Recovering the Satellites may not be quite the tower of song that the Crows' debut August and Everything After was, but it could hardly be called a sophomore slump. Vocalist Adam Duritz and crew mine similar territory on the more densely produced Satellites, couching tales of dreamers, lovers, and losers in music that's part classic rock redux and part heartfelt folk jangle. As able as the band is though, it remains Duritz's show, and his plaintive voice and serpentine lyrics are what drive this record home, particularly on "Daylight Fading," "Miller's Angels" and the aching hit "A Long December." --Michael Ruby

Best Crows CD.......2007-04-02

I am a big Crows fan and have purchased many of their cds...most of which are more recent than this one. I was just doing a search for another cd and this old classic came up. Recovering the Satellites in my opinion is the best album they have made. If you are wondering which CD of the Crows to try, make it this one. It represents them the best and the music makes for great listening.

Very Nice Sophmore Effort.......2006-12-20

The bands sophomore release was 3 years in the making and the result is another strong album, although not quite as good as the debut. This album offers up a bit of a harder rock edge on some tracks and it works quite well. "Angels Of The Silences" and "Have You Seen Me Lately" both rock out more ferociously than anything on the debut and both the lyrics and music are strong. Of the more melancholy fare that the Crows are most known for "A Long December, "Goodnight Elizabeth" "Daylight Fading" and the title track "Recovering The Satellites" all fill the bill nicely. One of my favorite tracks on the album is "Another Horsedreamers Blues". The song is about a woman who is addicted to playing the horses at the local track. As a person who has been known to frequent a horse race track on occasion I can relate to the lyrics, and the added string section really adds to the ambience of the piece. This ranks right up with Jimmy Buffett's "I'ts Midnight And I'm Not Famous Yet" and Alan Parson's "Turn Of A Friendly Card" as one of the best songs about gambling ever written. There are some clunkers on the album though. "Monkey:" is a throwaway track and "Children In Bloom" and "Millers Angels" don't do a lot for me either. Overall I don't think this one is quite as strong as their debut, but it is still a solid effort and worth owning.

Let it all out.......2006-11-23

Wow! Double wow! If you're pissed, pop this little beauty in and away you go. This isn't your father's Counting Crows. This is the Crows drunk, pissed off, runing around smashing up the living room. I'm a Crows fan from way back and I have to say this album really does it for me. I love all the Crows albums (not including the new version of Hard Candy with the redone version of Big Yellow Taxi...pure crap) but Satellites is where Adam Duritz and the Crows shine. I mean if you find yourself stuck in a situation you desperatly want out of is there any better song to put on then I'm Not Sleeping? Feel the need to thrash around? Look no farther then Angels of the Silences and Have Seen Me Latley. Bring it down, mellow out a little to the fanciful sounds of Daylight Fading and Goodnight Elizabeth. It's all a solid album that has not gotten the credit it needs in the least. They really did something here. Don't pass this one by, it's best if you have it.

the high spots are excellent.......2006-09-13

no, it doesn't get played around here as much as 'August' but it's worth the purchase price for *either* the guitar solo in "Goodnight Elisabeth" or the lyrics to "Mercury" - two of the highest highs the Crows ever hit.

Angels of the silences is awesome!!!.......2006-02-16

Angels of the silences rocks! it is my favourite crows song of all time and so you should buy this album even if it is simply to bask in the almighty splendour of this song. Buy it now or forever hold your peace.

A very fun, enjoyable, rocking CD. For those into Southern Rock(esp. 'old' Southern Rock) you'll enjoy listening to this CD. It brought back memories for me of when I was younger.

