Editorial Reviews
A leading figure from the original Chicago House Music scene, Roy Davis, Jr. is currently one of the most sought-after producers in the nu-soul and dance music scenes. He has performed at thousands of events around the world as both headlining DJ and as part of his live nine-piece band Roy Davis Jr. & The Soldiers of Universal Love (S.O.U.L).
Water For Thirsty Children is without question some of the best work Roy Davis Jr. has released to date. This new album promises to deliver the signature groove-based soulful house tunes that Roy has become internationally renowned for, as well as a new, deeper side of his journey into the realm of urban music. This collection of all original tracks makes a stunningly heroic leap into various elements of deeply moving soul, R&B, crossover jazz and house. Featuring a multitude of guest musicians, the album pushes the funk with guitars, bass, sax and trumpet riding along Roys jazzy keyboard and drum work. Roy himself also performs vocal duties on 7 of the 9 tracks, with additional vocal finesse from Chicago MC J. Fury and Tokyos top poet/mc Marcellus, whose captivating flow graces the albums title track. His recent remix for Englands Seal on the track, "Get It Together" went to #1 for two weeks in a row on the U.S. Billboard dance charts in September 2003. No stranger to the top of the charts, Roys remixes for Modjos "Lady (Hear Me Tonight)" also reached #1 in 2001, and Roys own genre-defining 2-step track from 1997 "Gabrielle" was in nearly every international dance magazines top 10 of the year. Roy has also remixed many top artists including Mary J Blige, DAngelo, Eric Benet and Faith Evans, Ian Pooley and dozens more.
