This album really is a party. This compilation, is meant to give a little flavor of what is being played in gay clubs. Most likely NY gay clubs. There is some soulful songs like, I Don't Want To Lose Your Love by B Angie B and Best Days (TNT's Mo' Soul Radio Edit) by Juice. G.A.Y. by, Geri Halliwell, is the disco anthem that gets the party started. There were some old soul songs, that didn't need to be included, but they still add some taste to this album.

POOR EXCUSE TO CASH IN USING "SEX AND THE CITY".......2005-03-25

The only reason I can see why this album is out is because somebody wanted to find a way to cash in on the HBO series "Sex And The City". Track #7, "You Got The Love" by The Source feat. Candi Staton was apparently featured prominently during the closing credits of the last episode of the series (at least according to the sticker that is screaming this information to you from the front of the CD wrapper!). So, instead of issuing the track as a single, EMI thought they could make more money by issuing a gay-oriented compilation. Though I don't agree with their marketing ("Let's sell this to gay guys 'cuz, hey, it's 'Sex & The City', and you just KNOW they're gonna buy it!"), I can see why they had to resort to doing so: "You Got The Love" is just an OK track that's really a bit too weak to stand on its own.

So what do you get for your money? Not much, really. This disc is an unmixed CD consisting mostly (though not entirely) of short radio versions. For example, "Armed And Extremely Dangerous" by First Choice clocks in at a whopping 2:48...could they spare it? If you can't give us at least the album version or the 12" single version, why not scrap it altogether? The only solid tracks are the until-now incredibly hard to find extended John Luongo remix of "Boogie Oogie Oogie" by A Taste Of Honey, as are "Gonna Get Over You" by France Joli and the two Hi-NRG tracks from the 80's (but even then, only one of these is a long version). The rest is garbage, particularly the Geri Halliwell track, "G.A.Y." which is not only dumb, but rather condescending as well. A cheap marketing ploy if there ever was one!

Avoid this piece of rubbish. There are so many other dance compilations out there (whether gay-oriented or not) that do a MUCH better job of providing you decent versions of quality tracks.

Depth of Holy Week Captured.......2007-04-16

I bought this for the voices of Michael Chance and James Bowman, as well as for Robert King. Once again these two famous counter-tenors are teamed up. Both with different voices but the perfect blend. Tracks 3 and 4 are solos, and the rest duets, with the singers complimenting each other magnificently. If you enjoy the mysterious and lengthy sound of sacred music, focusing specifically on the voice, you will love this recording.

The sacred music of Couperin has an intensity and power rarely found in baroque church music. It was mostly scored for one, two or 3 voices and continuo; this CD is an excellent example of his work. The name "tenebrae" probably refers to the darkness that gradually spread during the service as candles were extinguished one by one until Matins ended in darkness. The first 2 lessons are for solo voice;the third is a duet. The disc begins with a Motet which was written in honor of the marytr St. Bartholomew during which the 2 voices imitate and chase each other in 3rds. The selection "Venite Exultemus Domino" is largely an exultant text with suspensions of great beauty and ending in a surprisingly low tessitura. To my mind the "Magnificat" with its variety of textual moods and rich harmony is the real "showcase" on this recording! And with the 2 great countertenor voices of Chance and Bowman we have the best possible rendition. They are a great team vocally for they blend well and indeed are very similar in their singing style, although I think Chance as the edge in overall performance. A great recording in every way.