One of Southern Rock's last gritty, greasy great gasps, these guys kicked more hiney than a high school football coach, letting fly with a raunchy, raspy ROCK 'N ROLL attitude flecked with country, blues, and bar band boogie. Helmed by bad boy belter/geetar slinger Dan Baird, the Satellites had it all... brontosaurus chops, snotty swagger, AND a sense of humor (which never hurt NOBODY nohow in the music biz). Monster hit KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF sets the piledriver pace for this career roundup appropriately named after one of Chuck Berry's most tread upon pieces (Bob Seger's good, but he ain't THIS good!). Crash 'n burn covers (HIPPY HIPPY SHAKE, originally written and performed by Chan Romero, Caesar's son), Ringo's DON'T PASS ME BY (one of but two Beatles tunes he penned), and a party perfect John Fogerty medley of ALMOST SATURDAY NIGHT/ROCKIN' ALL OVER THE WORLD blend seamlessly with Baird's bare bones double entendre OPEN ALL NIGHT and the bloozey ALL OVER BUT THE CRYIN'. This excellent 20-disc compilation gathers almost all the best from the Georgia Satellites three studio albums. I picked it up some ten or twelve years ago on a whim, knowing little or nothing about the Satallites, but I loved it straight away, and I still take it out and play it from time to time.

Equal parts Chuck Berry and AC/DC, the Satellites played rough, tough and gritty rock n' roll, joyous three chords romps with lots of firepower and the gap-toothed Dan Baird in front alongside lead guitarist Rick Richards.
Their debut album, which featured the hit single "Keep Your Hands To Yourself", got lost amid the pop metal of the mid-eighties, and the next two ones sank without a trace, which is a real shame, because the Satellites did what very few other bands could or would in the 1980s - they played real rock n' roll.

And there are plenty of highlight here. From "The Georgia Satellites" come the tough-as-nails hard rock of "Can't Stand The Pain" and the Hindu Love Gods' "Battleship Chains", and the album "Open All Night" provides songs like "Mon Cheri" and a supremely gritty rendition of Ringo Starr's "Don't Pass My By".
"In The Land Of Salvation And Sin", the Satellites' last album, was more stylistically diverse than its two predecessors, and the acoustic shuffle "Another Chance" is one of the group's best songs...all four musicians sing, and Baird's lyrics are some of his best ever.

"Let It Rock" also includes a few non-album tracks, like the title track (a live rendition of the Chuck Berry-number), and a fine medley of John Fogerty's mid-70s classics "Almost Saturday Night" and "Rockin' All Over The World", and a nice little essay by Jimmy Guterman.
This is a near-perfect introduction to an often overlooked little rock n' roll combo which deserved better.

Good compilation!.......2004-04-29

This is a good compliation of the Satellites. But where you need to start is with "In The Land of Salvation and Sin" record and go from there. That is an all time classic of rock and roll. This has tastes from that record, but you need more than an appetizer!

Time to Bounce.......2007-05-01

To date, "Bouncing off the Satellites" was the most expensive album to record and produce, yet it's the least remembered. Most fans remember it because it was during the making of this album that Ricky Wilson passed away. It sank otherwise. But that doesn't mean it's not a great album because it is. The downside to this album is 1)Limited Design on the cover and inner sleeves. 2) Absolutley no pictures of any of the B-52's anywhere on that album (for obvious reasons). 3)While the songs are all fantastic, this album leaves you feeling like the B's didn't colaborate entirely on this record. For example: "Summer of Love"-Kate & Cindy, "Girl from Ipanema"-Cindy, "Housework"-Kate, "Detour"-Fred, "Wig"--All the B's, "Theme for a Nude Beach"-All the B's, "Ain't it Ashame"-Cindy, "Juicy Jungle"-Fred "Communicate"-Fred, Kate, Cindy and "She Breaks for Rainbows"-Cindy. Don't get me wrong, I love this album, it just sounds like due to the circumstances at the time, the band seemed disconnected. But it's not their fault at all.

I Brake For Rainbows Too.......2007-02-25

I think this album is great. It shows a progression in the B-52s sound. When I lived at the beach several of us were heading to see the B's at Carowinds and saw about ten rainbows on the trip up there. We slowed down to look at each one. The concert began with "Bushfire" from "Cosmic Thing". When Fred sang the opening line "On the horizon the landscapes burning red", the entire sky behind the stage lit up in a brilliant flash of lightning courtesy of mother nature. Awesome.

