Elton John doesn't seem like a natural choice to write for a Disney musical, but he rose to the task on The Lion King, transcending his usual penchant for the softest of soft rock. Sir Elton's collaboration with Tim Rice (former writing partner of Andrew Lloyd Webber) helps connect the soundtrack to the theatrical lineage of all Disney musicals--so much so that, like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King was eventually adapted for Broadway. Undistinguished songs like "Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" are far outnumbered by stirring, stately tunes that lent the film so much of its sense of pageant and play. --John Sanchez

4 out of 5 stars fun but flawed.......2007-05-07

in 1994, the lion king came out and broke records. the film itself took in an astounding 312 million dollars in the us. that makes it the highest grossing hand-drawn animated feature EVER (an accomplishment that will never be toppled since niether disney nor dreamworks is producing hand drawn features any more). that year at the oscars it also won two awards for the musical score and best original song (three of its songs were nominated0. so how does the music really stand up compared to other disney features.

first off there's hans zimmer's score. his score is both powerful and moving. it brilliantly incorperates elements of local african music (provided and arranged by lebo m) these elements give it a great feeling of belonging not only to the film but to it's setting. without these tribal elements the score would have been far less compeling. one small problem is when the score abandons these elementsl; they're not carried through in all of the music. but its not enough to be a real distraction. the power of the score allows the listener to feel the wildabeast charging or smell the rain falling during the monsoon or experience the brilliance of the circle of life.

SCORE 5 out of 5

the songs had music by elton john and lyrics by tim rice. the following is a song-by-song breakdown.

THE CIRCLE OF LIFE - this is a great opening number with powerful vocals provided by carmen twillie and impressive african-inspired vocals in the beggining by lebo m. with the actual film, this is not only a moving but inspiring piece of cinema. even without, this is a great song that still gives me goose-bumps. this definately warranted its oscar nomination
5 out of 5

I JUST CAN'T WAIT TO BE KING - this is a really fun song by simba and nala along with zazu. its infectious beat and lyrics definately leave u humming. this may not be the most memorable song, but it definately captures the youth and innocence of simba at this point
5 out of 5

BE PREPARED - this is scar's big number so to speak. it features the hyenas in a very dark yet memorable song. the rhaspy vocals and wonderful musical arrangements make this a great piece that is both eery and impressive.
5 out of 5

HAKUNA MATATA - this is the second oscar nominated song, and although its fun buddy type number, it does get old and doesnt really age as well as the rest. this is honostly one of the weakest songs, believe it or not, its good but just cant really hold up to the other stronger pieces.
4 out of 5

CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE TONIGHT - here it is, 1994's oscar winner for best original song. honostly i feel that the circle of life deserved that award, but here's the song that got it. the film's version is very romantic, especially for featuring a couple of lions, timon and pumba's parts are funny, but it is simba and nala's portion that takes it home. btw elton john's version at the end is a definate winner.
5 out of 5

SONGS OVERALL - 5 out of 5

so if the score gets 5 and the songs get 5, why does the album only get 4? the answer's pretty simple. for the first time since 1989 with the little mermaid, two composers helped on this film. one provided the film's score and one provided the music for the songs. because two composers worked on this, it feels a little incohesive at times. this isn't really noticible within the film but on the soundtrack it definately stands out. elton john and hans zimmer both did a great job and the only really saving factor are the african rhythms that they both used. although this is a great soundtrack, that lack of unity does bring it down.

despite that minor flaw, this is a must-own for any disney fan or music fan in general. this is a great soundtrack that ranks right up there with beauty and the beast and must never be forgotten.

5 out of 5 stars Simply Perfect.......2007-04-09

This is hands down one of the best Disney soundtracks ever! Elton John came up with some killer tunes here! The opening song always give me goosebumps!

