5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2005-11-18

I know that WOW is kind of a small word but this CD ROCKS! I have loved queen for years. I originally bought this CD for my 10 year old son who took up the violin this year and who loves queen as much as I do but it quickly became mine. I've heard some pretty bad imitations, remakes, and ripoffs. I can honestly say that this CD is none of the above. You get 10 of Queens best. 1) Killer Queen, 2) Bohemian Rhapsody, 3) We Are The Champions, 4) We WIll Rock You, which happens to be my favorite on this disk, 5)Fat Bottomed Girls, 6)Crazy Little Thing Called Love, 7) Somebody To Love, 8) Play The Game, 9) You're My Bext Friend, 10) Another One Bites The Dust. The only downside to this disk is that they left out about a hundred other songs. I sincerely hope that The String Quartet comes out with a volume 2, but why stop there. They could go on forever with just Queen Classics.
Do yourself a favor. If you like Queen and Classical Music BUY THIS CD. You won't be sorry.

5 out of 5 stars YES!!!!.......2005-06-05

Two words: Bohemian Rahpsody.

THey could have released a CD with only this song and I would have bought/borrowed/stolen it to get it. This song is definitely a highlight, but don't stop there, since the rest of the CD will make you want to play it over and over again.

If you've been thinking about buying a String Quartet Tribute, but don't know which to buy, I would buy this one, without a doubt.

5 out of 5 stars The Trail Less Traveled.......2007-07-16

Anyone that lives on a farm will love the words to this music. It doesn't hurt any that the music also has the right rhythm for farm life. The songs describe farm life and it is the road less traveled now days. You have a better quality of life and learn responsibilities that you would never have learned otherwise. This CD reflects it perfectly.

5 out of 5 stars moving lyrics.......2007-06-18

An other great and moving album by Mary Ann Kennedy. Only people who have experienced deep relationships with horses (and other animal friend) can appreciate the depth of these lyrics and this music. Heart felt and so typical.

5 out of 5 stars totally awesome.......2007-01-09

my daughter and I listen to this all the time and I have bought several to give to horse-friends. I especially appreciate "Gotta Go Feed" and the Blue Heeler song... If you have a hoard of animals... especially horses and the things that go with them... you'll relate to every song.

5 out of 5 stars The ultimate CD for the horse, dog & cat lover!.......2004-02-08

What wonderful words & music. I was able to relate to every track, especially PASO FINO. Mary Ann Kennedy, you focused on dreams and soulful wonder---I applaude you! Please share more of your talents with us!

This CD warms my heart like no other. It brings back good memories and reminds me of the pets that fill my life now. I love listening to this and never tire of the songs. Thanks to Mary Ann Kennedy!

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Something Great Gone Terribly Wrong.......2003-11-29

I LOVE the Reducers, I really do. And just about every necessary song you'd hope appears on this compilation. So what's the problem? Whoever mixed this CD did the Reducers a monumental injustice. The moment I put the CD in, I could tell that someone botched the job. The sound is muddy and the band's spirit doesn't shine through. I have tapes I recorded of this band off the radio on a crappy boom box that sound more vibrant! I have not heard the other Reducers CD's and any Reducers is better than none, but I believe I will be sticking with my vinyl LP's and hope that somehow this abomination is repaired. The band deserves it!

5 out of 5 stars Let's Go!.......2003-11-02

This is it. Without the major label backing of the british bands of the era, and without the critical huzzah's of bands like the Shoes, the Scruffs, etc., these 4 guys from New London were simply one of the best rock and roll bands of the early eighties. Not really punk, more post-New Wave, they remind one of the great lost British bands that appeared on Stiff like Wreckless Eric and Tenpole Tudor (check the cover's album for those references.) What they were more than anything was one of the greatest bar bands of all time, that's where I saw them along with on my college campus. I saw them right when it seemed like they might break. They didn't which is where this comes in. At their worst, they're a fun guitar rock band from a time when that had been subsumed by synths, punk, post-punk whatever. At their best, especially on tunes like Better Homes and Gardens and the phenomenal Let's Go, they were sublime. Long live the Reducers.