B-52's - 'Bouncing Off Satellites' (Reprise/WEA).......2006-11-29

'Okay' 1986 B-52's album,as this was their fourth actual lp. Sadly enough, I've just discovered this was the last effort with guitarist Ricky Wilson (Cindy's older brother), as he passed on WHILE the band was recording 'Bouncing...'. Not near as good as either of the previous three, but you usually CANNOT deny that a 'new wave' band like this isn't just plain fun to listen to. Remember so few of these tunes, like "Summer Of Love" (great harmony vocals), the somewhat inspiring "Wig", "Theme For A Nude Beach" and "Juicy Jungle". Check it out.

Just as great as the others.......2005-11-26

A lot of people write off "Bouncing Off The Satellites" as not being as good as other B-52 albums and refer to the passing of guitarist Ricky Wilson which occured midway through the completion of the album, but this album is just as good as other albums released by The B-52's in the 80's. Songs like "Theme For a Nude Beach," "Summer of Love," and "Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland," are classic and really good songs. Also, be sure to check out "Ain't It A Shame," a rather melancholy song for the group.

A fine debut.......2004-07-13

The Georgia Satellites issued three high-octane rock n' roll records in the latter half of the 1980s, at a time when such a thing wasn't excactly in vogue. This one was the first, and a sizable hit, mostly due to the presence of the #2 hit single "Keep Your Hands To Youself".
But the next two sank without a trace, and that's a shame, because the Satellites were (and still remain) a really great listen if you like straight-ahead blooze-n-boogie styled rock n' roll.

The last regular Satellites album, 1989's "In The Land Of Salvation And Sin", is the best, the most mature, and the most stylistically varied, but this one is not far behind.
"The Georgia Satellites" opens with that single, the one which remains the only Satellites number most people ever got around to hearing, a swaggering three-chord "hick-rocker" topped by Rick Richards' lead guitar and Dan Baird's drawling vocals.
If you're really just looking for that one song, you should pick up the excellent compilation album "Let It Rock: Best Of The Georgia Satellites" instead of their original albums...but that's not to say that "Hands" is the only good song here, in fact it may not even be the best one. Other highlights include the tough-as-nails hard rock of "Railroad Steel" and "Can't Stand The Pain", a great, shout-along-friendly cover of the Hindu Love Gods' "Battleship Chains", and the melodic mid-tempo rockers "Over And Over" and "Golden Light".
A three-chords-and-a-cloud-of-dust-style rendition of Rod Stewart's "Every Picture Tells A Story" doesn't really add anything to the original, but it's still a great song.

The lyrics aren't excacly Bob Dylan, and there is not a lot of musical variation here, but "The Georgia Satellites" is a fun listen anyway. Casual fans will be perfectly satisfied by "Let It Rock", but Satellites diehards (there must be a few of those around) will want the "real" albums.

one of the most unappreciated bands - and still are.......2004-05-07

Let me start by saying that The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam's Vitalogy, Joni Mitchell, Metallica's Master of Puppets, and of course Bob Dylan are still the tops of all time. But I just can't help but comment on the 'sleepers'. The G.S. fits this to a tee. Keep your hands to yourself is cute - nuff said. battleship chains showed us a bit more versatility to them. but "Nights Of Mystery" and it's bleed into "Every Picture Tells A Story" is one of the few "i remember exactly where I was when I first heard that song" songs out there. I know the intersection I was passing when I first heard Eddie Veder bark out the lines to "Last Exit" just as I did when the first guitar riff of "Nights of Mystery" kicked in.
I agree this was a band in the rough - but they came together on those last two - pulling both melody, originality, and most importantly an expansion of a cover tune (nearly impossible to do) as their own.
Heck I don't even think they were ever aware of the strength of those last two tracks - they don't even appear on the greatest hits.
In short - they dared to take a haunted southern spin on their guitars during a time when "pour some sugar on me" blared across our radios. Had they followed this 'root' sound of theirs, I believe they would be much more than a favorite tune to play at hillbilly weddings.