4 out of 5 stars Great Album!.......2007-03-31

This album is great, but I can't seem to find the part where simba and scar fight at the end. i was thinking it would be on "King of Pride Rock" but its not... so i'm a little disapointed in that. (thats one of my favorite scenes for some reason) other than that, i love the songs.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful, if only for the instrumentals.......2007-02-14

The songs with lyrics are cute and memorable, but the strength of this album is in the last four songs. Listen to "This Land" and it instantly transports you back to the scene with Simba and Mufasa laying under the stars, and then to the scene where Simba sees Mufasa in the clouds. Listen to "...To Die For" and you feel an intense claustrophobia as you relive Mufasa's last moments and Simba's discovery of his father. Listen to Under The Stars and you can practically hear Simba screaming, "You said you'd always be there for me!" And when King Of Pride Rock comes along, you can feel your heart swell as you see Simba take his place on Pride Rock. The instrumentals are incredible works of art that never fail to draw intense emotion.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Soundtrack.......2006-11-16

I'm writing this review not of the release of this Special Edition, but of the music contained within. Disney's release and re-release of products is nothing new. It's one of the reasons that Disney is so strong in the market today. With that said, I have to admit that this is one of the best Disney soundtracks that has ever been cut to a disc. I never owned the original release of this music, so I'm glad that Disney did decide to re-release the original work with a few extras as part of the "The Lion King: Special Edition" release. Everything on here is wonderful, and the score itself was key to the development of the story. Selections such as "King Of Pride Rock" and "To Die For" encompass the emotional ups and downs of this film. Elton John's music is also wonderful on this disc. His most notable offerings are "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and "Circle of Life." His only downfall is "I Just Can't Wait To Be King," which should have been left to the youngster who performed Simba's singing voice. It comes acrossed as forced by Elton John as he performs it.

The "extras" for this Special Edition include a mild and unnecessary remix of "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and "The Morning Report," which is included on the Special Edition DVD release. Neither add to the collection, but it is nice to have "The Morning Report" on the disc.

Overall, this is one of Disney's strongest soundtracks. In my personal list, I rank it in second place behind Phil Collins' wonderfully tribal "Tarzan" soundtrack. If you don't already have the "Lion King" soundtrack, I highly suggest that you purchase this special edition copy if you are a true fan of the film or of Disney soundtracks in general.

Highly recommended.

Album Description

The title of Kierra KiKi Sheard's second and latest release, This Is Me, speaks quite well for itself. While giving a reverential nod of respect to her forebears, and delivering a couple of knockout, R&B ballads (the album's title cut, and "Hear This"), Kiki moves into a very hip, urban pocket, delivering her messages through the modern, up-to-the-minute R&B and hip-hop language of today.

Under the sure, hit-making hands of several producers, including Dark Child Production's Fred Jerkins (Brandy, Destiny's Child, Michael Jackson, Kirk Franklin, Trin-i-tee 5:7), Warryn Campbell (Dru Hill, Queen Latifah, Mario, Sisqo, Brandy, Mary Mary), and her younger brother, J. Drew, Kiki and "This Is Me" delivers a sound that will captivate ears, minds, hearts and souls—as well as capture the airwaves—for a long time to come. The CD is also being released in a Special Edition format, which will include the entire album plus five bonus cuts and an alternate mix of the title song.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Too Many Producers, Not enough quality.......2007-06-11

Kierra first cd was stellar. It was a great sound for a person with such a strong voice in a youthful body. But the new album is a total disappointment. The problem may be that Ms. Sheard has not found her signature sound yet and she has too many producers who have put their sound on her voice. Ms. Sheard's talent is lost in too hype beats and over induced lyrics.

I know Kiki is a great talent, I am not downplaying her. But this album does not showcase the skills I know that she has. You may not be happy with this purchase, but it's worth a try.

1 out of 5 stars Too Much Too Soon.......2006-11-25

KiKi has not taken time to DEVELOPE as an "artist" she was basically pushed out there by her family to generate more $$$ all in the name of gospel. Her skills as a vocalist are marginal coming from such a strong family of singers. She needs to study and learn vocal techniques. If you hear her live it's just basically screaming over sychronized noise... Oops I mean "gospel" music.

5 out of 5 stars Top-notch, but go for the bonus version instead of this one.......2006-10-27

This ultra-contemporary CD by the youngest member of the royal Clark family has an undeniable vibe and energy that kept it on rotation in my car for a GOOD while.

Now I'm listening to the "Special Edition" of THIS IS ME -- with 6 extra tracks -- and they are worth the extra premium over this version of the release disc.

With the voice of Kiki and the quality of the music here, you don't wanna short change yourself!

