1 out of 5 stars Very disappointing, considering what it could have been.......2007-04-20

Take a look at the running times:

Disc 1: 60 minutes
Disc 2: 50 minutes
Disc 3: 61 minutes
Disc 4: 58 minutes

What gives Silva? There is *MUCH* more John Williams in the silva screen back catalogue by the Prague Philharmonic than what is in this set, and thats not including their entire discs devoted to Star Wars Films, Indiana Jones Trilogy etc. Why isn't Hook "When You're Alone" included on Disc 2? There's room. Why isn't 1941 on Disc 1? There's room. Why isn't Earthquake on Disc 3? There's room. Why isn't Far and Away on disc 4? There's room. Where's the other ten minutes of the Rare Breed suite on disc 3? Why isn't Midway on disc 1? Where are the Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel and Lots In Space tv themes? Etc. Etc. Etc.

C'mon Silva, most of these 4 disc mega boxes released in the past few years are packed to the brim, but not this one, and with new recordings made after this was released (the terminal, munich, geisha, war of the worlds, star wars ep 3, harry potter 3), it only makes sense for a "re-do" in the next couple of years.

Further, with Silva releasing the 100 Greatest Film Themes on six discs in a couple of months, it's only a matter of time before we see the ultimate six disc john williams set.

This isn't a BAD set to own, but it could have been much better and when compared to the Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry sets in this same series, this one is a major letdown.

5 out of 5 stars Always a pleaser.......2007-03-31

I listen to music all day with patients in my dental chair. This one is a winner with everyone. Patients always comment on how they recognize a song. Who doesn't love John Williams? His music transcends time.

5 out of 5 stars JOHN WILLIAMS 40 Years of Film Music.......2007-01-10

This 4 cd pack is an anthology of all John Williams works. From his earlier works "The Poseidon Adventure" and "Jaws" right through "Indiana Jones" and the most recent"Star Wars" prequel movies are included. Williams work in thriller and horror are also included. If you are into soundtracks and love movie music this is an essential buy. The quality of the music is excellent. With ten or more tracks on each cd it's well worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars Movie Music Magic & Memorabilia.......2006-12-13

This four CD set expands on the previously released John Williams Greatest Hits. It's a grand collection of nearly four hours of famous music scores from over forty years. There are many songs never before available in any collection. The short liner notes tell a great tale of musical movie history and include all of his numerous award nominations and wins. Each song (oddly enough) mentions the actors and the director, so fond are John Williams's memories of his work with these people. All of the conductors are mentioned along with specific orchestras, choirs, arrangement and orchestration specialists and even the publishers (contractual, I am sure). The only things missing are his early television scores, such as those for "Lost In Space" (by Johnny Williams back then). But with four discs, one has nothing to complain about and everything to enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars John Williams: 40 Years of Outstanding Film Music.......2006-11-28

I have been a huge fan of John Williams and I have known about his music for years. However, I never actually bought any of his music on CD. I was rather skeptical about purchasing this CD but when it arrived I knew I had made the right choice. The sound quality of the compilation is outstanding. The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra do a great job under the direction of Paul Bateman. The original London Symphony Orchestra CDs of John Williams' Star Wars Trilogy CDs are marginally better but this is still a great CD compilation. If you love ET, Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter, you will love this compilation soundtrack. Buy it, listen to these CDs in the car and enjoy every minute of the collection!!!

Album Details

Break Out Your Dancing Shoes, the 80's Are Back Again with a Vengeance! the First New Full Length Album of the New Millenium and the First in Over a Decade from What is Now the Denis Lepage Show is Now Available! the Trademark Hinrg Sound of the Act is in Fine Form and Hasn't Lost It's Luster. Lepage Still Anchors the Vocal Chores but a Host of Guest Vocalists and Rap Fillers Assist as Well. But It's Lepage's Trademark Synth Masterpieces that Shine Here as He Has Not Lost Any of his Edge in the Intervening Years Since the Last Lime Album. It's to Be Expected that Things Are a Bit More Varied, Some Tracks Show Much More Latin and Hip Hop Influences ("Frances and Francine") Or the Deep Funk of "Evil Eyes". But the Energy's the Thing and Lime is Without Doubt the Epitome of Hinrg Music!

5 out of 5 stars Re-Limed...........2003-09-15

I would not say it's the best Lime CD ever but it's a great CD to own! Some people like to live in the past and want artists to keep making the same sone over & over again... Well I for one am gald they are back with some stuff that sounds of the Lime from day's gone by and some great NEW sounds! If you want the Lime of yester-year buy the Greatest Hit's CD again... BUt if you want something new get this one .. It's a really great CD!!!

