Hed Kandi gone dull.......2007-04-23

Hed Kandi was cream of the crop for sophiticated dance CD's, well no more. Since Hed Kandi's creative founder left it has been a steady drop in the quality of the Hed Kandi product, and this new Twisted Disco series release has to be the saddest yet. I love the artists listed but the mixes are dull, the tracks do not build any momentum. Twisted Disco releases used to be naughty down and dirty fun, this one is just down. Just because the mix is deeper and darker does not make it good or interesting. This CD is a prime example.

Dark and Dirty.......2006-05-26

I have always been a fan of the Twisted Disco series. Last year's though, wasn't up to snuff in my opinion. I really liked the second one, but this may be my new favorite in the series! The beats are a lot darker, and something you would likely hear at an after hours bar, or very late in the night! If only some of the clubs here played tracks like this! I would list favorites, but all of the songs are pretty strong. Some that so standout though include Morillio feat Leslie Carter "Waiting in the Darkness", The Knife's "Heartbeats", Mylo "Muscle Car", The Egg "Walking Away", and many many others. Check it out!

WOW.......2006-05-26

this album is completely "off the taps" (unreal). i'm not sure which twisted disco music man was crankin but at 3-stars it wasn't this beauty. as a HUGE fan of v3, the much anticipated v4 stepped it up another notch as the series has progressively seemed to do.

exceptional songs include works done by tiga, mylo, freeform five, noir, etc.... every track is truly amazing, more so than v3 (which had some unthoughtful earbleeders)

Regardless of who's come or gone, it really comes down to the music; and on that note this CD is a no-brainer must have for any party-machine's collection.

New Kandi.......2006-05-07

Well, as a huge Hed Kandi fan I feel compelled to tell fellow fans just how unremarkable this edition is compared to previous years. The Twisted Disco compilations have always been my favorites due to the cutting edge sounds on the songs and last year's edition was case in point. This is the first Twisted Disco without creator Mark Doyle at the helm and since the acquisition of the label by Ministry of Sound. Mark was REALLY onto something with last year's edition and sonically this year's picks up where Mark and company left off. I will say that some of the sounds here are unlike anything you've ever heard. Also, this version leans much closer to what you would typically hear at an after-hours club. So kudos to MOS for that and for reviving Nu Cool as well as the upcoming return of Serve Chilled. Unfortunately, that's where it all ends. When Mark left, so did many of his other well-known DJ's and the absence painfully shows here especially in the quality of the songs. Although the core sound is left intact, the songs overall are base, uninspiring, superficial, and fully devoid of personality. And you won't find any of the talented female vocalists that gave this series so much true sex appeal. What you'll find are primitive sounding songs with even more primitive lyrics. Even the cover art has suffered as you don't even have to crack open the cellophane to find out that something has gone downhill. Just compare the erotic looking girl with the guitar from last year with what's on the cover this year and you'll get the point. Compare the music inside with last year's version or more importantly Mark's new "Tokyo Project" and you'll really get the point! The overall verdict is good background music and apart from some gems by Tiga, The Egg, Freeform Five and a couple others, this edition has not much to sink your teeth into at all. Apparently, some longtime fans have also been mixed on other compilations since the acquisition and who can blame them? Hopefully they can bring back more of the magic on some of these upcoming releases, but then again weren't we saying that a few months ago??

I own the previous two Twiested Disco album and this is a another great collection of twisted, dirty, house music with lots of great guitar samples. My favorite tracks are Rocker (Eric Prydz Mix) by Alter Ego, Das Plan (Original Album Version) by Terranova, Over Again (Cicada Extended Remix) by Odessi feat. Maria Naylor and Feel It (Club Control Mix) by Antoine Clamaran feat. Lulu Hughes. You can always count on Hed Kandi to release one amazing album after another. Of course the cover art work is not bad either!

Twisted.......2005-06-01

Twisted Disco has been one of my favorites in the Hed Kandi series. I anticipate it every year. On this edition, the house is still twisted, but even more twisted with heavy guitar riffs. It really works well for effect and the songs are great. Lots of hot beats and great bass throughout! The darker side of Hed Kandi house is right! Highlights include Kush "Bittersweet", Yer Man "Weird Therapy", Terranova "Das Plan", Eric Kupper and the Barrow Gang feat Bonnie Bailey's "I Want Kandi", Tweal ft Robina "Watching You", Suzanne Palmer "Luv 2 Luv", and more. Check it out and get ready to be twisted!

