About the Artist
For nearly a decade, Groove Collective has been transcending categories with one goal in mind: to move listeners' minds and feet. Long before the term "jam band" hit the scene, this crew of New York City-based stylistic adventurers was laying down grooves that buzzed with funk, jazz, house, Latin and every party-inducing sound in between. Jamband? Acid Jazz? These guys helped shape the modern definition of both while Collective-ly keepin' the Groove. "We're from all around the world — different countries, different backgrounds — you name it", explains drummer and producer Genji Siraisi, "but when the group plays together, life becomes simple again — we want our music to be lush, undeniable, beautiful, and of course, danceable."

After the brilliance of their first two albums, Groove collective's compositional and arrangement innovation hasnt really gone anywhere, and on this album you begin to wonder if the band needs a holiday and a fresh start.

4 out of 5 stars The only way to REALLY hear Groove Collective........2004-07-02

I've enjoyed the music of Groove Collective since 1994. Their fusion of Latin jazz and funk is infectious. Their studio albums explore house, hip hop and soul, but after you hear them play LIVE, you long for that level of energy that their studio CD's just fall short of.

A live Groove Collective experience is an epic session of their addictive sound. When you play this double CD it's like listening to two long sets from this under appreciated ensemble, because all of the songs flow together.

The only disappointment about this purchase (and the reason I didn't give it 5 stars) is the fact that they could have put all 77 minutes of music on one CD instead of splitting them and jacking up the price. I guess their making up for all of the file swapping on the web. If I knew that before I bought it, I'd still buy it!

Bottom line: Perfect addition to your live jazz collection.