Good debut!.......2004-04-29

This was a good debut by a band who had a real chance to be something. However, a weaker second record scared people away. This has some highlights, especially the first half. Those who know the best known songs may want to seek out "In The Land of Salvation and Sin" somewhere and come back to this one.

Don't gimme no lines and keep your hands to yourself.......2003-12-13

Twangy southern vocals, an AC-DC power guitar crunch, with a style that brings out a harder edge to southern rock, some rockabilly, and old-fashioned rock and roll, the Georgia Satellites had a brief glimpse of stardom with their breakthrough single about a very prude girl who "tells me the story about a million times, no hugging no kissing till I get a wedding ring" and will not take any hanky-panky before the wedding day. The rest of the album is just as solid and crunchy, every song pumped with sound.

The pounding drums and crunchy guitar of the rowdy "Railroad Steel" is pure rock and roll, and it's clear lead singer Dan Baird is having a lot of fun singing this song.

"You got me tied down with battleship chains/fifty-foot long with a two ton anchor." It's a crime that the second single, the crunching AC-DC stomper "Battleship Chains" didn't do as well as its brother single. Apart from the imagery of the chorus, this song about how being committed to one hampers one's free-spirited ways. "I can't move my legs to chase nobody, to kick nobody but you." or "I can't move my tongue to taste nobody, to lick nobody but you." My favourite track here.

"Red Light" has the ambience of the swamp-type rock done by CCR and John Fogerty, say, "The Old Man Down The Road," mixed with their fast-paced rock and roll sound.

So what is "The Myth of Love?" "The bright promise of tomorrow, and tomorrows without end"? Something where "innocence" and "blindness is my only crime"? Something that's a light that will not shine? Sound about right.

"Can't Stand The Pain" is another fierce guitar and drums attack with some vocal and rhythmic nods to Tom Petty, another southern rocker. Another standout cut.

Things slow down to a more reflective mid-tempo speed with "Golden Light", which is equivalent to the truth here, where "the truth is a moment and it shines just like a flame." One note of interest is that bassist Rick Price originally recorded this song, presumably before he joined the Satellites. But it's back to the usual crunchy theatrics with "Over And Over" and "Nights Of Mystery."

They really burn things up with their cover of Rod Stewart's "Every Picture Tells A Story" which is another memorable cut.

That lead guitar and pounding drums really sets the sound-a-cranking on this release. Face it, this is one of those albums that DJs could've played any song and made a hit radio album-cut out of it. I only heard the title song from their followup album, Open All Night, and figured they still had some extra mileage left in them, but it wasn't to be. Their debut album, though, is what got them up there.

Great debut album.......2003-05-22

The Georgia Satellites' self-titled debut is their most popular and arguably their best album. The Georgia Satellites were a good old kick ... rock n'roll band. Unfortunately, they've been labelled as a one-hit wonder with "Keep Your Hands To Yourself", which is unfair. All of the tracks on this album are very good. The best tracks would have to be the aforementioned hit single, their second single "Battleship Chains", "Golden Light", and "Railroad Steel." There's also an excellent cover of Rod Stewart's "Every Picture Tells A Story" which rocks much harder than the original. This album still sounds fresh as Dan Baird's knack for a good hook, witty lyrics, and twangy voice will never get old. I'd highly recommend this album. They also have a best-of album called Let It Rock-The Best of The Georgia Satellites which not only has several tracks from the debut but also the best songs from their other two albums which are out of print. Their third album, In The Land of Salvation and Sin, is also a great album by these guys, if you can find it.

Post Metal's finest.......2007-04-07

In the footsteps of Neurosis and Isis, with deep roots in Black Sabbath's first albums, a new breed of metal bands are coming to life. They call it Post Metal or Ambient Metal. I became aware of Rosetta through an article in wikipedia about Post Metal. Rosetta's album is a mixture of Neurosis, Isis, Callisto and Cult of Luna, but with their own distinct sound. A magnificent double disc album with one disc that shows musicians of the hightes qualities; vocal, bass, guitars and a really high performance drumming - the other disc more athmospheric; in the footsteps of House of Low Culture. Rosetta are newcomers to an evolving "metal-branch" together with the equally exciting Russian Circles and we welcome them. Togheter with other bands they develope metal music into a path that we who grow up with the first Black Sabbath albums will apreciate for years to come.

