5 out of 5 stars Needs advisory label "Do not take seriously".......2007-01-16

What's not to love about this album? When I first saw this album with its cheery pink cover&colorful musicians,I thought,"Looks great!" It would be a long time before I got it.

"El Baile Aleman" is a hilarious, campy lounge album perfect for relaxing,writing--or on gloomy days. The opening "Showroom Dummies" is a funny version;I assume it's superior to Kraftwerk's original. It's a joyous cha-cha-cha.It even made its way onto the soundtrack of "Y Tu Mama Tambien." "Trans Europe Express" sounds like a cheery jingle from the '60s--or something from "The Incredibles." "Homecomputer" is a homage to the personal computer, back when it was the new thing--recast as a frothy merengue."Autobahn" is a rollicking cumbia merengue. The closing song,"Music Non Stop" is a cumbia that makes you wish the album were longer (it clocks in at less than an hour)

"El Baile Aleman" is perfect lounge music. It needs the advisory label-do not take seriously--it's meant to be fun!

5 out of 5 stars Senor Coconut... the best... and it's from my country!.......2003-02-13

[...]i'm from chile and since a couple of month i had never heard about Uwe Schmidt (Senor Coconut). I started listening to him and then someone told me that he lived in Santiago, Chile. I bought the record inmediatly (i'm a big Kraftwerk fan). The cd is awesome. Here in chile we do not listen to salsa or rumba or cha cha cha.. that's in the center of america. Here people listen other stuff. This guy is a german person, he married a chilean woman and came to live here. this is a pretty famous guy, but nobody knows him here. it's funny. he started to make this kraftwerk covers, and made an imaginary band "Senor Coconut y su Conjunto". This "conjunto" do not exist. this is only Uwe Schmidt making music here in chile.... well i hope now you know a little bit more about Senor Coconut... [...]!

5 out of 5 stars JUST EXCELLENT..........2003-02-07

Fantastic homage to Kraftwerk by Senor Coconut Y Su Conjunto. Wonderful blend of Latin rythym and electronic music that puts me in a trance. It can be played loud or soft and still work. My favorite picks are "Showroom Dummies" and "Neon Lights". I just love it and will keep an eye on this talented group. Highly recommended. Very highly.

5 out of 5 stars Cool.......2002-10-26

This album is just so cool. I heard this for the first time in my favourite bar where my favourite girl-dj used to play some soft, lounge and just cool music two years ago. She was so sweet and whatever she played it sounded like honey.. erm however..
Tonight I took up this cd and played it again.
To make a long review short. I that know telling you this is an awesome album won't help you at all to get the idea about what this album is like.
However if you read this you're propably a listener with good taste whether it's kraftwerk or salsamusic you like.

Simply put, Senor Coconut's makes some awesome covers of the most famous Kraftwerks titles in a salsa/rumba/samba/whateveritscalledmusic/style.
Kraftwerk is a pioneer group that never goes out of style whatever happens to the musical "trend" and Senor Coconut'just makes something new with a material that's timeless.
The result is both intresting and a pleasure to listen too.
Though it's strongly recommended to be a Kraftwerk fan to appreciate this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Rhomboid, Rhineland Rhumbas.......2002-05-03

Like Moby's Play, this obscure gem is destined to work it's way into the mainstream. The inclusion of Showroom Dummies on the Y Tu Mama Tambien soundtrack has hooked in the loft dwelling, taste makers of Tribeca. Next stop, Volkswagon commercials? Maybe the new Mini.
Get this wonderful reinterpretation of Kraftwerk's music and join in the conga line.

    Album Description

Reissue of the album that made Senor Coconut a household name (sort of). El Baile Alemán was originally released in 2000 On this release, Señor Coconut (Uwe Schmidt, Atom Heart) reworks Kraftwerk with a Latin punch. Although the idea of Latin reworkings of arty German synth music may seem like a novelty, the results are far from it. This is as real as it gets and successfully manages to reinterpret both musical styles while never straying too far away from either. Flawless.

Try to imagine some generic, cheesy Latin lounge music. Got it? Now try taking Kraftwerk's "Showroom Dummies" and cramming it into that genre. Got it? No? Then you have to listen to this album. In fact, you can listen to Señor Coconut's version of "Showroom Dummies" and a few of the others tracks from this album, since the band's made them available on the internet (just type "Señor Coconut showroom dummies" into Google, and you'll find it). I highly recommend it. Because, even though this is pretty much a gimmick, the music is still rather enjoyable. Rather very enjoyable.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Entertaining and Fun.......2007-07-11

When I first looked at the cd cover, and heard the concept, a man and band decided to cover Kraftwerk songs in a Latin/salsa style, I was skeptical. But then, I heard this cd. And it works! The best songs on here are "Transeurope Express" and "Tour de France". The album is kicky and upbeat and loaded with xylephones. It's a fun cd to play during a party. I recommend it to those who would like to hear something different and fun. It's entertaining all the way through.

    4 out of 5 stars Fun!.......2007-02-13

This is a fun and silly CD...if yoou like Latin music and Kraftwerk you will love it!

5 out of 5 stars An Ultra-Salsa Lounge Take on Kraftwerk.......2007-01-13

When I saw this album several yrs ago,the cheery pink cover&colorfully costumed musicians intrigued me.Even the title "Senor Coconut:El Baile Aleman" sounded---fun.

Senor Coconut's "El Baile Aleman" is reminiscent of Esquivel, the "space age" lounge music of the '60s;it's a campy tribute. However, this time Senor Coconut takes the New Wave '80s music of Kraftwerk&turns it into salsa lounge. It's a case of the remix being superior to the original.

The opening number "Showroom Dummies" is hilarious, cheekily done as a cha-cha-cha."Trans Europe Express" is a cumbia."Autobahn" is punctuated with car noises."Homecomputer" has the song about being "cast into the future" set to a merengue beat."Tour de France" sounds like a '60s advertising jingle--or something from "The Incredibles" with its retro beat."The Man Machine" is rhythmic&fun.

"El Baile Aleman" is a perfect introduction to European lounge music,electro-salsa,or even Kraftwerk. It's a happy album that will put a smile on your face!

Kraftwerk Cover Tunes with Latin Rhythms

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars This guy is a real genius.......2001-05-23

By using different styles of Latino rhytms, sounds and intruments, he made a new sense to old songs... the original song spirit is preserved, and you easily recognize which songs are emulated after a few beats, but the sound is something really new. A must.

    5 out of 5 stars Truly interesting.......2001-03-16

This is one of the very few interesting Kraftwerk interpretations. It really shows that their songs are not genre-bound, but timeless classics of minimalist songwriting. As a previous reviewer suggested, the album would have been even better if they had used Spanish lyrics.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic cover versions.......2000-04-17

I was half-expecting some kind of pathetic cheesy exotica, butwas thankfully disappointed; this is in fact real, cool'get-up-and-dance' latino music -- which just happens to be featuring Kraftwerk's songs throughout. My only regret is that they always sang the English versions of lyrics, whereas maybe some translations into Spanish would have made the songs even more unique. It's amazing how the various instruments (including vibes, congas and other percussion, as well as a brass section and accordion) are able to evoke the originals whilst remaining authentically latin -- Showroom Dummies, Trans Europe Express, Neon Lights, Autobahn and Tour de France are particularly notable. The careful use of stereo separation helps as well. There's also the occasional humourous touch, such as at the start of Autobahn: Sound of a car engine starting up, spluttering to a stop, then trying again and again; the driver then gets out and walks off, muttering in Spanish... As one of the quotes on the back cover states: "The best interpretations of Kraftwerk classics I have ever heard!"
