In my first experience of Gogol Bordello, a friend layed a track on me, had me listen to it, loud, headphones on, without any explanation. Which, I must say in retrospect was just wrong. This album requires a full Surgeon General's Warning, advising those with a proclivity towards sensory induced migraines or temporal lobe siezures to lay down the iPod and step away. I mean, I don't want to say this highly energetic music is bad, but I sure don't have the correct anti-siezure meds to get through it. So, enjoy. It's all yours.

I had never actually heard of Gogol Bordello until I read a review in a magazine about them. I decided to check them out because the idea of Gypsy Punk intrigued me. I'm usually up for any type of music so I didn't hesitate to try them out. I was glad I did. The music is all so infectious that it's hard not to like them. Song after song I never grew tired of the unique blend of all the ingredients that make this album something you wont come upon very often in life.

Some family music calls for cranking the volume and rocking out. Renee & Jeremy's calls for sitting cross-legged on the floor à la preschool circle time. This album was a "try and see" purchase but I love it. It makes great dinner music, great music to drift off to sleep with, or just nice background filler during social events needing a softer tone. It is not all solo piano music if that s what you are after; the other instruments blend very well however and don't challenge the piano playing. It is a piano album after all!

As it says....it is the "Most Relaxing Piano Album in the World...Ever..." Well, I haven't listened to all piano albums in the world, but I don't need to, this one is just perfect for me, and I think you will agree!

I would say the pianists' are extremely accomplished. At times, I would admit-it's a bit 'spine tingling'!

My favorite CD!.......2007-07-29

Van Cliburn is a master pianist, and this CD is pure listening enjoyment. I generally am not into clasical music, but this is fun. His working fingers convince me that they are not working. They are dancing, and they are having great fun. WONDERFUL!!

Music to my ears!.......2007-04-04

I bought this CD as a "treat" for my 16 year old son, who has just finished a homeschool music course for one of his electives. The last part of the course required listening to music from all the great composers, Baroque through contemporary periods, and identifying the more famous pieces by name and composer. He not only enjoyed the course, he now actually listens to this CD for his own enjoyment (when he's not playing 80's rock). What more could a mother ask for? (I'll tell you. I ask him to borrow it, it's lovely.)

Legend!.......2006-10-11

This is the greatest compilation of recordings ever made by the legendary pianist Van Cliburn. Although I am a cellist, I wear this cd out on a regular basis both at the office and home. I actually have an extra copy to play at the office. All of these recordings are superb in sound quality, performance and incredibly inspiring. The Schumann, Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Liszt pieces are stellar and my personal favorites. I only wish there were dvd's with Cliburn's performances for those of us too young to have seen him perform live. CD is a must-have for any classical music lover's collection.

I purchased this CD just after seeing him in person for two hours which was amazing in itself and this CD just carries on the magic that Ottmar has created. He and his band members play with their eyes shut so it is not hard for me to shut my eyes while listening to this CD and think I am on the 2nd row again. I totally recommend this CD to everyone that wants to be transported to an unbelievable place in the universe.

Luxurious Listning.......2006-12-22

It is hard to believe that ~One Guitar~ is just so...1 guitar...played by one human being.
Some how it seems the music melds back onto and into itself, making it's own simple elegant Flamenco symphony. It is clean, clear, smooth and immaculate. I found it most beneficial to leave it playing 24 hours a day in my room, while traveling, to think and dream by...very luxurious and healing to the senses. I find Ottmar Liebert to be an Artist worthy of the highest praise. Salute Sir! Only one thing would be more of a privilege to listen to, and that would be ~One Guitar~ in live Concert!

Music like no other.......2006-12-20

Every time I hear Ottmar's "One Guitar" it reaches me more deeply. This is not pop music that grabs you quickly and lets you go as fast. And though is the greatest of guitarists, the music flows like it comes as easily as breathing. This is music from his heart that goes into my heart and I long to hear it again and again. It's imposible to explain in words.. I'll never tire of it. It helps me feel.