Great music! Not so great vocals........2007-02-02

This CD contains some wonderful work. The music itself is very atmospheric and is comprised of flowing melodic goodness. The well composed. The one thing I dislike about the album is the vocals. They are DRENTCHEDDD in reverb and the singers dynamic NEVER changes. I really feel that the vocals pull down hard on the other instruments. All in all, it's a good listen. Still worth the purchance. I just wish they would have listened back after recording :P

simply fantastic........2006-12-07

this album is unique. playing both discs at the same time does give you different songs and in that regard the mashup is greater than each disc by itself. the first disc is bone-crushing, the second disc very much ambient. it hasn't left my cd player in the last 3 weeks.

Why is their vocalist screaming all the time?.......2006-09-19

Seriously, this band is amazing! But why does their singer suck so much? We already have a mess of screamers and growlers and such, why can't he just sing? Sure, he may be angry or sad or whatever, but there are plenty of other ways to express that emotion instead of repeated and boring screams. They just plain suck. Rosetta doesn't even need a singer, they would sound a whole lot better without one.
The instrumentation on this album is sick! Drumming is stunning, the guitar and bass lines are epic and creative, but their vocalist is horrible. Another screamer screaming to be "heavy", I guess.

Something great.......2006-07-07

This is an amazing CD and I've had the luck to have seen Rosetta play live 2 times and both were incredible. If your into progressive space metal or "metal for astronauts" as they call it then check them out. For fans of Isis and pelican. they definitely share a strong resemblance to Isis but have a very unique sound to them so its nothing more than a small analysis.

as for the reviewer below, that is correct this is basically 3 CDs. first cd, second cd, then the combination of the two which is really interesting and a cool idea.

Rosetta is currently on tour so if you get the chance definitely see them live its quite an experience. buy this cd and see them play, i know you won't regret it.

i remember when i first heard this i was thinking i'd found a really good album i'd never really heard of and thought that was neat. but then i got like halfway through the album and wanted to hear something else. it sounds really good right away, but then it doesn't really hold my interest, maybe cuz some of the songs aren't as good as the others and it's too long. if they had left off about half the songs it would be at least twice as good. i think it sounds a little like portishead.

After the busy, dizzy soundscapes of "Silver Apples of the Moon," Laika return two years later with the cooler, spacier sonic drifts of "Sounds of the Satellites." There are still clanks, quirks and rattles a'plenty, but with larger spaces in between. "Prarie Dog" lopes and glistens, like stars twinkling over a grassy hill. "Spooky Rhodes" and "Breather" pillow you on lush drifts of gentle electronica. "Bedbugs" and "Poor Gal" stir up the mix with car alarms, clanks, inner city groove and outerspace noise. "Blood and Bones" hits a happy medium, tempo, noise and space.

Lyrically, Margaret Fiedler is still mining the same vein she hit on "Silver Apples"--domestic violence ("Shut Off/Curl Up"), feminism ("Bedbugs"), and characters from the edge of society ("Poor Gal"). This album also contains some of Margaret's darkest lyrics ever: "Dead dreams dropping off the heart like leaves in a dry season" ("Breather"); "There are things I can't explain; why tornadoes love the plains; why my dreams have lost their wings..." ("Spooky Rhodes").

Over all, a more haunting album than "Silver Apples," but just as worthy to belong in any discerning music fan's collection. And if they've still got some left, the liner notes tell you how to get a Laika snowglobe.

Haunting, ambient, complex, but always musical........2000-02-25

This is one of the few records that lives up to the promise of electronic music. Some of the tracks are very complex, but they always remain musical. Laika uses a mixture of new technology like drum loops, and old technology (fender rhodes organ, electric bass) and the result is a very organic album. The songs really breathe in a way that few 'electronica' pieces do. Good lyrics also.

