1 out of 5 stars Not much of a Disney Princess CD!.......2006-05-04

Well, Disney has done this again... How can this thing earn money?
Only "Kiss the Girl" "Reflection" and "Once Upon a Dream" are favorites. It was so strange that "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" which was from "The Lion King" was in this album. This was not from a Disney Princess Movie! And why the song from "Aladdin & the King of Thieves" can be recorded in a Disney Princess album?
I love Disney Princess very much, and I love listening to the wonderful and sweet voices of the Princesses, for example, Ariel, Belle and Pocahontas, even Mulan. Well, where are the songs of the Princesses? And I don't like the songs from "Cinderella-2: Dreams Come True", I think they wouldn't be so terrible if there were no classic Princess songs as reference substance!
This album is really unworthy. It was neither fit for adults nor children, even a Disney fan won't love this. This album might make Disney fans and your kid disappointed, even angry. We want to listen to REAL Disney Princess songs! What we want is not this confusing album. I hope that there won't be any Disney Favoties albums like this. It's really disappointing. I have to say this even though it's not nice: If you buy this, you might be taken in by this. Save your money to buy other better off Disney albums!

5 out of 5 stars The Real Reason to Get This CD.......2005-12-31

I'm going to say it right now --- this CD is good. It's very good. If you're looking for true "Disney princess" tracks and you don't consider Cinderella II, Aladdin and the King of Thieves or Mulan/Lion King to count, then stop now. But it seems like most people are basing their opinions on the sorts of songs they expected from the CD, rather than what's actually on it.

The CD begins with "I Won't Say (I'm in Love)" by Meg(ara) from Disney's "Hercules." This is one of my favorite Disney movies and this is an excellent track. Meg tries to deny her feelings for Hercules, before finally sort of admitting that she is in love.

Next is "Belle" from "Beauty and the Beast." A wonderful tune of dreams and romance that was nominated for an Academy Award.

Who doesn't enjoy "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" Featuring funny bits by Timon and Pumbaa, excellent harmonies and singing by both Simba and Nala.

"If I Can't Love Her" is from the stage show of "Beauty and the Beast." It's my least favorite track on the CD, but it's still fairly decent and interesting to hear for those who haven't seen this stage show.

"Reflection" is from "Mulan" and I consider it to be possibly be the best track from that movie. Is Mulan is a Disney princess? Well, you can debate that all you want --- I suppose at this point, she's royalty, so I guess she counts.

"Out of Thin Air" is my favorite song "Aladdin and the King of Thieves." Aladdin and Jasmine sing about what it would be like for Aladdin to finally find his father. Jasmine tells Aladdin that he doesn't just come out of thin air. The music on this recalls "A Whole New World" for me.

"Kiss the Girl" is from "The Little Mermaid." It's not my favorite song from that movie --- I would have preferred "Part of Your World." But it'll do all right. And it can't be said that Ariel isn't a Disney princess --- after all, she does marry Prince Eric.

"Once Upon a Dream" is a classic! It's from "Sleeping Beauty." Sure, the little kiddies today may not entirely appreciate this, but I think it's wonderful that they would include a classic like this.

Now, part of the reason for this CD's release was to have a place for the music from the Disney "Cindrella" sequel "Cindrella II." Yes, this is a direct-to-DVD release, but it's a good one. This CD is the only place to find these excellent songs, all performed by Brooke Allison. They also all (except the last one) follow a theme of "being yourself:"

"Follow Your Heart" is about a time when Cinderella was assigned to the preparations for the royal ball. She was given all sorts of instructions, such as not opening the curtains and not inviting commoners in. Finally, she decided to just do things her own way. A lively, upbeat, positive theme.

"The World Is Looking Up To" is about the mouse Jaq and when he decides to become human. Another fun track about being yourself.

"It's What's Inside That Counts" comes from when Cinderella's stepsister Anastasia fell in love. She thought she'd get all dolled up, but learned that she can be loved just for being her.

Finally, "Put It Together" is a wonderfully fun techno remix of the classic "Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo." I was surprised this works, but it does, splendidly.

So if you're looking for a Disney CD with great music and are willing to look past any preconceived ideas, then snap this CD up.

