It's the most complete single-disc collection of EWF chart rockers, and Greatest Hits' splendid remastering makes one of the major exponents of '70s funk positivity sound sparkling. From the driving "Shining Star" to the syncopated mastery of "September" and "Boogie Wonderland" to the slow-jam heaven of "After the Love Is Gone," this is a reminder of what made the group so special. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

Yes, this is a great intro, but don't stop here. Why? All in All, Spirit, Gratitude, That's the Way of the World and Open Our Eyes are all good picks, that's why. But this is the compilation the band deserved.

Pure Pop Culture..Cashing In On "Disco" Revival Of The 90s.......2007-04-16
Where's Cerrone "Supernature", Giorgio "From Here To Eternity", Alec R. Costandinos "Romeo & Juliet", Machine "There But For The Grace Of God Go I", Jumbo "Turn On To Love" and could go on and on (probably 90% of the folks reading this right now dont even know what those tunes I mentioned are).
Those tunes I mentioned are basic common club play disco from back when...im not even goin mega deep here, just mentioning a few of the REAL disco bilboard hit basics here. Sure, to promote the pop hits, most of these tunes on this comp were played in the corse of the night in 12" remixed format...but they were not the main attraction as pop culture believes!
If anyone is truely interested to hear what disco was really about and wants to get a small taste of the hard true disco sounds, if you can find it (since its out of print), look up the CD comps The Best Disco In Town vol 3 (whole CD) and The Best Disco In Town vol.2 (75% of this CD is true disco) put out by the now gone Hot Productions...there you'll get a small taste of the REAL disco hits from the 1976 - 1980 era which kept everyone dancin and havin fun (with a few early 80s ones thrown in). Forget this pop culture cash in on what the radio mainstream called disco (and if this is what disco really was, I wouldnt blame em one bit for the whole disco sucks movement...but this IS NOT REAL DISCO!).
Like I said, I DO give em credit for putting a few tracks on here that actually were REAL club hits and not on every pop comp (Gibson Brothers "Cuba" is the main one that stands out). But don't take my word for it, seek out the 2 comps I mentioned above and hear for yourself!

"Totally Gnarly" or "Gag me with a Spoon"?.......2007-05-31
Fond nostalgia aside, the whole 'retro' thing is forcing the 80's upon us once again and you might as well admit that you were one of the characters from The Breakfast Club! (Mmmmmm....Ally Sheedy.)
Dropping these discs into my player and hitting shuffle just makes it all come flooding back!
But to tell a shameful truth? I really HAD to buy this set because of "Pac-Man Fever" by Buckner and Garcia and "Sweetheart" by Franke & the Knockouts. I've never seen these songs anywhere else!
I'm not sure I even looked at the other songs before my credit card was being swiped by the good folks at Amazon!!
So, yeah, again, I bought on impulse but I damn sure don't regret it!! In fact, I'd suggest we embrace the "ME, ME, ME" decade just once more and "BUY, BUY, BUY" this set.
If you went to high school in the 80's like I did, simply put, this will bring back some great memories.
(Unless, of course, your high school years sucked. To which, I say, "That's too bad. I'm sorry for you.")
Either way, just admit that the 80's were a great time for music and pastel suits and thin leather ties.........(chicks dig the thin tie still, right? Right? Anybody? Can I get a witness?)
Where's Don Johnson when I need him?
Oh, here he is....Disc 6, Song 19!

this set. The 80s were my high school and college years and I was
certainly guilty of listening to the radio .... This set is awesome and
is really made indispensable with the booklet. My only gripe lies with
the artists that were huge in the 80s, but evidently could not be licensed
for this set....Notably U2, REM, Hoodoo Gurus, Wall of Voodoo, etc

