5 out of 5 stars Great reggae album.......2006-03-20

"Bad Boys" is an old favorite of mine. Most of you are familiar with the title track theme from "Cops." But the entire album is great and I don't skip any song.

1 out of 5 stars SELL OUT TO THE ENTIRE GENRE' OF REGGAE MUSIC.......2006-02-04

Listen y'all, I don't know about you, but I HAVE NO INTENTION WHATSOEVER of

LISTENING TO OR SUPPORTING A REGGAE BAND THAT SELLS THEIR MUSIC (or should

I say, muzak?) TO THE COPS TV show. The hell with this band. I love reggae,

and I realize that cops are an important part of our society and culture

(they keep the peace), BUT REGGAE AND COPS?

Take a very long walk off of a short pier boys.

Inner Circle are sell outs! I feel that you, the curious and not so

knowledgable reggae purveyor, should disregard all of these five star

reviews of this band, because they are written by folks that have no

interest in true reggae, and have no clue what it is about! Call me a

reggae snob if you will, but I truly think that if you want to check out

reggae you should close this page and do a google search on " LISTMANIA,

crucial reggae". Do the work and start at a more real place. A couple of suggestion are The Congos 'Heart of the Congos', anything by Israel Vibrations, The Abyssinians, Lee Scratch Perry,...But this band will not satisfy, they are designed to be listened to by fools. Oh, wait, I'm sorry, I had no... I am sooo Embarrassed.

Really, in years to come you will be glad.

When I am at my local used CD store, I offer to smash their extra copies

(they have many) of this album for them, they think I'm kidding - I'm not.

This band is a joke.

5 out of 5 stars Thank you so much quick shipping.......2004-04-29

Thank you so much quick shipping. It is GREAT job !!!!....
I enjoy it....

5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2003-11-21

I hate to dance, and I hate any type of music besides rock, and some rap, but this is unbeliveable.Hot beats, great rhymes, etc. just make this a great cd. Inner circle is a great SKA band, a type of music I like. I heard "Sweat", and i was just shocked, because i was singing with the song, vibing with the bass, and just feeling the music. The most popular song on this cd, is probable "Bad Boys", because it is the theme song for COPS, a great show. And that song is also a great reason to buy this cd.
Listen to the samples of "Sweat" and "Bad Boys", if you DONT like those songs, i guarantee you that you wont like this cd. But the majority of all us people, HAVE to like those songs. Another thing, why the hell isnt "Sweat" and "Bad Boys" on Inner circles Greatest Hits??? Very shocking, 'cause "Sweat", to this day, is still playing on the radio.
But if Inner Circle has me as a fan, it HAS TO BE GOOD. I like Green day, Dead Kennedys, Blink 182, and Sublime, etc., so Inner Circle isn't really in the same area as these bands, so they really stand out. And for the price, its a great buy.
Peace out~laterz

4 out of 5 stars have the cops in your room with this great cd.......2001-04-02

Inner circle's name might not be that familiar but the track bad boys has been listed to by almost everybody in the united states from the hit tv show cops. This CD contains no offensive language, but for some parent the content in the song might not be the best for YOUNG children to listen to for some (when I got the CD I was 6) it might be a little bit frightening if you listen to the lyrics closely, but overall the cd is appropriate. I suggest that you but the CD.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful, And They're Even Better Live.......2007-03-12

"La Musique" by the Pine Leaf Boys nearly does the impossible. It almost captures one of the most exciting live bands around on a disc. Of course, there's no way to listen to this album and manage to see bandmembers like Cedric Watson and Wilson Savoy seamlessly trade off accordians and fiddles, guitar maestro Jon Bertrand flail around like Jimi Hendrix a la Elton, LA, or catch the steady rhythm of Blake Miller and drummer/vocalist/whatever may be needed Drew Simon. However, the album does come close.

At first listen, you'd think that this band might have stepped out of the early recording days of the likes of the Balfa Brothers. But listen again, and you'll notice that this band has managed to carry on the traditions of yesterday and harness in the power of more modern Cajun music to make a wonderful sound all of their own. Highlights of this album include my personal favorite, "La Belle Josette," the high energy "Pine Leaf Boy Two-Step," "Homage a Poullard," "Les Barres de la Prison," and "Chez Moreau." In all actuality, the entire album is a highlight.

If you ever get the chance to see these guys live, you're in for a treat. They're one of the most entertaining bands around and they're like no other Cajun band on the scene. They have a solid foundation made up of Cajun and Creole greats like Iry Lejeune, Canray Fontenot and Dennis McGee, but fuel this tradition with the power of youth. I highly recommend this album and their live show.

5 out of 5 stars Continuing the Cajun tradition with a fresh enthusiasm.......2006-12-18

This is a beautifully melodic CD that carries the old Cajun tradition without being stale or overly repetitive of the past. The French lyrics almost became a thing of the past generations but thankfully it is carried on by this band and others in the area.
They perform these beautiful songs without the need of trying to inject other styles or genres to market themselves as being more "original". This is a timeless and yet present day continuation of this unique style of music. And they are so young and talented...expect more greatness from these guys in the future.

5 out of 5 stars The Next Generation of Great Cajun Musicians.......2006-09-12

The great Cajun musician Dewey Balfa once observed that "A culture cannot be kept alive under glass in a museum." And, indeed, the constant struggle for any folk musician is to maintain fidelity with tradition while also instilling a living vitality into the music. The Pine Leaf Boys have achieved this difficult balance as they offer Cajun standards that they have skillfully (re)arranged. They steer clear of the kind of contemporizing touches that will seem hackneyed in a few years, and they let their playing speak for itself. The result is an album that has a timeless feel but with an energy level that is unmistakably young.

