Beautiful, Beautiful Music! Great Remastering Job too!.......2005-08-20
I don't have the whole albums but judging this particular cd on its own merits, I'd say that this is definitely a keeper! The remastering was very well done and the sound quality is very, very good. I liked this so much that I chose the first track to be the opening track for my wedding reception cd that I compiled 3 years ago.
Although the tracks are arrangements of other people's work unlike Chicago which uses its own material, I'm not too bothered about that so long as the arrangements are either better than the original or put a whole new artistic twist on them. Both cases are true here in this great compilation album.
With the resurgence of Michael Buble and the swing time music these days, maybe it's time B,S & T got some more airtime as well? No dud tracks here at all and I'm glad that fortune smiled on me a few years back and dropped this cd on my lap.
Wanna get one cd that's representative of the band? You can't go wrong with this! It's made me so very happy for some time now.
Greatest Hits, but not the Greatest Cuts from the Albums.......2005-07-01
The selections on this CD are fine if you want only the Top 40 versions rather than the definitive album versions. "Spinning Wheel" for example, fades out just as the end instrumentals start to get interesting.
Although this is a good choice for those seeking an inexpensive introduction to the group, I would recommend the albums. Virtually all of the tracks on the albums (especially "The Child is Father to the Man" and the self-titled "Blood, Sweat & Tears") are excellent and the mastering is (in my opinion) much better.

If I had to pronounce myself by one the most original bands of the eighties "Tears for fears" should be included even in the list of the most exigent hard fans of those ages.
They knew to combine the accurate balance between expression and sentiment, keeping in mind the vast audiences. So his musical balance allowed them to maintain the required presence and personality to achieve a special place among the great bands.
A must- have for any serious collector.

Most artists who appeal to adult listeners tend to settle into a comfortable niche, but Lucinda Williams refuses to play it safe. Instead, her music stings like an open wound, as she continues to strip away the protective layers from her art's emotional core. Though Williams has long been prized for the naked honesty of her music, this collection is even rawer than its predecessors. From the down-and-dirty bar-band blues of "Atonement" to the Rolling Stones-style swagger of "Bleeding Fingers" to the tricky balance of debasement and transcendence in "Ventura," Williams leaves the nerve endings of her music exposed. With the band opting for first-take immediacy rather than polish, some of the most powerful material is also the neediest, as the singer addresses lovers who have disrespected her ("Righteously") or abandoned her ("Those Three Days," "Minneapolis"). Though her attempts at rap on "Sweet Side" and "American Dream" might cause diehard fans to wince, her willingness to take creative chances reaffirms her position at the vanguard of a rootsy progressivism that transcends musical category. Simply put, there's more Patti Smith in her than there is Patsy Cline. --Don McLeeseCustomer Reviews:

