one cringe with an unknown regret as singer/songwriter Josh Moore screams "...and now kiss it goodbye!"

_The Running_ is a great title for this album because it gives off the impression that you're headed somewhere fast... whether it be running away from your fears or running into the arms of God, I'm sure Beloved would prefer the former.

Other highlights on this album are "Going Through the Motions" and "Before There was You, There was Everything". I would suggest any fan of melodic hardcore who enjoys innovation and emotion check this disc out-- I'd say its for fans of Thursday, Dead Poetic and Underoath.

5 out of 5 stars If you ever liked Bloodshed, get this album.......2004-08-11

This album by Beloved, is has lots of hardcore influence with a little bit of emo mixed in. This album is hardcore/emo, it's alot more hardcore than it is emo. If you remember a band called Bloodshed, Beloved reminds a lot of them. The lyrics are very strongly influnced by their Chritian beliefs, which is something else I really like.

      5 out of 5 stars good tunes.......2004-03-16

Ok, for the other guy's (and anyone else who's wondering) info, this cd is older than Failure On. It's a re-release of their first release, with a new song added. Second, an EP has anywhere from 3-9 songs, so yes it is truly an EP. And well, yes it rocks just like Failure On. It is a little bit different, just tends to be the nature of earlier material, but a little bit of variety is always good. Anyway, buy it and enjoy it, cause you will.

      5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2007-02-17

The Ceremony of Opposites part of the album is very good. Where it shines though is on Rebellion. Oh, I love Rebellion. I think the best songs Samael ever made are Static Journey and Rebellion. Ceremony of Opposites is the first merging of keyboards to death metal by Samael. Rebellion continues that trend. I very highly recommend this album for any fans of death metal.

5 out of 5 stars Misanthropic black metal.......2006-11-04

If you know black metal, you know that it is not just a 'sound' but more like a concept. Samael's Ceremony of Opposites does not fit the traditional 2nd wave sound, even though they reached their peak during this time. Instead Samael has taken black metal to a whole new level, somehow making the music clear and frightfully aggressive while retaining critical elements of melody and musicianship.

The album's best song is definitely 'Black Trip' and lets you know what Samael is all about. The first half-second swells into a blistering attack of intense double kick and a crushing guitar riff, which eventually moves into a highly fluid and syncopated verse riff. After a short three minutes of pure aggression, the song ends with the ominous 'I await the coming of my death'. This is easily one of my favorite songs, and could be perhaps the most intense album opener in extreme metal. The only album-openers that compare are 'In Shadows And Dust' and 'The Ambassador Of Pain', both by Kataklysm.

I hope I have convinced you of the magnitude of this album. Unlike other black metal albums that one would be inclined to listen to privately and contemplatively, you will want to crank up this album and release all your energy to it.

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING MASTERPIECE .......2005-09-17

This is one every Black/Death/Doom/ fan must hear to know just what an amazing job has been done on this cd. Here are 10 tracks of extraordinary, dark and meaningful yet not for one second sounding pretentious. It is almost excruciating to listen to Vorph's cries of anger. This is not a band that is trying to just sound good, these guys puth forth a believable hate for christianity, and not by writing music that concentrates on demons, but rather being realistic in every way possible. When I get goosebumps while listening to music, I know I've stumbled unto something amazing. Just buy this cd, you won't regret it for a second, actually you'll be glad you did. And this release also has the mandatory follow up EP Rebellion. What a package.
The thing I really like about Vorph's vocal use is it has appeal and real emotions behind it, not like Deicide(I used to really enjoy listening to Deicide when I was younger, but it does nothing for me now, especially since I refuse to waste my time with such repetitive emotionless crap lacking everything a hard album should offer, except speed, but making the songs fast is not all there is to making an album hard).

There are no real stand out tracks here, which is good because it retains its wholeness to stand much higher than many other albums, even by Samael. I woke up this morning with the lyrics of Son Of Earth, that is how powerful this album and band are. In my review of the Samael album 'Eternal', I said "Ceremony Of Opposites was always my favourite but this album(Eternal) has grown on me much more". I'm not really sure I can stand by those words, as there will never be another album as soul piercing as Ceremony Of Opposites. This may not have the epic sound like Eternal does, but it has something that eternal lacks entirely, and that it a pure hard, rough like a thousand sandstones under your bare feet. The way Vorph spews forth the lyrics on this album, and the words he has chosen are so bold and effective. The last track on Ceremony Of Opposites(which is the title track)makes my skin crawl. But don't listen to that song before hearing the others, as it only has that effect after listening to the entire album. This album must be listened to in its entirety to be fully appreciated. Adding Rebellion onto the same disc is rather a catch 22 in my opinion. Being a really nice addition to Ceremony Of Opposites on hand, but after listening to the Ceremony Of Opposites album in its entirety I like a little bit of silence to get my breath back. It really is a breath taking experience.