Amazon.com essential recording
For those music buyers who have enjoyed Barry White's music since the early 1970s but may not be devoted enough for the three-CD box set Just for You, this 20-track compilation brings together all of White's major chart hits between 1973 and 1979, along with a couple of entries from his Love Unlimited Orchestra. White's distinctive vocal style--a deep, resonant baritone-bass that oozes sex appeal--was the icing on the cake for those hits; superlative string arrangements (courtesy of the late Gene Page) encased White in a lush setting, while White's hand-picked rhythm section (which included many of Los Angeles's top session players) created a groove that was hard to beat. The combination was lethal: hits like "Never, Never Gonna Give You Up," "Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe," and "You're My First, My Last, My Everything" made White a chart staple and an early king of disco; his skill as a vocal interpreter was fully evident on a 1979 reading of Billy Joel's "Just the Way You Are," another standout on this collection. On the evidence of that track alone, it's hard to believe that, according to legend, White never planned to be a recording artist in his own right and would have been happy to remain in the background as producer and songwriter! --David NathanAmazon.com
The most hot-buttered of all soul singers, Barry White is an artist whose CDs come with a purpose. To say what that purpose is, is not for a family Web site--but it involves that thing that Mommy and Daddy do at night with the bedroom door closed. All-Time Greatest Hits collects the essential White and Love Unlimited Orchestra tracks onto a packed CD. Are 20 cuts too much? Not with Viagra. That's a kind of medicine that grownups take. --Gavin McNettCustomer Reviews:

In the path of enormously popular collections of number one singles by Elvis and the Beatles comes this crammed (seconds shy of the 80-minute mark) disc from another pop-culture icon, Diana Ross & the Supremes. 14 Diana Ross/Supremes tracks appear in some of their most vivid sound ever, while the post-Ross Supremes get their due with "Stoned Love." Ross' Hollywood years make for the weakest music here ("Touch Me in the Morning," "Endless Love"), but disco smashes "Upside Down," "I'm Coming Out," and "The Boss" prove as smart, canny, and enduring as Supremes 45s like "You Keep Me Hangin' On" and "Reflections." The contemporary, yet already dated, remix of "Hangin' On" at album's end suggests, in fact, that Ross might make one more dance-floor comeback if paired with the right behind-the-scenes team. Basement Jaxx, anyone? --Rickey WrightAlbum Description

If you like the Supremes and Diana this is one of the best variety of songs available.

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST!!!.......2007-05-06
One advertising: some versions of this cd have the inclussion of Diana's song CHAIN REACTION (the latin-american versions like the Mexican and Argentina ones have this song), but the US version doesn't iclude this great song, unfortunately.
Fresh Versions Of Old Favorites.......2007-04-14
Hardcore Supremes fans will listen to these tracks and immediately feel a shock of revelation that they are not the same old versions that have been on compilation after compilation. Most of these tracks are newly remixed for stronger bass, more stereo separation, and now have extended endings. "Stop In The Name Of Love" for example, goes on beyond it's original fade, so that you can hear the backing track fade out while the girls keep singing until they finish cold, with one final "Stop!". "You Keep Me Hangin' On " has a longer second chorus, as well as a previously unheard cold ending. And the new mix of "Reflections" is a real eye opener, with softer psychedelic sound effects synched up from the originally released version, and an ending that continues on WAY beyond the original fade out point, with an additional coda and cold ending ( not to mention an originally deleted backing vocal in the bridge of the song )! Not every track is that radically different, but most do go on slightly longer than before, and the remastering and remixing makes them sound better than ever.
Even if you own any of the previous Supremes compilations, this collection is a must, for the alternate versions of these songs, and the much improved sound quality.

Amazon.com essential recording
Given the pace of Michael Jackson's post-Thriller release schedule, it's striking that Off the Wall appeared between two albums with his brothers, Destiny (1978) and Triumph (1980), on which the twentysomething phenomenon was also fully engaged. Aided by richly detailed but not overdone production, Off the Wall redefined how much Michael might do.Tracks like "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough," "Rock with You," the title cut (all Top 10 singles), and "Burn this Disco Out" not only consolidated his dance-floor power, but showed just how soulful and varied his vocals could get on uptempo material. Artistic role models like James Brown and Jackie Wilson echo through the mixes, but these were Jackson's leaps forward. The addition of pure pop confection--Paul McCartney's "Girlfriend," Stevie Wonder's "I Can't Help It"--further fleshed out the star's young-adult persona and helped make Off the Wall among the most fondly remembered of all his solo work. This special edition features two magic home demos and entertaining, insightful interviews of producer Quincy Jones and "Rock with You" composer Rod Temperton. --Rickey Wright

Bandstand. I miss that show. All those shows are gone. Can we please
get that on DVD! That song has a message of getting control of your life.
It was a celebration song of victory. She demonstrated that on American
Bandstand. The song "Muscles" was a favorite as well, I had a boyfriend
in H.S. and we have a talent show where all the football players have their shirts off and flexed there muscles off that song. "Just Good Memories!"
