5 out of 5 stars two parts Hennessy to one part Lovage.......2007-07-03

Great album, another offering to my iPod from the generous library of Principal Dondelinger. It's at least half tongue-in-cheek but it's all great. I agree with other reviewers who have described the parody as more homage than mockery. The tracks vary but there is a nice consistent feel throughout, so it really flows as an album. The title suggests one way to utilize this music, but I've found this music to have potential even beyond being the soundtrack to the connubial shake-n'-fake. For example, my iPod likes to throw on "Pit Stop" and "Lies and Alibis" when I am walking alone at dusk, rundown by the day and the humidity.

Just listen to it. It's pretty unique. And I love the picture on the cover; I think it might be one of my Dad's nameless cousins from the seventies.

1 out of 5 stars STOLEN MATERIAL.......2007-06-02

"Tea Time With Maseo" in this album contains recordings and words stolen from Alan Lorber's 1969 Groupies album.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing..........2007-03-12

The production of this album is truly amazing. While there's definitely a parody element, the music is still banging. Sexy, fun, and cool. Perfect "music to make love to your old lady by"

5 out of 5 stars weird but great.......2007-02-18

If you think that Deltron 3030 is the best hip-hop album of all time(like me) then you should definetly buy Lovage. Dan The Automator's(Nathaniel Merriweather) production is at its best, and combined with the DJ talents of Kid Koala(Deltron 3030), this album can't be beat. Also the strange combination of vocalists Mike Patton(Faith No More) and Jennifer Charles works perfectly. I totally slept on this album until recently, but this one is almost as perfect as Deltron.

5 out of 5 stars Great Songs, Great Style.......2007-01-27

I've always been a Patton's fan, and this is one of the finest works I've ever heard about him, it's a soft-progressive-rock ballad with a little touch of irony, it's a very nice piece of art, a masterpiece, indeed.

The celebratory spirit behind tribute albums doesn't suit every subject. More than a single swaggering rock star has come off as limp and self-loving, and thoughtful chanteuses have gone sappy or sour--which is why saluting the California garage punks of Sublime makes a lot of sense. For one thing, it's nearly impossible to screw up the collapsed band's sunny, to-hell-with-it vibe--its music is a mood encapsulated--and for another, any artist cool enough to take on one of its songs knows instinctively to embrace the ska sensibility and not skimp on energy. What we get with Look at All the Love, is a party with all the right props. No Doubt was an obvious choice and, on the disc's only live track, "DJ's," Gwen Stefani turns in a mid-speed sway-and-bobber; Jack Johnson chills on "Badfish/Boss DJ"; G. Love goes for funk-rock broke with "Greatest Hits"; and the artful Greyboy Allstars send "Doin Time" to jazz school. A single caveat: Hipsters who followed Sublime in its mid-90s heyday and have since had kids should order tiny earplugs with their copies. Fishbone does an admirable job with "Date Rape," but it's still as profane as ever. --Tammy La Gorce

Album Description

"An impressively diverse cast of musicians from a wide range of genres [show] just how much Sublime's music transcends classification ... nothing short of stellar." - ALL MUSIC GUIDE

"Deliciously eclectic." - CMJ

"A tribute to Sublime as big as Bradley Nowell's heart and as expansive as the band's musical vision." - OC WEEKLY

The evening of October 24, 2005 was one very special night in music. The Music Box at Fonda Theater played host to Look at All the Love We Found: A Tribute to Sublime LIVE, a benefit concert to honor and celebrate the legacy of one of most influential bands of the nineties as well as to raise funds for those in need. Artists like Los Lobos, Unwritten Law, Ozomatli, Blackalicious, Fishbone, and The Ziggens came together for one night only to put on a show for the ages. And, to top it off, many of the artists from the evening (as well as some surprise special guests) teamed up to belt out Sublime classics in the ultimate jam session. Now, everyone can relive that magical night with this special CD+DVD combo!

The audio CD contains never-before-heard covers of Sublime hits and fan favorites, from a brand-new studio recording of "Ebin" by The Banned with Chuck D (Public Enemy) to a rockin' live version of Fishbone's "Date Rape." These incredible tracks were not featured on the Look at All the Love We Found CD, and can only be found here!