5 out of 5 stars They rock, pure and simple.......2003-05-05

Living in NYC, I got turned on to The Reducers in the mid-80s when WLIR used play the explosive "Let's Go." Screw Good Charlotte - "Let's Go" is a true anthem, right up there with "London Calling, Ghost Town, Radio Radio," and "What's So Funny `Bout Peace, Love and Understanding?" I recently convinced a friend to buy Redux; and when we put it on his stereo and cranked up the volume, he looked at me with widened eyes and said, "This rocks!" Thus has been the comment of anyone who has ever heard The Reducers. Indispensable for starting off mix tapes with a kick and a bang. And oh yeah, they were the first band to write an excellent pop-rock song called "Closing Time."

They are right - New London hardly ever does rock. The Reducers, however, do - in a big way.

    5 out of 5 stars Killer Indeed.......2005-06-06

Killer Surf! is a collection of music recorded by surf group The Challengers in the groovy 1960s. I'm not quite sure if this is like a best of as the title implies. I have heard that this is sort of just a mix of stuff from albums and otherwise. Some of the albums (Not all) have been reissued by GNP Crescendo and I don't think any of these songs are from them. Well, some of the same songs are here but they aren't the same versions on the albums. All twelve of the album Sidewalk Surfing (1964) are included, some remixed a bit. So the legimacy of this being a greatest hits is a bit suspicious to me.

Anyway, it's a great collection. These songs should be familiar to many. Among the well known bits are Dick Dale's "Miserlou," The Ventures' "Walk Don't Run" and The Champs' "Tequila." An instrumental version of Paul Revere & The Raiders' "Kicks" is excellent and "Camel Back" is a funky rocker. The Sidewalk Surfing tracks are all great, among them the goofy classic "Duck Waddle" the high energy "Collison Course" and a different version of their hit "K-39." The sax is wilder on this version. Some tracks are a tad pop and not much surf, but BAH! It's great music! Get it if ya dig instrumental surf.

    2 out of 5 stars I Challenge The Challengers!.......2003-09-06

This Challengers' collection contains 30 songs, clocking in at 72 minutes. They do very good versions of classic surf instrumentals, such as "Pipeline" and "Wipe Out," but they're not as good as the original versions by the Chantays and the Surfaris. This brings me to the reason why I only gave this CD two stars. The version of their signature song "K-39" on this collection sounded different to me, especially the saxophone part. I did a little research on the Internet and found a song by song review of this compilation. That review verified the fact that the version of "K-39" included in this collection is NOT the hit version. It was taken from a different recording session. To have alternate versions of certain songs on a compilation isn't necessarily a bad thing. However, when you have an alternate version of your only hit song on a best of collection, without also including the original hit version, that's unforgivable.

3 out of 5 stars Nostalgia meets the boot.......2003-01-25

It's the first month of 2003 and all the kids aren't listening to this. But none of the music is bad it's just sorta been done, turned over and been done to a scorch done-been-done. But I bought it because this antique-type surfing music had gotten a five-star rating. What is great about this cd is the terminology of "the day" type inside the pamphlet. No joke! I'm giving my copy away, in search of harder, faster surf music i.e.,the background music to boarders, on the new cable show, on foxsports---54321.This other stuff is too nostalgic and makes me gag.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Surf Music Compilation!.......2001-04-11

