Amazon.com essential recording

Disney's Snow White, the world's first animated musical feature (1937), is still a standard in the industry. Though 1930s recording technology was primitive by today's standards, the Disney music studios have always used the available technology to its fullest, and this recording still stands up. The mature but hauntingly childlike Adriana Caselotti as Snow White is a unique vocal presence, and the songs include "Whistle While You Work," "Heigh-Ho," and "Some Day My Prince Will Come." The score is nearly as great an accomplishment as the film itself. --John Sanchez

5 out of 5 stars The Churchill's are very talented persons........2007-02-13

When I was 6, I already had a very good sense of what is a fine music score. I'm 73 now and still loving that music.

5 out of 5 stars One Song.......2006-02-19

I bought this album almost especially for the piece of music entitled "Special Sort Of Death." It does sound creepy but that's what I loved about it. From I saw the film I was like I have to have that.

Anyway another reason for me purchasing this album was the main titles for the film I love the ochestration. My favourite song on this album would have to be One Song followed by with A Smile and a Song.

And number 5 (a piece of music) I can't remember what it's called but it is creepy too the part that has snow white running through the woods.

Someday my prince will come is nice too. Adriana's voice is a little high and annoying sometimes though. But it's still nice to listen to. I listen to this album alot it's very nice and I like to listen to the version of One Song that is played at the end of the movie.

4 out of 5 stars good soundtrack for halloween.......2005-07-14

first of all, i have seen the movie and the hag scares me very much. about the music,it's not good music for children because the orchestral moving creates dark suites. the other part of makin' pies is no exception. i listened to special sort of death on a site called mp3.com and the beginning is very disturbing almost, because it's when the queen appears as the old witch and she plots to destroy snow white
Queen:(laughing)it's not for you, it's for snow white
anyways, bye-bye

5 out of 5 stars REMasterpiece!.......2003-01-21

This soundtrack is a perfect compliment to the film, and It's gloriously remastered to make you feel you are still watching and not just listening to the music from the movie itself.

In the liner notes I read the original soundtrack only consisted of five songs, the five songs we hear sung in the film. "One song/I'm Wishing", "Hi Ho", "The Yodeling Song", "Some day my prince will come", and "Whistle while you work". Over the years, the instrumental musical score was thrown in to create a wonderful masterpiece of a soundtrack.

I highly recommend purchasing this. If you like the music from the movie, you will love this. After hearing this for the first time(I've now heard it at least 100, thanks to my 2 yr. old), the movie is brought out to be more of a musical adventure as well as a wonderful story to be told.
This is my son's favorite c.d., and he has so much fun dancing and singing along.

5 out of 5 stars A Magical, Delightful Soundtrack.......2002-10-07

This was the first of the newly remastered and expanded "Disney classic soundtracks" that I purchased for my collection, and it's still my favorite. How wonderful to have, not only the vocals from the old vinyl version ("I'm Wishing/One Song," "With a Smile and a Song," "Heigh-Ho," "Bluddle-Uddle-Um-Dum," "The Dwarfs' Yodel Song" (and if you don't want to get up and dance to it, there's something wrong with you!), and "Some Day My Prince Will Come"), but the background instrumentals from the track, never before available to the at-home audience. The "Queen Theme," the chilling "Far Into the Forest," and "I've Been Tricked" particularly bring scenes from the movie springing to mind. There are also two songtracks that were cut from the film print. If you're a Disney-lover, your collection must positively include this CD.

5 out of 5 stars An Amazing Downtempo Chillout album.......2007-02-09

Listening to Bobobo's (Simon Green) debut album, i wonder why isn't Bonobo's name revered along other electronic music luminaires like Amon Tobin among music connoiseur's.
Like his labelmate and friend Amon Tobin, Bonobo's music is a collage of disparate (mostly) acoustic musical elements (hi hop drum rhythms, spoken word snippets, standup bass, sitars, acoustic guitars, string sections, saxes, etc) put together in a imaginative and cohesive way to create something new and exciting.
In this album, Bonobo is the closest thing you would hear to Amon Tobin's groundbreaking early work without the Drum and Bass workouts and brazilian percussion. Every track is a different and touching song, with unique musical elements that will have you humming and listening to this album for hours over and over again: The unintelligible female vocals on "Sleepy Seven", The snaking sax lines in "Dinosaurs", The acoustic guitar arpeggios and weird distorted synths on "Kota", The impossibly high-pitched female vocals and sitar on "Terrapin"...

