Love the soundtrack, BUT..........2007-03-27
I love the soundtrack, BUT one very important song is missing -- the one where JT and Flash have a singing "duel" and come down into the audience to focus on one young lady who is there with her husband. Does anyone know how I can get it?
Rare find.......2007-02-02
Great CD, equally hard to find. There is something about the selection of songs taken from the movie. If you have the movie, it is a must to own the CD.
Five Heartbeats.......2007-01-25
Wonderful C.D.!!! Songs from the 60's and 70's are my favorites. I'm proud to add the 5 Heartbeats to my collection.
Great Movie, Good Soundtrack...........2004-03-22
Back in 1992 after I saw the film, I bought the soundtrack. After hearing the songs and realizing that the songs from the movie differed a little, I hooked a cable to my vcr and recorded the songs from the movie onto a tape. I then recorded the soundtrack onto the other side of that tape, so I essentially had both the songs from the movie and the soundtrack on the same tape. I even recorded "I feel Like Going On"?? the song at the end that Eddie sings. I just love that movie. Chokes me up each time.
OK but!!!.......2004-02-21
I love all the music but I wish they would had did the Billy Valentine version on the CD of a heart is a heart for love which is the actual version in the movie. also I like america love Patti Labelle however! I wish that the young lady voice who sang the song or background track We havn't finished yet with Robert townsend in the movie had recored it on the CD Patti put to much over kill in it. and who is it that did Baby stop running around? that was awesome!!! and yes a lot of songs that were in the movie should have been on the CD like Baby dolls stuff etc. but nevertheless is all good. the movie is awesome!!!

Two Superb Groups.......2005-07-14
The Heartbeats and Shep and the Limelites were two groups with the same great lead singer, James "Shep" Sheppard. Both groups have great vocal harmonies and produced several chart hits, the most famous of which are "A Thousand Miles Away" and the answering "Daddy's Home". However, Doo Wop lovers will not be disappointed with any of the songs on this CD. Each cut is terrific, and at 12 bucks, this CD is a fantastic bargain. Listen to the samples of "Crazy for You", "Darling How Long", "Down on My Knees" and "People are Talking" to hear Shep and his partners at their best. If you love Doo Wop and glorious singing, you can't go wrong with this disk.
For Doo-Wop lovers.......2004-10-07
Other than the Spaniels, I think the Heartbeats was one of the greatest doo-wop groups. This CD is a collectors item for sure. I love "You Way", "Crazy for you" and of course "A Thousand Miles Away". They later became Shep & The Limelights, but in my opinion, the earlier songs were better. This CD is a "must have". Doo-wop lovers will be satisfied for sure.
best of the heartbeats.......2000-09-16
Terrific! They don't play 'A Thousand Miles Away' enough---seems we always here 'Daddy's Home',which is great too, yet was an 'answer to 'A Thousand Miles Away'=the better of the two for sure! Thankfully I remember the Heartbeats and their great song! The rest of this album seems like a resl treat too.
This is a classic!.......1999-06-30
"The Best of the Heartbeats" is a classic! The romantic lyrics, the perfect harmony, and the wonderful lead singer, "Shep" all make this CD appealing to listeners of all ages and tastes.

Customer Reviews:
I thought I saw you, out on the avenue...........2007-05-24
I have always felt that Translator's debut, "Heartbeats and Triggers," was a classic of the 80's that somehow escaped the plaudits it so richly deserved. Appearing roughly the same time as REM's debut, it was one of the groups that heralded the oncoming wave of bands to concentrate on acoustic and more "rootsy" sounds. But unlike the southern mood that predominated REM, Translator mixed both San Franciscan and a distinct Beatles sensibility.
Translator's signature song, "Everywhere That I'm Not," captured this mixture perfectly. It's a super-catchy downbeat song that encapsulated that period of the 80's. This album was released in the height of the Reagen years, when many of us feared he would either throw us into a war or back us into one. So the mixture of optimism/cynicism the song evoked was flawless and timeless. Robert Darlington's terrific "Everywhere" was written for John Lennon; he wrote it the day after Lennon's murder as a mixture of his feelings about that event and other things he was going through at that time to also capture a perfect mood.
Translator had two vocalist/songwriters - Darlington and Steve Barton - that meshed in a beautifully brittle sort of way, again giving that band their edge. There was the anger of "Sleeping Snakes" (an anti-war song) and "Nothing Is Saving Me," but also hopeful songs of love and want, like "My Heart Your Heart" and "Everything You See." There isn't a single lesser song on "Heartbeats And Triggers," which is something many eighties bands of this era can't lay claim to. Given the number of artists that eventually adopted this kind of sound (including Tranlslator's 415 labelmates Red Rockers and Wire Train), "Heartbeats and Triggers" can be given a lot of credit for getting there first. I can't believe it took so long for the band's library to finally make it CD. Get them all while you still can.