Yes, there are LOTS of surf music compilations available on CD these days; most that I've come across are decent, but seem to have lots of mediocre "filler" songs in between the truly hep classics like "Miserlou" or "Pipeline." This rings true even with solid groups like The Ventures or, the abovementioned group, The Challengers. This particular Challengers collection is especially good if you are new to the surf music sound, and wish to find a strong album put out by one specific group. The variety is diverse in this collection, starting off with the peppy "Lanky Bones" (in my opinion, one of the under-appreciated surf guitar tunes!), going into a misty Tel-Star (sheer nostalgic bliss for early baby-boomers!), and following with 28 more strong tunes. Great versions/covers of the classics are there:Pipeline, Penetration, Mr. Moto (Moto is a particularly interesting surf tune if you listen to various groups' versions; same song, same melody, yet each group that covers this particular song puts a noticeably different instrumental spin on the piece. This version is one of my favorites as the guitar dominates the song, but a cool saxophine highlights the melody a half way through the piece), and lesser known (albeit fabulous!) songs like "Roller Derby" (a methodical but cutting guitar tune, similar to "Bullwinkle") K-39 and Cruel Sea. If there is a weakness to this album, it can only be if you could do without those "Almost Muzak" surf hits like "Lonely Bull," "The Work Song" or "Telstar." Although straight Muzak makes me ill, I do enjoy the majority of surf/department-store tunes. They are present on this CD, but not in a big honking dose! If you are a surf music fan, this CD is a must! If you're looking for just one solid surf CD for your collection, I would readily rank this on the top 5.

Return of the Killer A's is by no means a farewell to 13 years of pioneering metal. Rather, it's an assemblage of classics, B-sides, and covers that sums up their career. Scott Ian and bandmates cowrote the 1980s speed-metal bible in an era when most bands were fixated with hairspray, but the band persevered through metal's lean years. They defied convention by becoming one of the first metal acts to gain mass appeal with their reworking of Public Enemy's anthem "Bring the Noise." Their humorous "hit," "I'm the Man," is also here along with such mosh-pit faves as "Antisocial," "Indians," and a sprawling punk-enraged cover of Joe Jackson's "Got the Time." More recent tunes such as the Pantera-like "Hi Pro Glu" and "Crush" are included alongside a version of the Temptations' "Ball of Confusion," with early vocalist Joey Belladonna and current frontman John Bush sharing vocal duties. --Shanthi Sivanesan

4 out of 5 stars Indians rocks! If only the rest of the songs were that good..........2006-05-29

This is a good compilation of Anthrax songs, with some cool tracks on it. However, it's not everything a fan could ever want. Caught in a Mosh, Armed and Dangerous, In My World, Be All End All, and anything from the first album are conspicuously missing, and some atrocious Al Jourgensen remixes were included. The songs that were included, though...

Bring the Noise 6/10 - Even some quality rapping can't save this track from being more of a "Charlie Benante and Public Enemy" song than an Anthrax and Public enemy song. In other words, TURN UP THE GUITARS! Seriously, you can barely hear them.

Only 8/10 Cool song with that circular chorus and one of John Bush's best performances - you can see why Metallica offered him the job as singer.

Potter's Field Remix 5/10 BORING. Seriously, this sucks. Crappy remixes like this one are the reason your CD player has a skip button.

Ball of Confusion 9/10 Not only did they choose a great cover song, John Bush and Joey Belladonna's vocals (on the same song!) go together perfectly. They should think about becoming a two-singer band.

Crush 6/10 Unnecessary. This song should have been taken off and replaced with any of the above-mentioned missing songs.

Room for One More 9/10 A great song, and another reason why Sound of White Noise was better than many of the Belladonna-era albums. (State of Euphoria, I'm looking at you...)

        Inside Out 5/10 SNORE.....

Hy Pro Glo Remix 4/10 Terrible. Jourgensen really butchers the song, making it sound robotic.

Fueled 7/10 Another one that should have been replaced.

Among the Living 9/10 Now this is what I'm talking about. Wild punk breaks, a marching chorus and riff to match, and a good vocal performance, and well... this song didn't get any worse from the last time you heard it.

Got the Time 9/10 This fun, frantic Joe Jackson cover (check out the original!) also has one of my favorite moments in it, specifically, the the "two three go!" in the chorus. It's just plain fun.

Indians 10/10 Best song on the greatest hits compilation? I think so! From the beautiful Thin Lizzy twin leads at the beginning to the mournful chorus and hard-charging verses, this is THE perfect Anthrax song.

Antisocial 8/10 Doesn't stand up to Anthrax's original songs, but as covers go, it's a good one.

