5 out of 5 stars Calm as can be.......2006-03-20

Amazing Album. Better then the first album IMHO and I thought that album was solid as well. I've had this since it's first came and I still listen to this late nights/early mornings after a night out or on raining and grey days. This album along with the after hours series are the two best things Global Underground has done in ages (compare to some of their rather weak relases for their main titles). Very mood dirven and well put together. The Forth is amazing as always and the placing and cutting of tracks makes the album seamless (as a matter of fact many of these tracks were edited specificly for this album. you can't find some Like "Glitter Love" any where but here.)

I believe vol .3 should be out in Europe already and in the states in April. can't wait!

5 out of 5 stars Well Done.......2003-12-26

I've gotta say, its not very often that I come across a Cd that I can listen to all the way through, without skipping a few crappy tracks. This Cd has a different type of aura about it, I listen to it all the time... if i'm going home from a rave, laying down with a girl, or just trying to go to sleep. this cd's got it all, and it's very relaxed... I particualarly like the last track on the Cd "feels like forever" cos of the mellow vocals and the overall soft beat of it all. This cd has ambience written all over it. Its a good break from Jungle, Progressive, Drum&Bass tunes i generally listen to. it usually calms me down and lays out a good feeling regardless of what i'm doing. Its a great buy along with the Electric Calm V.1 which came out previously. You won't be let down on either of these

3 out of 5 stars Calming sequel detours into ambient noodle.......2003-11-19

Electric Calm 1 was one of 2002's lost little wonders, a collection of tranquil electronic treasures from the Quad Communications label (owned by Global Underground records) mixed and placed in a snazzy eggshell-white DVD package. It sold roughly 8000 copies, but managed a bevy of good reviews. Hence the sequel.

Certainly in their favor, producers The Forth (John Elliot and Andrew Archer) avoid ambient retreads of popular trance tunes which pop up on all those big-market Chill collections. Meanwhile, they cut, nip and tuck each track inside the ol' computer for extra-seamless mixing. They're in a tough battle however, with a dozen wallflower tracks too shy to introduce themselves to your attention span. The forlorn chants of Lo Step "The Roots" offer an evocative start, while the lush harmonics and skittered beat of J-Punch "Temple" sustain that flow. The Forth's "Dusk 2 Dawn" stirs things up nicely with a tempo switch from airy snyths to punchy vibrations halfway. Twisted Air's "Feels Like Forever" floats a lullaby vocal over airy drums to drift calmly to a close.

Alas The Forth's "Kaleidoscope" (under their alias Trafik) drags under a cluttered wave of synths. Some other work (PBAS "Last House on the Left", 23rd State "Catoplex") shows detail and good intention, but lacks hook or spark.

Relaxing for sure, there's little reason to get up from the couch and skip a track; but Electric Calm 2 runs dangerously close to invoking little but apathy. Any potential sequel would do well to drop the ambient noodle that fills most of this album for something you can actually hum.