Real twisted and hot.......2005-04-16

I listen to the other Hed Kandi compilations (Beach House, Deeper, Stereo Sushi, Winter Chill, you name it) and I think that this is my favourite compilation so far.
I really like the houes beats on this compilation.
The vocals are real sexy, like the ones you find on Hed Kandi Winter Chill, but with 'twisted' beats (I suppose that's where they got the title of the album from).
This is the darker side of Hed Kandi with hard pumping bass (amazing bass that makes you want to jump and dance).
I like the second half of the first CD.
I personally think the songs in the second CD are not as organized as the first CD, but nevertheless it still has some real good songs by Mousse T, Deep Dish, and Antoine Clamaran.
Very upbeat songs and certainly songs you can dance to!!

A Twisted, Wild Party!!!.......2005-03-31

Hed Kandi serves up another AWESOME edition of the Twisted Disco Series, this one even better than before! The beats are hot, the vocals are steamy, the guitar is rockin', and the songs kick butt.

CD1 brings us hip dancin' songs like "Watching You" "Luv 2 Luv" and "Salty" and naughty fun with "I Want Kandi" "Wonder" and "Alone Together" plus some incredible robotic electric guitar in songs like Spektrum's "Kinda New" and Alter Ego's "Rocker".

Then CD2 comes along, and just when you think the tracks can't get any hotter Hed Kandi puts out wicked hits from Mousse T and Deep Dish, an erotic guitar-filled "Feel It" by Antoine Clamaran and off-the-wall craziness with "Weird Therapy" by Yer Man.

Overall, this CD package is one big wild party in a case. You can listen to it anywhere, in the car, at home, or in the club. But no matter when you're listening to it it'll be impossible to keep your feet still!

Good house music.......2004-12-25

The first installment of Twisted Disco the in the Hed Kandi series is good, but if you ask me the second one (that came out in 2004) is much much better. Still there's some great songs to be heard here. Songs include Cassius "The Sound of Violence", Eddie Amador "Psycho X Girlfriend", Therese "Monkey", to name a few. There's some tracks that aren't so good, and to me don't live up to the title Twisted Disco (Maybe I'm biased because I heard the 2004 one first which is much more funky). Songs that don't work include No Angels "Let's Go To Bed", The Barrow Gang and Bonnie Bailey "Reckless", to name a few. Overall a nice collection but check out Twisted Disco 02.04 first.

Hed Kandi?.......2004-04-26

This cd is mistakenly classified as "house". I am an old "house head" & I can tell you that it is nothing more than very commercial dance music. I am very disappointed in this marketing deception. Thanks to the housenation & keep on keepin' on!

A CD worth playing on repeat for hours on end.......2003-08-18

I found the second CD a little more exciting than the first. My favorite track is definitely "RECKLESS" Bonnie Bailey. Her voice rocks with this sexy, baby girl gravel!!! The track itself is hard, sultry, and dark!!! "Bucci Bag" is Brilliant as well!!! Great, fun, dance song!!! Shiny Disco Ball is another track you just can't sit still listening to!!! Of Course there is Dirty Vegas...NUFF SAID!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this compilation and thought it was overall put together magnificently!!!

Unbelievable CD#2.......2003-06-15

CD #1 is rated as a 3. However, CD #2 rates as an 8! Only 1 dud on CD #2 (track 8); the rest are excellent. This is definitely dark and different. The sinister Pray by Syntax is the star track. Superb compilation.

A Solid, if Minimally Flawed, Hed Kandi Release........2003-04-13

The first Hed Kandi release of 2003 calls itself as a "twisted journey through the darker side of house," and there are certainly some tracks on these two overall appealing CDs that live up to that promise. Here, X-Press 2 gets remixed in the infectious kickoff track "Call That Love;" Gene Williams delivers a soulful boost in the excellent "Strawberries;" Cassius gets a deep house makeover in "The Sound of Violence," and the hilarious dramafest "Pycho Ex-Girlfriend" has to be heard to be believed. Even commercial fare, such as "Days Go By" by Dirty Vegas," works well on "Twisted Disco." But what are the misfires? Duds include No Angels' "Let's Go to Bed" (remixed by the usually dependable Mousse T), and we get back-to-back cringeworthy cuts "Reckless" by the Barrow Gang and the not-so-aptly named "Feel Alive" by Pure Orange. But the highlights far outweigh the lackluster cuts, resulting in a grade of B for Hed Kandi's "Twisted Disco."

