A lot of 70's Music.......2005-09-20

If you really like 70's themes, you should like this CD. It was a little too dated for me.

Bond and beyond on an excellent career retrospective........1998-08-25

Imitation is often considered the greatest form of flattery. John Barry's oeuvre has been sampled by dozens of contemporary musical artists, and he is often credited as being the godfather of "trip hop" (check recent albums by Portishead and Mono to hear the Barry influence). The Academy-award winning composer has been producing music for over forty years, but this collection focuses on the artist's most commercially successful period, the 1960's. The instantly recognizable and inimitable Barry style is well documented throughout 23 varied compositions. Selections range from classic to obscure, and include all the title tracks from the early James Bond soundtracks. Barry's film and television music is the defining sound of that era - lush orchestrations, cool jazzy riffs, pure excitement. "Themeology" is an excellent starting point for the novice collector and equally attractive for the long-time admirer.

In Native American mythology, Coyote Oldman is a trickster. It's also a long-lived duo that takes Native American flutes and sends them through prairie cathedrals on wings of digital reverb, delays, and harmonization. Michael Graham Allen makes the flutes and plays them along with Barry Stramp, who routes the flutes' windblown melodies through a maze of effects. Their music is born in the moment, reflecting and refracting through the many mirrored images of flutes that bounce back at them through the processing.

In Beauty I Walk is a collection of their work from 1986 through 1995 and it's a perfect way to become immersed in the sound of this unusual group. It includes "Night Forest," a song that shows their Native American influences and ends up with "Compassion," featuring Japanese soprano Hui Cheng. They don't play Native American music, but their slow-motion melodies seem born from the American plains. --John Diliberto

I found this group's website in an article on smudging (space cleansing sage ritual). A moment later I was listening to a few of their songs on ITunes and was blown away. I sat there for a very long time, just listening to one song after another and feeling so good. What a pleasurable, pleasing journey. After this experience I just can't imagine anyone NOT being affected by this music in one way or another. It's **that** good.

Complex Simplicity.......2002-11-01

I believe Lemon Jelly to be the only band I currently know of who make music as easy to listen to as Westlife and as complex as Aphex Twin. This is pure flowing pleasure for your ears and stuff certain to put a smile on your face. These guys could do a soundtrack, harden their music, whatever - just started and already brilliant!

The Long Walk Is A Good One.......2006-02-16

I've just recently become a fan of this band, and hope they get signed to a major label or finally come out with a full length CD thats up to their standard.I gave this CD only 4 stars because of the sound mix. Some of the vocals tend to be buried in the mix and you don't really get the feel of David Tunnell's very powerful drumming. All that aside, the songs on the EP are really good. On the opening song "The Departure", where RoMak opens his door to the outside world and is greated by "the golden shimmering flakes of unavailability".What a great line.Then theres "The Long Walk", where it seems to go from a somewhat sunny sing along to very cloudy and somewhat dark. In that one, you get somewhat of a glimpse of keyboardist Die Bene Tleilaxu's spacey nature.The songs have pop overtones, but there is more going on here than your usual radio foder. Some of the electronic sounds spark of early 80's pop, but its still vibrant and fresh sounding.My favorite track on here are "No,Not Ever","The Day That Wasn't There" and "The Long Walk". There are six songs total.I've seen these guys live twice, and they are a very visual type of band. RoMak has great stage presents and can really work a room. You don't really get that from this EP, but hopefully it might get you to go out and actually see this wonderful group. They have just released another demo CD called "The Universe Is Too Small", that has some very good songs on it.

Amazing new-wave/alternative.......2005-04-23

Mash Devo, The Cure, and Marilyn Manson in a blender and you get this album. Sad, agressive, and full of catchy electronics, this is probably one of my favorite albums of all time. Take The Cure's "Head on the Door" and throw in some metal-style riffs and you'll get this album. Pick this up now!
