Fine, but Change That Title!.......2007-03-12
Much like previous reviewer Mr. Reynolds, this reviewer bought HTFH for 1 track--"Lonesome 7-7203". The object was to get a version with full backup, chorus and all. To do so was worth every penny! The release spent 25 weeks on the charts, including 4 as # 1. Isn't it sad that HH was killed in that fateful plane crash just 3 days after its' release? His fellow victim, Cowboy Copas, is here with "Alabam" but Patsy is absent. As far as the other tracks are concerned, all are perfectly respectable. In fact, EACH made the Billboard charts! This listener was familiar with all except "You're the Reason" by Bobby Edwards and "The Old Lamplighter" by the Browns. (Didn't Jim Ed do better with a woman by his side be they his sisters or Helen Cornelius?). There are no complaints about this album but as Mr. Reynolds already asked: Are these to be seriously considered "Hard to Find"? Time Life has produced a solid collection here, as they often do. If the suits could only muster up a less misleading title! To close on a positive note, buyers are urged to read the inserted jacket. Where else would one learn that Hawkshaw's wife, Jeanie Shepard, recorded "Lonesome" first? Now THAT would be a "hard to find" hit!
Hard To Find? Maybe........2007-01-21
I bought this one mainly to get "Statue Of A Fool" and "Fraulein", which are somewhat hard to come by. Time Life has more money than God, and I'm sure that comes in handly when it comes time to license this tuff. Sound quality is excellent throughout. But really, does anyone believe that Jimmie Rodgers' "Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" is hard to find??

Spectacular and more.......2001-02-21
I was 8 years old when I first heard Marvin Rainwater's "My Love Is Real"...it gave me goose bumps then and I knew this guy was one of the "greats". When I talked to my husband about Marvin he recognized the "Gonna Find Me A Bluebird" but wasn't aware he had so many other hits. He got me this boxed set of CDs for my birthday and if you are looking for a unique gift for someone special who appreciates 50s 'rockabilly' and a variety of sweet sentiment, you won't go wrong.Personally, I think Marvin's style surpassed many of the "greats" of that time and can only 'spread the word' about this guy so others who have an interest in this type of music can appreciate this spectacular artist.
Marvin Rainwater, Classic Recordings.......2000-02-03
Been a fan of this type of music that Marvin Rainwater sang since the 50s. Have not been disapointed with this box set. Would recommed it to anyone who likes good classical country music. There aren't any country music singers around today that sing this type of music. I'm always looking for good classical country music and this set of Marvin Rainwater is about as good as it gets.
Superb!!!!!!.......1999-04-29
One of the true legends of Country music, Marvin Rainwater is kept in front of the fans with this fabulous and exciting box set from Bear Family! The sound is great and the music is better! Every rockabilly and country hit of Marvin's as well as virtually his whole recorded legacy prior to 1970 is included in this box set! Marvin's unique way with a song has brought joy to millions over the years. It is really teriffic to be able to listen to so many songs again that were out of print. Marvin is the artist credited with helping Patsy Cline, Roy Clark, Brenda Lee, and Connie Francis get started. In this box are duets with Connie, backup and lead by Roy, and Rockabilly guest appearances by Link Wray! Also included are duets with Marvin's sister Patty Rainwater and with Bill Guess. Four long playing cds and a fullsize book with lots of pictures and discography add to the value of this Marvin Rainwater collection. If you love real country music, if rockabilly gets to your soul, then for sure get yourself a copy of "Marvin Rainwater Classsic Recordings" . Its about the best money I have ever spent. Plus Marvin came to my area and he graciously autographed it for me . So now it is a true treasure!!! Now, if only Bear Family would put out a box of 1970 to the present....the saga would continue. Pop for this one friends, you will not be disappointed.

Appeals to Classic Country fans, as well as Rock-a-billy.......1999-01-06
I have this album set in my home. The chart topper on this 4-album set is "Gonna Find Me a Bluebird", that sold over a million copies circa 1959. There are several songs on this album set that are in the category of 'Bluebird', that are mostly unfamiliar to the radio listening audiences, such as 'Yesterday's kisses', '(Sometimes) I feel like leavin' town', 'A Song of new Love (On golden wings)', and 'Look for me (I'll be waiting for you)'. Also, there are a couple songs that include Marvin singing duets with Connie Frances. There are several songs written by Marvin's sister, Pattie Rainwater, done by Marvin, as well as duets with Pattie. The 4th album set closes with live performances by both Marvin and Pattie on Wheeling, WV, Jubilee. There is a considerable variety of entertainment on the 4-album set of over 125 songs. Anyone who remembers Marvin from such TV shows as Arthur Gofrey's talent scouts, Ed Sullivan show, Dick Clark show, as well as his being a 'regular' on Red Foley's Ozark Jubilee, from Springfield, MO, for about 2 years, would appreciate getting to again hear his homespun songs, as well as songs of the heart, that find their way into most of our lives.
I feel certain that anyone who gets this album set will enjoy long hours listening pleasure, as there is something here for just about everyone. If you have parents who loved Country music from the 50's and 60's, you could not find a better gift to bring hours of entertainment for them.