Customer Reviews:
I love this CD!!.......2006-10-26
It has such beautiful music. I first heard "Tribal Hymn" on XM satellite radio and then I bought this CD. I'm a huge, huge fan of Enigma's music and this is very similar to their music. This CD is mostly instrumental with just a few lyrics here and there, just like Enigma's music, and it's just so uplifting to listen to.
The one CD everyone should have........2004-10-22
Scenic Listening is pure phonic imagery. Oil on canvas for anyone who has an ear. Places reachable only by kevin Wood's music. Pianistically dusted studio perfection driven by throaty accompaniments and amazing rhythm. It conjures a spiritual gallery of the most realistic paintings you will ever hear. Scenic Listening is a great album and a genre by itself.
Awesome!!.......2004-10-18
I was fortunate enough to hear one of Kevin's songs on an NPR radio show and was hooked. His style is unique, the music is wonderful, and I can't get enough. Really looking forward to him completing his next CD cause by then the laser will have burned a hole through my Scenic Listening disc. This is a CD you have to listen to in order to appreciate it!!
David Wood's music: AWSOME!.......2004-08-05
Move over Enya, Loreena McKennitt, and New Age music - the dawn of a spiritually uplifting genre has arrived! The title tells it all. Scenic Listening will take you to the beautiful forests, the nightime deserts, the soothing ocean waves, and the majestic snow covered mountains. Nature and music has never sounded so wonderful! I strongly recommend this CD to everyone! We can hardly wait for David's second CD! It too will be greatly received, I am sure!
Awesome Instrumental!!!.......2004-01-18
I have been addicted to this CD for months. I heard one of the songs on the NEW AGE satellite channel and thought I'd give the CD a chance. The entire CD is awesome. The music reminds me of Enigma, Deep Forest, and Medicine Woman (except no fruity bird sounds). Sure enough, as I checked out some stuff about Kevin Wood, it said his influences were: Enya, Patrick O'Hearn, Deep Forest, Sacred Spirit, Enigma, and George Winston. If you like the sounds of those musicians, you'll love this CD. The piano pieces are exceptional and every song has a good rhythm/beat. If you take a chance, ENJOY!

Heavy indeedd - just like early Santana meets Lonnie Smith.......2006-08-02
Yeah people give 5 stars on this site real easy, but this one is well-earned. A major inspiration for Fela, Pino was Africa's answer to James Brown. The last six tracks are a continuous live show, which is awesome. An electrified audience, great keyboard work, and extended "Afro Soca Soul" grooves reminiscent of Santana's early work with Greg Rolie. Any afrobeat fan needs this. And if you're looking to get past Fela and see what else was going on in west Africa at the time, this will further hook you into the world beat web.