The DVD features include a performance of "Pawn Shop" with original Sublime member Bud Gaugh on drums, a music video for Fishbone's version of "Date Rape," and backstage interviews with Los Lobos, MURS, Unwritten Law, and more. It also includes an in-depth photo slideshow and a behind-the-scenes look at the all-star jam rehearsal that included Stephen Perkins (Jane's Addiction), Ikey Owens (The Mars Volta), Eric Wilson (Sublime), and many more.

5 out of 5 stars Great mix or Genres.......2007-06-18

This album is great for anyone who loves Sublime, but isn't afraid to hear their songs in a new way. I especially love the remix of "Get Out" and Jack Johnson's version of "Bad Fish".

3 out of 5 stars Nice sentiment - poor execution.......2006-02-25

I bought this album on the recommendation of a friend after we had a conversation about Sublime... we both really liked Sublime's music and he told me how great this CD was, so I picked it up. Unfortunately, I can't agree that the CD is that "great." I enjoyed one or two tracks, and I really laud the effort that went into them - it's never easy to cover another band's hits. But some of the songs are just bad - and with most of them I know I'd rather just hear the actual version. If you like covers and want to hear a bunch of different bands pay tribute to a great band that is no more, pick up this CD. Otherwise, just put in "40 oz. to Freedom" or "Sublime" and listen to the masters at work.

3 out of 5 stars If you are a true sublime you'll want to hear this.......2005-12-21

Obviously no one can do a Sublime song better than Sublime but what I like about this album is how everyone put their own style into each of the songs. They didn't try to sound like Sublime but at the same time, you can still imagine Sublime being involved with the making of these songs. The book insert has a little input from each artist on what Sublime meant to them which I enjoyed reading.

Notable tracks are Jack Johnson's version of Badfish/Boss DJ and Abstract Rude's Waiting for my Ruca. Los Lobos did a great job on Pawn Shop as well.

4 out of 5 stars Decidedly Good.......2005-10-21

I've heard the originals to almost all of these songs many times, so naturally I don't really have the same affinity for these that I do the originals. That being said, I like how diverse the sound is, instead of being true covers, the various artists take liberty to change/add lyrics and create completely different sounding songs than the originals.

The only reason that it's not a 5 is because of the track by No Doubt. Jesus christ I got about 5 seconds into it before I skipped to the next track. What where they thinking?

4 out of 5 stars an albom for the true sublime fans.......2005-10-12

first off, to all the haters: every band on this cd is like perfect. they are all bands that are willing to take a risk, no matter how much the fans whine. bradley would have been proud that such a wide, diverse group of people came together in the name of sublime. im sure he would be estatic to hear great groups like los lobos, spearhead, fishbone, ozomatli, and the one and only Michael F. Watt come to add flavor. new schoolers like filibuster and bargain music are obvious students of the sublime stylee and a smart choice. i am particularly piss'd at those who say avail was a bad choice. BRADLEY LOVED AVAIL!!!!!!!!(check the DVD). it just goes to show how little people actually know about sublime.

to the fans: this is basically an album of interpretations. each artist shows the listener why sublime is cool to them. it is fun to hear the individual spins each band puts on classic sublime joints. i loved pennywise doing "same in the end". also Los Lobos comes hard on "Pawn Shop".G-Love has a very cool take on one of the most underrated sublime songs "greatest hits". jack johnson comes with a typical jack johnson output, which isnt anything bad.the best is the Ziggens cover of "Paddle Out". the ziggens and sublime; 'nuf said.

overall this album isnt for people who want to hear a sublime cd. those people should all go buy "40 oz." and go kill themselves. its for those who want to hear others tell why they love sublime in song, and pay their respects to the masters of eclectic urban music.im sure bradley is smiling down on those who do.

Contracted by Hallmark stores and others as a perk for "member" customers. No new material as far as I can tell.

3 out of 5 stars This CD was just OK.......2006-05-27

This is not Michael's best CD, but his voice is in fine form. The best song on here is the first track, it has a swinging beat. The other songs are on the slower side, which does not appeal to me for a whole CD. If you are a die hard fan, by all means, get this CD, otherwise I suggest you get his latest CD, which has many great songs on it.