Ottmar Liebert - "One Guitar".......2006-12-05

I've been a fan of Ottmar Liebert since the early 90's. My family and I recenty saw him live in Portsmouth, NH where he performed much of the music on "One Guitar." While I've been disappointed in live perfomances compared to the studio version of a cut, this gentleman performed every piece BRILLIANTLY. It's truly astounding to listen to such beautiful music, and to watch the person creating the music make it look so utterly easy.

This is an enchanting album...classic flamenco performed by the world's finest flamenco player. As an interesting aside, Ottmat Liebert is also quite an accomplished photographer. He ran a slide show with a random selection of his vast library of photos at the concert. It came off beautifully. If you ever get the chance to see him perform live, GO! If not, this album is about as good as flamenco gets!

This soundtrack offers a pretty standard mix of new songs, old chestnuts, and excerpts from the score (here by John Debney). On the new tip, Joss Stone and Patti LaBelle engage in an overheated battle of the divas on CD opener "Stir It Up," a bouncy piece of fluff that sounds more like Aretha Franklin circa "Freeway of Love" than classic soul. Other originals include Barenaked Ladies' "One Little Slip" (this movie's answer to Counting Crows' "Accidentally in Love" from Shrek 2) and the Cheetah Girls' peppy-but-bland cover of "Shake Your Tail Feather." But the real highlights are the songs performed by the movie's vocal cast, which includes Joan Cusack, Garry Marshall, Zach Braff, Steve Zahn, and Amy Sedaris. Their group cover of Elton John and Kiki Dee's "Don¹t Go Breaking My Heart," for instance, sounds as if half of them were drunk in the recording studio (and this is meant as a compliment.) Braff's a cappella version of "We Are the Champions" is smashing and Cusack and Zahn's take on the Spice Girls' "Wannabe" is completely demented. My husband bought the Chicken Little movie for our 3 year old (mostly to get us OFF the Cars movie that we all have memorized) and he fell in love with it! He likes to act out the scenes and loves the music. He loves this CD at night when he's going to bed. We all have to dance to One Little Slip (he knows all the words) and then we have to "shake our tail feathers" before he jumps in bed every night! I enjoy the cd too, so it's good for everyone!

My son loved the movie Chicken Little, so we decided to purchase this for him to listen to on his discman. He loves the soundtrack as much as the movie, which made it an awesome investment(especially since the soundtrack has many good singers that aren't too hard on the ears for the adult crowdes either). I bought the CD to accompany the movie. My four year old watches the movie everyday. When I gave her the CD, after listening to it nightly, she takes it to bed with her everynight where I have to pry it out of her hands after she falls off to sleep. A recording likely to delight enthusiasts and perplex the uninitiated, All One is a 54-minute, four-part suite rooted in devotional yoga and dedicated, as the liner notes explain, to the "Sacred Names...revealed to us by the Great Beings who manifest Truth." All One presents four essentially seamless tracks in which the Hare Krishna mantra is repeated over and over, yet with gradual fluctuations in musical context, ranging from a worshipful near-drone to a jangly, celebratory sort of pop. (Note: Absorbing so much lyrical repetition may require an especially enlightened state of mind.) Krishna Das, a native New Yorker born Jeffrey Kagel who embraced Indian spiritual pursuits in the late 1960s, is the production's unifying force, half-singing, half-groaning the names and eliciting joyful replies from a 70-voice choir in recurring call-and-response patterns. Among the recording's numerous participants are bassist and co-producer Walter Becker of Steely Dan, co-producer Jay Messina (who has worked with Aerosmith), and drummer Rick Allen of Def Leppard, though their contributions are transparent in the mix of many other musicians. Co-produced by Walter Becker, "All One" features a 20 instrument orchestra and 70 voices. Other musicians included on this recording are longtime Krishna Das sideman Ty Burhoe and guitarist/composer David Nichtern.

What a Mantra is for? This CD accomplishes it all! It hits all our senses with chanting, music, vibration and emotion, then, it frees your mind. You must try it. I have used this CD during driving, at home, at work...as a "tool", this Krishna Das CD does what my mala sometimes can't do, it empties my mind, it moves my emotions in a cathartic flow of tears, it makes me cry, smile and makes me realize how beautiful the World is inspite of all our shortcomings. This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