5 out of 5 stars Why this album is worth buying!!!.......2006-10-21

This Is Me by Kierra "KiKi" Sheard is worth buying because, this a very inspirational album for any Chiristian. Especially if you are struggling with any issues with your family, peers, or even friends hatin on you. Also, my girl did her thing on this album just like the first CD. The production on this album was so nice!!!!!! And her brother is very talented, what a great producer!!!!!!. Every song on the album get's 10 stars from me!!!!!!. One of my favorite songs off the CD is Faith. Love it!!!!!. Listening to this album really helped me to get rid of my secular music so if you are going through that issue, stay encouraged. You can do it!!!! If you don't already own this CD buy it!!! You will be amazed by what she has to say!!!!
P.S. All the songs will make you wanna get up and dance!!!!. Anybody that thinks this album is wack is crazy. Y'all don't know real music!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars if you feel..........2006-08-26

...even the slightest inclination to make this purchase you simply cannot go wrong, it just does not get any better than this...smooth, funky not junky, masterfully produced, arranged, and synthesized and the vocal genuflections and intricacies are ingenious, irresistable, catchy, and sweetly yet slammingly soulful. not one single dud in any of the 13 tracks. this is one that won't let you alone and will linger with you and keep you reminiscing, humming, bouncing and bobbing for years to come...absolutely!!

5 out of 5 stars The revolution WILL be sung LIVE with makeup, a drink, and a pink boa!.......2006-11-08

I want to understand why I like this album so much... then I listen to it again and remember why and understand Justin Bond and pianist Kenny Mellman's vision when they created KikiDuRane and long suffering friend and pianist Herb.

This is just my opinion, of course...

By the time Justin came along, drag had gotten kind of 'mainstream' and dull. There was nothing left, nothing further to explore. You can go to any drag review in almost any city and watch the drag queens lipsync to the same tired songs over and over. It was like McDonald's - the same kind of entertainment everywhere.

Then, in the early in the 90's, Kiki and Herb was born, and all drag queens bowed before her.

LIVE singing? A cabaret act? Unheard of...

I am a huge fan, and this album represents their zenith. It is a living breathing example of that final show that has been on the road "since 1934." Kiki talks and talks between the pauses, Herb waits for the pauses to start playing music, and Kiki is drunk, and schmaltzy, and sings music you would NEVER expect anyone EVER to put together in a song list, but it WORKS.

I mean, how do you go from Bonnie Tyler and Eminem to the Talking Heads and Joy Division?

Here is a bit of trivia, quoted from 'a reliable source': "In 2004, Kiki and Herb gave a "farewell" performance at New York City's Carnegie Hall. The one-night-only show was titled "Kiki and Herb Will Die for You" and featured a number of celebrities, including Sandra Bernhard, Isaac Mizrahi, Jake Shears, Michal Cavadias, and Rufus Wainwright."

This is that show, all 2 hours and 57 minutes of it, just Kiki, Herb, and a piano, and over 200 screaming adoring fans.

A bit of techie stuff for the audiophiles: The 2CDs play well, and the sound is crisp. It is mastered from the original elements, and is Dolby playable. There have been complaints online of skipping on the last two tracks, but not my copy. The CD inserts provide wonderful information about the show and gives a brief history.

Actually, there are about 5 encores (Total Eclipse of the Heart, Those Were the Days, Tonight's the Kind of Night, Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, Running Up That Hill), which only goes to show you the crowd did not want the night to end.

About the music: From the opening note, which has Herb right off the bat singing by himself (!) "Close To It All," to the last very notes of Kiki as she sings THE MOST MOVING EVER VERSION of Kate Bush's "Running Up that Hill," you will laugh at the cheesy humor, you might cry, and if your heart is big enough, you will enjoy every moment it's on. Period.

Now, as a final thought, I'm going to make a comparison here that might get me in trouble with a LOT of 'certain people', but here goes:

Judy Garland sang at Carnegie Hall back in 1961. It has been widely hailed and quoted as one of the greatest live musical recordings ever made. She had a full orchestra, she was at her peak (no matter what anyone says), and when she sang she poured her soul into that performance.

43 years later, a skinny boy named Justin Bond sang in drag and in pearls and almost took her crown away - or at least held it, admired it, and wished he could have it, if only for almost 3 wonderful live hours.

Do yourself a MASSIVE favor - pick up this album.

I listen to it at least once a week when I'm home and the day flies by.