3 out of 5 stars Michael Bubles With Love.......2006-03-14

I find this album to be extremly lacking in rich new virbant songs. Out of the 8 songs on this cd only 3 songs are new. Its a shame that this album does not have a deeper romantic selection of new tunes. Especially since it was brought out for valentines day.

IF you were to buy a cd of "live music" you would expect to hear the same old songs. When you purchase a new cd your hopeful that theres new tunes to listen too.

I personally think its disappointing that there arent more new songs on this album. However that being said I still had to buy this album to complete my collection.

Album Description

In the midst of an unpredictable election year, what better band to resurface than the once and future leaders of buoyant, absurdist rock - the Presidents of the United States of America? The newly reunited PUSA has been in the studio cooking up a new platform for playfulness in rock, featuring 14 songs including the already hit single "Some Postman."

Since the band's split in December 1997, fans have been sending letters and e-mails urging them to reunite and asking why they broke up in the first place. Twelve months earlier, the Seattle-based trio has released II, the follow-up to their wildly successful 1995 self-titled Columbia Records debut. Initially released on the idie label PopLlama, The Presidents of the United States of America went double platinum, rocketed all the way to #6 on Billboard's Top 200, produced three Top 40 hits and a #1 single on Billboard's Modern Rock chart, and garnered two Grammy nominations and a gaggle of critical praise. Their videos blanketed MTV, they toured the planet, played a live MTV concert at Mount Rushmore, and appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, The Howard Stern Show and Dick Clark's Rockin' New Years Eve. As if that weren't enough, II spawned another Top Ten modern rock hit, "Mach 5," and the band contributed a rocking cover of "Video Killed the Radio Star" to the platinum-selling soundtrack to Adam Sandler's The Wedding Singer. At the end of the line, Pure Frosting included a cover of the Ian Hunter song "Cleveland Rocks," which was used as the theme song to the Emmy-nominated Drew Carey Show.

For their new album, the band recorded basic tracks at Egg Studios with Conrad Uno (Posies, Supersuckers, Young Fresh Fellows) and at Jupiter Studios with Martin Feveyear (Mudhoney, Mark Lanegan). The new songs run the gamut, though one tune, "Some Postman," has already proven itself after being leaked onto Seattle's KNDD and subsequently turned into a highly-requested local hit. The band will also re-release their eponymous multi-platinum debut this fall along with a DVD including their hit videos, live and interview footage. Nine years later, songs - smart, tuneful and exhilarating - from The Presidents of the United States of America still hold up.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Great to See Them Back but the Album Seems a Bit Rushed!.......2006-09-24

The President of the United States are definitely one of the most unique sounding bands out there and that unique style is more than recognisable on this album. However the quality of these songs is not up there with the original albums they had before their retirement. It is almost like they have been enticed to come out of retirement and written these songs in a couple of days to get an out of retirement album out there in the market place. I can't see them having a big hit off this album but the songs do grow on you a little bit after a few plays. Great to see them back, a lot of the original fans like me will buy this just to hear something new from them but they'll have to put a bit more effort into their next album to attract new fans and survive.

5 out of 5 stars The Presidents of Pop-Punk.......2005-07-14

Much like coming out of the Seattle grunge scene in the early nineties, laughing in the face of all that was over the top gloom, dread, and misery in music; The Presidents of The United States of America (or POTUSA) have once again arrived at just the right time. While most bands are getting their kicks on emo, POTUSA is back with hooks so catchy, and lyrics so hilariously clever, it'll send any self-righteous scenester running for the hills.

Highlight songs include the perverse "Drool At You" Which hilariously walks the line between creepy obsession and pure cuteness, and one hell of a catchy synth line to boot. "Some Postman", another song about sick obsession packaged with sweet pop goodness. Honestly there is not one song on this album to scoff at, unless you are some uptight music snob afraid to have fun.

