Album Description

After the popular "Devolution" album release, De/Vision hit the road in Germany, performing many sold-out shows. The first disc in the double-disc set features some of the fans' favorites songs performed live during that tour. The second CD features new remixes of the popular song "I Regret" including great dance versions by VNV Nation and Colony 5, as well as new versions of other popular De/Vision songs.

Since a long time ago, I was waiting for a live CD from this band; this double CD is such a great compilation. Probably it's better to get some previous albums of them, why?...to feel the way wich they sing their most famous songs in a live concert. In some cases they sound like rock sounds but it's ok, the second CD are remixes from the songs of CD 1. In my oppinion, this is the oportunity to get a good buying option for german pop/electronic music addicts.

can you think of any other male vocalist with such a passionate voice? no. De/Vision has got to be one of the best bands around. and this live cd proves it. they sound awesome. granted there are a lot of classic de/vision songs that are missing here, but what is here sounds excellent. the song "sadness" which i didnt care for as a studio cut sounds great live. but the remixes for "i regret" i dont really care for. how do you remix a song thats perfect in its original form. cant wait for the dvd!!!

I own just about everything De/Vision has recorded and this is my favorite. Now CD has touched me like this one.

This is there worst album. However I still love it. Thats how much I like these guys. There is some excellent songs on it.

Synth-Pop At Its Best.......2005-06-22

I was browsing through new music to listen to, and I came across De/Vision, who were described as a German semi-Depeche Mode. Being a huge Depeche Mode fan myself, I decided to give them a try and got Devolution. And I must say, I'm far from disappointed.

Some of my favourite tracks on this album are "When The World Disappeared", "You Say" and "The Day's Not Done" as opposed to some of the dancier club tracks like "Saddness" and "Drifting Sideways". Don't get me wrong - they're okay, but I suspect De/Vision are just much better sticking to the bittersweet songs that they do with such mastery.

I wouldn't quite describe De/Vision as another Depeche Mode wannabe. I must admit, Steffen does sound a little bit like a nasal version of Dave Gahan, but that's where the similarity ends.

If you want great synth-pop, look no further and get Devolution. I can assure you that you'll be blown away. This is an album that I'll definitely be listening to for a long time to come.

[Amendment to my first review].......2004-06-09

Well, after many many many listenings, this album has completely grown on me. In fact, it just might be my favorite De/Vision album. I still don't love "Sadness" or "Far Too Deep," but I don't strongly dislike either of them either. The other songs are so good, they make up for the weaker tracks. "You Say..." has become an absolute favorite of mine. I can't get enough of it. Over time, I've fallen in love with "A New Dawn," too, which didn't initially do much for me. "Drifting Sideways," "Miss You More," "Digital Dream," and "The Day's Not Done" are still as wonderful as they always were. If you are into great synthpop with pop/rock sensibilities, grab this album. Then grab the upcoming new album, "Six Feet Underground." The samples sound nothing short of amazing.

The new Camouflage..........2004-03-07

The voice, the production and all evokes Camouflage, but dare I say the execution is slightly better than your average Camouflage album. A good find, and I do like the song "Drifting Sideways", Cher-like vocoder effect and all. This album is a little boring, though.

On bad comments you'll hear on this album - the worst sin of the goth-darkwave movement and all those people dressed in black is that you all are too conservative! Wake up and allow the genre to change with the seasons. Not everything must be as depressing a Bauhaus, Siouxie and Joy Division.

disappointment.......2002-11-06

I wasn't extremely interested in hearing dance remixes of Troy, which I consider to be one of the best songs ever created (in its original form). Mostly I bought the CD for the chance to watch the video. I had once seen a clip for the video back in the 1980s and always wanted to see it in its entirety. Unfortunately the video doesn't play on a standard DVD player. The remixes of the song are mediocre. However it does still have the original on there which is worth two stars on its own.

The only reason I give this one star is because the original recording is absolutely beautiful and Sinead O'Connor is one of the most original and powerful performers of our age.

Unfortunately, this song doesn't translate well as a dance track. I'm a DJ and I'm rather skeptical of mashups and reworkings of older tracks. Most of the time, these come out as bootlegs or white labels and don't go very far. Rarely, a really brilliant white label mashup or remix comes along... but I must stress that the standout occurrances are few & far between.

If any good comes out of it, at least Sinead has a chance of reaching #1 on the dance charts. But I don't get it.

High-Powered, Stunning remixes of a classic.......2002-08-13

Easily some of the best remixes I have ever heard; it's no wonder that both the Push and Creamer & K mixes of Troy became so huge in Europe this year. The Push mix is the more "direct impact" mix with a bass-line hook and pulsing, deep-trance ambience that will pack a dancefloor in two-seconds flat. MASSIVE remix! Sinead's vocals are sampled with integrity and to very haunting effect. The Creamer & K mix is very progressive and tribal, but no less effective in its own way. A truly stunning addition to any Sinead fan's collection or to anyone who's having a party and who wants to kick it into the higest gear you could imagine. Just play the Push remix and watch people throb.