Excellent artwork for an album well deserving of it. The cover is so matching to the music, its almost part of it. I couldn't imagine any other artwork being used on Ceremony. This is art at its finest, both musically and graphically.

"We're a part of everything as everything is a part of us" is the cryptic response issued by Vorph, Samael's guitarist and vocalist, when questioned about whether or not he associates Samael with the notorious trappings of black metal.

5 out of 5 stars Hymns of blasphemy and attrition.......2005-04-10

Nothing in any musical genre captures the spirit of pure, envenomed agression like Samael's earlier releases. Burzum and Beherit are the only bands that even come close. Needless to say, this release isn't for the casual melodic black CoF, Dimmu fan. Yet those who aren't afraid of a bit of noise and blasphemy will find Ceremony Of Opposites to be a masterpiece of the highest degree.

      5 out of 5 stars F*@king g00d.......2003-10-25

nothing like the usual black metal out there. if you're a dark throne fan, then don't bother. This is not "pure" black metal (as some people put it), but none the less its different, and deffinetly worth a listen to. very catchy riffs, kinda have a digital thing about them, but not too electronic...just very precice i spose.
If 'anthems to the welkin at dusk' - emperor, appealed to you then its for you, also if your into dimmu borgir, this is just what you want.
Also...listen to opeth people!!!!!!! for those of you who haven't yet listened to them...please do! your missing out...STILL LIFE!!!!!!!!!!

Thrall: Demonsweatlive is a short but oh so sweet compilation of various Danzig tunes, most of which we've seen before. We're blessed with their signature track "Mother" but it doesn't necessarily stand out compared to some of the other gems on here. "Trouble" is a fun tune with a good beat and Glenn Danzig's vocals coming through with a baritone howl that crescends and croons with a clear message.

"Violent Fire" is one of the best guitar driven songs from the band, and it's earth shaking, powerful driving force more or less drives the point home around, over and through Glenn's voice. If this song were in a book, I could only think it something from H.P. Lovecraft. I think it's maybe to dire to compare to a zombie flick movie soundtrack, which again is what makes Danzig so special in the gloom rock of the era..they staned out, alone, and away from the crowd.

Another great track out of the seven is large and wide the opening one, titled "It's coming down". Danzig doesn't get to deep with songwriting here as it's another great track that is laden with the prolific guitar virtuoso we've come to admire from the album. If you want some darker rock/metal that is different from anything you've heard before, and also has some truly great guitarwork, then say no more, and check out Thrall: Demonsweatlive. The musical experience you get from Danzigs dark lil' corner of the musicverse, is well worth the wait!

4 out of 5 stars If Your looking for trouble! .......2004-07-31

Thrall-Demonsweatlive is Danzig's classic 1993 studio and live album.
      Thrall
On the Thrall part of the album there are 2 of Danzig's heaviest and most powerful songs they have ever released, Its Coming Down and the violet fire. as well as these 2 classic songs on the Thralll section you also get an amazing cover of the classic Elvis song, Trouble(and who better to sing it than the evil Elvis himself?)

      DemonSweatLive
the Demonsweatlive section doesnt contain as many live tracks as i would have expected for my money but the live tracks here are top quality in both the sound production and of the classic songs chosen. They play one of my favourite danzig tracks, Snakes of Christ (Lucifuge 1990), the 88' classic 'Am I Demon' from their self titled debut album, the haunting 'Sistinas' off their 1992 album 'How the Gods Kill' and the all time fans favourite 'Mother', which is the best live track ever! Also if you let the cd play on after the end of Mother live (track 7) for about 10 minutes there is the original studio version of mother which is a nice extra. Thrall-Demonsweatlive is a great album for any danzig fan that wants live and new studio tracks.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best albums I own!.......2002-01-22

Glenn Danzig kicks ... in Demonsweatlive! Featuring 2 versions of "Mother" Live and Studio, both sound great! In fact, all of the songs sound great! Dont take it from me, though. Buy this album for your collection and find out for yourself!
