Justin Warfield is the son of an African-American father and a Jewish-American mother in L.A., and he tries to combine progressive hip-hop with Beatlesque bohemia on his debut album. The crude boast that he's "a beatnik mack ready to attack" illustrates how little he understands bohemia, and the boring, static beats underneath exposes how little he understands rhythm. Warfield's fiasco is the clearest example possible that there's a lot more to integrating disparate musical elements than simply throwing them together. --Geoffrey Himes

Don't listen the the herb that wrote that review, this album is smooth, tightly produced and hella funky.

OK, so this isn't the best rap album I own, but it holds its own against "De La Soul Is Dead" and "Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde". This was released during rap's early-90's golden era, and the production and smooth rhyming style reflect this.
All the name-checking of random countercultural references gets a little annoying, but on the whole this is pretty solid album. And why "Thoughts In The Buttermilk" didn't become a hit, I'll never know.
Oh yeah, and check out his new band She Wants Revenge. Apparently he's REALLY into Interpol lately.
One of the best rap albums i own.......2005-02-15
Groovy, but never hippie, cool but unpretentious, it's perfect chillout music with a funky verse flow.
