The Impala is just a stone's throw from the Champs Elysees in Paris & is popular for the exotic dishes on the menu. It's a most convivial place to meet friends & raise glasses together. The resident DJ's cast nightly spells over the patrons, enticing them into an aural journey with music from mother Africa as well as the new world. Afro beats mix with jazz & new electronica as well as progressive house. This set captures the essence of a visit to one of the most unique places in the world.

5 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS ALBUM.......2002-10-05

This is a great album with lots of music. If you don't like one song - hit forward cause' you'll love the next. I actually bought this album after my trip to Paris, and was expecting something totally different. This album is something that you have to sit down and listen to for the first time. Once you get your bearing, turn it up and dance. My favorite tracks are by the Freakniks - The bass and drum beats in this album should not be ignored. Turn it up so your neighbors can hear!

3 out of 5 stars Afro Music Lounge.......2001-11-30

I expected this album to have many electronic and trendy afro beats... Actually, no, not really.

No new tracks even though it is released in 2001. Old stuff even dated to 1972. However, those older songs are better and more stylish than contemporary ones in this album. There are few very nice songs in this double CD album. Rest are average.

Maybe it is meant for a lounge and background afro music suitable for dining in an European restaurant and you won't need to really listen to the songs carefully.

5 out of 5 stars The African House Groove via Paris.......2001-07-04

This is finally the point where traditional African music meets modern techno and sounds good. I wish they would open an Impala Lounge here in Chicago. It must be one partyin' joint. The Kerri Chandler track is fierce. It has to be the tightest house mix Afro-beat. It had everyone at a recent party at my pad doing tribal dancing they didn't even know they could do. the whole CD has so many differnent textures of African music. I hope Impala Lounge will do this in volumes forever. Keep it comming. Ase O

5 out of 5 stars Africa, Paris,.......2001-06-29

Finally a balanced blending of African rhythms, modern tech and house without losing the real African vibe. With time I think the world will get used to the African house thing. African rhythm is the driving force behind most dance music anyway.

5 out of 5 stars A Grooving Surprise!!.......2004-09-04

Being a fan of Six Degrees Records and their amazing compilations, such as "African Travels," I came across this 2 CD set at a used CD store. I recognized a couple of the artists here, so I took a chance and bought it. It has since become one of my most played albums. The first tracks on each disc are absolutely addictive ("Le Serpent," with its amazing percussion, and "Right Here in Front Of You," with its amazing message), and it remains solid throughout. Having read online about the Impala Lounge in Paris, I would love to see one in the States, a place where lovers of great African grooves could gather and pay tribute to the birthplace of all music. If they really wanna make those ipod commercials hip, they take one of the songs from this album and watch the listener get down!!!!