World Without Tears..........2007-05-10
Our songstress handles the lead vocals, and strums along on acoustic guitar; Doug Pettibone plays electric guitars and the mandolin on two songs, Taras Prodaniuk prods the Bass, and Jim Christie tickles the drums, vox organ, and Wurlitzer.
Running times for the tracks on World Without... are more uniform than on Essence; nine of thirteen songs on this album clock in at over four minutes, rendering this record more radio friendly than her preceding album.
Long songs like Atonement and People Talkin' are more boisterous, energetic and spare than we're used to hearing from Lucinda Williams; her technically proficient band shines here, but these two songs aren't lyrically the strongest.
Dedicated fans will want to know that World Without... was recorded at Real Music Studios in Los Angeles, California, during 2003. The genius of this album lies in reduction -- fewer instruments, fewer players, stronger vocals.
Wonderful tunes like Fruits Of My Labor (Track One) borrow `sweet baby' phrases from previous hits such as Essence while highlighting pensive harmonica and purloined purple imagery evocative of early songs by the fantastic Prince.
One would think that Righteously (Track Two) wouldn't work because it features Williams singing mock rap style, but she pulls it off winningly while name dropping John Coltrane. This song has a nice erotic edge to it.
Track three -- Ventura -- is emotionally gorgeous; I'd like to hear Bonnie Raitt cover it. Real Live Bleeding Fingers (Track Four) is an old-fashioned bar song, a barn burner evoking dissolute rocker Kurt Cobain.
Everybody will like Those Three Days (Track Six) since the singers's booming voice drives home the chorus and acquiesces to a mesmerizing electric guitar solo. I didn't enjoy Atonement (Track Seven) as much, but that's my preference.
After Atonement winds down, you'll adore Sweet Side (Track Eight) which Williams purges mock rap style -- from the male point of view -- in polar opposition to track two. Sounded vaguely like early Lone Justice.
Rather than being distracted by tracks two and eight, one should focus on Minneapolis (Track Nine) -- which is lyrically complex and vibrant -- since it's more representative of the album's overall mood.
Since I'm wrapping up, I'll close by saying World Without Tears (Track Twelve) is the most melancholy song Lucinda has ever written. Lastly, the masculine stand up bass on Words Fell (Track Thirteen) is worth appreciating.

A cult band with immortal creative breadth!.......2006-12-05
Blood sweat and tears was one these bands anointed by that special ability to conquer your spirit and mood. Music that simply mocks about the small hands of the time and the conventionalism of the fashion.
What else may I add? . Acquire this album due it's part of the vertiginous sixties.
BS&T Fan.......2006-11-04
Just so absolutely fine.......2006-08-10
Starting of with French composer Eric Satie's "Gymnopédies", first introduced very much as written from the composers hand, but then `twisted' in a nice and imaginary way, with some great writing for horns, and I guess this is the key point to this album; they take other peoples compositions and turn them into their own, in a very personal and imaginary way. I would actually go so far as to say that they beat the originals, but of course this is a matter of taste.
To me there is no doubt; this is their finest moment, the most inspiring and soulful outlet of them all. This is also the first album with singer David Clayton-Thomas and what a singer. I think this is a great album the way through and what an eye-opener it must have been, completely new and fresh, and the best thing is; it still sounds fresh. The only little thing that I can criticize is the second last track called Blues-part 2. Is has a great and very interesting organ intro, which builds up to a climax where horns finally enter, but then right away cuts into a drum/bass groove, which is a bit of an anticlimax, and the rest of this song is virtually different ideas spliced together, contra a homogeneous composition. (this is one out of three compositions of their own hand, the other two being "Spinning Wheel" and "Sometimes in Winter"). But that cannot take anything away from this album as a whole, which is just full of great songs arranged in such an irresistible way. Check this out!!!
Another end-of-the-sixties classic.......2006-07-09
BS&T as a group shares some of the same elements as another end-of-the sixties classic album, Chicago Transit Authority, by having a large number of band members, with a horn section and bluesy, jazzy rich sound. However, the sum of the parts produces a different outcome for each band.
There some covers on this album ("Smiling Phases", "God Bless The Child", "And When I Die", "You've Made Me So Very Happy") and I believe they surpass the originals in every case.
I like "More and More" a lot, so the extra track of it is indeed a bonus. However, the expanded "Smiling Phases" is no match for the shorter version, though it's still interesting on its own.
This album is the second from the band, after kicking out founder Al Kooper and replacing him with David Clayton-Thomas who has a deeper richer sound.
It's an indispensible representation of the end of the sixties, but you also have to get the first BS&T album, "Child Is Father To The Man", which has a different slant and is no less impressive.
A slight comedown from the debut but still very good.......2006-07-07
HIGHLIGHTS:
The opener from the band is "Variations on a Theme", a feather light adaptation of the 1st movement of Erik Satie's pastoral "Trois Gymnopedies" giving way to the phase-shifting blustery charging brass of the 2nd movement and nicely preparing you for the cover of Traffic's "Smiling Phases". Another reviewer rightly pegged "And When I Die" as the finest moment here and they're correct as the band incorporates elements of country, jazz, blues, and a touch of showtunes into a seamless whole that's more than the sum of its parts. Every transition feels natural. "Spinning Wheel" is a psych-tinged jazz-rock classic, playfully spinning children's tune "Have You Ever Seen a Lassie?" into its coda even as the carousel slowly breaks down into the denouement. Great stuff.
LOWS:
"Smiling Phases" is great in the neat, compact version heard as track 2. The live cut is a different story as the band attempts to show you their "chops" and instead careens wildly to and fro, losing all track of the melody in the process. This band was at its best when its jazziness was an inflection rather than attempts at improvisation and the bloat there only proves this is the case. Sprawl is also the problem with "Blues, Pt. 2" which only recovers about halfway through when vocalist Clayton-Thomas enters the picture but by then it's too late. Had this not been a letdown, the reprise of "Variations" might prove a masterstroke but it feels a bit anticlimactic to me in this context.
BOTTOM LINE:
Still better than your average rock album. Worth owning and definitely one of their better efforts but I'd pick up CHILD IS FATHER TO THE MAN (ASIN B00004XSVL) first as it holds together better as a complete album and is an underrated treasure of the 60s.
3 1/2 stars