1 out of 5 stars Another Repackaging Of Princess Favorites.......2004-04-21

When is Disney ever going to realize that recycling Disney Princess songs aren't such a good idea? As a Disney Princess fan since I was really little I have always enjoyed Disney princess songs. But i am so so so so sick and tired about on just about every Disney album dedicated solely to the Disney Princesses Disney always always ALWAYS has a habit of recycling old princess songs instead of adding new princess songs. I mean people already own half the songs on Princess Favorites and can buy them on the film soundtracks or the Disney princess collection cd. Why I think this cd was released is that Disney was trying to promote the movie Cinderella II Dreams Come True as the songs from that movie are on this cd. But heck one of the songs Put it Together is also on the SUPERSTAR HITS cd. So while this cd may be a redone version of Princess Collection Volume #2 please Please Please PLEASE do not buy,
Thank you very much for your time

2 out of 5 stars Whose Princess Favorites???.......2003-10-15

I would classify only 3 of the songs on this CD as Princess Favorites - Belle, Kiss The Girl and Once Upon A Dream. The rest are either not Princess songs or not favorites.

My daughter is a huge Disney Princess fan, and wants to hear the songs from the Princess movies non-stop. She's only 3, but she does know her princesses, and the girl from Hercules and Nala from the Lion King are definitely NOT princesses! This is also the first time that I've seen Mulan grouped with the princesses.

We wanted music from the classic Disney Princess movies that she loves - Cinderella, Snow White, Beauty & The Beast, Sleeping Beauty, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid. I do not put Cinderella 2 and Aladdin and the Forty Thieves in that category - were those even released in the theaters, or direct to video?

I am generally a fan of the Disney compilations, but this one feels like a marketing rip-off. Get the Disney Classics 5 CD set if you really want the Princess Favorites - they may be spread out over all the discs, but they are the songs you want to hear!

1 out of 5 stars Save your money!.......2002-04-30

A friend gave this CD to my little girl for her 5th birthday...she was thrilled to get it. The thrill ended as soon as it was played. She wanted to know where the Princesses were.
There is no Ariel...just a song by Sebastian. No Cinderella, no Snow White, and why would they place an unknown song from the Broadway musical Beauty and the Beast which only has been heard by the people attending the musical?? At least Sleeping Beauty made the grade. My daughter has the movie Cinderella II which the CD promotes, but is not familiar with them to really enjoy these 4 songs.
Again, save your money...some day maybe Disney will set aside some of their money and marketing hunger and put out a CD that any 5 year old princess will enjoy singing along with...BTW isn't Beauty and the Beast being re-released...oh yea, thats why that endless song about Belle is on there..Bon Jour!

5 out of 5 stars Disney Always Rocks.......2005-09-29

Yeah looks like it's a great get, if you haven't already got every CD by disney. Didn't know the song You'll be In my Hear was a Tarzan track. Must be a spin off to You'll be in My Heart. Its all good.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome collection!.......2003-10-19

I have to say, that with a 5 year old who is obsessed with the movies that these songs go with, it has made the perfect gift! She spends hours listening to this CD while doing more productive activities than sitting in front of a TV watching the movie. The songs are special to her because of the movies, and she actually does her schoolwork well with these fun songs playing. As a music lover and a Disney lover, we both agree at 5 and 30 that this is a hit.

5 out of 5 stars For adult listeners, the Disney songs sung by "real" singers.......2003-07-22

Trivia Challenge: Included in the 16 tracks on "Disney's Superstar Hits" is the only song from a Disney film to hit #1 on the Billboard Pop Charts. See if you can remember which one it is before I give the answer away at the end. No peaking ahead.

The songs collected on "Disney's Superstar Hits" are mostly from the 1990s; there is "Once Upon a Time in New York City" from way back in 1988 from "Oliver and Company" and a few songs from the 21st century. But the only golden oldie is "Put It Together (Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo)," which comes from "Cinderella II" and not the original. The obvious frame of reference would be to see this collection as representing the Disney Renaissance ushered in by the Alan Menken/Howrad Ashman era, which makes it strange that nothing from "Little Mermaid" is included. But the common denominator to this collection is that the songs are not sung by the characters from these films, or, more properly, the people who did the voices for the characters. So instead of Angela Landsbury doing "Beauty and the Beast" it is Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson.

There are several songs from the less than stellar direct to video Disney sequels, such as "The Hunchback of Notre Dame II," "The Lion King II: Return to Pride Rock," "and "Cinderella II," which would be a minor complaint. But Tina Turner sings one of the songs, so it is hard to complain. In fact, the strength of this collection is indeed the superstar singers. Most of them are blasts from the past such as Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Phil Collins, Sting, Huey Lewis, and Randy Newsman, but there is also new blood such as Christina Aguilera, Sarah McLachlan, Vanessa Williams, and even Jennifer Love Hewitt. Peabo Bryson comes out ahead, with the aforementioned "Beauty and the Beast" and another duet, "A Whole New World" with Regina Belle.

