    Album Description

"Goodbye Kirkwood Drive" is an autobiographical album - a perfect musical representation of lead singer Bennett Cale's metamorphosis from heartbreak to redemption. It unfolds like a novel you cuddle up to read and don't put down until the last page is turned. "Goodbye Kirkwood Drive" is a unique blend of originality and familiarity. Using graceful melodies melded with classic storytelling lyrics, Cale transports the listener back in time. In the tradition of great albums from the sixties and seventies, "Goodbye Kirkwood Drive" offers an uncensored look into the life of an artist. With impeccable musicianship, Cale shares himself in an honest, unaffected way. From the breakdown of his relationship, "saw your ghost out in the hall, staring down at me watching me fall" ("Green Chair") to healing, "but now there's light where it was dark inside" ("This Time Around"), Cale tells his story of redemption with delicate ballads and memorable rock anthems. A final and hidden treasure on the album is the sound of Cale's actual footsteps on the barren hardwood floors as he walks out of his house for the last time.

    5 out of 5 stars Bennett Rocks!.......2004-09-15

I am not one who usually does this, my best friend is a lot better at it then I am, but Bennett defanetly deserves the word being spread.

Bennetts musics is phenominal! I cant say enough about it. I hadn't heard of them until I saw them live... right there and then they hooked me in (which it will do to anyone who sees them live!). There is so much of Bennett in this music, but at the same time, its something that can reach to a variety of people. The "extras" in the cd are great as well. "Notions of Gold"(which is an extra) is one of my favorite songs on the CD... the harmony and sound in this song is absolutley amazing. But the harmony and music in all the songs are great and so wonderful! This is a defanet addition to any library, especially for a music lover like me!

5 out of 5 stars Very good listen - nice addition to your collection.......2004-08-21

Well, I'm not used to writing these things, but I have to pass the good word.

I live in Los Angeles, CA, and you see lots of bands come and go, but these guys really stand out, and prompted my purchase. I hope to see more of them and more albums to come!

Original sound, full of passion, depth, and range.

Let me describe some of the songs

Song 1, "Kirkland Drive" -- It will be their hit, kind of sounds like a mix between Lennon/Beatles, with lyrics that stick in your head; an anthem that sets the tone.

"Groove with You" - can someone say, chill and hang.

The next couple songs I feel are like 3 song mediation. "Green Chair" - poetic and lyrics that bring you sullen images of lonely, yearning thoughts, bringing you down into another space. Have you ever lost someone? The next song, "As my Love", kind of explains it and brings you through the discourse -- sad song and as the song says, "It ain't so easy in this empty room...".

"Stride" full of courage and triumph. "But I do", I don't know why, but reminds me of Velvet Underground.

When I heard the woman singing on "I know I'm Right", I had to know her name. Angelic voice in such a fun song. (She wasn't at the concert I went to) ah shucks. My favorite morning song!

"This Time Around" - Flange sound, dark, mysterious, vicious -- I remembered this from the concert. Crank it up! Excellent!

"California" - Mellow, nice song -- reminds me of the Eagles.

I don't know what else to say. It's just a great listen altogether. I recommend it.

    5 out of 5 stars Such a great sound!.......2004-08-14

There wasn't one song that I did not like. I liked them all. The album is really good. The album has variety. New music with clear passionate vocals creates a unique signature of his own saying to me he's got that "THING" - that special thing that lasts and lasts. It's golden and alive. I like this sound! The sound is full and moving, emotional and bonding. The musicianship is top of the line; I can tell they really loved doing this album. The album pulls the music styles from the 70's and 80's together with a fresh new sound. Bennett's vocals and music, the band and really good songwriting create a much needed change in the music industry. The trend is writing good songs like the old days past, when artists had a unique sound created by music, vocals and most importantly, the song. He's a trend-setter on the rise. As a songwriter myself, his music on this album makes me want to write again.

The pulse of "Kirkwood Drive" is fun, and the lyrics are so memorable. The music is "I-want-to-sing-along-with-you-every-time-I-hear-it" music. That's just what everyone will do with they hear this one. I also hear as a soundtrack song for film or a TV show theme song, even a commercial.

"Groove with You" and "I Know I'm Right" remind me of Al Green and the Spinners because of the guitar, piano, organ and drums. It'll have you rockin' your head and
    dancing in your seat.