Disc 1: 60 minutes
Disc 2: 50 minutes
Disc 3: 61 minutes
Disc 4: 58 minutes
What gives Silva? There is *MUCH* more John Williams in the silva screen back catalogue by the Prague Philharmonic than what is in this set, and thats not including their entire discs devoted to Star Wars Films, Indiana Jones Trilogy etc. Why isn't Hook "When You're Alone" included on Disc 2? There's room. Why isn't 1941 on Disc 1? There's room. Why isn't Earthquake on Disc 3? There's room. Why isn't Far and Away on disc 4? There's room. Where's the other ten minutes of the Rare Breed suite on disc 3? Why isn't Midway on disc 1? Where are the Land of the Giants, Time Tunnel and Lots In Space tv themes? Etc. Etc. Etc.
C'mon Silva, most of these 4 disc mega boxes released in the past few years are packed to the brim, but not this one, and with new recordings made after this was released (the terminal, munich, geisha, war of the worlds, star wars ep 3, harry potter 3), it only makes sense for a "re-do" in the next couple of years.
Further, with Silva releasing the 100 Greatest Film Themes on six discs in a couple of months, it's only a matter of time before we see the ultimate six disc john williams set.
This isn't a BAD set to own, but it could have been much better and when compared to the Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry sets in this same series, this one is a major letdown.

This is what its really about.......2007-05-02
Other favs of mine on the cd "Head over Heels", "Listen" and "I Believe". Also of note the remix for Shout is almost 2 minutes longer than the original version and makes the song that much better as well. As if that would even be possible. Also enjoyed "Mothers Talk" remix as well brings the song into a different light. I didnt however care for the other bonus tracks 9 through 13, something just felt seriously off with those songs. But that aside this cd still gets a 5 star rating from me..why? It does what most artists can't do bring you very quality music at no comprise to the artist making it in this case Tears for Fears. You guys own!!
Amazon sent me this title with a big scratch on it !.......2007-02-19
scratch on the cover. Shameful. Didnt the person who put this
cd in the box notice it ? I cant believe they sent me this CD like this.
Maybee in the future you should look at the condition of the stuff
when you send it to me !
Anyway, on to CD itself. SONGS FROM THE BIG CHAIR BY TEARS FOR FEARS.
This album contains their three big hits. EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE
WORLD, SHOUT, AND HEAD OVER HEELS. Those three are the ones that made this
group a household name. THE WORKING HOUR is a great song. Very emotional.
I also liked MOTHERS TALK and BROKEN. Both those songs are rockers.
I BELIEVE is a nice ballad. LISTEN is above average. 8 songs on this
album, plus additional bonus songs. Among the bonus tracks, THE MAURADERS
is a catchy tune, the remix' of SHOUT and BROKEN are cool. THE BIG CHAIR
is a waste. Its just noise and a bunch of sounds.
This is a great album, Very enjoyable. If you are a Tears For Fears
die hard fan or a new fan, buy this. It has their three biggest hits.
AND AMAZON, DONT SEND ME CD'S WITH BIG SCRATCHES ON THEM. IF SOMETHING HAS
A BIG SCRATCH, GET ME A CD THAT DOESNT !

