5 out of 5 stars Speedcore at its Finest.......2004-11-03

I haven't been into the speedcore scene for too long, but I do know that this is by far one of the best speecore albums out there. The whole cd manages to sound different each track, but it still maintains the adrenaline-pumping hardcore sound that makes speedcore just that. If you are a fan of speedcore, or gabber in general, definitly pick this album up.

5 out of 5 stars I am so happy this is on CD.......2004-10-10

I have it on vinyl but this is some of the all time best hardcore songs. I had the pleasure of listening to D.O.A. and Nickey Fingers in 94. I was a nobody and Nickey taught me gave me records before they came out. He also dj my outlaw party. My point is the this music can be replaced and niether can he. I really looked up to him and he is in my prayers. Thanks Nikie.

4 out of 5 stars "Fresh, crispy new groove!".......2003-10-06

"But gee, we already have all three IFS compilations; if we already have DOA on those CDs, why buy this disc as well?" If you have to ask this question, then you just don't get it. This disc is the one and only CD release from Disciples of Annihilation, the trio of Italian-American kids from New York City who pretty much INVENTED speedcore techno.

Of course, anyone with a TR-909 or similar drum machine can crank out techno with speeds exceeding 230 BPM; the trick is to make it halfway interesting. Here, DOA succeeds admirably. The disc starts of with the full version of TOTAL ANNIHILATION (shortened version available on IFS3) and then segues into a host of various gabber and speedcore tracks that make up the bulk of DOA's work. Aside from a couple of less-than-perfect excerpts, this stuff grabs hold of you and pushes your adrenaline to 11. You have been warned.

Some folks may be turned off by the profanity and sexual references on this disc, but NEW YORK CITY SPEEDCORE was never meant to be family listening. This is the most complete record of one of American hardcore techno's seminal bands, and needs to be evaluated at least partially from that viewpoint. After all, even if you now consider Euromasters old hat, just remember the shock you probably experienced the first time you heard them.

All in all, a great CD from Sal Mineo, Carl Carinci, and the dearly missed Nick Marchetti. If Heaven has a hardcore dance club, I hope to find Nicky Fingers working the decks there. Now go home and get your friggin' shinebox, newbie!

5 out of 5 stars MY SO N.......2003-02-21

I am not the biggest fan of Rave/Techno music, however my son Nicky Fingers (Marchetti) help to make this happen, unfortunately as you all know he died in March of 1997.

It is overwhelming to know that he is still and alwayd will be around because of his MUSIC.

Thank you for keeping my son's spirit alive.

5 out of 5 stars One of the BEST hardcore/gabber albums around........2000-01-12

Disciples of Annihilation were one of, if not THE hardest group around. Unfortunately one of their members (Nicky Fingers) died. The music is insane, fast and has some very humourous samples. Great bass drums, guitar riffs and samples from some of the greatest movies. A definite MUST BUY for someone into this sort of music.

1 out of 5 stars How could they screw this up so bad?!!.......2006-03-28

Great production double-CD with good distribution... this release had all the potential in the world and even Loftgroover in charge of things, it should've been spectacular.

BUT IT SUCKS!!! This is the sorriest release that could be called hardcore in the history of the world!

I mean it's got a few cool tracks, sure, but nothing I MEAN NOTHING hard, and not a drop of speedcore on the whole release!!

But there's some good news, too: you can go to PureAcid.com and order awesome mixtapes that are everything this release should have been, for MUCH less money. Go. Now. You've already wasted too much of your life on this suck-eggs Loftgroover flop.

5 out of 5 stars Not for the average techno fan.......2002-07-30

This CD is excellent. Aparently, some guy wrote a review on this CD thinking that it would be some goofy ... death metal CD. Guess what, It's not. This is straight forward Hardcore Gabber Speedcore. If you are expecting techno or death metal, look elsewhere. This CD is a masterpiece and bound to be a classic.

2 out of 5 stars Too much time spent watchin' movies.......2002-06-19

I read the reviews and heard about the whole scene and speed of the music and i was really looking foward too this album. This was the first speedcore/ gabba album i'd ever heard and i was ... exicted.

Let me tell you something.... There is a constant, pretty boring and formulaic beat which is fast but not that fast which is evident in every single song. This is an instant turnoff, i mean one or two songs containing that beat is cool but every ... song!

There are few variations and minute snippets of techno, gitaurs and drums. This album however does have potential, you just have to add some mental drumming, gitaurs and death metal vocals and alot of bass.

Reviewers say its hardcore but i think Slayer is much more intense (and i think Slayer is semi-hardcore). D.O.A however does include some great samples from top films like Goodfella's.

PS. Is this album representitive of the scene?

5 out of 5 stars DOA Defines Hardcore.......2001-04-25

Disciples of Annihilation's album "New York City Speedcore" is truly a monumental CD. Audio horror of this caliber is not easy, but great, to come by. The only thing I disliked about this CD is... wait, there's nothing I dislike =P If you don't already have this disc, BUY IT. But you can find it cheaper than twenty-eight bucks, trust me. Try ordering from Earache themselves- they sell it for nine.

I give many of the tracks a 3 for originality because many of them sound like tracks DJ Tron was spinning in '98. But I give it a five for speed and evil. Ballanceing out to a 4 star rateing. Tracks 19-21 on CD 2 are extream tracks that kick ass for lack of a less cheesey term. LOL

True Noise and Speedcore fans will love it.
