History? Ok - but bland.......2006-12-17

History of Trance is not Acosta's good pieces. I really liked Acosta with the release of 'touched' even as people describe the CD quality as being poor. Wit this mix, though, I am begining to feel as if he is just winging it. granted I am more tuned to the harder and progressive style trance, Acosta's newer trance mixes seem generic and bland. Jon Secadas song is ruined with Acostas mix. I though this song would be killer, instead it is a generic beat, (which tries to sound'hard') behind Secada's wonderful song. Not terrible, but too bad.

A Nice Collection.......2006-03-09

As a relative newcomer to the genre, I find this collection useful, easy to listen to, and enjoyable. While I am not an expert in this style, I do believe that this is a solid collection and recommend it to anyone who wants to have at his or her disposal a variety of Trance material.

Dont you get it?.......2006-02-12

For those who say this doesn't sound like george. LOOOOKKK AT The TITLE. He did a wonderful job of hitting the high spots of Trance Music and its history. This is one of the few cd's thats has the listenability that you can keep in your cd changer for months without taking out.

There is even some anthems that i missed and i have been into trance since 95.

All in all this cd is exactly what it says "The History of Trance".

Buy,Enjoy and thank me later.;-)

Bad title.......2005-11-20

I don't know if you could really call this a history when it's more of a chronicle of a specific point in time. Namely in and around 1998. Regardless of the name, it still is a pretty good mix. Numerous hits make up the content mixed together by George Acosta, who doesn't necessarily shine in this one. Anyone familiar with the dj's work would agree with me that this compilation doesn't feel like him. In fact, if you didn't know any better you would just assume it was some unknown dj doing their job at some club...back in and around 1998. It's great for parties when you want some background music or when you just wanna hear a nice collection of great "classics"...of, or around, 1998. Most definitely not a history though.

Mediocre,not at all what I expected.......2005-05-10

When I first heard this was coming out,I was overjoyed because anything by Acosta is usually nothing but the best.In this case,however;I was dissapointed because this is rather dull and boring material(with the exception of a few songs.)Cd 1 is super bland ,having only 2 or 3 good songs towards the end.Cd 2 has about 4 or 5 including the awesome "Just Another Day"remix with John Secada.To begin with,trance anthems are for newbies and way too commercialized.Commercial crap =ATB,New Tiesto,etc.Sadly it seems as if Acosta rushed to get this on store shelves.Dont buy this unless you are a newbie,Acosta has plenty of other good albums like "Awake and "Lost World."

Not bad, but could be better!.......2006-10-29

There are alot of wasteful compilations out there that percieve dance as techno. Also why is it alot of the good techno really hard to find. Basically all the good stuff is spread across so many compilations but it gets to be really hard to find because alot of the bad tracks get puts in so many compilations. Like this cd for instance only 3 - 5 really good tracks on this album & the rest is basically garbage. If this was a really good compilation it would probably still be in production. But sadly alot of the great tracks get left unknown. Like 'Rave the Rhythm (original)' or a version i havnt heard of 'Poing' by Poing, which later on gets done by Rotterdam Termination Source, an awesome remix. But songs like 'Move any mountain' needs to stay off of compilations like this one. We need better compilations. Hopefully that will change soon.

I LOVE this song...yes, song. This album is so seamlessly put together that unless you watch the tracks changing on the cd player, it sounds like one huge song of awesome trance. Great for driving long distances!

Very Surprising Release.......2001-11-04

"Brief History of Trance" mixed by Paul Kershaw is nothing short of a well done CD. The mixing is fluid and the playlist is golden. There are some GREAT songs on here that I haven't heard on most other Trance compilations, e.g. the fantastic masterpiece "Blue Lagoon (Bervoets & De Goeli Rmx)" by Nudge & Shouter which still remains as one of my favorite tracks in this genre. "Brief History" is compiled with old favorites and newer songs with potential. If you enjoy upbeat Progressive Trance and loved Paul Oakenfold's "Tranceport," this is right up your alley.

Quite a shock for all those who haven't heard of Paul Kershaw. Let's hope he releases more.

Some of the CDs sounds more trance/rave than techno the further the discs progress. Hard to believe none of the pioneers (atkins, saunderson, mills...were included in this "history of techno" compilation).

One of the best Techno-Compilations ever released.......1998-10-07

In my opinion this is a very good set of techno music, specially for those who do not really like the fundamentalistic hardcore-techno-beats. As i have been watching the development of techno from an underground style to some kind of mainstream-oriented dancefloor, this cd-set could lead you through the times. Visitors of the 1998 love parade in berlin will confirm: techno's best times are over. ("They never come back")