First listening in the car was too unfocused to really appreciate this cd. I'd have to agree this one doesn't neccessarily fit in any 'genre' of electronic. Playing now on the boom box in the quiet concentrated night, the music takes flight. Vocals thick and husky, yet still flying about like the higher voiced siren types. Sure you could dance to it, but not the same old bass drum endless mix. These folks are exploring some new areas. Not exactly world beat, cousins in conception perhaps. Organic drumming, electronic backfill. Guitar much apreciated. The lyrics will take a few headphone listenings. You can spend time with this cd. I'd suggest it, if you are looking for something intelligent but genuinely inventive. And still, fun. Feels more like a celebration than the moody stuff that many of their contemporaries are putting out these days. I wish I could provide a comparison, but I can't. That's one of the better reasons to consider the music. It is unique. Contemporary, not over the edge for the sake of 'originality'.

This Cd is futuristic and is ahead of its time. The songs are strange and mysterious, but are still fun to listen to. Sounds of the Satellites beams you up to the moon!

They Found their Way Home!.......2006-11-07

"Circles and Satellites" proves to be an incredible sophomore effort!

If you are looking for a laid back, good ol' rock and roll album like their debut release, do not expect much. However, if you are interested in the growth of the band and the maturity of conceptual music that can be found on this release, then this is perfect for you!

Don't get me wrong. This album is still fun rock music. It's just not in the same style. With this release, the band moves on past the good ol' boys image to more established musicians. The lyrics on this album are sensational, and the lead single "Home" is pure-anthem-material.

Somehow echoing throught the record is a message of "be open to possibilites, be open to change", whether a song actually verbalizes this or not.

Worth the price 100%!

Why has the release for this album been postponed in the UK? This band are worthy of so much more. I had to buy this album as a Japanese Import. Their first album was superb and their second offering is nothing short of brilliant.

Like so many Japanese artists of late (Cornelius, Zoobombs), Boom Boom Satellites take Western music and reinterpret and reinvent it with dizzying results. Boom Boom's stratospheric flights of big-beat frenzy recall Phil Spector producing the Chemical Brothers or deviant computer nerd Aphex Twin jackhammering the funky breakbeats of the Propellerheads. Expanding on the big-beat genre with the occasional punk vocal or fractured dub symphony, Boom Boom make music for the mind, mad soundscapes of cosmic riffing, vicious stereo panning and organic pile-driver beats. On "Push Eject," a Noel Gallagher-esque vocal and a Hendrixy guitar warp intertwine, creating a hallucinogenic sound not unlike that of falling into a bottomless volcano. Instruments blur and collide, only to resurface elsewhere. Titanic, John Bonham-ish beats and ricocheting Moogs fill "Limbo," a gleeful treatise on headphone sex. Free-jazz saxophone and flute play Humpty Dumpty solos in "An Owl," while "Oneness" approximates the Zoobombs' taste for raging Stooges-style punk. Even string quartets are spliced and diced in "On the Painted Desert," a majestic, classical gas for club kids. (Note: listen for the buried radar "ping.") The effects are the icing, but as with most of the global big-beat posse, slamming rhythms are the heart of Boom Boom Satellites, be it a braggart hip-hop bounce or hard-driving funk pummel. That, coupled with the duo's mind-blowing dub treatments, makes Out Loud one of the year's most vital electronica releases. --Ken Micallef

overall a very good album with some outstanding tracks.......2004-02-04

1. Missing Note: Excessively slow to start (every time I want to listen to it I have to fast forward at least a minute), but when it finally gets going from the painfully slow intro it's very dark, deep, and heavy. It's also much too long. Not the best on the album, but something cool and different to come back to now and then. 3/5

2. Batter The Jam No.3: Like Missing Note, it takes a little while to get started, which does hurt it a bit. It would sound good as a shorter song, but it's awfully repetitive and the beats just don't vary enough. 2/5