I'm the Man 8/10 So what if it's the radio edit. It's still hilarious.

        Madhouse 9/10 MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I Am the Law 8/10 Cheesy lyrics about Judge Dredd don't make this song any worse.

Although they never achieved the same level of fame as Megadeth, Metallica or Slayer, they still made a significant contribution to metal. And in the end, that's what it's about.

5 out of 5 stars A Must Have for Anthrax fans and fans of classic metal bands........2006-03-06

The title speaks for itself: Return of the Killer A's: The Best of Anthrax. These are the songs that made Anthrax one of the best classic metal bands of all time. They are one of the First Four original metal bands that set the standard for the rest of em, including Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth.

This album has what you need to get into Antrax if you are new to them, and/or new to metal. It is essential if you are not new. 'nuff said.

The last song on the list: I am the Law, is one of the greatest songs of all time, regardless of genre.

You could buy another cd, or a different Anthrax cd, but then you wouldn't have this one.

        3 out of 5 stars Okay compilation.......2005-03-25

Anthrax is a great thrash metal band. They have MANY good songs, a lot more than the sixteen tracks here. While it is lacking, it has some good, redeeming factors. How does this stack up? Read on to find out.

        PROS:
-You get many of Anthrax's best works on one CD.
        -It's a cheap compilation.
-Almost fills the limit you can fit on a CD.
-Has new songs. (i'll review them before I finish this review)

        CONS:
-WHERE THE F**K IS CAUGHT IN A MOSH?!?!?!?!?!??!?!
-Doesn't have songs from all of Anthrax's album.
-Has the RADIO EDIT of I'm The Man.

        THE NEW SONGS:
        3. Potter's Field (Remix)-5/5-A great song gets a great remix.
        4. Ball of Confusion-5/5-HOLY CRAP!!! Joey Belladonna, John Bush AND Danny Lilker on the same track!?!?!?!?! 'Nuff said.
        8. Hy Pro Glo (Remix)-5/5-See track 3.

        Overall:
If you're new to Anthrax, DON'T buy any of their compilations, buy Among The Living.'Nuff said.

4 out of 5 stars PRETTY COOL ANTHRAX COMPILATION........2004-01-18

I believe that this is a good compilation which has many of this bands classic hits.It is not perfect because it is missing some really good songs, but then again what compilations out there are ever perfect. If you dont have all their albums then this is a good place to start.METAL RULES!!!

        5 out of 5 stars no title.......2003-11-22

this is a solid cd. i would give it 4 1/2 stars, but there are no halves. the only reason it doesnt get a full fledged 5 is cuz its missing a few really good songs from stomp 442 that were replaced with lesser (in my opinion) songs. this is a great cd from start to finish. my personal favorites are inside out, im the man, bring the noise, got the time, and most certainly fueled. hope you enjoy it as much as i do.

3 out of 5 stars not quite the best of bounty killer.......1999-02-28

This album is must have for new bounty fans. However longtime bounty fans already have all of these tracks if they have bought his albums in the past. I would rate the album as only being decent. Some of the tracks on the album I don't feel should have been on a best of album for bounty killer. for example " gal" and "you'll never Know". Also what happened to Living Dangerously, that song definately should have been on this album. I know" Mi caa Beleive Mi eyes" is farely new, but most would already consider that as one of his all time best songs. Also missing "Fed up ", "suspense", "seek god". Not a bad album, but could have been better.

4 out of 5 stars Good album, bounty's popularity has clouded his music........1999-02-01

For all raggae fans, this album is a must, but I'm not going to give it 5 stars, as being a classic. His lyrics are good, the beat is smooth, and it is slightly reminiscant of Bob Marley. The problem is this. Bounty has become the most popular raggae artist in North America, and I think that he made this album to be a croud pleaser. Bounty tried to make it good, when normally, his wonderful music speaks for itself. He was defintevely trying to aim the arrow too hard. Still, I have to credit him for his still good music, but I think he should leave the popularity side out of this.