The song "Green Chair" starts out like a folk song with the vocal and guitar, and then breaks into a rock-edge backdrop. It was like being on a highway riding as the sun comes up breaking into your world, brightening your world and you.

"As My Love" reminds me of Prince and that sound from that time. His vocals fully express what the song is saying. Bennett has a real honesty in his vocals and guitar playing that comes through with each song.

"But I Do" has got a sound that is a mix of Steely Dan, George Benson and Bennett and friends. I like the groove and the words.

"Between You and Me," "This Time Around" and "California" are really good songs also. They have that "Hotel California" feel to them and we all know how big that song was and that it is still being played and covered.

"Built This Road" is so powerful, expressing how hard it is to let go, as does "As My Love" and "Green Chair," but each song is different. What are appealing are the many ways and reasons for letting go and how. The words are fresh and moving. The guitar and vocals are so good.

I love the ending song - it makes you want more, like, "Hey wait! Is that it? Is there more? I want to hear more!!"

3 out of 5 stars Bruce and the ring........2006-11-06

The basic track sound is great (I'm referring to game of death) but, differently from the orignal version you can listen in the Bruce Lee's movie, they added the sound of a bell (it souds like a triangle) which rings along all the traks and impede you to really enjoy them!

4 out of 5 stars Game of Death:5, Night Games:0.......2005-03-21

Well...to keep it short & sweet, I've been a Bruce Lee addict since the 2nd-3rd grade, and while Game of Death wasn't a REAL Bruce Lee flick, the motion picture score really made up for the absence of Lee in 20th Century Fox's version of Game of Death, keeping the focus on the action as opposed to the obvious snippets from past Bruce Lee flicks and the UNCONVINCING double.LOL! But as it relates to the 2003 soundtrack reissue, it's all about tracks 1-11, I love the Game of Death theme, the fight themes(particularly the stick fight with Dan Inosanto), and WILL THIS BE THE SONG I'LL BE SINGING TOMORROW is addictive for life. Beyond the 1st 11 tracks are tunes from Night Games, a movie I've never seen or heard of...so I seldom listen through all of those. However, the ONE reason I didn't give the album a 5 is because they left out the Bruce Lee yell that was supposed to start the opening track. But overall, the GODeath sdtk is a classic.

5 out of 5 stars "film music genius and composer extraordinare ~ John Barry".......2003-10-11

There is no disappointment in this latest performance from John Barry ~ "Game of Death" and "Night Games", both on Silva America label with brilliant remastering by Rick Clark. The composer John Barry arranged and conducted this masterful score from not to be forgotten Bruce Lee film. Both films can be relived from a passionate and compelling soundtrack that reaches down into the pit of your very soul, as only Barry can do!

Entire album has all the ingredients within every cue to recapture the moments from the screen to the listener at hand ~ found this score to be haunting and deeply suspenseful. Barry's score will transport you into significant areas of your mind which transcend into loving and exciting feelings through his signature style. Sonic quality is outstanding ~ just take a listen and be enticed with "WILL THIS BE THE SONG I'LL BE SINGING TOMORROW", both instrumental and vocal tracks are worth a "film-score-buffs" attention and then some.

Opening track is a delicious composition "THE LESBIAN TANGO", from "Night Games", great solo violinist takes you into a latin ballroom filled with beautiful ladies that will make your heart flutter ~ followed by "WATER SPORTS/THE DOMINATRIX'S WALTZ", typical Barry counterpoints give you a sensation of drifting into the stratosphere ~ let the waltz begin as main theme counter melodies bring harmonious orchestra sections into full swing...gotta love it!

Hats off to Silva America, James Fitzpatrick and David Stoner (album release supervisors), Reynold da Silva (executive producer) and of course the legendary composer, conductor and producer ~ John Barry.

This is a CD of songs that were not necessarily hits by Eddie, except "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye", and yet he sings them the same way he has sung every thing else he's done, in a straightforward and very enjoyable way. This is a good CD and very enjoyable. He was just a good singer, particularly in the 60's and 70's, but always he has been a good singer.

STEPS have done it again! Put together the two best songs that complement each other so well... When I Said Goodbye is the saddest most emotional song in the world. With only Claire and H singing, and a piano and orchestra backing them, it's beautiful. And Summer of Love is totally the opposite. A dancy, latin-type song that is sure to make you wanna dance. And the remix is funky too! Buy it!

