My Budgie Maude & I love this cd!.......2007-04-20

I purchased this cd for my budgie to hear & learn different bird sounds during the day while I am @ work....Maude just goes wild when I walk over to turn it on.....she will sit on top of the cd player & bob her head.
It will be cool when she starts repeating the different birds
I had no trouble with the track not lineing up but the 3 bonus tracks didnt have a name only unavailable....but Maude can't read so she dont mind

Great sound; Wrong Indexing.......2006-09-20

I give it 4 stars because it isn't too mixed up with the indexing and the most important part is the excellent sound...all for the low price! There are even 3 bonus birds at the end (but, no names!) I don't understand the person who says the indexing is not wrong. If you select a track and it isn't the bird then the indexing is wrong. Simple. Don't get it if you must have the indexing correct. And I think it is a great buy. No regrets! I'm getting more as gifts. I'll get the list straight. It will definitely help me learn the names!

great bird sounds!!.......2006-07-18

I don't understand when people say the tracks don't line up, because they do. There are three bonus tracks at the end of the cd which are not listed on the back cover. I don't know what birds these are, but the rest of the cover lines up, except it says (1)zero tone (2)summer tanager and (2) is one, because 1 is considered two also. The bird sounds themselves are amazing and clear and if you like bird sounds this is for you.

This is the most authentic CD of various bird sounds that I have ever heard. My two paraketts listen very intently to the sounds and then go on and make their own chirps too.

Titles don't match tracks.......2005-02-14

Apparently 3 more tracks were inserted without updating the track index. I realized this when I played the whip-por-will track and heard a hermit thrush instead. Don't use this CD for field identification unless you can figure out what the 3 extra tracks are and where they were inserted so you can rewrite the track listing accordingly. Otherwise, the recordings are crisp and clear.

This is exactly as they say "The psycologically ultimate seashore" and it's fabulous. Recorded on the beach with all the sounds of wonderful surf and seabirds and an occasional buoy in the distance, perfect for relaxing. I love it.

CD's? O.o.......2006-06-09

Interesting these are comming out on CD. I have all the environments albums on Vinyl. I had to painfully record
the albums onto my hard drive and do a little editing
couple pops here and there. One album was warped so bad
it wouldnt play right. These albums are from the 70's or early 80's

Best stuff out there considering the other options.

Like one reviewer said. some companies or people put way to many annoying sounds in such a beutifull CD that it ruins it. Birds/any other annoying noises.

No music, no birds - just ocean!.......2005-08-25

I've listened to a lot of these Ocean CDs, and most of them disappoint. Often there's lame New Age music or foghorns or birds. I bought one ocean CD that had so many gull squawks, I felt like Tippi Hedron!

Thankfully, this CD has nothing but water. It's not the most relaxing ocean CD I've heard (Dan Gibson's "Ocean Surf" holds that title) but at least its ocean sounds are unadulterated. The difference between this CD and the Gibson one is that the ocean seems more turbulent on this CD. The Gibson CD is more mellow -- it seems like you're standing in the surf at low tide. When you listen to "Environments 1: Psychologically Ultimate Seashore," you feel more like you're way out at sea.

"Environments 1: Psychologically Ultimate Seashore" is for those of you who want a stronger-sounding ocean. The other benefit of this CD is that it will be the creepiest title in your CD collection.

Sonic Bliss.......2005-04-22

Congratulations if you've found this cd despite Amazon's typo. And if you think a recording of waves gently washing ashore is a joke, think again. This cd provides calm and, most especially, relaxation when used at bedtime. It seems to gently draw attention to itself and mask other, more disturbing ambient noises. I've listened to this cd most nights for more than 10 years, and it's never failed to lull me to sleep; it's even relaxing to hear when you wake (if you stick it on repeat overnight). What's most significant about this recording is that it works best when barely audible, adding a cushioning layer of white noise to your aural environment. Of course, if your environment is very noisy or you find yourself highly sensitive to extraneous or synthetic sound this may not be for you. But I love it. Highly recommended.

One of the all time great albums to which to relax.......2004-08-27

This album was designed to relax you. It does a very good job. Doctors could prescribe this album to releive stress! It quiets down the room, masking the sound of life outside. Playing it causes your breathing to slow, and takes the edge off a cruel and difficult world.

Environments produced at least two "psychologically ultimate" albums including this one and the "Psychologically Ultimate Thunderstorm." I have had them ever since they first came out on vinyl in the '70s. I lost my copy of this album years ago, but managed to find the Thunderstorm album on vinyl. I then recorded it to CD and play it all night long to sleep. I know that the Ultimate Thunderstorm was not a real thunderstorm, but was white noise with some sound effects on top.