For Music Listeners & Parties - This CD is Not Ready for Prime Time ..........2006-02-16

This review is not for old fans/DJ's who are used to the "unmixed" state of Hed Kandi's CD's but since this one seems to feature a lot of well known tracks and some well know artists - new to Hed Kandi might stumble upon this disc and wonder what's what.

This is NOT a typical mass market dance mix CD that you can drop into your player and hit play or shuffle. These are tracks in sort of a raw state ready for a DJ (amateur or pro) to begin their mixology mastery - grabbing bit here and there, dropping it on another track, etc, etc ... for those who are DJ's and mixers, you already know what you're getting and you don't need a review - you know what you're getting with every Hed Kandi release but for average/new dance fans who want to listen to this CD or drop it and hit play at a party - this is not that kind of a CD. All the raw elements are here but you need to mix it up and cook it. If that's what you're ready for, this CD is a 4-star CD. If you're not prepared to break out mixing turntables and/or software - this CD is not a just-for-listening dance CD.

Wonderful Party CD, but only the second one.......2005-07-25

The first CD is terrible. I tried to listen to it but just can't do it. The second one is wonderful, great compilation!

Excellent mix.......2004-08-30

This is a great album from the Hed Kandi series. Twisted Disco 02.04 is a great mix of electro-pop dance numbers that make up disc one, and some great dance anthems on disc two. Scissor Sisters make two appearances on the first disc, first on the extended mix of "Comfortably Numb" and then a reworking of Bucci Bag's "More Lemonade". There's a great cover of the Go Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed" that opens the first disc, an instant highlight. My favorite track is Bastian's "Bladerunner (I Think I Love You)", which closes off the first disc. Other highlights on this disc include "You Used To" by Richard X, "Sometimes" by Les Rhythmes Digitales, and "Paddle" by Touche. The second disc as I said is more dance and house sounding. There's some great tracks here, namely "Da Hype" by Junior Jack, "Superstars" by The Loose Cannons, and "Sweet Serendipity" by Bonnie Bailey. Overall a great collection to own, especially if you enjoy the other albums in the Hed Kandi series, this one won't disapoint.

Definitely unmatched by any other collection.......2004-08-19

Let me start by saying that I am a big fan of Kandi. This CD is very different in style from the rest of the label's releases. The songs are deeper, darker, more "twisted", more electro, more immediately danceable, and more radically varied than on most Hed Kandi compilations. CD1 is very electro, while CD2 stays more with big dancefloor anthems. Highlights are on CD1: Comfortably Numb, Sometimes, Strict Machine, You Used To, and Bladerunner (I Think I Love You), CD2: I Like It, Sweet Serendipity, Da Hype, and Time. Overall, a great set and a truly memorable sound. Sure to keep you dancing and coming back for more.

Twisted Disco - and Electro........2004-06-14

Hed Kandi fans who are familiar with the "Deeper" and "Twisted Disco" entries may be in for a shock when they listen to this unmixed collection of dance grooves. Disc 1 is a radical (but much welcome) departure from the norm, offering sizzling electro jams that are cut from the 1980s cloth of synthpop. Highlights are a discocentric re-working of the Pink Floyd classic "Comfortably Numb," an electrifying remix of Bucci Bag's "More Lemonade" by Scissor Sisters, and the soulful "You Used To" which is an update of "You Used to Hold Me So Tight" written by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. And the opener, a cover of Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed," is a real treat. Disc 2 is more true to the Twisted Disco theme, offering selections of more traditional house. Highlights? We have Narcotic Thrust's "I Like it," Therese's infectious "Time," and Camel Riders' "Twisted." But while both discs are very good, the second disc pales a bit by comparison, and it doesn't help that it has a couple of missteps, including an update of the dancefloor classic "Plastic Dreams" that doesn't quite top the original. But don't let that discourage you from picking this up. This is one of the better Hed Kandi compilations I've heard in a while. Worth a spin.