This disc is perfect for grown ups, who like the "real" singers singing the best songs from the Disney movies their kids have been dragging them to for the past decade. Vanessa William's "Colors of the Wind" is my personal favorite, although it is hard not to recall the fantastic opening of "The Lion King" when you hear Elton John do "Circle of Life." On the fun side of the ledger I like Randy Newman and Lyle Lovett working their collective ways through "You've Got a Friend in Me" a bit more than Jimmy Cliff and Lebo M's "Hakuna Matata."

Trivia Answer: "A Whole New World" was #1 on the Billboard Pop Chart for one week starting on March 6, 1993. It is the song that replaced Whitney Houston's cover of Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You" after 14 weeks on top.

4 out of 5 stars Good CD.......2002-12-29

This is a great CD, but I was kind of disappointed that there weren't more tracks on it. Other than that, you and your kids will be singing along in the car for sure.

Alors, quelle delice! Each of these remixes exposes and builds upon much of the imagination that lies beneath the sassiest of Serge's oeuvre. They add to the originals and are executed with taste and style. Highly recommended for Serge lovers.

I love Serge and was pleased to add this album of techno-Serge remixes to my collection. The different artists behind each of these songs are obviously big Serge fans and these remixes all seem like they are labors of love.

Some of the tracks are very good, Lola Rastaquoere, for example. Others (like New York, USA) were disappointing to me.

If you love Serge too you will enjoy having this in your collection.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Um, not very pleasing.......2001-07-05

Yea it was quite disappointing to hear the remixes playing from the cd. It seems that they have messed up the beatiful melodies of the original songs... Sex sea and the sun's okay but all the others are a bit, unbearable. It's tender to hear Jane moaning in J'taime moi non plus, but I found it irritating to hear her screaming in climax in one of the other songs. Most of the remixes have too much "unnesscary sounds"!

4 out of 5 stars A musical cloud of Gitanes smoke.......2001-06-23

Two thumbs up for this CD of some of Serge's finest hits, remixed by international dance-y types. Howie B, Bob Sinclair, The Orb, and Dhizan & Kamien are only a few of the high points. A must-own for any serious Serge fan.

Overall a nice collection of tracks but far from the 12" singles that have been known from this label. Nice to collect oldies, but not for true collectors.

5 out of 5 stars No Disappointment.......2000-10-23

This is one of the best compilation CD's I've seen representing the 80's techno pop genre. There are 3 CD's, each about 70 minutes long. Most of the songs are in their complete 12" extended form. Included are some of the most danced songs from the clubs of the 80's. Songs like: "Blue Monday", "Smalltown Boy", "Relax" brought techno pop to the forefront of dance music. There are a lot of songs that are difficult to find like the seductive, "Outside Looking In", by Dream Sequence and "The Night", by Azul Y Negro. Personal bests of the collection are the songs by: B. Movie, Belouis Some, Cabaret Voltaire, and Spandau Ballet (a beautiful, powerful dance ballad!!) If you enjoyed the music of the early to mid 80's with an emphasis on dance then this this the perfect 3 CD compilation. Also in the collection is the "I Love Disco" available in Volumes 1,2, and 3. Each volume contains 3 CD's each.

    5 out of 5 stars A new wave 12" collector's dream..........2005-09-06

From the label that brings us the 80s eurodance series "I Love Disco" comes volume 2 of I Love Techno Pop. Nearly void of any of the eurodisco that fills most of the I Love Disco series, this 3 disc set contains nearly all 12" versions of huge new wave acts-some not exactly techno pop, such as the Knack and The Clash. Some of these tracks are really hard to find on CD, including Rock Me Amadeus, which was originally on Falco's long out of print CD in its full 8 minute version, and Love is a Shield by Camouflage. Plus, the Vince Clark/Feargal Sharkey single Never Never in its 12" format. The most obscure stuff on this disc comes is on disc 3, of which most people wll recognize only a few of the artists. Check out volume one also, which has even more new wave classics. Track times:

