A Motion, Vol. 2: A Six Degrees Dance Collection

Editorial Reviews

The second volume of Six Degrees Records' Motion series furthers the label's commitment to bring sophisticated groove dance music from around the world into living rooms and dance floors alike. The nine tracks on Motion 2--all remixed from their original versions by a stellar cast of globe-trotting knob twiddlers--cruise through a variety of styles, employing an inventive, thoroughly modern take on both traditional music and straight-up dance.

Among the highlights are Ron Trent's jumping remix of the New York-based Latin duo Batidos's "Tengo Sed," Bob Holroyd's remix of his own percussion-heavy extravaganza Drumming Up a Storm," Q-Burns Abstract Message's beat-heavy take on Hawke's "Party People," and mix master Jack Dangers's sleek reworking of the incomparable Banco de Gaia's sitar-driven "How Much Reality Can You Take." With the exception of Josh Wink spinning his wheels through Tweaker's aptly titled "Linoleum, all the tracks on Motion 2 are ideal for those seeking dance music with a light touch, leaving the heavy beats of techno and house behind for airier, more flexible approaches. --Carl Hanni
