This is a classic. I could listen to "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" all day long. One of the best songs ever.

A TIMELESS DISCO CLASSIC... deserves to be rediscovered!.......2006-09-16

This was one of the best, most juicy latin-disco tracks EVER!!! DON'T LET ME BE MISUNDERSTOOD is a classic!!! That latin rhythm with that brass... and the guitars... ooohhhh so so sexy!!!

I bumped into this CD quite by accident. I never thought I'd ever see it re-released. My folks bought me the LP when I was a kid somewhere back in the 70's... and I rememeber I loved that song.

Years later, I found it in one of those Disco compilations CDs... but it was the short 3-minute version. And I always got the feeling the original track was much longer...

16 minutes, actually... split into two continuous tracks: "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and "Esmeralda Suite".

Musical extravaganzas like this... only in the 70's. And here it is complete! With brass, strings, everything but the kitchen sink! :P

Now... the 4th track You're My Everything is also a great ballad. One of those slow songs strictly for hot moments (It's all oh so 70's!!!).

And the 5th track is also a great disco song.

This album is such a great experience... I'm really sorry I never thought of getting it before.

60's Rock goes 70's Latin Disco.......2005-09-13

I first heard this in the 70's. There are a couple great songs: "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" & "Esmeralda Suite" which really get you going. Of course the required cover of "Gloria" is here too. The rest is so so at best, but I can listen to the first two over and over. And by the way...I HATE DISCO!

REAL Disco.......2005-09-09

Considered an 'underground' disco track, the title track 'Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood' and 'Esmarelda Suite' (which sigue together) with a total playing time of almost 16 minutes, just oozes class and sophistication. Boney M/Bee Gees it aint! This is REAL disco from the 70's. You won't be disappointed with adding this album to your collection. The other 3 tracks are so-so (and were never played in the clubs). However for the aforementioned tracks, the album is worth every cent. They don't make 'em like this anymore! Buy it now.

One more under Nina's spell.......2005-07-28

My daughter introduced this album to me and I have not stopped listening since that day. There is no better proof of Nina's power of expression and feeling than her version of "Ne me quitte pas". While her French pronunciation may not be "perfect" to the ears of some French-speaking listeners, it is probably one of the most profound, touching and powerful version of this classic, including the version of the composer.
All of the tracks are spellbinding.
I cannot do without this CD and have shared it with many of my friends.

I bought this CD a few years ago from a used CD store and became obsessed. I have several of her albums, but the mix on this disc is incomparable. I still get so moved by her versions of 'Trouble in Mind' 'Don't Explain' and 'Ne me quitte pas'- not to mention Little Girl Blue. This is a solid album, it holds the mood and your attention for the duration. I lost it last month while travelling and have been missing it something fierce.
My friends, who were initially turned off when I was listening to some of her rawer recordings, were converted after hearing this.

Santa Esmeralda was a 70's Spanish-themed studio group. Santa Esmeralda first album (1977) was a reworking of the Animals classic "Don't Let Me be misunderstood." The album was an international success with Leroy Gomez vocals.

At this point Gomez left to continue his solo career, having one release on Casablanca (1978). The medley of "Gypsy Woman/Spanish Harlem" made it to the club top 40 briefly. In 1979 Gomez released "I got it bad" which was a huge success in Latin America with GET UP AND BOOGIE.

Santa Esmeralda continued recording with Jimmy Goings. The second album, 1978's "The House of the Rising Sun," was another reworking of the Animals classic. Sevilla Nights" was included on the soundtrack to "Thank God it's Friday." Beauty" was released in late 1978. In 1979 the group made a stunning comeback with Jimmy Going "Another Cha-Cha." By 1980's "Don't Be Shy Tonight" was released and had a top ten club hit with "C'est Magnifique"

The last two albums "The Green Talisman" and "Hush" (only for real fans) with not top hits.

All Santa Esmeralda's albums are available on CD at Amazon But there's no Leroy Gomez CDs.