3 out of 5 stars extasy and agony.......2003-03-11

This LIME CD comes indeed after a long silence from Denis Le Page. It's hard to say whether this album was a good or bad idea. The first 3-4 tracks are really enjoyable and full of nice memories coming from the typical Lime's powerful and harmonious mixture.
But unfortunately when it comes to the next tracks we feel such a disappointment. Moreover, tracks 5 to 12 are almost a cheap metamorphosis of beautiful Lime sound into a kind of awful DJ Bobo and Dieter Bohlen type.
Maybe just like many others I bought this album while "unexpected lovers" and other magic songs where pumping in my ears.
It's not fair to taint a really beautiful and original past discography by releasing such tracks (Victim of Love sounds like a Santana's copy)!

5 out of 5 stars Lime is back and on "Top Form".......2003-03-08

When I listened to this recording for the first time I loved it immediately and now I can't put the disc down.....it's fantastic!!!...

I never thought we would ever hear from Lime again and was so pleased when I discovered a new release 10 years later.

Typical Lime productions mixed with the sound of the eighties.
and even more up tempo than their usual sound.

If you love Lime then Purchase it for yourself it will get your feet tapping and send chivers down your spine....you won't be dissappointed!!!...

I knew they wouldn't let us down!!!... Well done...can't wait for the next release!!!...

1 out of 5 stars Havin' a bad day.......2002-09-01

Denis LePage must have been going through a bad patch when he put this album together. Since the last Lime album back in 1993, Denis' work has been uneven. The ill-fated Cherry Lime project was atrocious, whereas his work with Amithia ("Music Lover") in the mid-90's was superb. I agree with a previous reviewer that Mr. LePage is following musical trends this time around (what's up with the rap?) rather than making them.

A couple of tracks are good but the standout is definitely "This Is My Life" because it's so typically Lime: the synths, the sweet melody, the male-female duet. It's not perfect, but it's as close as you're going to get to classic Lime. The rest of the album is, in my opinion, mostly throwaway.

I'm afraid I don't see the comparisons between this release and previous Lime works (this is far from being 80's dance music) or even Bobby Orlando tracks.

I'm sorry I wasted my money on this CD. I should have waited for the single release of "This Is My Life" instead.

5 out of 5 stars Lime's back!.......2002-08-29

Hey! It's a new Lime album in about 10 years. I only stumbled upon this by doing a search for music right here at Amazon.com! My mouth just hit the floor! Immediately and without hesitation I ordered this and the CD single! I wasn't disappointed at all! Never mind the first review of this album. Obviously styles do change and so much for the better. I'm not loving every track on this disc but hey - there's just so much going on! I'm a DJ and I had this album clocked out and ready to go for my first night with it at my club. It's gonna turn some heads for sure. Anyone that knows this group will be asking me I'm sure. The first 5 tracks are killer. I don't care if some folks think it's meaningless fodder - it's just hot dance music! Lime has always been a love it or hate it kind of group. Granted some albums are better than others - Lime 3 and Sensual Sensation come to mind but my all time favorite dance tune from them is "Do Your Time On The Planet" (Remix) - which isn't available on CD as of yet. Of course I always loved "Angel Eyes" and "Your Love" both original and 2000 remix.

I've read somewhere that Chris Marsh and Joy Dorris were the visual aspects of this group and the touring partners, but now that I've heard this album it clearly states that Denis LePage is the main vocalist and I'm sure that Denyse LePage was the female vocal lead on the other albums. I could be wrong. They've toured in the 90's at several gay friendly clubs and I missed the chance to go see them several times. Maybe they'll tour again and I'll make sure to catch them this time.

Now if only a video for the first single was in the works........I certainly hope so. This music deserves a wider audience and I'm gonna do my part to promote this at both my clubs!

Description

BOY HITS CAR are known for playing the sickest, loveliest, ugliest, prettiest, most beautiful, melodic, heartfelt music that the band dubs "Love Core". Most recent masterpiece, "The Passage" is an intense journey from start to finish down the road of passion, loss, anger, and survival. Adrenalin pumping pains from "The Sound of a Breaking Heart" to the gut wrenching powerful ballad that beholds "Everything" and culminating in the epic that the album is named for, "The Passage" is a collection of what rock n roll once was and should always be. First single, "Escape the World" is spending the better of winter in heavy rotation and creating a buzz of its own.

3 out of 5 stars Not Worth The Wait.......2007-04-12

I really like Boyhitscar, but this album really just bombed for me. The songs all kind of sound the same and it gets really frustrating listening to him sing about lost-love over and over again. I'd pass on this one, but check out their previous stuff for sure.

