Todd Terry Presents Ready for a New Day

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Ready for a New Day features dramatically charged vocal performances by the likes of Martha Wash, Jocelyn Brown, Shannon, and Bernard Fowler. The title track, graced by Wash's ecstatic singing, is pure house joy. Antoinette Roberson's fine backup vocals and Johan Brunkvist's jazzy organ fills flesh out the soulful tune. But be sure to check out this CD's instrumentals. "I'm Feelin' It" transforms vocal samples and a synth melody fragment into relentless riffs that ride a down-and-dirty drum track. On "Come on Baby" computer-game atonality bumps up against a Kraftwerkian rhythm, while "The Rave" is a nice slice of pulsing, whooshing minimalist techno. Terry deftly alternates songs and groove tracks to create a cool flow of mood, style, and sound. --Fred Cisterna

5 out of 5 stars Keep it movin'.......2000-08-16

I bought this a few weeks ago and can't stop playing it. The 2nd song is great. The music is unique and the singers are blended perfectly with the rythmns. Pick this one up, I don't think you will be disapointed.

5 out of 5 stars My fave of all time...........2000-08-10

This cd has to be one of my faves of all time. My all time fave dance song is Keep on Jumpin'. When I first heard this song years ago, I could not help but to smile and listen to the meaning. A lot of people listen to music for the rhythm that it has, but I listen to its message. This is a very spiritual song that has a lot of meaning. Something Goin' On is another one of those songs. If you like high energy beats and a lot of hand clappin as you dance, get this. Everytime I dance to this cd at home or out somewhere, it is like I listened to it all over again. I am sure the next time you hear this album, you will act a different way than you did before. And to all that have not heard this, you will never be the same.

I am new to dance music and I'm no expert on the genre. Let me just say, though, that this CD kept some part of my body in motion from start to finish. (OK, maybe not track 13.)

If you are a fan of Martha Wash, this CD is a must-have for your collection. In addition to her tracks is an awsome one by Bernard Fowler--Satisfaction Guaranteed--and It's Over Love featuring Shannon.

Be forewarned, though, that if you're trying to make a decision to purchase this one based on It's Over Love, you may be more satisfied with the 5 versions on the CD Single of that song. If you just want some great dance grooves to commute by or drop in the sound system for background, buy this CD.