I later found a copy of this album on vinyl and recorded it to my computer, set up a 10 hour playlist which simply repeats the seashore and play it to help me relax, when I do work at home, and when I go to sleep. It is more relaxing than the Thunderstorm because it doesn't have the Thunderstorm's sometimes intrusive rumbling thunder. Accordingly, it gets played more than the Thunderstorm.

It is interesting to see the reviews below state that the Psychologically Ultimate Seashore was recorded at night because there are no gull noises. It is my recollection that it was not actually a recording or the seashore, but a simulation designed to be relaxing -- just like the Ultimate Thunderstorm. This is the reason it is self described as "Psychologically Ultimate." It sounds so good. The comments show how good a simulation it is! I've purchased actual recordings of the ocean and thunderstorms and they are not as relaxing.

The reason the album works is because it contains white noise. White noise is a sound that contains every frequencywithin the range of human hearing in equal amounts. This is the static type of sound you get when the radio dial isn't tuned to a station. Pink noise is a variant of white noise, except the tonal balance is different. This is the sound moving water makes. When used properly, as it is here, low level pink noise it is very relaxing. Because this album contains all frequencies, it masks the noise intruding from the outside world. Synthetic Silence.

They managed to use technology to record love and peace! It sounds better than the real thing!

worst thunderstorm cd ever.......2007-03-01

If you are looking for a rain cd to listen to this is the worst one ever! The thunder breaks down to 20 second songs, and fades away after each. Basically this cd does not flow together, you're better off buying a cd that has one long storm!! Especially if you are buying it to sleep to as I was. BORING!!!!!!!

I started out loving this CD, the rain, the thunder - but somewhere during the end of the CD the sound of the thunder overpowered the beginning and just woke us up from a deep sleep. I'll probably just repeat the good track(s) in order to keep asleep!!!!

This should have been titled Thunder Claps because there is no storm, just one thunderclap lasting from 20 to 40 seconds, fade out, silence, next thunder clap. It is more of a sound effects recording than a continuous storm. I was dissappointed in that there was none of the rumbling thunder that is common during our midwestern storms. It is not bad, if you just want the thunder without the storm but the title does not accurately describe what is contained on the CD.

Perfect background "music" for life in places without thunderclouds.......2006-07-21

Thunderheads purple the sky an hour distant, cumulonimbus rumbling faintly. Air temperature drops, wind blows. Gentle and warm, then chubby and splattering and cold, rain drops fall; the sidewalk browns. Distant rumbling is replaced with nearby sounds of shrieking metal and of great predator cats, of lightning rending the deepening evening gloom, crashing into soybean fields. Heady ozone, grass and wet concrete assail the nostrils. Tornado sirens, real excitement then, praying for one to come close but not that close. Hot summer days, evening's obligatory thunderstorms.

San Francisco has none of this. Cold wet summer, no chance of thunderstorms, let alone twisters. That's why I had to buy this CD. The grail to heal the homesickness and memory, wondrous summer storm mends the warp and weft of my Midwestern soul.

Desensitizing brontophobic animals.......2006-07-07

This Cd is excellent for this purpose, the volume is easily controlled and it is an extremely useful tool in treating dogs suffering from this dreadful phobia, which can make not only the life of the animal but that of the owner, a misery, particularly since some susceptible animals can do themselves often fatal harm when trying to escape from the noise of thunder.

Broad coverage.......2003-07-09

A rather nice album, comprehensive coverage, might even stretch a bit far for some. Starts off rather funky, going deeper and deeper as the album progresses climaxing with 'Doo Ya!', beautifully smooth and deep. 'Scenario' provides a nice break in the middle of the set, the pace picks up again after that with some more funky house. The album ends slower again, 'Passage of Time' a nice dub tune, deliciously smooth. The finale 'Slayin the Dragon' is quite a nice surprise, definitely draws a lot of inspiration from blues, featuring some prominent guitars and matching vocals :)
Definitely a keeper for a late night...

The Birds, The Frogs, and the Stream.......2001-03-29

The frogs are the only thing that can get a tad annoying if you are trying to sleep to this CD. One of them make a kind of sharp frog noise which can be slightly startling if you're asleep. Otherwise this CD is a great combination of a soft, flowing stream, birds in the forrest, and frogs near the water. It certainly takes me back to my country roots in Alabama and Florida whenever I listen to this CD. Certainly a worthy addition to a Magic Moods collection!