But this is the real McCoy. A groundbreaking stunner. Had it not been for Kooper's vision, that second BS&T album could never have happened. This was the child that was father to the man. Though it has escaped grandiose status for almost 40 years, it is a stone cold classic.

This was, of course, a huge sleeper in its day. Unlike the later Clayton-Thomas BST album, this one produced no "Top Ten" played hits. However, as a concept album it was great, and as one which paved the way for white-boy blues, it was something really new.
We loved them more than they'd ever know...and hey, look closely at the album cover. Take it from me - this was WAY before Photoshop.

Tears For Fears - Moral Lesson.......2006-09-14
The opener and title track is a great pop song and at the same time a good introduction to what is coming, it's about children suffering without anyone noticing or caring. Tears for Fears trademark was mixing good pop with serious subjects and they really succeeded with that. "Mad World" was one of the big hits and recently covered by Gary Jules and taken back to the charts again as the sountrack for "Donnie Darko". The moody alternative song brings up the sad reality we're living in, a world without rules or morals and the people suffering from it. Excellent and haunting ballad. "Pale Shelter" was originally released in 1982 but failed to make it big on the charts, so the song was re-recorded, remixed and re-released and the result was a big hit even for "Pale Shelter". The song is slow paced and distinct with guitars, synthesizers and percussion. It brings up the lack of love some children get cause of bad parenthood. "Ideas As Opiates" is almost minimalistic, it basically only feauture percussion and slow piano sound, the lyrics are also sparse. "Memories Fade" is also a stripped and melancholy song, with it's haunting lyrics and saxophone it's one of this album's highlights.
"Suffer Them Children" is a synth laden pop song about children with problems growing up cause they're ignored and not given too much love. Watch Me Bleed" got very strong lyrics "Heaven comes to he who waits/ But I know Im getting nowhere/ And all the deeds of yesterday
/Have really helped to pave my way" and is overall another great pop/rock song. "Change" was one of three big hits on this album, it got a trademark marimba sound and a great hook which paved the way to the charts. The song is focusing on the destructive behavior of a loved one. "The Prisoner" is the darkest of songs with some very strong lyrics and arrangements suited for a horror film, the lyrics are sparse and they're almost whispered. The last song is called "Start of a Breakdown" feautures a catchy synthesizer sound and meliodic percussion. Why this song was not released as single is beyond me, but it's one of the best songs. This remastered version feauture remixed of Pale Shelter", "Mad World" and "Change and the non-album song "The Way You Are" is present. It's another fantastic song by the way. Uptempo with great percussion arrangements. Nice it was added.
Overall, Tears for Fears magnificient debut was one of the most daring and thoughtful albums of the 80's. It's equally intellegent and beautiful full of good lyrics and great arrangements. With this remastered version you get better sound + bonus tracks and the non album song "The Way You Are". Some of the songs may sounds a little dated today, considering all the new equipment used in today's music, but the lyrics and subjects they brought up are just as present in today's society. This album may get a little too personal and the lyrics get frightening when you listen closely to them at times, however if you're a music fan that likes smart lyrics and lyrics that make sense then this is something for you. It's a concept album and it very thoughtful and sincere. One of the greatest debuts of the 80's, let alone albums.

