About the Artist
THE VOCALIST

Rick has always been meticulous about his vocal training, approaching his voice as a delicate instrument and subscribing to consistent and disciplined methods of practice. His vocal repertoire includes, bhajans, taan singing, soca, reggae, Indian pop, chutney, and mainstream pop and rock. From this wide range of styles, it is easy to see how Rick’s new sound has been labeled "fusion".

Rick has been praised on numerous occasions on the great range and smooth texture of his voice. It has an infectious quality that, as described by one critic, "leaves his listeners longing for more."

THE MUSICIAN

Rick’s musical versatility is instantly recognizable, with a proficiency in guitar, bass, keyboards, and trumpet. These skills were first honed with his brothers in the band, Swarangeet. Now he is using his musical experience to pave the way of the new fusion genre. Rick’s commanding combination of vocal and instrumental skills reached newsworthy proportions during the band’s 2001 tour in London. Performing as a lead vocalist and bassist during the Notting Hill Carnival, his highly energized Soca music performance spanned 12 hours uninterrupted and was given to an estimated audience of 1.2 million people. Regional press described Rick as, "nothing less than spectacular."

THE PERFORMER

Since age 5, performing has felt as natural to Rick as breathing. It is not uncommon for crowds of listeners to become instantly entranced by his high energy and immediate connection with the audience. As a young fan recently exclaimed "his music is spiritual!"

Rick has performed in over 10 countries and given more than 1000 performances. While performing in the 2002 Chutney Soca Monarch, the crowd of over 20,000 people chanted "Rick, Rick, Rick" even before the conclusion of his first song. This instance was not an exception as that dynamic has been repeated at almost every Rick Ramdehal performance.

Rick is now diligently preparing for a full tour in support of his upcoming SexyDancin' release in March 2004. The tour includes featured dates during Miami Carnival, Long Island Carnival, Toronto Caribana, Trinidad Carnival and shows in prominent clubs throughout the eastern U.S., Canada, and the Caribbean.

Product Description
SexyDancin’ is a tantalizing debut album form Rick Ramdehal. While most debut albums present music of one genre and can be immediately mapped back to "having the flavor" of a current super star, in SexyDancin’ Rick breaks the barriers that were installed by years of musical tradition and makes "his" music. Music that comes from his heart and is made to reach others and to create excitement in listeners for his other albums immediately.

The mixture of reggae, hip-hop, indian influences, soca and dancehall gelled in a fluid yet dance floor gyrating manner creates a sound that will captivate the waist lines of the 12-32 years old inner girls all over the world. A great listening ensemble of music.

5 out of 5 stars Wow!!! Great listening and great shagging .......2005-05-14

In the Carolina's there's a popular swing dance called the shag that has not only provided a social pastime for many individuals but has also created a market for what shaggers know as "beach music". In general, most artists that recorded what have become beach music classics didn't intentionally record them knowing that the songs would eventually be labeled as beach music and often recorded many other songs that weren't shaggable. This isn't true for J.D. Cash. Being a modern recording artist and performer well-known by shaggers, he knew he was recording a beach music CD. But wait, there's more! Not only is almost every song on this CD great shagging music, this CD offers fresh interpretations of timeless classics sensitively performed by a singer with an obviously highly trained voice. A beautiful vibrato with great breath control and gobs of individuality backed by some very fine musicians with some brilliant arrangements. OK, is this CD for you? If your looking for Theme From a Summer Place ala Percy Faith with a tripleting piano and strings, maybe not. Like I said, J.D. Cash has some very unique and fresh interpretations here. "Theme From a Summer Place" has an almost a disco-ish sound to it that goes well with the lyrics and fits J.D. Cash's voice and style perfectly. For "What a Difference a Day Makes", forget Dinah Washington's torch-song version or Esther Phillips disco version. Think somewhere in between. It's slightly disco-ish, remember this is dance music, but not all out Studio 54 disco. J.D. Cash's voice just floats over this one. And how about Tony Hatch's "Call Me"? It has just enough of a bossa nova influence to remind the listener of the original, and is another fine complement to J.D. Cash's voice. And "Shangri-la". This is the one that the shaggers loved most when the CD was released. Forget all the versions you've heard by the vocal groups with the fine harmonies, forget all the Vegas-style renditions you've heard of this classic, J.D. Cash brings a senstivity to this song that transports the listener to a place of beauty that can only be imagined. Dance music very rarely gets this good for listening. This is one CD that deserves more attention from the general public now that the newness has worn off among dancers.

1 out of 5 stars Whats Up with this guy!?.......2005-01-04

Does he really think he has a good voice? His voice doens't fit with the music, his sound is undefinable. The beats are nice, but as soon as he starts singing I get sick to my stomach. Just listen to the tracks and you'll hear what I mean. If you want to listen to real dance music try a Dancehall compilation. This is just disappointing to a music fan that loves to dance.

    5 out of 5 stars Fantastic...........2004-10-13

This song is SO sweet, so why can't I find it anywhere? Hardly anyone's heard of him which is sad.

5 out of 5 stars About time for Rick.......2004-07-21

Hey all, wazup, just wanted to drop a line, I have seen this guy perform several time in local clubs in NYC. His music is hot. My girlfriend plays it over and over (in my car!) and its the only one I allow her to repeat over and over, you know who girls are, when they like something the spin it top death. Anyway, heard it on one and two clubs, but not much radio, I wonder when its gonna catch on. I rate this album a 10. Get it and you will not regret.