Before you sell your vinyl..........2006-06-03

You should know that this is the "special low frequency version" (16 RPM, 60 minutes). I think it sounds better at 33; this version seems unnaturally slow, more disorienting than soothing. (If you have sound design software on your computer, you can create the 33 RPM version by pitch-adjusting the disc UP 12 semitones.)

EXCELLENT CD - MORE ENVIRONMENTS SERIES ON CD PLEASE!.......2002-04-07

A really great series of records which only a few are available on CD. It is sad that this one is so hard to find. It was one of the best in the series and surely the most interesting. I am hoping that the company with the rights to this series will release more of the ENVIRONMENTS series on CD.

Odd but restful.......2001-11-16

This is probably one of the oddest recordings I've ever heard, but it's also one of the most restful. It reminds me of some of the deep, resonant brass bells I heard rung during ceremonies in a Buddest temple in China in 1986. The sounds are at varying frequencies, with refraines lasting for several seconds at a time. I could easily see this as a meditation piece, something with which to focus one's mind, just as the bells in China were probably used during the ceremonies I attended. There is nothing that remotely resembles a "tune" here or anything that is strictly speaking an "environmental" sound either. For those who enjoy some of the atmosphere recordings, this will probably please you. For those who expect their music to be hummable, this definitely isn't it.

For Relaxation and Meditation This One is Excellent.......2000-06-10

I work for a group of social workers and therapists who specialize in stress, molest issues, and other trauma... and we've found that this recording is one of the best ever to promote a safe and relaxing "audio environment". With undertones similar to heart beats and a natural flowing rhythm vaguely similar to the sounds of the womb, this recording seems to promote an immediate sense of calm. One of our therapists got so relaxed, she actually fell asleep listening to this. I have a copy for myself at home, too, and play it for my dogs when they're aggitated by lightning storms. The low-tone non-melody is very soothing. I think it's excellent. Buy this one.

Nature at its worst.......2005-12-20

OMG I really want to give this minus 5 rating. Sound quality is not bad but what they are recording are so annoying!!! Who needs to hear a cat meowing (the way it wants to eat NOW) and puppy crying. What a torture! It would be a cool sound collection for other purposes (if you can think of any). Definitely try the sound sample before buying it. But for relaxation, I'd recommend some of those echo of nature or summer rain, etc. instead.

Rainstorms & Nature.......2005-03-19

This is most definitely the worst nature sounds CD that I've ever heard. The CD is mostly made up of various animal sounds such as a dog barking, horse neighing, etc...
The tracks that are actual sounds of nature such as wind, rain etc... are very poor quality and range from around 23 seconds to just over 1 minute (there are 72 tracks on this CD). If you are looking for samples of sounds for a project, then this CD is for you. Otherwise, I wouldn't waste my time.

BIG Disappointment!.......2004-03-09

This is a chopped up 30 second to two minute environmental sounds mess. It is not relaxing to listen to as a rainstorm should be. I was so disgusted with it that I didn't even get to the last half which contains birdcalls and animal sounds. Save your money and spend it on a more relaxing CD!

Okay,just for the record,I USUALLY cannot stand most rap.However,rap-metal bands,such as this here artist,Shootyz Groove I thought was actually tolerable.I do not own this CD,I merely borrowed it to give it a listen.If you're into bands like Sausage,P.O.D.,Urge or Bloodhound Gang,you'll most likely dig this release.Enjoy!

Seriously...these guys deserve credit for starting that short lived rap-rock thing that I'd rather forget...except for this band. It's smart and meaningful...no ego satisfaction (or inflation) like you'll find today and it's a perfect 50/50 blend of hip hop and rock. Anyone who ever liked the older Phunk Junkeez and WAYYYYY older 311 (you remember....back when they were still good) should check this out. A diamond in a pile of cubic zirconia.

Rap-rock done right.......2000-09-23

Shootyz Groove's _Jammin' in Vicious Environments_ is quite possibly the best rap-rock CD ever recorded. Shootyz Groove actually has a great deal of talent. This CD can please both hard rock and rap fans alike. Each song on this disc is crammed with quality. I highly recommend it. (You should also check out _Hipnosis_ and _High Definition_.)

Shootyz Groove is the epitome of street-core, twinged reggae, hip-hop, metal, and dope rhythms. I do not own an album that captures the aforementioned elements so well. The songs on this album are classics and should be recognized as such. Shootyz deserves more credit than they have received. See them live when they perform "Level," you'll agree.