Thanks!

5 out of 5 stars to die for.......2005-11-27

This one is realy too good for any words. At the end of a recent trip we did not want to get out of the car until we finished hearing the last cut. To say it is funny and irreverent is an understatement if anything
This would be great holiday or anytime CD. Herb's piano work is out of this world. Kiki may be my step-mom, but I haven't figured it out yet.
The messages of peace, freedom and love don't get lost.

Kiki & Herb have a following in London (UK), where I'm based -- and I was delighted to find on this CD some of the songs and routines that they performed on board the PRESIDENT there a year or so back. The CD experience matches the sensory battering K&H give and, by golly, it's intense (just like Kiki!). So take it all at once (again, just like Kiki!) -- don't walk away from the CD player; don't dip in and sample; drink this cup to the bitter dregs (they're just like Kiki, too!). I was lucky enough to listen to K&HWDFY during a four-hour backroads drive across Ohio and Indiana, locked in my sensory-deprivation box, i.e., air-conditioned rental Ford F150 cab, and believe me, that CD did a lot to counter ambient wholesomeness. Very enthusiastically recommended!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Superb Kiki Compilation.......2007-06-30

I bought this CD years ago, and it is an excellent CD containing the hits and many highlights of Kiki Dee's career in the 70's. Lots of songs on here, and even several of her 60's recordings, which sound great on CD.

Kiki is very underrated as a singer & songwriter. She can sing rockers like I'VE GOT THE MUSIC IN ME, STEP BY STEP, ONE JUMP AHEAD OF THE STORM, and ballads with ease. This compilation CD is certainly worthy of owning. The 60's songs WHY DON'T I RUN AWAY FROM YOU and RUNNING OUT OF FOOLS are worth hearing ... rare singles from 1966 that illustrate Kiki's abilities singing r&b with that big voice when she was just a kid. Plus, includes an alternate take of album favorite YOU NEED HELP.

Wonderful & highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars awsome.......2006-06-18

I purchased this greatest hits cd because of the song "I got the music in me". I expected to like maybe a few songs from this collection......I was wrong. The whole cd is excellent. Kiki is a superior vocalist with excellent back-up band. A combination of Jass Rock Blues.

3 out of 5 stars What happened?.......2006-03-08

I have the original ROCKET vinyl album of I've got the Music In Me...I bought this CD for TWO SONGS and ONLY two songs..."Step by Step" and "You Need Help"...the second song is a different version than I am used to on vinyl. Maybe this is a British version of something, but it's very disappointing to me. Other than that, it's nice to have some Kiki on CD.

3 out of 5 stars Kiki Dee & Elton John at their Best!.......2005-09-13

I do not have either this CD (Amoureuse) or the original LP in my collection; but I do have the LP, Loving and Free, produced by Elton John and Clive Franks, purchased sometime in the middle 1970s. While I am neither a Kiki Dee fan, nor highly knowledgable on pop music, I personally consider Loving and Free to be one of the very best albums by a female vocalist in the 1970 - 80s. Elton John's contributions herein, including arrangements and production, are considerable - Kiki Dee, while extremely talented as a singer - songwriter, never matched the collaborations with Elton John, apart or own her own. But, again in my opinion, Elton John never had a whole album as good as, Loving and Free. The two were a dynamite combination.

It's most unfortunate that Loving and Free is not available to the general CD buying public - but it's well worth your time and effort to find the album's music somewhere on the internet to download, and to listen to it. My only negative feelings about Loving and Free are that it could be more upbeat throughout - but both love and love songs can sometimes reflect sad, bittersweet experiences.

4 out of 5 stars Pleasant surprise.......2005-07-28

I bought this CD for the song "I've Got The Music In Me" and was very pleasantly surprised at the consistent high quality and listenability of all the songs on it.

I bought this in a 'box lot' and it was worth the price of ALL !I am white, male, love jazz and Gospel.....fell OUT of love with the new R&B of the past 15 yrs as the new artists are lazy and rely on looks over talent. This CD gets me cranked while I WORK. It has been my favorite for the past several months. My only concern is that it borderlines .This young lady is so talented that I fear she will cross over . I hope she is grounded in the Lord.We fans need to pray for her !KiKi-- you stay strong ! Don't you be tempted ! Get your treasures in Heaven. From the 'old man' .....Geno

5 out of 5 stars This is the Future of Gospel.......2005-11-02

Words cannot express the way I feel about this artist and this CD. Kierra "Kiki" Sheard is true music minister. It is astounding that she is only a teenager, but this girl has more anointing in her little pinky than...well, you get what I'm saying. She truly is the future of gospel music. Hailing from the legendary Clark family, Kiki continues in their excellent tradition of lifting up the name of Jesus in song.