Amazon.com essential recording
Their previous album, the fine but underappreciated Love Over and Over, had found the McGarrigles nodding cautiously toward more explicit pop and rock accents, but their cult-sized audience was likely hoping for a return to the more acoustic atmosphere of earlier records. At first listen, then, Heartbeats Accelerating is a modest shock, laced with coproducer Pierre Marchand's (Sarah McLachlan) moody synthesizers and a slightly chillier feel to the album's overall sound. Yet those modern elements ultimately work, underlining the songs' more fatalistic perspective, especially on the set's bittersweet zenith, "I Eat Dinner." In her inventory of a divorced mother's solitary meal, Kate McGarrigle captures no less than the death of romance, her very restraint making its dry-eyed contemplation of life after love quietly devastating. --Sam Sutherland
Album Details
The Sister's Seventh Album was Released on Former Tangerine Dream Keyboardist Peter Baumann's Private Music Label. Their Sound was Remarkably Different from their Earlier Work with the Addition of Synthesizers and a More Electronic Background Cushioning their Tales of Love, Loss and Life. The Title Track was Covered by Linda Ronstadt on her "Winter Light" Album. Critics Took Particular Note of "i Eat Dinner", a Haunting Masterpiece Reflecting the Loneliness of a Failed Relationship.
Customer Reviews:
In Their Prime.......2004-04-24
Heartbeats Accelerating (or, considering the content of most of these songs, Heartbreaks Accelerating) dates to Kate and Anna McGarrigle's best years. Their writing draws from memories of youth, experiences as adults and parents, and collisions with mortality. Their harmonies are complex, buoyant or delicate, and backed with quirky arrangements, often featuring strings or liberal use of the accordion, not exactly a front line pop music instrument north of the Rio Grande. The best songs here are Heartbeats (more prominently recorded by Linda Ronstadt), Love Is (covered by Emmylou Harris), I Eat Dinner, and, my personal favorite since our last child just moved out of the house, I'm Losing You. I listen to this CD and the later Matapedia and think it is too bad the sisters have over the last years faded somewhat into the background in their performances, ceding space to their (to my mind) less interesting children.
A Few More Years Pass.......2003-11-25
This album represents a maturing on the part of this team from their original folk roots. This album is tightly conceived, and if it lakes the brightness of their first album, it has gained a great deal of depth and musicality. Also notable is their continued use of material from Phillippe Tatarchef (Rainbow Ride and D.J. Serenade), whose lyrics always surprise and intrigue. There is an intelligence in their musical choices that belies the apparent simplicity of their songs.
In a way Heartbeats Accelerating is about the exquisite contrast between the excitement of the title cut and the anguish of I Eat Dinner - both songs that are, at the core about love that is somewhere else, but one talks about anticipation and other about loss and regret. The McGarrigle's use this tension brilliantly right through to the final chorus of St. James Hospital. Love blooms and proceeds inevitably to some final injury.
The arrangements are often quite subtle and varied. The two voices, with their nature slightly edgy twang, can move from French chanson styling to pure country without missing a beat. Always though, they are two gentle voices that stand out, even in a storm. This is a sensitive, if somewhat sad album that stand up well to repeated listening.
Such sweet sorrow.......2002-12-27
This masterpiece of an album kicks off with the catchy, uptempo title track which is a celebration of romantic love, but the very next song I Eat Dinner is a beautiful description of loneliness and resignation in the absence of romance. The lilting Rainbow Ride is another gem, a melodic song of hope and longing. Throughout the album the voices are pure and gripping, and the harmonising divine, as on the tender Love Is and the poignant I'm Losing You that deals with the feelings of parents seeing a child growing up, in the most poetic lyrics and imagery. Another favorite of mine is Leave Me Be, a very sad song also about the loss of a child. There's an overall feel of sadness to these songs, with the exception of the title track, but it's the most beautiful sorrow you'll ever hear.
This is simply one of the best albums of the past 15 years.......2002-03-11
Leave Me Be is one of the many outstanding tracks on this superb album from the McGarrigles. Leave me Be is heartbreaking and wonderfully written and performed, I just can't get enough. I just got this album last week and I have been on heavy rotation on my CD walkman ever since. If you have not heard them yet, you are in for some of the most amazing music you have ever heard. Beg...or borrow!
Heartbeat Accerating.......2000-08-01
I think that Heartbeat Accerating. Since it is top 100. I think that Anna McGarrigle should of got the best award for that song. I think that Kate McGarrigle should of had award for best songwriter.

Cute Show, for collectors........2006-07-24
This is a cute show to say the least. Not one that we will ever see on broadway, but good for small theaters. The lyrics are not to bad, although at times there are some strange things going on. I would suggest this show to any collectors, but not as a gateway into musical theater. A wonderful alternative would be "I Love You, Your Perfect, Now Change." My favorite song is "Old Habits Die Hard."
Really 3.5 stars.......2000-01-13
I heard about this show when a local community theater did it. Though I could not necessarily relate to a woman going through a mid-life crisis, I could appreciate the music. True, these are not all songs you will be hearing on a "Best of Broadway"compilation, but they a solid melodies with above average lyrics. The best example is "Dance" which tells the story of a couple who begin to drift apart after years of marriage. Also of note are "Putting Things Away" and "The Rose" (yes, it is the Bette Midler song). This is not an essential CD, but it is good for middle-aged married couples, or the person who has every other Broadway CD.
