Product Description
Via his residencies at Manchester’s Legends, and The Hacienda, Greg Wilson introduced black electronic dance music to the UK. Working with just two Technics turntables, a Revox reel to reel tape deck and a stanley knife Greg (literally) cut-up a series of stunning one off DJ re-edits, each exclusive to his dance-floors. These edits virtually wrote the rulebook for DJ’s, re-mixers and producers growing up and going out in early 80s Britain. This career defining anthology, released to coincide with his recent return to the clubs, showcases Greg’s ‘80’s edit style and how this cut up approach influenced everyone from Fatboy Slim & Coldcut to today’s stars such as Optimo (Espacio) & 2 Many DJ’s.

4 out of 5 stars They Don't Make 'Em Like This Anymore...Literally.......2006-10-15

When you hear Greg Wilson's ace track selection - Scritti Politti, Chaka, Mr. Blue, Chic, and many more - you cannot help but tape your toe and nod your head - when you realize that legendary DJ/remixer Wilson originally made many of these custom "edits" using knife, tape, and a whole lot of sweat and tears, it's just all that more inspiring! These are much more than mere edits or extensions, these are bedroom rocker reinventions of dance/disco/funk classics. A must-have for any dance music historian worth its weight in gold. Classic traxx, insightful liner notes, snazzy packaging - nice stuff!

5 out of 5 stars The master strikes, and, boy, am I smilin' now.......2005-12-05

You may go through this once or even twice, thinking, hmm, okay. Keep going. Soon you'll be smiling widely, your shoulders pointin' at each beat, your head nodding more vigorously as you go, your smile widening even more as you realize that Greg Wilson is a master at the sublime edit. It's Sunday, nearly 12 hours after I started work, under deadline pressure. This CD has been spinning for about four hours straight now, and I'm more into it each time through. I don't really want to leave work, typing away to the beat and funk guitar..smilin', still smilin'...still.... Giving credit to Greg for the edit doesn't begin to do justice to what I owe him. You, too, soon, I hope. The natural high is hard to get sometimes, and this CD slides in under the cynicism, the fatigue, the jadedness, the same-o sameness of so much new stuff. And it delivers. Oh, I'm...still...smilin'....