    1. You Don't Know - This song has grown on me. It's not my favorite, but I love the way she incorporates the Clark Sisters' "You Brought the Sunshine" melody into the bridge.

    2. Let Go - This song by far is my favorite. Kiki's voice is amazing! I can't believe how high she sings on it without sounding screechy. It's got a powerful message about persevering through hardship, and she throws in a riff a la Dorinda at the end.

    3. Church Nite - Cute song, good lyrics, and stellar singing as always.

    4. Closer - Great song about getting closer to God.

    5. Praise Offering - Oh my goodness. If you do not feel the Holy Spirit when you hear this song, you are not saved! For real! This song gives me chills. It is so heartfelt, sincere, and beautiful. Just listen.

    6. Sweetest Thing - My favorite line of the song is: "He's the man in my life, and He always makes things right." Sweet song about Jesus being the lover of you soul. It was also produced by her younger brother.

    7. War - Another song produced by Kiki's younger brother. Powerful.

    8. All I Am - Very smooth and soothing.

    9. Done Did It-Get ready to have some more church. Girlfriend goes to town on this one.

    10. So Long - Not my fave, but still good.

    11. Snap - Tonex delivers on this thumping, hard-hitting track. It's very Tonex-if you're familiar with his work, then you know what I mean.

This is just such a wonderful CD. I encourage you to go out and buy it right now! You won't be sorry.

    Peace

    5 out of 5 stars A blessing.......2005-10-29

Kierra is a really talented young woman of God and she's got a voice just like her mama's! Strong and beautiful. I would say Kierra is simply a more modern sounding Karen Clark-Sheard. And by that I mean that her music radiates God's word and at the same time appeals to young people because of her contemporary style. So it's not just the beat that will grab you. You will be blessed by the gospel's truth in the lyrics. And not only that, but young people, young church-goers, will be even able to *relate.* If you're thinking about buying it, let me sway you to go ahead and do it.

    4 out of 5 stars I Owe Him Too.......2005-08-24

I love this girl, the way she sings, her voice, the songs, the beats....the list goes on and on. Definitely a must have for those who like to bump some downright good gospel music. One of the best cd's of 2004 and even going into 2005. If you like her mom Karen then you'll like her too. I might even pick up the remix cd too just so I can continue to listen to her until the next one drops.

    4 out of 5 stars GIFTED.......2005-08-21

I love the Clark Sisters and when I heard Kierra's CD I was like "Yep she has the gift." Overall to me the CD could have been better, the upbeat songs were good, but if the CD had at least two more songs like "Praise Offering" it really would have been awesome. I liked the Tonex produced song also...by the way when is Mrs. Tonex coming out with an album because the song sounds just like her. Kierra's voice is another welcome additon to gospel music and I hope that she stays focused and keeps up her instrument to continue to give GOD the glory like only she can!

5 out of 5 stars Three great performances and more good stuff !.......2005-11-22

The CD reissue of this long forgotten rarity of an album recorded during Kiki's brief late 60s signing with Motown is certainly cause for celebration. Apart from Chris Clark, Kiki was probably the only white female singer to have found herself on Motown's roster of artistes during the label's halcyon years. The result of her entire Motown sessions - including leftovers in the can - are included in this compilation.

Technically, Kiki had arguably a better voice than fellow Britgirls Cilla, Sandie and Lulu. She had a naturally strong and attractive raspy edge to her voice that should have been labeled "soulful" but wasn't, for it lacked "sympatico", an innate quality that's gifted, not learned. Dusty had heaps of it. Kiki wasn't so lucky, as a result of which success eluded her when the others were making it big in the 60s.