3. Push Eject: It's not hard to see why this is a popular single, it's an extremely fast-paced breakbeat frenzy with an outstanding guitar solo. Good vocals too, but the english is a little iffy. Still, definitely one of the best on the album. 4/5

4. Limbo: A very good song that is on the slow side, but very catchy and uses some effects from Push Eject nicely without being repetitive. A little long though. 3.5/5

5. Intruder: Very short and fast, it's an outstanding piece with a huge concentration of breakbeats and outstanding drumwork. A prelude to the real meat of the album. One of the best. 5/5

6. An Owl : An extremely well done song, the jazzy effects complement the drumwork creatively. It suffers from being a bit repetitive though. 4/5

7. Oneness: The oddest track on the album, this is essentially a rock song with lots of guitar and heavy vocal work. That said, I didn't like it that much at all. The guitar drowns out the vocals unnecessarily and the track seems overly noisy. Could have been a lot better with some remixing. 2/5

8. Scatterin' Monkey: A song similar to Push Eject in terms of drum effects, it's very heavy on the breakbeats and is quite creative and nonetheless stands out from the other tracks well. 4/5

9. Def: The second best song on the album in my opinion, it's a somewhat slow-tempo song with a lot of vocal work and outstanding drumming. The mixing is perfect, the vocals are haunting and stylish, and the drumwork is extremely well done and varied. 5/5

10. On The Painted Desert: Arguably the best song on the album, it starts off quickly and heavily with loud and slow drums, crashing effects, and then breaks into a violin interlude which gorgeously complements the heavy drums and effects. Very long, but very pretty. 5/5

11. A Moment Of Silence: Feels sort of like a filler, it's not very memorable with weak breakbeats and generic, somewhat uninspired voicework. 2/5

12. Dub Me Crazy Ver.02: Much better than the bonus track before it, this has very very catchy vocals and is an excellent ending to the album. 4/5

Beats That Move You.......2003-05-18

When I first found out about BBS from Ridge Racer V and their song Fogbound, I was instantly hooked. After listening to a few more of their songs, I bought Out Loud and haven't stopped listening to it in 2 days.

It's an amazing mix of some AWESOME drumming (Intruder is possibly the coolest drum solo I've heard), great beats, and some nice singing (such as Push Eject). If you want something you can move to, this is a MUST have.

Too good to miss.......2003-04-23

These guys manage to be new and old at the same time. You think it's 21st century electronica, but it's not, it's freakin' jazz. Jazz as good as any of the luminaries of the last century could manage but with some new instruments, some new techniques, and some new styles thrown in. Okey, it's electronica, and techno, and whatever else you want to call it too but more than anything coming out today (and much of today's techno/electronica could be classified as jazz) this is honest-to-goodness jazz, pushing boundaries and demolishing preconceptions. You listen to some guys with a turntable and a dub machine layer on an ounce of distortion and some FX on a sample and you think you're listening to the cutting edge. You aren't. You listen to these guys and they slice into your brain with a razor sharp beat honed to infinite sharpness. Just listen to "Missing Note" or "Push Eject" or "Oneness" and tell me there is anyone else out there that does anything close to that as well as they do it. Yeah, they're good, they're damned good, and I would advise anyone with real taste in music to give this album a listen.

Truly Innovative.......2002-10-09

The first Boom Boom Satellites song I ever heard was "Push Eject". For me it was something fresh and different, a hard hitting creative song. Eventually I tracked down the "Out Loud" album and I was simply speechless. This is the first electronic-type album I ever purchased as I'm no fan of Crystal Method or Chemical Brothers. The range of emotions and musical styles that this album alone cover are almost limitless. For a debut album, BBS really knew what they were doing. From jazzy to atmospheric and touching on industrial, adding some break-beat, this album is simply a masterpiece of sound. I recommend this to anyone that says they are a fan of music.