This is the most impulsive and fast POTUSA album yet. Anyone turned off by songs about little bugs or the country twang in the debut should be very pleased to hear that "Love Everybody" delivers a brand new sound right off the bat. Songs like "Shreds of Boa" and "5,500 Miles" spare the silliness and bring the rock and roll. Those who loved the sound of self titled, well at least you'll love the old school themed track, "Munky River"

The fun and tongue-in-cheek humor never lets up on this album, making it hands-down the best pop-punk album since Mr. T Experience's "Revenge Is Sweet, And So Are You". It's a great album to get if you want to get under the skin of that emo kid who lives down the hall. Blast those geeky tunes with pride, brave music fan; and to the Presidents, I salute you.

3 out of 5 stars I am an Extreme PUSA fan, so take it from me..........2005-04-07

this CD is okay. i love the presidents and this CD was still a good buy but you would be much better off buying a different one... "Shreds of Boa" and "Poke and Destroy" are really good though...

5 out of 5 stars Extremely Refreshing.... and Fun.......2005-03-17

The Presidents of the United States of America (PUSA) were one of my favorite bands of the large litter of off-kilter 90's bands when I was younger, and it's very refreshing to see a great 90's band such as these guys make a great album these days in an industry composed of bland, talentless rock, especially when most of their peers from the 90's have been rather disappointing as of recent.
The album is stacked full of hit songs ('Love Everybody', 'Zero Friction', 'Highway Forever', 'Surf's Down', 'Munky River', and of course 'Some Postman'). It's amazing that after nearly a decade and a few albums along the way, PUSA have managed to maintain their style and finesse and make an album that as always, is FUN to listen to. Their songs's quirkiness and funny/catchy lyrics are what has always embodied their music, and made PUSA who they are.
The album is not as good as their debut, but is a close second in my opinion, and a must-have album for not only a PUSA fan, but for anyone who's into good music that rocks.

4 out of 5 stars Holy sweet awesome Batman!.......2005-02-18

Once upon a time, I discovered the Presidents. They were simply amazing. Then they left, and my world was a little darker... But now, they are back. "Love Everybody" is freakin' sweet. Buy it. Buy it now and buy a copy for your friend. Share the love. Seriously though, it's amazing how PUSA has stayed true to their fun, goofy songs about basically nothing while still keeping completely involved with their music. I'm not sure if the previous sentence made sense, so allow me to rephrase: BUY EVERY PRESIDENT'S ALBUM EVER. Love Everybody has so much to offer and, just like all of their other albums, there is not one song that I don't like. Buy it. Buy it. Buy it. That is all.

Other note: I give this album five stars, but for some reason stupid amazon wouldn't let me change my rating.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Breathing New Life Into Old Favorites.......2000-02-16

Again, George Davidson has given a new life to some of the most masterful music of our time. From the moment "Lonely Ballerina" begins, the freedom and elegance reflects a romance and artistry few musicians can tap into. Davidson's gift for seemingly effortless passion in the ascending and descending of the melody show off his inherent gift for songwriting. After all, he seems to have studied the music of the masters, the sobering and yet majestic strains of "I Dreamed A Dream" from Les Miserables are worth noting. Even the familiar "Aubrey", made popular by Bread in the '70s is treated with fairness, warmth, and courage. A fantastic performance from Mr. Davidson. I can't wait to see his career as a pianist to take flight in popular society.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT!!! Just wonderful. (if you like ancient music).......2006-12-18

I was not sure about this, but saw another 5 star rating, and decided to take the gamble. This is a really nice CD. It has all sizes of recorders played, and lots of various percussion instruments of the day. This has lots of happy ancient dance songs and more solumn sounding but beautiful peices. The cover says the group is from Argentina. I am now looking for more of their CDs.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent overview.......2000-08-18

I was introduced to this collection at an institute of The California Arts Project which focused on teaching beginning recorder. This CD has an excellent variety...using the different types of recorders, and music of different periods. This CD is good for developing listening skills and for appreciating the importance of the recorder throughout musical history.

4 out of 5 stars Love Generation - 'Love & Sunshine: Best Of.....' (Sundazed).......2007-02-16

Vaguely even remember this act's name let alone their music. By name anyway, as I tend to recall a few of these sunshine pop songs. As I check out tunes like "The Love In Me", "Not Be Found", "When The Sun Goes Down" and "Leaves You Grey", I look into seeking more info about this bunch and think....WAIT a second, there! Several of this band's members were apparently the voices dubbed in for the Partridge Family's music during their four year TV series. I mean, this sort of sound was GREAT for it's time. Should appeal to fans of the Mamas&The Papas, Association, Freddie And The Dreamers, the Monkees, and the Cowsills. Recommended, if you dig this sort vintage memory.

