This is an incredible album of trip-hop, acid jazz, funk and ambient cuts by one of the best duos in chill-out! All "weird" song titles aside, Fila Brazillia delivers the dam to the river--chilling you out one minute and making you drop it like it's hot the next! Another amazing accomplishment from the true "kings of chill-out"!

....is one of the best instrumental pieces of music i have ever heard...the rest is pretty damn good too!

Looser and more dangerous that its predecessors.......2001-02-06

If you're new to Fila Brazillia, I suggest "Maim That Tune" instead as a starting place, but if you already know what you're getting into, this is the place to be. All Fila releases take a little time to "grok" and this one took me longer than most -- but the musical reward is in direct proportion to the effort.

The fifth installment of the Fila-B World Domination Tour finds them really stretching out and enjoying their art. The boys are experimenting more with the textures of "live" sounds and instrumentation, and playing faster and looser with their funk-jazz-soul signature sound. The Fila M.O. is still there -- rump-shaking simplicity disguising jazzy complexity -- but instead of bringing it to you on a platter, this time they're asking you to meet them half way. Arrangements and melodies are more complex and multi-layered, and overall selection reflects more stylistic variety.

Fans of Kruder & Dorfmeister should dive right in!

You know, I bought 4 Fila CD's at once from here, and this one was one of them. This CD will not dissapoint you. some excellent grooves and remarkable musicianship is present here. I give it 4 stars coz it is a difficult album compared to Maim that Tune. However, I highly recommend it !!!

Fila Brazillia conquer down-tempo.......1999-03-06

Fila Brazillia's fifth album, "Luck Be A Weirdo Tonight," is perhaps their most difficult album. But if it is difficult, it is only because it is dense and full of idea after idea. This is personally my favorite Fila Brazillia album. It exhibits a confidence in musicianship and production, as well as the abundant talent and skill to bring their ideas to life. Repeated listens reward one well here, as well as one's undivided attention. However, once you've felt the album out well enough with your neurons, "Luck" is a great mood-setter, ideal for hang-outs and intimate affairs. The first half of the album is an endlessly evolving jazz jam, with flashes of melody, harmony, and dissonance, that create a dynamic interchange of sounds and context. Truly dreamy music. The second half opens up more in its structure, beginning with the smooth "Pollo De Palo" with its pensive bass-line, moody horns and animating drums. The next track is the beautiful "Heat Death of the Universe," combing the listener's soul with depths of atmosphere, a melancholy guitar, and a hopeful and musing synth-melody. One of my favorite pieces ever. Onto the next and final part of this stunning trio, "Weasel Out The Muck." Moving through 60's funk-soul, this chilled affair twists with rich sounds placed at perfect moments to evoke attention and emotion, a classic bassline, a guitar licking that speaks of tank-music from Vietnam, and an unfolding texture-melody that spills out of the air. Amazing. "Luck Be A Weirdo Tonight" ends with the chill-out dub of "Do The Hale-Bopp," bringing the listener slowly down to earth. This album is a landmark, and further testimony to Fila Brazillia's unwavering brilliance. They just keep on coming, with more and more ideas. Essential.

A masterpiece of downtempo beats and tripped out tracks laced with a progressive rhythmic bliss. A must have for anyone with the acquired ear for innovative and beautifully orchestrated music. Consider yourself lucky to have found this tribute to the enlightened late night and lazy days. Through this album Fila Brazilia takes music to the next evolutionary level. Enjoy.