4 out of 5 stars ever since i lost imagination.........2004-09-12

Armin Van Buuren Presents Perpetuous Dreamer's The Sound Of Goodbye is a song I recall being a radio hit in my area a few years ago. I was pleased since it was one of the few exposures to trance that people got in the city. It's still a favorite of mine as well. On this single, the Above & Beyond Club Mix is my favorite version. The synths are catchy and Elles de Graaf's lyrics/vocal complement it perfectly. The radio version was most likely an edit of this mix.

Also, get the Armin's Tribal Feel Dub, which is on the German CD-Maxi. It's a tie between that and the A&B version as to my favorite mix.

5 out of 5 stars Best single I've heard in years!.......2003-06-09

The haunting refrain "Sometimes ... the sound of goodbye ... is louder than .... any drumbeat" will echo and reverberate in your consciousness for years to come!

5 out of 5 stars Great trance song from Europe........2002-08-13

This cd is the original 2001 release and doesn't have the Robbie Rivera mix(not sure where to find that mix)but not to fear it is still worth the money. The track from the mind of Armin Van Buuren and features lead vocals by Elles de Graaf that are quite distant in feeling. The cd features 2 remixes of varying trance/house degrees. The first remix is the Above and Beyond Club mix(7:14) that is the more european trance mix of the two. Very well done and is also garnering some club play in the US but trance mixes don't command DJ's respect here as they do in Europe. Then the second mix is Armin Van Buuren's Tribal Feel Vocal mix(8:45) that is more agressive trance with some tribal sounds thrown in for great effect. Some critics find fault with the icy feel to the lead vocals but it worked for me. Originally released in 1998 but picked up from Europe by Nervous in America in 2001 but finally topping Billboard's Club chart in 2002 it shows that this song is this good to survive and hit 4 years after it's original release.

4 out of 5 stars lots of great music here, although a majority of the album recycles tracks from Gates' first two solo albums.......2005-06-27

The "Goodbye Girl" LP from David Gates came out in June of 1978 (after Bread's second breakup), and I want to point out right off the bat that the majority of this album is a retrospective release, recycling tracks from Gates' previous two solo albums (1973's "First"; and 1975's "Never Let Her Go" aka "Second"). I'd have to imagine that many hardcore Gates/ Bread fans were a bit dismayed with this move at the time. The title track was used as the title song for the Neil Simon-scripted 1977 movie "The Goodbye Girl"; it was also released as a single in November of '77, hitting the US top 20, and it seems likely that this album was released in attempt to cash in on that success despite Gates being a little short on new material. Plus, maybe Gates was trying to give some tracks from his first 2 albums a new 'lease on life' since the albums were commercial disappointments.

The first four tracks on "Goodbye Girl" are all among the ones which hadn't yet appeared on a David Gates LP, and they're pretty much all terrific. The title track, though a tiny bit rote, is still a lovely melodic ballad in Gates' patented dreamy soft rock style. The next track is even better--the top 30 hit "Took The Last Train", co-written by Larry Knechtel, was released as a single basically in conjunction with the album, and it's a superb track that's ultra-catchy with an infectious bass riff, jazzy piano, a great groove, and the lyrics are a lot of fun as are Gates' spirited vocals. The haunting, incisive story-song "Overnight Sensation" is a brilliant epic ballad, and "California Lady" is a super catchy revved-up rocker. Following this is the first 'repeat' track with "Ann", and then comes the last two of the new songs--the fiddle-laced "Drifter" is catchy and nicely bittersweet; and the Creedence Clearwater Revival-styled "He Don't Know How To Love You" is respectable.

The album's running time is over 48 minutes, so if you see this on CD and don't have any of the 'repeated' tracks in your collection already, it's a great deal simply taken on its own terms--you'll be supplied with other terrific songs such as "Clouds", "Lorilee", "Part-Time Love", & "Never Let Her Go".

Don't make the mistake of overlooking David Gates' solo career. His "Never Let Her Go" album, although never released on CD to my knowledge, is a must for any self-respecting Gates fan. Also, although 1979's "Falling In Love Again" and 1981's "Take Me Now" both failed to reach the US top 200, each of them are for the most part irresistible albums that blow away almost every Bread album in terms of consistent excellence.