5 out of 5 stars S.F. pychedelic pop = Silly Fluff, L.A. = Loaded & Awesome.......2006-10-18

Skip all the overhyped psychedelic music from San Francisco. L.A. is where it's at. Southern California had Arthur Lee's Love, the Doors, the Byrds, the Mamas and the Papas, and every other California band worth mentioning. S.F. had a bunch of bloated nineteen-minute noodlers who couldn't craft a melody to save their souls. The Love Generation are hep to the scene, can you dig it?

4 out of 5 stars Horrible lyrics but..........2004-03-16

Excellent execution by top session vocalists. Mostly male lead from the Bahler bros. (who lend background voices to Partridge Family, Monkees and many others) Lyrically challenged and excessive use of the words groovy, sunshine and flowers. Some good material, especially in first 10 tracks...maybe after that the sound starts to wane. Big dissappointment on track 20 (A Touch of Love), which was/is a great tune featuring only the brothers...unfortunately they used the version from the Montage album which has added John F. Kennedy (sounds like George Bush senior!) talking at the beginning and end of the song. If you can get past that, it sounds like a great Byrds acoustic demo (except for the lyrics). The version on the first album does not have the talking.

4 out of 5 stars Geeky, but with a quirky appeal.......2003-04-17

As I listened to this, I recalled a lot of it form my early childhood (late 60s- early 70s). I remember "Catchin Up on Fun" from the Archie cartoons from the late 60s and I recall reading that the Love Generation was the group that did much of the actual vocals for the Partridge Family. It shows. Like a lot of the bubblegum pop of the time, this is the kind of unhip stuff that most people today would be too embarrased to admit to liking and would certainly not play in public or around a group of friends for fear of being considered a geek. But hey, if you're all alone on a sunny day with your CD player, there's nothing wrong with a little "Groovy Sunshine" for some fond memories. Bring on the Cowsills, Freddie and the Dreamers, and the Brady Bunch Band while you're at it.

5 out of 5 stars Obscure harmony classic.......2002-07-14

Those who enjoy the Free Design, Association, Harpers Bizarre, and other close harmony groups of the pop-psychedelic variety will find this a highly pleasing collection. Gathering 25 tracks from the group's three 1967-68 albums, and accompanied by a booklet with excellent notes and photos, this CD is a gem.

Producer Calls on the Power of Music to Increase Math Scores

In just four years, producer David Printis has taught math, science and geography to over 35,000 children by invoking the power of music. Now, his company continues to educate with new CD's.

Fort Washington, MD - As our country rallies for higher math achievement scores by increasing teachers' pay and rewarding states for encouraging learning, one music producer has risen to the call to action by producing educational music CD's that kids, parents, and even teachers are raving about.Launched in October 2001, the series' first CD, "Multiplication Hip Hop," became an instant hit, and has since become one of the hottest selling independent music CD's on the East coast. Later titles in the series, "It's Elementary," "Science and Geography," and the newest one, "Addition and Subtraction" have met with equal success.

"Kids like the CD's," Printis remarks. "They don't even realize they're learning. They just think they're having fun listening to hip hop."

Not only has Printis won the praise of parents, teachers, and school principals, his company has received the interest of university faculties and national media such as The Washington Post and National Public Radio's "Morning Edition."

"Kids learn the alphabet by learning a song, they learn to count by putting it in a song. This is just another way of bringing it to life for kids," says Martin L. Johnson, professor of mathematics education at the University of Maryland at College Park.

Karen Kunkel, principal at Green Valley Elementary School in a suburb of Washington, D.C., uses "Multiplication Hip Hop" to teach her second graders. She has attributed the CD's with her school's significant improvement on the Comprehensive Test of Basic Skills, a standardized test given to students in Maryland.

"The CD's are a good influence," Printis concludes. "The rhythm keeps the kids interested…and learning."