Kiki's Motown sessions sound as fresh today as it did in 1970. The original album contained at least three masterful and sublime performances that make this a lost classic, namely "Love Makes The World Go Round", "Johnny Raven" and "Jimmy". The album is worth owning for these three recordings alone. The first of these should have been an instant hit but sadly wasn't. The second easily tops the Supremes' 70s cover on their "Touch" album. The last of these is simply immaculate and from the sleevenotes, it looks like Kiki feels the same way. There're other good stuff like "Day Will Come Between Sunday and Monday", "Love Is A Warm Kind Of Sorrow", "Oh Be My Love", and a slowed down version of Stevie Wonder's "For Once In My Life". Others like "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing" and "I Can't Give Back The Love I Feel For You" are blander and don't compare, respectively with Marvin Gaye/Tammi Terrell's and Dusty Springfield's (from "Dusty Definitely") more familiar versions.

Besides, Motown made some poor choices too. Kiki was ill advised to cover the Dusty #1, "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me". This dismal attempt at an alternative chorus arrangement to the Dusty original only succeeds in being awkward and inept. Likewise, Kiki sleepwalks through a perfunctory rendition of Smokey and the Miracles' "I Second That Emotion" that makes you wonder why they even bothered. The four previously unreleased bonus tracks (Tracks 15-18) are uneven including two similarly uninspired performances ("Walk On By" and "Put A Little Love In Your Heart") which are more like try out sessions and finally abandoned for good reason. Good to have for completists but that's about it.

Kiki's Motown session is more than a quaint slice of late 60s recording history. A little uneven perhaps - but hey, since when did Motown artistes make great albums before the Marvin Gaye "What's Going On " era ? - but there's magic in at least three of these performances and more good stuff, so that's good enough reason to go out and buy yourself a copy. Listen and enjoy !

    5 out of 5 stars Outstanding!.......2007-01-16

Its good to have someone who sings about Jesus to have something that young people would actually choose to listen to before they listen to some of the secular artist out there.

    5 out of 5 stars Outstanding.......2007-01-06

This is one of the best CD's I have heard in a while. Ki Ki brung it! The production is excellent and her voice of course is anointed. There is a little something for everyone on here of all ages.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2006-10-27

I completely agree with the comments from Danny in Ohio. It seems like even with a variety of producers, Kiki has established a style that is uniquely hers. It is very creative and fresh-sounding.

I am thankful that we can have this type of diversity in spiritual music. I love all types of music, spiritual and mainstream, and in my opinion this is a perfect blend of The Message and current musical trends -- especially when you consider Kiki's age.

Kiki's age! That's worth mentioning. She sings with experience, wisdom, and power. That Clark musical gene is strong and you can hear shades of her mom and auntie often ... yet baby girl has a vibe all her own, and I thank God for it. This girl is already a talent beyond compare and I can't even imagine to what levels she's capable of rising to.

Some reviewers have said that this album "doesn't sound like Kiki." It does to me; I mean, if not her, who does it sound like? There are a lot of younger female singers (spiritual and mainstream) that have soprano voices and attempt to do vocal acrobatics. But Kierra is in a class of one and really can't be compared to any of them.

This is the expanded edition of THIS IS ME and the extra tracks are more than worth the premium over the regular edition. That set, with its 13 tracks, stands as a solid effort by itself. But if you know you can have more of what the Lord has blessed us with through this young lady of ministry, why miss out?

THIS IS ME is a job well-done, and clearly shows that the Clark legacy is alive, well, and kicking!

