Sizzling disc One, Fizzling disc Two.......2004-07-03

Nova Latino is a series dedicated to the nu-brazil and nu-latin tunes. But they emphasis Brazil... big time. The series is mixed by Stephane De Lucia and spans 4 volumes, each with two discs. But this is one of the more commercial releases, therefor you won't have any exclusive cuts.

CD 1 is definitely the stronger of the two, although it had a questionable start. When I see De-Phazz, I think more of martini madness and Euro lounge. And "So Com Voce" has been grossly overplayed and used in comps of all sorts. But it picks up right after with a cool bossa cut by Bobby Brazil that'll transport you to early 80's Brazil, followed up with the underrated DJ Cam and his hit off of Trip Do Brasil called "Birds Also Sing for Anamaria" - sort of a pun from the classic Marcos Valle cut. Right afterwards you get a smooth Samba by Luigi Ladu & Margarita Gonzalez. If you're a fan of the Bossa Nostra & Bruna Lopez cut "Apocalypse", you'll love this song. My favorite tune of CD1 is the soulful Incognito track... amazing. CD2 has some gems too - most notably Marc De Clive-Lowe's "Day By Day" and songs by Eli Goulart, Mo Horizon's and La Taverne Du Lac's track. But it's not as strong as the first and most of the songs can be found on strong compilations.

Still, you've got two sun drenched discs with cool tunes, featuring a fantastic disc 1. As always, BE CAREFUL of overlap, especially if you're into the Rio Lounge series. Further, if you want to hear what's really new, and what Nova Latino and the others will be doing this summer, check out Brazilectro 6 which has a funkier vibe than the other Brazilectros, Brazilution which is still class and finally a cd titled Brazilation (its not related to the Lectro/Lution series). But if you haven't heard any of those three series, this'll give you a nice intro to what the scene's about.