Of all The Beatles covers, they forgot to include the 3 songs from the Party album, not to mention the many other covers from that album. If they're gonna make an album like this, they should include it all.Beach Boys' Party!/Stack-O-Tracks

3 out of 5 stars interesting but odd compilation.......2007-01-28

This is a unique Beach Boys compilation, in that it collects several cover songs that the Beach Boys did throughout their career. The project could have been a great one, but falls short of the mark. There are a few redeeming qualities, though, that make it a must-have for serious Beach Boys fans. Here is an overview of pros and cons:

PROS:

You get two very rare songs that at present are not available on any other release. Those songs are "The Letter" and "With A Little Help From My Friends," both of which had only been temporarily released on an album called "Rarities" in the 80s, which was removed from circulation after only a brief run. It was latter pressed to CD in small quantities (I believe in Japan only), after which it has remained off the market. Thus, if you're a Beach Boys collector wanting everything they've done and missed out on "Rarities" and don't want to pay out the wazzoo for it on eBay, here's your chance to get these two songs.

Also, "Johnny B Goode" is a different mix from what appears on the "Concert / Live In London" two-fer CD, and it's a much better mix at that, bringing the vocals out where you can actually hear them well this time around.

CONS:

Some very noteworthy covers that the Beach Boys did have been omitted, including the hits "Sloop John B," "Barbara Ann," "I Can Hear Music" and "Rock And Roll Music," as well as some other great recordings such as "Why Do Fools Fall In Love," "Kiss Me Baby," "Hushabye," "Cotton Fields" (single version), "I Was Made To Love Her" and "Just Once In My Life." All of these would have been very welcome inclusions (though I personally would opt for the "Live In London" version of "Barbara Ann" over the hit version).

Also, "Walk On By" is an incomplete recording, and since it is already available as a bonus track on the "Friends / 20/20" two-fer, the incomplete song should not have been included on this project.

CONCLUSION:

As already noted, this project could have been great. As it is, it is not bad but nothing all that special, though it's definitely a must have for serious fans on the basis of the pros mentioned above.

3 out of 5 stars Covered By The Beach Boys.......2006-06-22

Sterling Records, the company that released this "Covered By" series (they also have similar CDs by Johnny Cash, Otis Redding and Linda Rondtandt to name a few) have just released their latest jigsaw puzzle of a CD, this time with songs by The Beach Boys. This is a 12 song set that consists of the Boys singing songs made famous by other artists. It is an interesting package, however, it is not in any particular chronological order.

*California Dreamin'
The Mamas & The Papas classic recorded by the Boys in 1986 for their 25th anniversary with Capitol Records. It features Roger McGuinn on 12 string guitar (the video had a cameo by "Papa" John Phillips and Michelle Phillips). This song can also be found on "Made in USA" & Greatest Hits Vol. 3 (Best of The Brothers).

*Do You Wanna Dance?
Originally recorded by Bobby Freeman (and later by The Ramones) this cut comes from the "Today" album released in 1965.

*School Days (Ring Ring Goes The Bell)
The Chuck Berry classic recorded by the Boys for their 1980 "Keppin' The Summer Alive" album. A great live version of this song can be found on the "Knebworth" CD

*Walk On By
Why the Boys would record this Dionne Warwick song is a mystery. Why we only get 56 seconds of the song on the CD is another mystery.

*Come Go With Me
The Del Vikings classic as recorded by the Boys for their 1978 " The M.I.U. Album".

*Johnny B. Goode
Another Chuck Berry classic originally the last song heard on the "Concert" album from 1964. "Before we all get kicked out of here, we're gonna do one more for you. Let's go!" is how they introduce the songs with lots of screaming girls, lots of energy & lots of fun.

*Palisades Park
Originally recorded by Freddie "Boom Boom" Cannon (and written by game show king Chuck Barris) this song (several beats slower than the original) was recorded for the 1976 release "15 Big Ones".

*Then I Kissed Her
The Phil Spector/Ellie Greenwich song originally heard on the 1965 "Summer Days (and Summer Nights) album.

*The Wanderer
"Here he is, the hard working drummer Denny Wilson". Also taken from the 1964 "Concert" album. Dennis seems a bit off but the concert hall filled with screaming girls did not seem to mind.

*Summertime Blues
The Eddie Cochran classic from the 1962 "Surfin' Safari" album. Mike tackles the lower voiced parts.

(The last two tracks were also available on the 1983 Capitol release "Rarities").

*The Letter
Originally recorded by The Boxtops in 1967. This is an out take from the 1967 "Wild Honey" album.

*With A Little Help From My Friends
The Beach Boys take on The Beatles classic from their 1967 "Sgt Pepper's" album. (From Wikipedia) Wilson's creativity reached its apex during the mid-1960s with the Pet Sounds album (which, according to Paul McCartney, inspired the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band).

In agreement with the other reviewers, this is by far one of the best CD's ever made. If you have a great (or killer, like mine) stereo, you must listen to this at high volume. It absolutely rocks. If I lose this CD again, I will purchase it again and again (but will back it up this time).

5 out of 5 stars A great comp by one of the dominating labels in dance.......1998-10-31

This comp has a great smattering of old and new. I found myself thinking back to the good ole club days of 1993 when Justin Robertson was the man, and Cat-in-the-Hat hats (arrgh) were in vogue. Deconstruction might be one of the more commercial labels in 'underground' dance, but thier stuff has always been, and still is, tops. This is great stuff, and a lot of fun.