4 out of 5 stars wait this isnt a bad album.......2006-09-12

i just gave this album a listen and i going to say that this is far from being a bad album. man it amazes me like that other person said at how close-minded some people still are. honestly do they just LOOK for something to hate??? believe it or not not all chistians are exteremly conservative like people like to think of us as. now to that person that dissed kiki because of some of the production on this CD. this was HER album and HER songs. aight?? you got that? if she wanted to have dark child(who does also have a chritian label)produce the album then that is her business. if that is so evil would virtues new album(testimony) be evil as well?. this album was nice in beats and lyrics. some of the songs stood out to me bc i like the way she expressed her issues that she has dealt with and is dealing with. this album is dealing with christian YOUTH issues. now is this a praise and worship CD? no. but does that mean that this CD is w/o worth? ABSOLUTELY NOT! also about you hatin on yolanda adams singing that chaka khan song on BET. well i didnt think she would sing it either bc i had never seen her sing anything other than gospel but she did a great job. it was originally supposed to be someone else singing it on that show but that person couldnt do it so she did it at the last minute. hello the song wasnt nasty. so guess what? SHE DID NO WRONG. and you say you tired of ppl saying "we need to change to get young people".....IM SICK AND TIRED of bible thumping people that always wanna wear angel wings when they are only 1 foot away from hell theirselves. it makes me angry. and if you are opposed to that then you are probably going to oppose my review as well because i love gospel but guess what? I LOVE R&B ALSO(babyface, neyo, jaguar wright, angie stone, jon b, luther vandross, isley brothers, carl thomas, heather headley, jill scott, floetry, javier, donell jones, frankie j, blu cantrell, ciara, faith evans, erykah badu, india arie, chante moore, shanice, calvin richardson, teedra moses, cherish, SWV, brandy etc, etc, etc) so am i in sin? awww mannnn(sarcasm). look at some of the rnb artist that started off doing gospel(monica, mary j blige, aretha franklin) are they being evil? realize that not everybodys voice is suited for traditional gospel and kierra is one of those people. yeah her voice is good but it is not suited for traditional gospel sry to say it. also another agreement with another review i saw. we wont ever reach out to people when we are being that picky. we alwasy talking about somebody and what they doing wrong and we wonder why they dont become christians. well that's becuase they see the example of how we treat others. do you think they want anything to do with that? think about that. im out.

P.S. stop hatin on kirk. kirk franklin is awesome. also karen clark is great to. stop being so judgemental. oh yeah that person that was talking about the interview. i dont think she was trying to justify listening to lil jon. she was just saying an example. that just because one listens to or sings secular music does not mean that they are doing evil. ligthen up please.

4 out of 5 stars Open your mind and your heart.......2006-08-09

I have been reading some of these reviews and I have to say taht I'm truly suprised at how close minded people are these days. This is a great album, positive messages, good beats, and great singing. So maybe she did use Darckchild, who as well has a christian label and Virtue being the first artist signed to it (if you like this cd, I highly recommend you get Testimony by Virtue). But you probably didn't know that did you? Anyways, why do people feel that just because someone produces other music that there is something wrong with them? Music comes from God and just because a song doesn't scream Jesus all over it doesn't mean that you shouldn't listen to it. She is reaching out to a group of people that like this style of music, which I am one. You cannot get away from the message that is behind the music, that's what it's all about. Sometimes we focus too much on the messenger and totally ignore the message.

I also have to say that I know unsaved people that I have played this cd around and they absolutely love it. They were really suprised that chritian music could be so appealing to them. That's just the firt step, get them hooked to the music, then as they listen more and more they being to hear the message and through that is how lives are changed. Maybe this cd isn't for everyone, but I will say it keeps me strong in my faith, gives me something positive to listen to, and clearly has the ability to reach those that don't know Jesus christ. I highly doubt God himself can be mad at that, so why are you?

You most definitely want to buy this version of the album as there are two. One does not include the bonus tracks like this one does. I think the extra tracks are worth the few dollars extra you might pay for it.

4 out of 5 stars Apparent Anointing .......2006-07-06

The anointing of this young woman's voice and the strength and magnitude of her praise is awesome. The minute you turn on this CD, you can not help but to feel the presence of God. At such a young age, Kiki is paving the way and ushering in a new phase of young people's praise. This is a must grab whether you want a quiet praise or a club banger like You Don't Know. Her voice is like butter, better yet, like milk and honey.

5 out of 5 stars Kierra "Kiki" Sheard-Following Her OWN Footsteps.......2006-06-08

It is safe to say that Kierra Sheard is not only very beautiful and blessed with such a dynamic voice, but is following her OWN footsteps. A lot of people may come off saying that she gets her voice from her mom, and that she does, but she is very unique in using it her own way. I love the song " U Dont Know". It has a bounce and contemporary gospel feel to it. I could skate to that song!! I love it that much. Kierra has raw talent that is uncomparable. I love her range of voice, she is so gifted and anointed. God is really using her in the music ministry. Her vocals are so reassuring and you can feel the emotion in her singing. Girl, sing!!!! Keep up the good work Kierra, I hope to get your album coming out soon. May God reign over your musical career and continue to keep Him as the head of your life. God bless everyone

    A loving fan, Ciara
