Very soulful.......2005-07-26

This is a very early album in the Hed Kandi series. It was released in late 1998. Nu Cool is what started it all! Unfortunately, they don't make it anymore. The cd is filled with soulful jams that are nice to just chill out and listen to. It's a sexy compilation! Highlights include Here Comes The Sun by Hit The Boom, Jesse by Mother Earth, Part of the Process by Morcheeba, Erykah Badu's Next Lifetime, and many others. It'll keep the party going for hours.

Nu Cool - Just Chillin'.......2000-10-01

I was lucky enough to stumble upon this disc and I've turned all my friends onto it since then. Disc One is outstanding from start to finish. Stellar tracks include "Here Comes the Sun" from Hit the Boom, "Roll With Me" by Blacknuss, "Time" by S-Tone Inc. and "Blow Your Mind" from Jamiroquai. Disc Two is equally as good, featuring incredible tracks like "Donna" by Dust, "Jesse" from Mother Earth, "Spiritual Love" by Urban Species and "Table For Two" by Four 80 East. This record has started me on a quest to find CD's by many of the artists featured. The grooves are smooth and the tunes are tight. Enough jams to keep your party moving for hours! A must buy.

the best cd of all time will never leave my cd player........2003-06-24

This is without a doubt the best purchase i have ever made. i am an import obsessed type of person and I cannot picture a more perfect match.
I found this cd when i was browsing sam goody at their overpriced import section. (I search there then get it on-line.)
I found a CD that attracted me at first because of its awesome illustration. when i went home without it, i soon regretted it and checked on-line for samples. that was it, i had to get it. so i did. the smartest move EVER!!

Whe I popped it in, i was instantly impressed. I love this type music. Every song was superbly crafted. The first CD was more mainstream, but still seductively underground. The second CD was certainly a bit darker and more fun. The songs drifted from great piano rifts ("Learn to give") the innocently Bjork-esque songs ("Under the water") and to classic re-workings ("The Message") ("I See you Baby). This was certainly the best thing i have ever done for myself, as it fits every mood. Don't think you can stop at one, though. I just got Disco Kandi 1 today and I know that Disco Kandi 2 and Nu Cool 3 are soon to follow.

Very "Cool.".......2003-01-06

On "Nu Cool," the folks at Hed Kandi give the same lethal dose of disco jams, but this time with a different twist. Many of the cuts on these two CDs feature the Latin flava of Masters at Work (Kenny Dope Gonzales and Little Louie Vega), who remix a good handful of the stuff on this fourth installment of the Nu Cool series. Hats off to Stephanie Mills for the delectable "Latin Lover," while Mondo Grosso gets things right with the memorable "Vibe PM." Both of these tracks get the Masters at Work treatment. Not that MAW totally dominate the set, mind you. Deep Dish goes full throttle in their electrifying remix of Brother Brown's "Under the Water," which keeps the disco ball spinning in all of its ten minutes. For those craving for a little mid-tempo flava, Fatboy Slim (Norman Cook) gives us a re-working of Groove Armada's "I See You Baby," while Jenny Devito stands out in the funky "Season of the Witch." Mark Doyle, who compiles these CDs, not only knows his dance music, but he also makes very tasteful and smart choices on this impressive collection. "Nu Cool" is certainly an apt title for a disc this blazingly good.

Great dance music!.......2002-11-10

Hed Kandi's series of dance compilations is awesome, to say the least. I recently discovered this set while browsing at a record store in Hollywood, and bought "Nu Cool Vol. 4" and "Deeper". Both are excellent collections that showcase the sexiest and funkiest house music. Disc 1 is a nonstop party filled with the latest UK 2-step garage anthems. Moloko's "The time is now" is given a Jungle remix, while Brother Brown's "Under the water" and De'Lacy's "Hideaway" sound as bright and sexy as ever. Disc 2 is more uptempo, with Summerland's "Soul mate", Spanky Wilson's "Sunshine of your love" and Groove Armada's "I see you baby" being the highlights. Overall, a worthwhile collection of dance tunes in a hip double digipak packaging. I will definitely be checking out more of Hed Kandi's releases.

Cooler than cool.......2000-06-21

The cool factor on Hed Kandi's fourth installment in the phenomenal Nu Cool series is through the roof. Mark Doyle and the kids at Hed Kandi really know how to pick em. Disk one features the cream of the crop in sweet, sweet soulful garage. This is the disk you'll want to put in while primping and preening before your night on the town. It opens with the chic and sophisticated "Misunderstanding" by Valerie Etienne. Etienne's creamy vocals bounce lightly above a sublime arrangement. On the second track, Louie Vega and the folks at MAW pump magic into the otherwise forgettable "Latin Lover" by Stephanie Mills. There isn't a bad track on this disk, but there are some that seem to really stand out. There's the pared down organic version of Tiefshwartz's Music, the catchy disco-tinged "The Time is Now" by Moloko, and the sweet and soulful "The Inner Side" by Shazz featuring Ron Trent. But the one track that truly shines on disk one, and the only reason you probably need to buy this disk, is the phenomenal "Under the Water" by Brother Brown. The boys at Deep Dish slowly build this track, holding the vocals off until about three minutes in. Then a strangely haunting, awe-inspiring female voice comes on lamenting the loss of a lover. House music, or any music for that matter, doesn't get any better than this. This is a graceful, elegant track that can bring you to tears by its sheer beauty.

Disk two is for those in the know. If deep-house is your thing and you have an insatiable appetite for complex, adventurous arrangements with soulful determination then look no further. The real stunner on this one is a ten-minute triplicate of Isolee's Beau Mot Plage. This is the track that DJ's seem to love but don't know what to do with. Other notables are Summerland's "Soul Mate", Stunt Nuts "The Message", and the extraordinary "Tribute to Fela" by Masters at Work (an apropos title for these guys). This track is an 11minute opus that will completely blow your mind. MAW continue to prove that dance music can be profound, intelligent and cathartic.

All in all, Hed Kandi is your one stop source for delectable house music. Mark Doyle culls the globe for the best in house and puts it all together in a chic little package. Beware though, you might start craving Louis Vuitton luggage and Ferragamo shoes after just one listen.