I own an extensive Electronic music collection with hundreds of albums and over 10000 songs, anything from Aphex Twin to Zoviet France, and this is one my favorite albums in my collection.
If you like downtempo / Chillout music, you must get this album, you won't be dissapointed!

5 out of 5 stars not groundbreaking but incredible just the same.......2001-11-15

'animal magic' is not a groundbreaking album. it sure does have some nice music involved, though. the first time i heard the song 'the plug' i nearly lost my mind. it is the ideal song for me. most of the album is the same, however, not as strong as the above mentioned song. bonobo has released some very laid back jams here. there are lots of nice beats as well for those of you who enjoy the beat-oriented pieces. i know everyone compares everything to boards of canada and i can't say that this album is an exception. it is very similar in feel. very beautiful and chill.

check out tracks: sleepy seven, terrapin, the plug, and shadowtricks.

hope you enjoy it as much as i do.

5 out of 5 stars An awsome chill out album.......2001-07-14

This is a fantastic album. All you have to do is put it in and play. If you are in a bad mood it will relax you. The songs start nice and mellow and gradually get a little bit harder. I bought this album without listening to any of Bonobos music before. I playedd it to a group of my friends and they all wanted to buy a copy. Whether this record is played at the lowest or highest setting on your volume control, it will allways sound like a cold strong beer on a hot sunny day. Even if you dont like dance music this is an essetial C.D to have in your collection.

    5 out of 5 stars A Genuinely Amazing Record.......2001-05-20

This is such a great morning record, perfect for a quite Sunday of coffee and contemplation. Sad that the record has such a cheesy title (sounds like a bad metal album). It's all pretty mellow, certainly not a record for the dancefloors. Beautiful melodies and gorgeous sounds drift throughout, creating a sound that is ambient at some moments and cinematic in others. There are some 'noirish' moments, as the other reviewer mentioned, but it's not that way in the same way as, say, the Troublemakers album 'Doubts & Convictions'. On the whole, the atmosphere is pretty lush and dreamy, the emphasis on strings and piano plus the welcome addition of some understated and quiet organic guitar playing adding up to give the whole record a very coherent sound. Check out the aforementioned track 'Terrapin' with it's gentle sitar riff and bobbing beats, as beautiful a downtempo track as you're likely to hear.

This is the Blow Monkey's second - and much more commercially successful - studio album following the definitive Limping for a Generation (not available on Amazon). Led by the charismatic Dr. Robert, the Blow Monkeys put out a jangly pop jazzy sound that was both danceable and laid back. Best known for their single 'Digging Your Scene' I still think their first album was their best. Other standouts include 'Forbidden Fruit,' 'Burn the Rich,' and the beautiful 'I Backed a Winner In You.'

3 out of 5 stars Razor Blades For The Mind.......2004-10-08

This is a very interesting CD for Captain Beefheart fans. It does have some appeal, although as in most tribute albums the quality of the recordings vary widely as does the artistic license taken with the songs. I have to admit that I was ignorant of the vast majority of the artists on this CD before I heard the tribute, but found several of them to be excellent. I was particularly impressed by "Orange Claw Hammer" by A Warm Palindrome, "Apes Ma" by Ortho, and "Wild Life" by Old Time Relijun. All these efforts are fairly close in execution (if such a thing is possible) to the originals, and I especially found the musicianship (as it were) on "Wild Life" to be greatly entertaining. I also found "Neon Meate Dream of a Octafish" by Miss Murgatroid to be entertaining, although I miss the original vocals when I hear it.

On the other end of the scale, many of the tracks are workmanlike, yet uninspired, and some are just plain rank. I particularly disliked "Electricity" by Racebannon, "Korn Ring Finger" by Bright, and the insufferably nasal rendition of "Beatle Bones 'n Smokin' Stones" by Dapper, which has the added annoyance of clocking in at 8:12, easily the longest song on the CD.

I think that this CD deserves an overall three star rating: some performances are inspired, some are wretched, but most are middling efforts that will leave real Beefheart fans longing for the originals.
