5 out of 5 stars An Underrated Group from the Disco Era.......2007-01-16

The unique sound of the Silver Convention made their tunes among the slickest of the disco era. Thirty years later, they remain just so and recall the best memories of the mid 70s. This is a must have for any serious disco collection.

5 out of 5 stars Finally..........2006-12-28

a great Silver Convention with some of their best songs digitally remastered and even Telegram (on most of the other Greatest Hits CD, it seems it got straightly recorded from the old Vinyl) sounds superb. There's quite a few Silver Convention CD's around and if you're a fan, then i do recommend (besides this great CD here) you also the following ones:

1. Get up and boogie with Silver Convention - The Greatest Hits from the UK on the Music Club Label with 15 Songs
2. Silver Convention from Japan on the Victor Label with loads of Songs nowhere else to find than on this CD like The Boys From Liverpool ad Summernights etc
3. Greatest Hits from Canada on the Unidisc Label also with loads of songs u won't find anywhere else like Acuestate Conmigo or Dancing In The Aisle

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars NONE of them are originals.......2005-06-17

Just got this based on earlier commentators here claiming the Silver Convention songs were the originals. I should have known better.

I happen to know Fly Robin Fly very well. The two Silver Convention hit songs (Fly Robin Fly and Get Up and Boogie) are close enough to legit so that a dj could play them at a disco bash and not catch any flak, but the fact is that the vocalists are not the original singers, the voices and the vocalisms are subtly different . Anyone can tell by getting the originals and comparing. The difference is gross and instantly noticeable with the KC tracks, Silver Convention tracks are also bootlegged, just better.

This is a fraud. Avoid it!

3 out of 5 stars Low Budget CD!.......2005-03-27

I agree with the previous reviewer: the KC songs are NOT the originals, but Silver Convention songs are the familiar versions. The only thing I want to add is if you want this album, don't pay more than a normal "low budget CD" price. If you are a huge KC & The Sunshine Band fan and are actually looking for "potential demos" or something different of their familiar hits, then get this (I'm thinking that maybe these songs WERE demos at one time). It contains no liner notes, no pictures, nor lyrics.

2 out of 5 stars Beware of the Sunshine Band re-records.......2002-04-13

I kept looking at this CD as I went by the discount rack. I've had a KC and The Sunshine Band CD for ages and I've always wanted the two major hits by Silver Convention ("Fly Robin Fly" and "Get Up And Boogie") and they were on this CD. Well, time kept passing and the CD kept sitting on the shelf. So I grabbed it and went out to the truck and put it in the player. Looking at the CD cover information, I noticed the tracks were licensed from another company. Hmmm, then the first notes of "Get Down Tonight" started......re-record. Dang! Skimmed through the rest of the KC tracks, yep, re-records. OK, jump to track six and Silver Convention. I didn't feel totally ripped off. These were the original recordings and presented with good fidelity.

If you are buying this CD for both groups and you know the difference between the originals and re-records, you will be sorely disappointed. If, like me, you want those two Silver Convention songs, then go for it, although the price point may be a little steep for these two great songs, which are full length by the way and not edited down to single length. "Fly" clocks in at 7:44 and "Boogie" at 7:51.

5 out of 5 stars The best songs of the 70's........2001-05-23

These songs are the best of the 70's DISCO era that will never be back again from K C & THE SUNSHINE BAND and SELVER CONVENTION.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Silver Convention.......2007-03-11

I had expected that the songs in this CD to be the original versions on from the various albums. However, they were the extended dance versions. Fine for a dance, less so for listening as many lyrics were chopped out in favour of melody. Still ok though.

5 out of 5 stars One of The 70's Albums To Own!.......2007-01-26

The album contains some extended favorites like "Lady Bump, Fly, Robin, Fly and Save Me." I'm not sure if there are still longer versions of the first 3 songs. I guess I have to buy the other album which contains San Francisco Hustle. Though it lacks some liner notes, it's still a nice album.

2 out of 5 stars a CD loaded with mind-blowingly banal, unimaginative disco.......2005-06-12

You've really got to be NUTS about disco to be in love with this disc. This Silver Convention "Greatest Hits" is a 14 track compilation running over 70 minutes--that might sound generous on the surface, but track after track has obnoxious vocals, ultra-lame cut-and-paste lyrics, and almost everything is excruciatingly overlong. The corny, poorly sung disco-ballad "Spend the Night With Me" has no business running on for over 9 minutes when it's made its "point" perfectly clear in under 3 & 1/2. "Lady Bump" has grating vocal screeches and is mercilessly repetitive like nearly everything. It seems that the disc mostly sticks to full-length versions opposed to single edits, but with so many ridiculously protracted songs, this isn't exactly a good thing. There's a stultifying lack of variety--track after track reuses the formula of endlessly repeating knuckleheaded catchphrases that are pompously sung, mixed with swooping string arrangements that have grown to be annoyingly formulaic in the extreme by the end of the disc. "Dancing In the Aisle" does have a cool bass line, but its marred by annoying vocals and lame sound effects, plus it features a toothless rewrite of the `B' section of "Fly Robin Fly". Just when you think it can't get any worse, at track 10 we come to "I Like It", one of the lamest tunes on the disc which is saying a LOT, and it's followed by "No No Joe" which features an absolutely appalling and cringe worthy `voiceover' of a woman seemingly being raped. There's more ridiculous sound effects on "Tiger Baby"--instead of just having the 'tiger' sounds at the beginning of the track, they get repeated time and again, and it's overkill. The rare attempts at mixing up the formula result in the syrupy ballad "Thank You Mr. D.J." and the ultra-corny `Mexican`-flavored "Acuestate Conmigo". The disc finally ends with "You've Got What It Takes" which has a whispered chant over a two-note lick that's so brain-fryingly repetitive it sounds like a broken record. All that said, you might be wondering what this disc has to offer beyond being a vehicle to annoy the hell out of somebody. Well, "Fly Robin Fly", which was a huge hit (the single of it was a #1 US hit and went gold) is fantastic--for once, the vocals are actually fun and not annoying, and it's gloriously atmospheric with its dashes of wah-wah and electric piano, and has a brilliant string arrangement--in other words, everything seems to be in perfect place. "Get Up And Boogie (That's Right)" was also a smash US hit (the single of it also went gold), and it's undeniably catchy as well with cool piano and clavinet playing and more great orchestration. Naturally, these are the first two tracks on here, and once they've passed, you're in for a mind-blowingly tedious experience.

4 out of 5 stars Great Collection.......2003-11-30

Silver Convention is best known for "Fly, Robin Fly" and "Get Up and Boogie (That's Right)" in the United States. I know that the group was very popular in Europe. This collection is fine, but it may depend on what songs you want. In this album you will find songs such as "Thank You Mr. DJ" and "Dancing in the Aisle", 2 songs that are not included in the "Best of" disco series. There is enough worthy material to get this album if you can find it.