Aceyalone might be the ultimate rapper's rapper, but like Chuck D, he doesn't "rhyme for the sake of riddlin'." His lyricism betrays a love affair with words and language, as he pours every facet of his complex personality through his verses. It makes for inspired wordplay certainly, and on his latest CD (his fourth solo effort), Acey continues to spill out a stream of consciousness that crashes upon the flood gates. "Junkman" continues his battle-rap tradition as he drums the dumbs, then he flips around and attacks the nation's spiritual ennui with "Ms. AmeriKKKa." He's even going after the party crowd with his bouncy "Lost Your Mind." The weak point remains the production, Acey's perpetual limitation, as the album includes some snoozers like the glitchy, electro "In Stereo." But on the whole, the album achieves a smart balance between hard-driving cuts like "Find Out" and the smoother lounge sounds of "The Saga Continues." --Oliver Wang

2 out of 5 stars Are you really listening to the cd?.......2006-02-17

If you are actually an Aceyalone fan, you would know that "Love and Hate" is mostly just a bunch of nonsense. Aceyalone fans know that there are a lot more cd's than just Accepted Eclectic and beyond. They recognize the knowledge that Freestyle Fellowship jumpstarted hip-hop in California, and then pushed the East Coast more than anyone could have seen happening. "Love and Hate" is a bunch of redundant nonsense beats, done by nonsensical producers. The only songs that have production worth hearing are the songs produced by Riddlore and El-P, and if I have to listen to Goapeles poor excuse for singing again, my ears may explode. May I mention that the only sick El-P song is a ton of idiotic, blabbering nursey rhymes? Aceyalone tried to gain a different audience with this cd, and I believe, failed miserably. I would expect so much more from an artist so distinguished in the hip-hop career he has. Have you heard "The Hunt", or "Makeba"? The previous cd's have been more about the hip-hop aspect of things, then about gaining a "broader" crowd. If you want to waste your money, buy this... if you don't, buy the Aceyalone- All Balls Don't Bounce re-release.

    4 out of 5 stars ACE COWBOY.......2005-10-20

Yea I can Kind of see like some of the other reviewers why they might be upset with this release Ace tired to do a concept joint and 85% of the time he pulls it off flawlessly The other 15% is pretty corny. Like the song with EL-P this is the worst excuse for a Hiphop song I have ever heard. Most of the music on this album is a mixture of soulful bi-polar funk Hiphop that is based loosely on the concept of love and hate. Now I see a couple of reviews talking about how ACE fell off lyricly but I dont really know how you rate a lyricist like ACE one way or the other because his lyrics dont make much sense to begin with if you are into abstract poetry you will probably enjoy the lyrical stylings of Ace 1. This is not a five star album and while I feel Acealone is an aquired taste it is certainly worth more than 1 star enjoy this and any of his other albums.

    4 out of 5 stars This here's gon' blow your (...) brains.......2005-04-13

I can see how some would be dissappointed by Aceyalone's latest solo. It seems as if he didn't push himself lyrically as he usually does. However, it's important to point out that this is a solo album that is different from anything he's done, as with every other cd he's done. It's obvious he's trying to push the musical aspect for once, as he employs producers like RJD2, PMG, Fat Jack, and El-P to liven the mood.
Even though the lyrical gems are sparse(for Acey), he still packs moments such as the exhilirating "Takeoff," political and social commentary of "Ms. Amerikka," and the pure funk of "Ace Cowboy," which are three of the best songs of his career. Otherwise you're left to pick and choose. "Junkman" isn't anything special, but it does its job: warming the album up. Not feeling "Let Me Hear Sumn"(w/ Casual of Hieroglyphics & Big Arch) too much, but "Lost Your Mind" does what it intends: hype up the party without selling out the lyrics. Abstract Rude makes his usual appearance on the mellow "The Saga Continues," but it seems to be a little to much "business as usual" for them at least. A fine song, no doubt, but almost too laid-back and we know they can push the boundaries further than that. "Find Out"(w/ Riddlore) is quite a winner as a party starter with solid lyrics. "City of Sh#t"(w/ El-P) is actually amusing once you get past the initial discomfort*hint, hint*. There are some songs where he feels the propensity to cuss more than usual on tracks like "Lost Your Mind," "The Takeoff," the title track, and "City of Sh**." Overall, it's still the usual Acey and he never fumbles a verse or shows signs of selling-out.
Actually, this cd would be great to blast at a party and play all the way through! Plenty of high energy moments with some chill-out songs in the middle like "The Saga Continues" and "Moonlit Skies"(w/ crooner Goapele). The album is not completely devoid of intellectual moments and mental stimuli in case you're worried, but it's a solid party album, and not a mainstream ploy! The top 5 songs off "Love and Hate" are "Ace Cowboy," "Ms. Amerikka," "Takeoff," "So Much Pain,"(w/ Riddlore and Self-Jupiter) and "Moonlit Skies." Acey did it like he always does (gives us what were not expecting), yet longtime fans are hoping for more focus on his masterful lyrical game next time around, but this is acceptable. A good place to start out if you've never heard Aceyalone, if you can get this for a reasonable price, and more solid material from one of Hiphop's elite.

