marvelous countertenor voice.......2006-12-10

many people say andreas scholl has a non-expressice voice for opera and that the beauty of his voice gets him by. well after listening to the choice of his best i argue that. his "dove sei" is beautiful as well as his "ombra mai fu," a peace he made his own.over all a very nice selection. a must for all andreas scholl fans and those who enjoy a musical diversity.

universal smooth tunes.......2001-09-02

Chuck Loeb has been around awhile and has produced many albums, whether it be his own, or adding his touch and assistance to fellow musician`s works. and he keeps turning them out, so someone out there is buying it. What impresses me is his song writing, especially on this cd. Oh did I mention his wife`s singing ? If she ever makes her own cd......well..I`m lost for words

There are lots of Chuck Loeb records out there and each deserves a good listen. In the case of this record repeated listening is highly suggested. While I like a lot of stuff Chuck does, I think this is one of his finest outings. I don't know what was in the air when he made this record, but whatever it was, it was special. The sun also rises...

Whatever your persuasions -- or ardent beliefs -- in modern jazz (or jazz fusion, or pop jazz, or straight-ahead, and so forth), when you hear Chuck Loeb performing "Water Runs Dry" on this recording, I hope you begin to realize that the one thing that matters is that one moment -- hearing a stunningly beautiful piece of music. Where does that soul come from? Can we deny it, much less belittle it? Here is where we begin to believe this is an artist worth listening to. Here is where we begin to believe that Chuck Loeb is not ignorant when he speaks of "The Moon, The Stars, And The Setting Sun." May we all be so lucky.

Smooth jazz ain't jazz........2000-04-20

If you're thinking about buying this album because you heard him play with Ornette Coleman, DON'T --> I truly cannot understand how anyone who played with a true musical genious at the calliber of Coleman (and sounded pretty damn good, by the way) could sink so low. I bought this album (not from Amazon.com or I'd have heard the clips) and I was shocked. Despite the despite the stupid cover, I expected good music. If you want to hear a great JAZZ guitar player, check out Pat Metheney, 'cause if you think this is jazz, or even music (muzak more aptly) than maybe you'd better take another shot of morphine.

Totally Polished.......2000-03-25

As with his other solo efforts, Chuck Loeb presents totally refined, well-arranged and outstandingly performed smooth jazz. He's a bit of a chameleon on this CD, with one very Pat Metheny-esque number and one very Fourplay-like number. His outstanding skills as a producer are as much in evidence as his formidable guitar playing.

Going for Baroque.......2003-01-09

Here lies master collection from ten years and fifty discs of examples from baroque era performed by choirs, soloists and instrumentalists.

Conducted by energetic Robert King and his King's Consort, this is just superb!

It will introduce one to baroque or add to one's enjoyment. Especially enjoyed Purcell's "Hear my prayer, O Lord" and Gabrieli's "Salvator noster."

Niels Gade belongs to the generation of composers before Grieg, and his religious output is much more convincing than that of his sometime protégé, displaying hardly any of that saccharine piety common in early 19th-century choral works. Indeed, as a body (and because Gade often writes for eight parts), it stands comparison with Schumann's glorious Doppelchörige Gesänge. Grieg's relationship with the church, however, was much more strained, and this explains the relatively small number of religious choral works in his output, and also the tone of professional beauty rather than devotion that they display. Having said that, though, they do span the composer's entire career and show his artistic development in miniature, from the academic fugue he wrote as a student to the highly individualized use of folk tunes in his final composition, Four Hymns. The beauty and accuracy of the Danish National Radio Choir's singing are almost frightening, until the silken persuasiveness of the sound seduces you into forgetting it. --Warwick Thompson

My favorite Chemical Brothers song.......2004-11-30

I remember there was a time when MTV actually played music videos and music videos that I actually enjoyed. That was how I discovered The Chemical Brothers. I first saw the music video for "Setting Sun" and was impressed by the fact that: A) this was a good song/video and B) MTV was playing actual techno music. "Setting Sun" is and always will be my favorite song by The Chemical Brothers. I just love that searing psychedelic beat that opens up the song. I also love the song because I got the chance to hear Oasis' Noel Gallagher sing for once, unlike his obnoxious brother Liam. I could have lived without the instrumental version of "Setting Sun". I thought it didn't sound good without Noel Gallagher's vocals and the buzz tracks didn't really do anything for me. Personally I would have liked to heard remixed versions of "Setting Sun" or simply a bonus track or two instead.

Even though it was all too similar, it was good anyways.......2004-09-09

I was surprised that the full length version wasn't the same with that ENDING you hear on 'Dig Your Own Hole' It skips that little part where the pre-ending trails off into this little "breakdown" and then it has the quick ending (If I make sense). The [EDIT] to me wasn't anything special...just a short and sweet version of the hit song with Noel Gallagher from Oasis. I would consider 'Buzz Tracks' to be one of their few UNIQUE tracks that could have somewhat great potential if it were ever to be released on a full-length album of theirs. I thought the Instrumental version of the songs was all worth it, cause it gives me an opportunity to hear everything I could not hear when the vocals were ringing nice and lour through my ears. Overall, the Setting Sun CD-Single is definitely worth it and is obviouslly another MUST for the Chem. Bros. fans out there...It's also a good one for all you new guys out there, looking for some good acid house techno to listen to.

Awesome.......2003-02-19

This EP is awesome. I got it yesterday and I loved it. It only has 4 songs and is only 20 minutes long but it still kicks...! Setting Sun (Full Length Version) is awesome.
Setting Sun (Radio Edit) is kind of short but I still like it.
Buzz Tracks is the best song on this EP as the "Dig Your Own Hole" Setting Sun version isn't on here. I love all the synthesizers mixed with the drums and everything else.
Setting Sun (Instrumental) is a beautiful song. It shows what the song is like from Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons's point of view.

Amazing..Outrageous..Insane! SPEECHLESS! I love human drama..like..obsessivly! They are awsome! I praise them, and this album is one of my favorites from them! Check it out.

The band that should've been world famous...........2002-03-04

...no other "gothic" rock band is more deserving of praise. Johnny (the man behind Human Drama)is the real thing: you can see it, feel it and absorb it at any live Human Drama performance. Every single song is heartfelt and real. If you can envision the emotion that this band can bring to the stage, then understand that their studio efforts are well worth the purchase price. You are investing in a "cult" band. There are those that know that there is something very special about Human Drama. Join that group and be forever touched by intelligent lyrics, wonderful classic instruments, and a brilliant man bearing his soul.

Another emotional album.......2002-02-09

I guess Im not a true fan because I loved this album? Anyway, Ive been listening to Human Drama for a few years now and still havnt found any of there work to be sour or wish washy. This cd is great and really shows how the band and Johnny Indovina have matured since The World Inside. I can understand how some might see this album to be differant from previous works, and Im glad. Why should a band repeat themselves again and again? and that is why Human Drama is so great. They dont.

A Little Weak For A Human Drama Album.......1999-05-31

I am a long standing H.D. fan and couldn't wait to get my hands on Solemn Sun Setting! After listening to it many times since receiving it (thru Amazon of course) I hate to admit only a few songs touched my soul as so many other H.D. songs have done before. It is a good CD, especially if you admire the truth telling of Human Drama, but alas, it is not one of their best. I highly recommend Songs of Betrayal and thier live CD 14,384 Days Later. Unfortunately, Solemn Sun Setting leaves much to be desired for a true fan.