5 out of 5 stars great third album.......2006-07-14

I don't really need to tell anyone who has heard BHC to check this album out because they are probably listening to it right now just as I am......

if you haven't heard boy hits car they can be (roughly) compared to bands like system of a down, tool, rage, nonpoint, pulse ultra ... this is a great album, favorite song right now is All the Love We Hold Inside

5 out of 5 stars The greatest live band on the face of this earth.......2006-07-11

This cd is an absolute must.....beautifully done, each song on the cd is buzzworthy.....and if you are one of the lucky people who gets to see them live, you would understand why we all love them so much....pick up a copy of this cd immediately or miss out

5 out of 5 stars More than a worthy follow up.......2006-06-27

It took five years for them to finally get this album out... and it was well worth the wait. It's definitely softer than their self-titled effort, but it's no less intense or passionate. Fans of the first album will definitely enjoy it. The Passage is also considderably more radio-friendly - and NOT in a bad way - which makes us further question why Wind-up dropped the best band they had. The sound on this album is more refined, there's a lot more use of the 12-string and vocal harmonies.

It's a great album from start to finish, a really solid effort. There is also a part two of the story from the self-titled album's jacket. My favorite tracks include "Tonight," "The Sound of a Breaking Heart," and "Beneath the Sea's Bed."

5 out of 5 stars Boy Hits Car is still just as awesome as they have always been.......2006-05-09

I've always enjoyed Boy Hits Car and its a crying shame that they aren't recieving more attention. I am certain that if more people heard them, most people would like it. They have a very unique and identifiable sound, both fun to listen to and reflective of talent. These guys know how to write unique music, giving us all something new and refreshing! Whether you've heard of Boy Hits Car before, or this would be your first time, chances are you will like this album a lot.

Good stuff. 9/10

5 out of 5 stars I'll make it look like an accident.......2006-07-05

If Fiona Apple or Heather Nova had a brooding, beautiful, ominous twin from a dark enchanted forest, then that sister would be Hannah Fury. Her debut EP "Soul Poison" shows Hannah off at her absolute best, with her gothic lyrics and exquisitely lovely musical skills.

It opens with the rippling keyboard of "Marie Antoinette's Necklace," an disturbing and beautiful song about murder. "I'll make it look like an accident/I'll make it look like he was trying to hurt me... I'll make it seem like I was innocent/I'll make the strychnine taste like raspberry tea," Fury sings dreamily, before crooning that "I fear for your soul/ as you sow, you shall reap..."

It's followed by songs like the yearning "Idaho" with its piano melody; it's also the most romantic song on the EP, as the narrator confides that with her lover, she can cope with travel. Then there's the delicate gothic music of "Eat the Dirt," and the heartbreaking ballad of "The Last Piece of Cake."

The peak of it all is a warped folk ballad, based on the traditional folk song "Scarborough Fair." In Fury's hands, it turns into an embittered plea. "Please don't go to Scarborough Fair/Honey, poison, oakwood and wine/Don't forget me, I still care/He was not a true love of mine!"

It's a shame that Fury isn't better known than she is, because she is an exquisite musician -- her beautiful melodies, throaty voice and poetic songs are light-years ahead of anything you'll hear on the radio. Not just artistically, but in the dark, velvety atmosphere.

Most of the music is piano alone, with no guitars or percussion. Fury's self-taught piano skills are wonderful, whether it's the delicate ripples of "Idaho" or the taut tune of "Eat the Dirt." The music also gets overlaid with some misty organ and some shuddering distortion, but the heart of it is the white-and-black keys.

The songwriting complements the music as well, with its dark undercurrents. And the highlight is Fury's singing, with her exquisitely downplayed vocals. No histrionics, no acrobatics. Even when she's singing about cold-blooded murder, betrayal and drinking blood, she sounds calm and dreamy.

"Soul Poison" was Hannah Fury's first release, and it has the polish and beauty of a veteran singer-songwriter. Dark, exquisite and disturbing.

Seriously,I enjoy all types of music,so it's not a genre thing. It's just a matter of how many "college rock" bands can a person take? I saw them in Wilmington and it just bored me to death. I hate to be so blunt, but whenever I go to Wilmington(I'm in Jacksonville,NC) everyone talks my ear off about this band. The cd was given to me,and the best thing about it is the production.
This is like MTV stuff, and that's not a compliment. I also heard they had some songs on Dawson's Creek. Hello! That is not cool.
If they can just get out of the box,and kill that college rock typical sound, they may have less songs on tv,but a little more respect.