    4 out of 5 stars Whats Crack-a-lackin.......2004-02-25

It is sad that music like this never makes it into the "mainstream". Aceyalone speaks intelligently and clearly with a vocabulary that is pleasant to listen too - not angry and aggressive, with a pointless message - like most of the crap on the radio. This album does have some of an 80s feel - but that is the current trend in Rock - Ace should be commended for being on the forefront of his genre - and NOT sticking to the same old thing (as other reviews have mentioned). I think this album is better than some of the others - you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars "Every rapper in the house shut the funk up!".......2003-11-14

Despite all the criticism, this is yet another solid gem dropped by the most gifted (and underrated) MC the world has ever known. As "mainstream" as people may think this sounds, or as much as some say Acey is "selling out", this is still light years ahead of any of the MTV and radio garbage being strewn about these days. In fact, it outshines most of Acey's underground contemporaries. Part of Acey's magic lies in his ability to hit you with what you're not expecting, and no two albums ever sound the same. So what if this isnt on the same level as "a Book of Human Language." I seriously doubt it was meant to be. What this album brings to the table is exactly what we expect from Aceyalone, and what he comes through with every time: bangin songs, witty insightfulness, some of the coldest wordplay, and of course, unexpected twists throughout...

The most noticable twist on this album is Ace One's use of a more contemporary canvas to paint his lyrical brushstrokes over. As far as beats go, he trades in his usual crispy, sampled straight-off-the-SP1200 background for more modern electronic and bass-heavy sounds provided by producers PNG and RJD2, with a guest appearance by Project Blowed veteran Fat Jack (on the silky smooth "The Saga Continues" featuring the forever chill Abstract Rude) and Def Jux's El-P (who also raps on the dark, twisted "City of Sh*t"). Some of the album even brings some RnB flavor to the mix (another unexpected twist) with Goapele crooning through the hook of the haunting "Moonlit Skies", and neo-soul underground rockers The Soul of John Black provide the vocal and musical engine for Acey's mothership on "Ace Cowboy". Bouncy and rhythmic tracks like "Junkman", "Let me Hear Sumn", and "Find Out" could keep all hands in the air at the club, while keeping the intellectual ear strained to decipher Acey's razor-sharp and intelligent flow; and the deep and mysterious title track makes a heavy statement on the most basic yet complex of human emotions.

All in all, this album delivers something for just about everybody, and would serve not only as a solid addition to any fan's collection, but also as a perfect introduction to anyone who is unfamiliar with the world's greatest. And to those of you who think Acey has gone mainstream, check out the just-released "Project Blowed presents the Good Brothers", a compilation of some of the most ORIGINAL and talented west coast rappers today, with Aceyalone at the forefront of most of the tracks. Definitely not what I'd call "mainstream"...also, die-hard fans should check out "Hip Hop and the World we Live In", a collection of unreleased Aceyelone gems, all produced by Elusive of the Living Legends crew. Fans can appreciate this more on the same level as "Human Language". It was only released in limited quantities though, so grab a copy while you can. This should be plenty to hold you over until we hear from Ace One again, and who knows what he will bring to the table next time?....
