Born Slippy [CD-single] [EP]

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com essential recording
Rave dance parties had been a phenomenon in London and its rural satellites for years before this song came along, but "Born Slippy" took a growing fad and turned it into a genuine movement. Its inclusion on the Trainspotting soundtrack only broadened its influence, casting an even wider net and bringing peripheral followers of electronic music into the fold. The song makes use of an ingenious vocal, fuzzy and loose, looping phrases of cadence around irresistible BPMs that could inspire the most bashful wallflower to raid the dance floor. The song's influence is such that some have claimed it to be the unassailable pinnacle of electronica. While such statements are debatable, it's instructional to realize that the genre concept "electronica" only congealed when "Born Slippy" astronomically expanded the all-around influence of electronic music. In effect, it's already a classic. --Matthew Cooke

5 out of 5 stars Masterpiece!.......2005-10-06

This is one of the best singles of the 90's. All the remixes are top notch and excellent!! If you've seen Trainspotting then you probably heard the 2 versions in the film. It has been rereleased recently but these remixes are still the best ones.

5 out of 5 stars 3 Tracks and a Tractor.......2005-05-09

This is more to reiterate what's been said with a few additions. This is a 3-track version and it has a white cover with a tractor/riding mower on the cover. If what you see doesn't have this picture on it, it's a different version. The first track is Born Slippy. This is not the track that appears on the Trainspotting soundtrack. This is, however, and very good, fast-moving, Underworld track. Very upbeat and happy. The second track is Born Slippy.NUXX. This is the track that most are familiar with. It appears here at the shorter 9 and a half minutes, and is mixed into Born Slippy.TELEMATIC. Another upbeat banging song. The tracks don't resemble any other songs (or each other, for that matter), but somehow sound like typical Underworld. Due to the confusion over the track names and the 5000 different versions of the Nuxx single, this is worth getting.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic number.......2005-01-29

It's a fantastic number,i know from i was 3 years old.I called it a "doef-doef-muziekske"(boom-boom-music).I'm sorry if my English isn't good,i'm a Belgian kid.

5 out of 5 stars Does anyone look at the track listings?.......2004-06-19

Although all of the reviews here seem to reflect the seven-track Born Slippy.NUXX CD single, this item listing is actually for the original three-track CD single from 1995, with the riding lawnmower on the cover.

The world-famous Born Slippy.NUXX featured in Trainspotting is actually a remix, with the original version being track 1 on this CD, and the TELEMATIC remix being track 3.

The seven-track CD single features remixes based off the NUXX remix, and not off the original song.

All in all a great disc and worth searching out.

5 out of 5 stars prepare yourself.......2004-01-07

Being a raver I was naturally drawn to "Born Slippy". It is quite simply a rave ANTHEM. It is THE if not one of the most recognized electronic songs. It's hard to pinpoint exactly why it's an instant favorite maybe it's just the speed and energy of it all. It's a rush, a very confident and honest rush.

So what exactly is he saying?? Is it just a stream of consciousness?? To me it sounds like Karl Hyde is singing of a boy that dresses in drag who he happens to like. Whatever it is about it is my anthem of choice.

Album Description

Japanese EP taken from the 2003 compilation 'Underworld 1992 - 2002'. Five non-LP tracks, 'Born Slippy 2003' (Radio Edit, 12 Inch Edit, Down Version, London Electricity Mix, & Paul Oakenfold Mix). V2.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars great London Elektricity Mix!.......2004-05-02

With the release of their best of, Underworld has brought out some new mixes of their classic "Born Slippy Nuxx". The Japanese edition includes 5 mixes:

- 2003 Edit (3:58)
- 12" Edit (7:01)
- Down Version (4:55)
- London Elektricity Mix (8:15)
- Paul Oakenfold Mix (8:11).

The first three mixes are produced by Rick Smith himself. The 2003 Edit starts with an euphoric piano followed by the lyrics and the famous beat of the original version; the piano is the main novelty of this remix.

Although the second mix is called 12" Edit, it is not edited but is the full extended remix.

The Down Version is an ambient mix with the lyrics slowed down.

The London Elektricity Mix is an amazing Drum and Bass remix, sure to be a big hit on the dancefloors.

The remix by Paul Oakenfold and Ian Green has a heavy bassline typical of psytrance X-Dream's Radio. Around the middle, there is a break in which you can hear the beginning of the original version backed with a great breakbeat, leading to an excellent dark bassline in the vein of Markus Schulz. But strangely this bassline stops after a few seconds and is replaced by the heavier one. Several noises are added without direction and it looks like a headlong flight.

I would recommend this cd for any fan of Underworld and Drum and Bass. Besides, while the UK release has only the 7" edit, the Paul Oakenfold Mix and another remix (because of market rules limiting cd-singles to 20 minutes), this Japanese release includes three full length exclusive cd tracks: 12" Edit, Down Version and the excellent London Elektricity Mix. And as usual top-notch Japanese quality production. A great buy!

      Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great new mixes of the Underworld's classic song.......2004-01-03

This CD is great. It is only 3 songs long, but each track is wonderful. The Rick Smith remix is funky. It uses a lot of actual piano sampled and looped. It gives the song a very melodic vibe without losing the pounding drum beats. The Atomic Hooligan mix is trippy. It feels like listening to Born Slippy on headphones while floating in outer space. Good Stuff. Paul Oakenfold's mix is very dark and moody. It has incredible sounds and a very vivid beat. This is a great CD for Underworld fans or for anyone who likes Born Slippy.