Southern California's Kid 606 seems quite happy with his persona of iconoclast and audio terrorist but not so much so that he's going to get stuck doing the same thing for the rest of his life. P.S. I Love You is his deepest foray into the realm of melody to date, although he hasn't exactly gotten mellow. Untempted by the metronomic 4/4 grooves that often characterize even the most radically experimental techno, for the first five tracks Kid 606 prefers jagged syncopation and crackly digital textures. Track 5, "Sometimes," heads out for territory that could almost be called ambient--a beatless cloud of sound like a massive electronic Aeolian harp. Following that is the Porter Ricks-flavored "Now I Wanna Be Cowboy" and then it's back to the abstract extra crunchy style for "Sonqizzover," cognate in sound and nomenclature to "Sonqizzmaster" from the Clicks and Cuts compilation. His existing fans are certainly going to want to keep in step with this phase of his evolution, and those who consider much of his output the equivalent of having someone shout in your ear may be pleasantly surprised. -Bob Bannister

3 out of 5 stars accomplished yet slightly empty.......2006-02-08

First of all, i must admit im not a great fan of kid 606, but im guessing as many people are drawn to this by the Mille Plateuax label as the artist. it certainly fits in with the rest of the catalogue. It's odd- i've been underwhelmed by the sound of a few MP releases before this- stuff like sturm or some Gas records which sounded far more conventional in reality than in my head. This album however sounds exactly how you would hope an MP release should. But that's essentially it's problem. you know the anecdote about the painter who fails because he paints like an art lover. Kid 606 is exactly that towards glitchy electronic ambience. there's very much the sense of a genre album, not because of the restricted sound sources, it just seems that there's no frame of reference outside of 'Intelligent dance music'.Early Mouse on mars had their miniturist musical box aesthetic, Oval have elements of drone rock e.t.c. Here, drone and fuzz are utilised as a different sound to disguise a fairly derivitive take on Warp style ambient/beatsy trickery. textures of scraping and static are transformed into subtle beats, fuzz becomes melody, all the great sonic tricks are here, but without much magic. Its the classicisation of the form. If you want a definition of glitch electronica look no further. If you want to be truly moved by fragile, oddly emotive abstract electronica that uses the sounds of decaying/disobediant technology in a mindchangingly brilliant way, pick up oval, microstoria, jan jelinek, fennesz, autechere, pan sonic e.t.c. If you want subtle glissening ambience with amazing beats, try squarepusher, early u-ziq e.t.c. if you want something heartbreakingly beautiful with interesting electronics, try early mouse on mars, Mum, So (a collaboraton between Oval and a folky japanese singer songwriter), early boards of canada e.t.c. Or if you like Kid 606's more hectic stuff, try Generation Star Wars by Alec Empire or Wagon Christ. But this is one album you'll probably enjoy but never be moved by, listen to when it's on but never take off the shelf.

3 out of 5 stars Kid 606 grows up. Unfortunately........2003-12-20

This CD is a severe departure from the typical Kid606 sound I have grown accustomed to. Gone are the drill'n bass mash ups, mindbending computer glitches, and the irreverent sense of humor. In its place are the twitterings of any other "click-house" album. Not to say this is bad, it's just not that good either. "P.S." isn't exactly something new, I remember hearing it when it was Vladislav Delay, Andreas Tillander, or any of the Mille Plateaux roster. Disappointing.

    4 out of 5 stars super glitch.......2002-10-18

i love how every kid 606 release has a unique flavour: this is no exception. "P.S. I Love You" is in the vein of minimal, house style glitch; rife with ambience, pops and clicks so spacious one could drive a truck between them.

Very interesting in an experimental dance-floor kind of way, but not quite the in-yer-face-out-there, a-new-sound-a-second Kid 606 we are used to on releases like "GQ on the EQ" or "Down With the Scene".

It is definitely the alternative for people tired of good old Oakey and wish to hear actual craft and thought put into moving the crowd.

5 out of 5 stars Try this in headphones.......2002-02-07

Best release by the kid. To begin with i liked 'Down With The Scene' better but this is internal sounds. Oh - the creapiest/scariest song ever - the last track on this cd, got me really scared, really. This piece should be listened to in headphones at least once

5 out of 5 stars sonic shifts to savor.......2001-07-19

Anyone who would like to discredit kid 606 for this album and it's great musicality has to be insane. It proves not only is he a powerbook master, but he is also maturing beyond the juvenile "down with the scene" which was a great album, but not as stylized, nor developed as PS I love you. Opinions mean nothing. This is a great listen by a great artist.
