Not a diva in the traditional sense, Lesley Garrett is establishing herself as a kind of musical Michael Barrymore. A comfortable and generous host, she lets young Ramón Vargas shine alongside herself in "Parigi o cara" from La Traviata while Ladysmith Black Mambazo provides an interesting contrast to Garrett on the closing track. Undeniably, Garrett is happiest alone in front of the band, be it the BBC Concert or Grimethorpe Colliery. Among many seamless arrangements are a delightfully schmaltzy version of "La Vie en rose" and the beautiful new Karl Jenkins composition "He Wishes for the Clothes of Heaven." Her take on Handel's "Tornami a vagheggiar" is frank and confident, though lacking in intimacy and ensemble play. "Bel raggio lusinghier" from Rossini's Semiramide is flawless, but Cole Porter's "Night and Day" sure don't swing. Garrett takes her widening audience on a distinctly unrocky road. Making sure she won't have to wait too long for her next gold, she makes the noises we like to hear, and therein lies the secret of her success. --Yngvil V.G.Customer Reviews:
Her voice is one of the best, listen for yourself.......2000-12-07
What a terrific voice Lesley has. She is probably one of the best keep secrets in the music world. She lives in England and that may explain why she has not been real popular here in the U.S.A. I think she is ready to make her mark her. All she needs to do is a lot of tours here and she will definately be noticed.
For this cd I was rather disappointed in her song selection. Lesley divided her material between classical and popular music. I have no doubt that Lesley is ideal for both venues, but I don't think it appropriate to mix the types of music.
On this cd I rate Lesleys' voice a perfect "10" but not the material used here.
You music fans out there, please allow Lesley to come into your heart with her song. It will be one of the best choices you have ever made.
Recommedation: Despite my one star rating, I think you should still buy this cd.
Best CD by her so far!.......2000-08-12
Best of Garrett's Performance--"You'll Never Walk Alone".......2000-06-11
Also, featured on this recording is the title track, "I will Wait For You" by Michael Legrand. I have Jessye Norman's version on Norman's "Lucky To Be Me" album and my ears agree that Garrett's version is much more surpassing than Norman's version. Purchase this item, you won't regret it!

Beautiful Voice - Beautiful Music.......2000-11-17
This record is also a great introduction to Sibelius songs, for those who are not already familiar with them. There are also wonderful recordings of Sibelius songs by Jorma Hynninen, Tom Krause and Anne-Sofie von Otter, that I highly recommend.

Progressive trance, the right side of cheesy..........2007-07-03
I'd actually bought this CD as the result of one of those "perfect partner" recommendations and, while I don't suppose it'll get as much wear as "Oid" by Space Manoeuvres [AKA Quivver], some similarities are there, notably on the dark, brooding, slow-brewing 1AD, which really hits the spot for me in the same way as Susumu Yokota's more electronic excursions or early FSOL. But anyone who can sneak a sample of a sound effect from cheesy gameshow Countdown (on Anagram) deserves kudos, I reckon. Worth a listen or five...

