The word delirious is perhaps tossed around too casually in '90s dance music, but Sacrebleu earns the description. Dimitri patches together everything from lounge sounds to techno, with plenty of ear-tickling verbal samples to keep things hopping. Too much of a good thing at 70-plus minutes, perhaps, but you'll even enjoy the hangover. --Rickey WrightAlbum Details

Dimitri has been an arhetype in flowing electronic funk for a while. And this being one of his later albums is no exception. He incorporates smooth funk with olde-time parisian groove into such magical coordination you'd think you were in the Bohemian city itself in 1966. Almost all tracks include "mixes" from either French or American cinema (Une Very Stylish Fille being a perfect example from Audrey Hepburn's 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'). But with that being said, there are some tracks that appear rather redundant in their mixing, and can get abrasive at times. But with the majority being a smooth Jet-Set I'm-Frank-Sinatra-and-I-can-do-what-I-want theme, this album will be an original addition to the mod electro-philes out there looking for something more bohemian and less blase (that's a french word right?).

Super chic "esquisses" of the Parisian life where mystery adventure and romance await around the corner with the Eiffel Tower looming in the distance. The CD is a bit like listening to a very diverse soundtrack of a fantasy about Paris or the French in general. A virtual "Bou-fait" of hip tunes, trippy disco, spicy congas, and deep house making for a very smooth mix, with the sort of sophistication we have come to expect of the French and especially Monsieur "Dim" himself.
Unlike his other works like Mixmag's De-Luxe House Of Funk and his newly released "A Night At The Playboy Mansion" which are both mix albums Sacre Francais' 2 CD set is a cohesive set of songs that flow seamlessly by hilariously cool samples from French Television and/or Films, think Jacques Tati's Mon Oncle with a house soundtrack. On "Nothing To Lose" we get ingenue Atlantique ( Claudette Longet?) from Peter Seller's film "The Party". The CD is loungey and smoky for sure, but it is upbeat funny and clever too! Sampling Audrey Hepburn from "Breakfast At Tiffany's" on Une Stylish Fille, also used by Volvo for a commercial.
Dimitri is the supreme mixologist (...)This inventive and original work will stay in your CD player for months and will have your friends smiling and asking "what is this"? 0END

Fantastic Modern Lounge At Its Best !!!!!.......2003-06-23
Before you even listen to the CD, the cover art gives you an idea of what to expect, with its 1950's lounge font and spoof on RCA's then-famous "Living Stereo" logo (here it is Yellow Stereo).
The songs will sweep you backwards in time to a swank, dimly lit, smoke-filled Parisian lounge circa-1960, with just enough modern electronics to bring you home again. There are plenty of great samples, slow electronic beats (picture an old Moog perhaps), french dialogue, and organs to satisfy those young hipsters hanging out in New York City's more exclusive jazz clubs. Yet, the album is smooth enough to please those retro-chic fans still spining original vinyl copies of "Martinis With Mancini."
Volvo fans will rejoice with the single "Une Very Stylish Fille," as heard in the S80 ads a few years ago. The track includes a great sample of Audrey Hepburn asking the question "How do I look?" and sounds like something right out of her movie "Breakfast At Tiffany's." The other single "Sacre Francais" has a simillar vibe.
The single "Dirty Larry" is my favorite by far, as it evokes the 60's spy music produced by John Barry, Edwin Astley, and Lalo Schifrin. Vintage driving bass, harpsichord, and a chilling Moog-sounding lead synthline. Just picture the bad guys in an old black Peugeot sedan chasing the hero spy in his green MGB down the winding streets of Paris, and you've got this song.
"Monsieur Dimitri Joue Du Stylophone" is a perfect short for those who love vintage keyboards. "Nothing To Lose" sounds like Herp Albert working with that other great french band, AIR. There are two versions, one with breathy female vocals and a bonus instrumental.
"Reveries" is a mild drum and bass (picture an Aphex Twin remix of something by AIR or The Art Of Noise perhaps). "Un Woman's Paradis" is a dance number that sounds like some of Martin Denny's late 70's works. Very upbeat with organs and piano, but little percussion.
Another great standout track is "Un World Mysteriouse" with a haunting, otherworldly sound simillar to Mancini's "Experiment In Terror."
The entire album is a delight to listen to and the perfect chill-album for your next cocktail party. This album is best listened to with the lights down low, some candles, and a cocktail in hand. A must for both modern and vintage lounge / exotica fans alike. If you like AIR and Etienne DeCrecy or Les Baxter and Martin Denny, give this CD a listen.
