DJ Ravin – Buddha Bar
"…Bass, Sweat & Tears is a magical and lovely journey, a great album, I love it!..."

Product Description
Bass, Sweat & Tears is Gaudi’s fifth solo album and the long awaited follow up to his 2000 release Earthbound. It is an organic fusion of dub and nu-beat with a global mix of influences. It is inspired by native cultures from around the world and takes the listener on a journey from Burkina Faso to Iran, Pakistan and Northern India; from Papua New Guinea and the Amazon rain forest to Italy and Spain. Bass, Sweat & Tears is an evocative, deep and elegant work in which indigenous themes and global beats contrast and compliment each other.

The key undertaking in Gaudi’s work is to unify different forms of music from around the world and represent them in his own personal style, while at the same time, keeping the heart and significance of the cultural roots. Bass, Sweat & Tears has been three and a half years in the making and in that time Gaudi has worked with and recorded a total of 42 musicians from across the world, making this album an original and quality production. His experience and expertise as a producer and artist is not only in evidence in this album but also in his live performances. With his band, the ‘Gaudi Live Dub Laboratory’, an eclectic and multi-instrumental quartet plus guests, he performs tracks from Bass, Sweat & Tears as well as other new and unreleased material.

      Product Description

Man, this album rocks. The new work by The Beautiful Mothers, titled Half American Serviceman, is great from start to finish. Produced by Jack Endino and released independently by the band, this band takes off from the start. A lot of bands are starting to experiment outside the normal 4/4 time signature, but few bands can do it and still rock. The Beautiful Mothers are one of these bands. It doesn’t matter if they are playing in 3/3 or 5/4, you are bobbing your head to the rock. Every song on this album is good, and that is rare these days, and there is nothing out there that sounds like it.

      5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2004-08-10

I have never written an amazon review before but after hearing this Cd I had to write one. I am a long time drum and base and jazz fan so I was extremely delighted to discover James Hardway. This is truly one of the most mature and sophisticated works I have heard in a very long time. He takes this assemblage of styles to another level, it's downtempo, electronic with out being "trancy" with a beautiful blend of live instruments. I can't believe It took me so long to discover this CD. I was drawn to it through my love of a group called KOOP and a free (and totaly legal) download site called epitonic.com. Since KOOP only has two CDs and I could not get enough of them, I began a search for more of this kind of downtempo DB/jazz and I am very excited to have found JAMES HARDWAY and I can not wait to hear more of it.- defiantly 5 stars.

      5 out of 5 stars THAT'S WHY I CHOOSE...THE HARDWAY!!!.......2003-12-18

James Hardway has changed the face of Drum n' Bass as we know it by incorporating catchy live jazz solos, bossa nova and stunning vocals from Amanda Ghost. Indeed, it's Ghost's swanky 60s a go-go torchlight singing that sets "A Positve Sweat" apart from the other D&B albums of 2000--just check her out on "Grow", "Pulling Weeds", "Sleep Tonight" and "Lament." Even Hardway tries his hand at singing on "Go On"! All in all, "A Positive Sweat" is a terrific CD with GREAT songs--it's what made me an avid James Hardway fan in the first place!

5 out of 5 stars JAMES HARDWAY KICKS A--!.......2000-04-26

THIS IS THE BEST DRUM N' BASS CD I'VE HEARD SINCE GOLDIE'S "TIMELESS". HARDWAY MIXES THIS GENRE WITH ACID JAZZ VERY WELL. CLASSIC TRACKS: "BOSSNOVA" & "GO ON". IMAGINE HARDWAY AND GOLDIE WORKING TOGETHER=OH, WHAT A TEAM THAT WOULD BE!

      5 out of 5 stars have a pair of back-up shorts ready.......2000-03-14

If you like a little drum 'n bass with your jazz, then there's no one better than James Hardway. I pretty much agree with the guy above me, except I DID give this five stars, because that's a rating I reserve for things that just absolutely make me geek out (I don't care what it may or may not do for the "scene"). Unlike the last reviewer, I am a long-time fan of Hardway, and I must tell you that if you see ANYTHING bearing the name, then pick it up right away, even if you have no cash and have to give a kidney in trade. Even if you don't like the music, the guy's back is covered in those cool Yakuza-style tattoos and he sports Hawaiian shirts and linen suits...you have to give a guy props for that. This music just fills my head up with ideas, for stories, situations, characters, settings, and especially visual imagery. Sleazy imagery. Anything that sets your brain on fire like this does is well worth the money. Not recommended for those who think reading USA Today qualifies them as an intellectual, or who really really liked "My Best Friend's Wedding".

4 out of 5 stars this is better than the more well known D&B.......2000-03-06

This album is a great surprise...I bought it after seeing it in a Barnes and Noble (not known for its cutting edge anything) and it was on a listening station there...I put it on because the label said "Gorgeous Jazzy Drum and Bass"...I was immediately hooked...This is a great find...Hardway is better than more well known D&B artists (dare I say Goldie)...he makes music which is so organic and lovely that if enough people got this thing I think it would truly be the bridge between D&B and the mainstream...it is also a great jazz album in its own right...buy it, please and give this guy his due...there are also some great female vocals on this which will ignite your soul as well as some just great electronica which lovers of the SourceLab compilations will appreciate...The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because I save that rating for truly groundbreaking work, and while this is not that it is nevertheless spectacular...there is simply not one wrong note on this album.

5 out of 5 stars Great single, great song.......2007-03-21

This is the re-release single of the song "bleed american", Jimmy eat world changed the name secondary to the events of the year 2001, mainly 9-11, which acutally occured at the time this single was due to be released. Yet the Song is unchanged, and still rocks. Included is the video of Bleed american and the song Splash, turn, Twist which is actually the bonus song included on the UK and Japaneese releases of the full album. Dropped from this re-release was the demo version of the athourity song. Still a great item though. Check this single out.

5 out of 5 stars Lame Name Game Dept.......2005-09-17

This song and the album it comes from were originally titled "Bleed American." Due to the political climate in 2001, the year it was released, the album quietly became self-titled and the song became "Salt Sweat Sugar." Come on. Are musicians with credibility an endangered species? Lame, guys. Really lame. It is still a good song, though.