Album Description
Kendel Carson - she's a name, voice and fiddler/violinist who will indeed be remembered from a first listen to Rearview Mirror Tears, her delightful and alluring debut album on Train Wreck Records, produced by Chip Taylor. Already a musical veteran at age 22, she's been capturing ears and wowing audiences across her native Canada and around the globe with her prodigious talent and luminescent aura since she joined her first musical group at nine years old. So it's no surprise that Rearview Mirror Tears sounds like the assured work of a veteran artist, rich with an uncanny and winning familiarity, seducing listeners to spin it again and again. After all, it's the work of a true artistic natural whose soul is suffused with music, and then on Rearview Mirror Tears is paired with another equally musical soul, master songwriter Chip Taylor, composer of such indelible classics as "Wild Thing" and "Angel of the Morning" and éminence grise of Americana music and the contemporary folk-rock and singer-songwriter scenes. It's a collaboration that at first glance may seem like a seasoned veteran mentoring a gifted protégé, but the album soon reveals something else at work that's even more vibrant and exciting. The way Carson inhabits the album's songs with a full, rich presence and stamps her identity into the music with her vocals and playing tells a different tale: An artistic union of two friends and kindred musical souls. There's a spirit and life that pervades Rearview Mirror Tears that can only come between two talents in prime form enjoying their creativity in full flow. Carson was all but destined to make memorable music from birth. Growing up in Victoria, British Columbia, she began playing violin at the tender age of three. Carson ascended to the upper reaches of the Canadian classical music world while still young, appearing as a featured guest soloist with the Victoria Symphony and later joining the National Youth Orchestra of Canada. At the same time as she was achieving mastery as a violinist, Carson also became immersed in the vibrant Canadian folk scene as a fiddler, first with the BC Fiddle Orchestra and then with her brother Tyler as The Carsons, later to become the group Kid Carson. Her collaborative nature also later landed her in the Juno-winning roots music band The Paperboys, with whom she quickly became a notable member on their most recent album, The Road to Ellenside. Her duet with lead singer Tom Landa, "Fall Down With You," was the first video single from the disc and hit #4 on Canada's MuchMoreMusic video channel. After first meeting her in 2004, Taylor began offering Carson long-distance encouragement and guidance in the months that followed. With Taylor in his most prolific and inspired state within an already prolific and inspired career, their creative alliance bloomed. By the time they hit the studio for a couple of days of recording in 2006, magic wasn't just in the air but in fact captured on the tracks they quickly laid down. On Rearview Mirror Tears, they create an album of music that feels like it was not just meant to be, but ready to emerge and capture the ears of the world at large. With an organic ambience of natural artistry in unfettered flow, the sessions became an album by an artist in first full flowering. Ranging with ease and engaging charm through a variety of roots music modes and emotional and musical moods, Rearview Mirror Tears is one of those exceptional creations that feels memorable and meaningful from its very first notes. So even though Taylor wears such hats on Rearview Mirror Tears as producer, songwriter, singer and record label, his true role was ultimately encouraging Carson, a fellow talent and peer (despite any age difference), to become who she is and all that she is able to become. And as Taylor sees it, it's ultimately Carson's artistic capacities rather than his own that makes Rearview Mirror Tears all that it is. For Carson, her delectably winning debut album is one of those pivotal artistic and life lessons whose rewards will inform everything to come along her already lengthy and fulfilling musical journey that is sure to continue for some time to come.Customer Reviews:

No More Tears Ozzy O........2007-03-12
It's about his recovery.......2007-01-12
"Road to Nowhere" summarizes a moral inventory Ozzy takes during his recovery days. While cryptic, the guilt and shame he expresses is balls-out honest and well put.
In "I Don't Want to Change the World," he sets his boundaries with religious hypocrites. But what stands out is his own relationship with God.
If you're expecting Sabbath, "Blizzard," or "Diary," put your expectations away. This album is unique, yet still light years ahead of so many more albums out there. As is to be expected with every album by Ozzy and band.
