The Facts and the Dreams

Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Fragile State are Neil Cowley (Zero 7) and Ben Mynott (Blues and Soul). 2002 sees the highly-anticipated release of The Facts And The Dreams, a wonderful fusion of downtempo grooves, sweeping orchestral bliss, deep soul and jazz. The result is a totally unique sounding album that will appeal to everyone. 'Modern day John Barry with subtle touches of soul and jazz' best describes the Fragile State listening experience - one that is already causing major stirs in the industry. Bar de Lune.

3 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected (not that its a bad thing).......2005-09-16

This is definitely chillout. However, theres nothing about this album thats electronic. The cd had an urban & jazz club feel to it. The album has a lot of keyboards, light drumbeats and, some piano elements (very loungy). What I didn't like were that some of the tracks sounded too alike and were too mellow and boring to listen even further. In general, its a cd more for relaxation and/or driving through the city to. (don't be expecting any loud or fast-paced beats here)

5 out of 5 stars Great Music To Lose Yourself In.......2004-09-06

I find myself popping this one in my car's CD player more times than I can recall. The first time I listened to it, all I could think of was, "Wow!". The melodies entice and seduce. A terrific aural experience if you're looking for something relaxed, jazzy, and smooth.

4 out of 5 stars about to go ballistic.......2004-02-13

It's a shame more people in North America don't know about these guys. This is a solid CD. Like Thievery Co., it's great background stuff that sneaks into your head without you even knowing it. Not a weak track on it. With a new disc forthcoming, you should get your hands on this one now while you still can. If 'Dust Bowl' continues where this one leaves off, these guys are gonna be huge soon.

5 out of 5 stars A true gem in this genre of music.......2003-12-09

A very solid album with only a couple of songs to skip. It also contains a couple of true classics. This album seems to get better with repeated listening which I find contradicts the trend of this genre of music. It seems that the texture of lounge/soul music is all that matters these days with songs that burst out creatively but have no lasting power. This album transcends with true keyboard prowess and good jazz elements. I really think that you can't go wrong with this purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Music has the right to elevators.......2003-08-31

The first word that comes to mind on the initial listening of The Facts and The Dreams was - electronic fusion. These so-called elements of the contemporary jazz thing are ominous, but not exclusive. To say this music is laid back would also be an understatement. Easy listening might apply, but not in the sense of a bunch of east coast retirees hanging beachside in southern Florida. What we do have here are these two dudes with the substantial credentials who compose and execute some amazing sonic material. Some of the songs have such a deft and delicate touch they almost come off as atmosphere. This is a good thing though as repeated listening can take you to lofty places. The meat and potatoes of the album come in the three songs - Song of Departure, Every Day a Story, and Seraya. They are infectious and fetching in their immediate attraction. Some might have a tendency to easily dismiss this whole affair as "muzak", but what we do have here is a very engaging and beautiful collection great music. In tough times it's nice to have a soft touch around - adult listening at it's finest. Instructions read: please apply generously.