Beautiful Music.......2005-10-29
I have loved this album for years. One of the reasons i'm reviewing it is that i have seen in used at many used cd stores around and i think people should pick it up. Trey Many and Amon Krist do an amazing job on this album. This is the best album out of the three, well mixed, mastered, produced... very good on the ears. Something the other albums lack. Highly suggest this to fans of Sarah McLachlan, Sixpence, Innocence Mission, Azure Ray, and similar artists.
WOW!.......1998-12-17
This is a really cool cd, it's great for people that just want to have a taste of what velour 100 sounds like. The thing i really like about the cd is Amon Krist's wonderful voice. Not only is she a wonderful singer, but she's a down to earth kind of person. You'll love this cd!
Soothing Variances.......1998-09-24
Velour soothes you with their sounds which is perfect for reading your Bible to or just plain relaxing. The musical style also varies throughout the EP which demonstrates Velour's range of talent.

Rock-A-Billy Marvin Rainwater.......2007-02-07
If you like Marvin Rainwater you'll like this disc. We get alot of request for him at the station, so I picked this up to play during the Rock-A-billy Review show. His song: "I've got to go get my baby" is a rock-a-billy classic that folks can't get enough of. A good addition to anyones Rock-A-Billy collection.

Hey, if you are like me, you have heard "Gonna Find Me a Bluebird" and you want more like that. Keep looking!
Now don't get me wrong, I am sure longtime fans of Marvin will love this and won't want to miss what's here. But, I just needed some Marvin for my collection, and this was all that was available, so I got it, and still can't make heads or tails of what is here.
The remastering if fantastic, and Bear Family does another awesome job with the booklet.
To summarize: For long-time fans only!!!

Customer Reviews:
This isn't his only CD...........2005-04-22
I had James Rainwater (PJ) as my pastor for a year, and man, that was one of the best years I've had. He is a terrific guy, and a fabulous singer. Besides Free to Go, PJ also has The Gallery, Another Christmas (my personal favorite), and A Gospel Collection. They're all worth purchasing, and I highly recommend them all. If you get the chance to see one of PJ's concerts, GO GO GO!!! You won't be disappointed.
James is awesome.......2004-08-08
I had the utmost privilege attending Wewoka camp where James was pastor over the youth group. Each summer I got to hear Pastor James do special music and it's one of the things I remember most about my times at camp. I was so happy when I first got Free to Go, one of the first ones to be distributed, before he started doing concerts and playing on radio stations ^_^ I still have it to this day, and it gets me through some hard times, especially the little memo on the back that says "Always remember Candice, God is with you."
This is a must have cd for everyone!.......2004-01-31
Free To Go is one of the best Christian cd's that has hit the market in years! James Rainwater's smooth voice makes it a pleasant listening experience, and the song lyrics are uplifting and beautiful! Don't buy just one, buy 2 and share with your friends who need to hear godly music. My favorites are Free To Go, the title cut, as well as Temporary Home (yee-haw!). You must get this cd, you will be blessed!
If you get the chance to see him in concert, definitly go!
Great singer - Great music!.......2001-07-07

Rock-A-Billy Marvin Rainwater.......2007-02-07
If you like Marvin Rainwater you'll like this disc. We get alot of request for him at the station, so I picked this up to play during the Rock-A-billy Review show. His song: "I've got to go get my baby" is a rock-a-billy classic that folks can't get enough of. A good addition to anyones Rock-A-Billy collection.

Don't really know what to make of this one.......2003-09-11
Hey, if you are like me, you have heard "Gonna Find Me a Bluebird" and you want more like that. Keep looking!
Now don't get me wrong, I am sure longtime fans of Marvin will love this and won't want to miss what's here. But, I just needed some Marvin for my collection, and this was all that was available, so I got it, and still can't make heads or tails of what is here.
The remastering if fantastic, and Bear Family does another awesome job with the booklet.
To summarize: For long-time fans only!!!