the art of making pure trance is back.......2005-05-11
Everyone of the tracks on this CD are energetic, well thought out, and a very happy and enlightening experience to listen to. It almost feels like Moogwai comes from the older school of trance producers such as Earth Nation and Cygnus X and you can hear very subtle elements passed on from those artists (as well as Jean Michel Jarre) into his beautiful and poetic style of trance. All of the tracks on this CD are very well driven by a healthy beat and the melodies are quite beautiful and at times complicated (a nice change). Next time you are going to buy a CD, forget all the mixes and pick up an artist who knows what he is doing; each track is extremely captivating and beautiful. Its a wonderful CD.
Intensely melodic, thoroughly engaging..........2005-04-20
This debut release by Moogwai is not a DJ mix, in that it does not consist of tracks selected and arranged in such a way that they mix and fade into each other. Rather, this CD contains some of Moogwai's older and current releases in their entirity. This approach is quite compatible with an artist debut CD, in which the premise is to provide the listener with a complete selection of the tracks produced by the artists from beginning to end. There are currently no samples available on this website to hear parts of the tracks on the CD, but at www.platipus.com (which is the website of the label to which this release is signed), samples of all the tracks can be found.
It may initially appear that there is an insufficient amount of content on this CD, with there being eight tracks (with the eigh being a bonus track), but as mentioned earlier, each track is provided as it sounds in its entirity, and each track is particularly long. The shortest track is 7:35 (The Nord Song), with the rest of the tracks residing between a little over eight and ten minutes. So, I assure you, there is pleanty of musical content here for you to listen to. I would categorize the types of tracks on this CD as some being progressive house with others being melodic trance (Tek-tonik's remix of Viola is pure melodic trance), but since Moogwai has quite a distinguishable sound, there tends to be elements both genres present in these tracks.
As for the quality of the tracks, each individual track is absolutely amazing in its own aesthetically unique respect, and each individual track has its own unique sound. As characteristic of Moogwai's productions, each track develops over a long period of time, with most of them gradually culminating to a highly rewarding climactic sequence, and Moogwai makes use of highly repetetive background effects to skilfully establish atmosphere and mood. "Neon", "Viola", and "Labyrinth" have all been released prior to this CD, (Neon- 2003, Viola- 2000, Labyrinth- 2001), with the rest of the tracks being fresh releases for this album.
The CD begins with Moogwai's dance-floor monster "Neon", an excellent and intense progressive house track that culminates in a massive climax with an awesome melody. "The Nord Song" is a more gentle and atmospheric track with some subltle bass-line changes. "Viola", an extremely popular track upon its release in 2000, pounds and pulsates with Moogwai's signature synthesizer sounds into its beautifully melodic climax before gently fading out.
"Anagram" is a tremendous track that gradually keeps developing and layering itself in atmospheric effects until it gently reaches its climax, in which it then takes that melody into a slightly different direction in the track. "1 AD" is definitely one of the most beautiful tracks on the entire release, with some nicely placed bass-line modifications integrated into an intense, enveloping atmospheric framework, with some eerie piano sequences. "Labirynth" is a track that sounds similar to Viola with respects to its background effects, with a slightly more agressive feel, and also has a beautifully developing melody.
The last of Moogwai's productions on this CD is his hauntingly beautiful "5 Wishes & More", with the beginning of the track presenting some very nice ambient textures before the kick-drum begins a little past the 1:30 mark. From that point onward, the track keeps developing and adding more layers, from an agressive bass-line to distinctive sound-effects, and more atmospheric textures. Close, to the 6:00 mark, the continuously developing melody comes to materialization, and the listener is provided with a highly gratifying climax when the melody becomes more prominent, the bass-line changes, and everything magnificently coalesces with each other when the kick-drum returns and takes the track in its new direction.
The bonus track is the Tek-tonik remix of "Viola", which is the first remix since the Armin van Buuren remix in 2000, and was released just this year, along with the Brisky remix. This is an absolutely stunning track that inundates the original with a fresh sound, and new life while simultaneously preserving its original melody that made "Viola" so distinguishable. The original version, however, will still always have its own unique place within the continuously growing spectrum of melodic trance.
When listening to a release by Moogwai, there is a consistent degree of anticipation when the track first begins and embarks upon its initial developmental sequences. You can tell that something intense and melodically special is about to occur, and that is the general sensation derived from listening to each of these tracks. There are some particular stand-outs on this release, but as I mentioned earlier, each individual track is exquisite and impressive in its own unique right. With tracks dating from 2000 to 2005, it is identifiable that Moogwai has kept and preserved his unique sound and further refined it, as is demonstrated by his most recent productions.
"5 Wishes & More" is a remarkable release that demonstrates Moogwai's production talents by providing the listener with older and current tracks, each of tremendously outstanding quality, and each with its own emotional effect. Listen to each track closely, in its entirity, and you will find something musically engaging in each.