Don't listen to the nay-sayers..........2001-03-07

...because there are few and they usually just don't like such varied music. To put it simply, this is a cd which runs through so many different variations that I have not tired of listening to it (and I have about 200 cd's to choose from in my collection). It also is superbly engineered, as is to be expected from most Japanese artists. The sound is top notch, with the intruments and effects creating some superb stereo imagery. If you like music which never sounds the same and is always ready to rouse you into different and varied moods from a unique sonic experience, this is your cd.

2004 Album of the Year!.......2004-12-13

If, like me, you sometimes turn on the radio and wonder if there are any great songwriters anymore, any great vocalists anymore, or any great records anymore...

Then, you owe it to yourself to pick up Garrison Starr's "Airstreams & Satellites" on Vanguard. Garrison is the Real Deal and this CD has it all: wonderful songs with strong melodies, intelligent lyrics, tasteful arrangements, stellar vocal and instrumental performances, and crisp production.

Forget about the music industry's big annual awards shows (which are too often based on sales, popularity, or trends). THIS IS THE RECORD OF THE YEAR!

I first discovered G-Starr doing a solo acoustic set, opening for Melissa Etheridge. I picked up her last CD, "Songs from Take-off to Landing" and was quite impressed to hear that Garrison rocks! The disc was filled with incredible material, sweet, soulful, emotional singing, killer electric guitars, and powerful drums. It clearly demonstrated an emerging artist whom deserved instant stardom. Despite Garrison's young age, there was such a maturity, sensitivity, and depth to her songs that I couldn't imagine anything (even clueless radio programmers) holding her back. "Take-off" was THAT good. A career defining moment. How could she even top it?

Well guess what? She has! "Airstreams & Satellites" is even better!

G-Starr's music runs the gamut of styles: rock 'n roll, pop, Americana, country. The songs are personal and heartfelt. Often the wordplay is clever, even funny. There's an honesty to her work that is rare these days in our cynical, mass-produced, cookie-cutter society of consumers with short-attention spans.

"Airstreams & Satellites" is premium rock music for music lovers with an appreciation for GREAT songs, GREAT vocals, and GREAT instrumentation. Classic stuff. Rock of ages. The kind of record that gets listed on those "stranded on a island, which would you take?" polls.

It is beyond me why an artist as GREAT as Garrison Starr is not more known. I was lucky to see Garrison open for the Sundays ages ago (she was better than them!!!) :)~ I have followed Garrison since the beginning and she has only gotten better. I never thought she could beat "18 Over Me", but man was I wrong. This new CD is AWESOME!!! With women at the forefront of music right now, I think it is a GREAT disservice that this true talent is not a household name. Do yourself a favor....BUY this CD...you won't regret it!!! Avril who?? This is TRUE talent!!!!!!

This is the first album I bought from this artist, and I didn't know much about her. I was blown away by this album it is so good. I would think "that song is great, there is no way the next song is going to be this good". And then the next song WAS as good, and sometimes better! She blends rock with country so smoothly that she is essentially neither, and both! I don't listen to country and I still loved it. She has a wonderful, honest voice and great lyrics. It isn't an album where you snooze through the verses waiting for the catchy chorus--from start to finish the songs are great. I cannot believe she isn't selling millions of this album--she should be on the radio all of the time!! I am definitely going to get more of her music.

One of my favorite CDs of the year.......2004-09-13

I picked up Garrison's previous CD at a live show last year and couldn't get over how good it was. I was thus thrilled to discover that she had a new album out, and rushed out to pick this one up. It didn't disappoint (unlike the latest CDs from some of my other favorite bands). The new crop of songs here is strong, maybe slightly closer to the pop end of the spectrum than "Songs...", but there's plenty of rock in this folk-rock still. Garrison's voice is really shown off here -- I'm so happy to hear a female singer/songwriter belt it out without any breathiness, warbles, or other vocal affectations. She's one of the best out there right now, and here's to hoping that she gets the attention she deserves.

Garrison is a TRUE STARR.......2004-08-12

From the moment I put this CD in and listed to "Gasoline", I was hooked on her voice. The clincher was when I listened to "Like A Drug"...you can't help but sing along to that one! Keep up the great work, GStarr! I look forward to your coming to Indy.
